A multiverse setting in which all possible settings exist.
>No contact of any kind is possible between universe.
>Nearly no universes even know there is a multiverse.
>The few universes who know that the multiverse exists don't care to pass betweenuniverses.
There. A setting that contains all settings that may or may not interract.

But that's still an infinite number.

And there's also an infinite number of shitty settings in here, which means your setting probably breaks even at best.

My setting. High Fantasy 400 years after most magic got sucked away, now filled with dieselpunk/atompunk stylings, 1950's level technology, warring Great Houses, and endless cosmic horrors trying to open the door to reality...

Wow. That is some fierce bad taste there. That covers 40k and every generic-as-fuck "fantasy" setting out there like Forgotten Realms.

I don't understand.

No, because they might be enjoying something shit.

You're objectively a hipster relativist. Tip harder, fedoralord.
>>

High fantasy doesn't necessarily have orcs, elves, halflings and dwarves.

That anon is someone who thinks a fantasy setting can only be god-tier if it does. Be sure to point and laugh.

So Tolkien-esque just means having elves and dwarves etc?

Because I'd argue here's a bit more to Tolkien than that.

There is, he's a retard who thinks D&D counts as Tokien-esque because they have derivative races, ignore him.

Gygax literally did not understand half-elves when he ripped tolkien off. He was very confused on the issue. Where are the half-dwarfs hmm? What's with the half-orcs? The fact that they just rolled with it after all these years still make me smirk.

For being a DnD setting, Eberron is actually pretty cool and fits in a bunch of genres, from standard fantasy to pulp to war to Shadowrun (dragonmarked houses = corps).

Well, the thing is that DnD has had a lot of setting that were actually bad fits for DnD.

Birthright, Ravenloft and Planescape are all settings that would have been better off having entirely their own system.
>>
>>45522429
>>45523097
Yeah but it also includes settings where traveling between them is impossible so it's fine.
>>
>>45522429
I'm partial to some Unknown Armies style modern fantasy myself. But if it were to be a single setting, it would have to be a universal one. I think Dungeons: the Dragoning is a good example of one, because in addition to housing an unlimited number of worlds and content within it, the highest level remains one at which adventure happens; although you can become king of a universe or whatever, it's not better than doing space opera stuff.
>>
>>45527454
Why Planescape? It seems to fit D&D fine, to the extent that anything does.

If we're talking about future apocalypse, I totally agree. Cool lasers and shit, but with the smaller focus that allows for fantasy-style quests and individual heroics without having to contend with mass communication, planetary police forces, interstellar culture and so forth.

If we're talking about modern day apocalypse, I find it confining and rather boring.

But Anons....

Does the setting that is a multiverse containing all settings... contain itself? Are there not an infinite number of multiverse-destroying things everywhere? Is the multiverse contained? Aaaaaaaaaaagh!

There will be one setting that objectively will be enjoyed the most on average, if introduced to every group. So in that sense, this setting would objectively be the 'best' as the players are an unknown in this scenario and we're looking for the setting they're most likely going to enjoy.
>>

The other day someone made a thread about the Wilderlands of High Fantasy and I'm sold.

Want high fantasy? Low magic? Gonzo? Aliens? Guns? It can all fit in there, or not, your choice, without changing a single word of the published setting.

Obviously this is still D&D-esque fantasy, but you could totally advance the timeline for your Shadowrun or Apocalypse World campaign.

>Grace Harvey is a second-year PhD Student in English (College of Arts).

>Her thesis, provisionally entitled ‘The Politics of Friendship in the 1790s Radical Novel’, is principally concerned with the literary representation of the politics of friendship, that is politics in friendship, and friendship in politics.

>More specifically, her research seeks to query how the word friend is often interchanged or substituted for other relationships including teacher, patron, brother, colleague, husband, father, and so forth. Triangulating the novels of William Godwin, Thomas Holcroft, Charlotte Smith and Robert Bage with their political treatise and personal documents, her research draws significantly on hitherto unacknowledged examples of life-writing to establish how these novelists understand friendship against the backdrop of 1790s radical politics.
