That was completely your fault.

Btw, if the card marks the server, you run HQ there.

Help me /tg/, I just picked up netrunner and I don't know how to evaluate cards or plays in this game.

How do I git gud?

Loock for tutorials on youtube, watch some games, play more. Jinteki.net is a good place to play.
>>
>>45820016
Oh, this jinteki.net thing seems pretty useful. Thanks.
>>

sneakdoor.com will compare ICE to breakers for you. Don't run bad breakers because it sucks and you'll lose. You have influence pips for a reason.

On the corp side, pick the best agendas you can, pick 15-18 good pieces of ICE, and pick enough money to keep you afloat. That's ~85% of your deck right there. Use the rest on things to help you win.

Basically, get the other player to waste money on things you don't care about. It's a tight economic game and I've had way too many matches come down to one credit either way.

Well this is half of my problem, no one around here plays so I can't get games, so I don't know how to evaluate what good agendas or ice are, or how much money is enough.

Should be a good starting point if I can just play some games on jinteki.net though.

You can either play what everyone is playing and git good.
Or you can play whatever you want and have fun.

No middle ground. Your choice.

Although honestly, since nobody near you plays I'd be more worried about getting a community started and playing for fun over getting good, since there's nobody you can get good with, and Jinteki.net players are all retards that install 3 Joshua B. even when the fucking card is unique.
>>
>>45820319
The best agendas are things that either help you win or stop you from losing. Astro, Beta Test, and Nisei help you win, Global Food, NAPD, and The Future Perfect stop you from losing.

You want agendas you can actually score, so no Mandatory Upgrades, and you want agendas that are worthwhile to score, so no (or very few) 3/1s.

Look at what other decks on NRDB are using and use them as a baseline.
>>
>>45820442
I'm planning on teaching a few friends who are already playing casual magic to play, and go from there. Maybe I'll check out the competitive scene later on.
>>
>>45820623
For ICE slots, sneakdoor is your friend. In general, you want a combination of ICE that demands a cheap breaker and ICE that punishes you for that breaker. So while Wall of Static forces the runner to play Corroder, Eli taxes Corroder badly. Enigma incentives Yog.0, Tollbooth minimizes it. Architect demands your Mimic and Assassin punishes it.
>>
>>45820623
Actually, I'll argue that Mandatory Upgrades is a pretty awesome WIN MORE card. If you treat it like a 5-3 that you need to FA it basically wins you the rest of the game because you can FA the rest of the agendas without using biotics/sansan.
>>
>>45816757

You took a risk, the gamble didn't pay. Happens.

There *is* a reason why Jinteki happens to be the Magical Realm Corp though.

>>45820442
>Jinteki.net players are all retards that install 3 Joshua B. even when the fucking card is unique.

I want to say, if the software* lets them when they're not supposed, it's probably more unfit than they're stupid.

*: or their opponents

>>45820623

Agenda value can vary a lot depending on strategy. I wouldn't play Posted Bounty in a straight rush deck, but that agenda can win you games in a deck with a solid (backup) kill plan.
>>
>>45820836
Yeah, but trying to score the first one sucks. Even in the NEXT rush decks that specialize in getting it off turn 3, it's bad.

The best usage I've had with it is throwing it to the runner and playing Media Blitz afterward.
>>
>>45820927
That's great support.
>>
>>45820927
>The best usage I've had with it is throwing it to the runner and playing Media Blitz afterward.

I played a couple variations of that deck, and it kills me because I SO much love the idea behind it, that's such a sweet move, but then I personally found it terribly boring to play.
>>
>>45823147
Isn't terribly boring decks precisely the point of high end competitive decks? Like, taking out all variance of the game and just roll mechanically your deck.
>>
>>45824234

Without even going into that, it's just as I was all "OMG OMG" at the idea of that deck, and then all "meh" once playing it.

Oh, well... can't love them all.
>>
>>45824234
The point of competitive decks is to win as often as possible, the idea that competitive gameplay is boring is just a lie that bad players tell themselves so they can feel better about not competing.
>>
>>45825658

The point of non-competitive decks is to offer enjoyable games as often as possible, the idea that competitive gameplay isn't boring is just a lie that competitive players tell themselves so they can feel better about playing the same exact games over and over again... like we're doing right now.
>>
>>45826163
I enjoy games a lot less when my opponent isn't doing their best to win, I guess we have to agree to disagree here.
>>
>>45826439

I'd point what I think is a critical difference between piloting and building on that front myself.
>>
>>45826439
>I enjoy games a lot less when my opponent isn't doing their best to win
You're assuming here that non-competitive gamers are not doing their best to win. I say that's bullshit, just because they are exploring alternatives out of the competitive meta doesn't mean they aren't going all in to win their matches.
Every deck start somewhere, all competent ideas have unpolished beginnings.
>>
>>45826163
Counterpoint: Hayley shaper bullshit decks. Both competitive and extraordinarily fun to play.
>>
>>45828525

Counter-counterpoint: the existence of a few outliers isn't enough to redefine the whole ecosystem.

To talk about the game... Blackguard deck.

Tried several variations. A Stealth build; didn't like the pace though I can see it being decent in the right hands. The central breakers version, sporting Pheromones and Personal Workshop was very interesting to play, but a few times hit that "too efficient for its own good" spot, not enough big stuff to install apart from Blackguard itself and a few HQI - Fester was interesting in the building phase in case the corp tried to kill your momentum by purge, but basically useless once you got the forced rez going. Too bad, like the idea.

Eater/Keyhole version with Eureka and Rolodex actually behaved a lot better than I thought it would. Rolodex has been really helpful in getting the cards out in the right sequence - be it a Drive-by or an early game Muertos Gang Member (which you can trash once you've forced the corp to rez everything, before you start derezzing). Wish you had something to trash them in faction. Faust variation with Geist and Lemuria I would have to try.

It's very interesting the level of control you can get over the board state, with the corp unwilling/unable to try to patch a security hole because the way you derez/force-rez things keeps it broke while making it unable to play, allowing to keep threatening bypass sniping on remotes on top of HQ lock if you can reach it.

I wonder about Diwan.

Hate Space ICE obviously. Not competitive. But I do think it can be made to work decently.
