The fact that situation or not, he needs a diplomat. He's an old guy who doesn't know how to talk to people, and his sons are all warriors and generals with no idea how to make people like him. He could win a war against his rival kingdoms, but he'd rather not have one, and if the daughter brings in the dragon army he doesn't know about he's fucked.
