An awesome drawfriend made a thing! Isn't that nice?

>When we last left our heroes, the search for Romero and Daniel took a rather disastrous turn when the group came across a band of apparent mercenaries known as The Owls, who ambushed them and took their weapons. It turns out The Owls have been spying on the group for a long time, and know next to everything about them. Eric, being the complete ginger ass that he is, commits the cardinal sin of splitting the group, taking Heather, Johnny and Sara with him on his hunt to kill Romero. The rest of the group return to The Fort to find out that the Twins were members of the Owls the entire time, and have kidnapped Christine. Things aren't looking good at all.

Questions for the players
>How was your day?
>On a scale of 1-10, how much do you hate Eric?
>Isn't this a nice pic from a nice drawfriend?
>Is Romero innocent?
>Will Charlie be reunited with best girl again?

"DAMMIT!" Logan ejected the tape and threw it across the room in anger. Brian enter's the room in a rush.

"Bro, they also took the doc! What the hell's goin' on?!"

Annie threw her hands into the air. "Okay, what we need to do right now is just... calm down. Breathe. Now, Charlie... please tell me you have a plan because I'm having trouble keeping it together here."

>A) We need to go look for the others
>B) We need to search for clues. Find out where they've taken Christine and the doc (ROLL D20)

>How was your day?
Just barely starting, and going slowly.
>On a scale of 1-10, how much do you hate Eric?
7/10. He has a good reason to be pissed off, but he doesn't need to trip the rest of the fucking party up swinging his fucking ovaries everywhere.
>Isn't this a nice pic from a nice drawfriend?
Thanks Cake.
>Is Romero innocent?
Mostly.
>Will Charlie be reunited with best girl again?
We threw the 20's to save her life. The only way she'll survive is if we never see her again.

>>45478172
>B) We need to search for clues. Find out where they've taken Christine and the doc (ROLL D20)
"Annie's got the right idea. Everyone breathe and get your heads together. Let's look around for anything that might let us know where they're headed."

We have no way to know where the others went from the spot where they got off the bus, we don't know where they took Christine and the doc, and even if we figure it out we're not in any position to do anything about it without guns. We need to drive out to speak with Fulci. We need to avoid the radio because the Owls might be listening, and they might not want us to speak to him; let's not hint that it's what we're doing.

We should also not talk about wanting to do that while we're inside the Fort. The twins might have this place wired for sound.

"Let's start looking. Leave no stone unturned," you command your group.

Logan nods and begins the search, grumbling angrily to himself. "Damn it all... I thought I could trust those idiots. They were completely harmless... I'm the one who brought them here... I'm the one who told them to stay behind... damn it all!" He slams his hand down hard on Eric's desk. Annie moves over and pats him on the back with a smile.

"Hey, don't be so hard on yourself! We've all made mistakes! Heck, we've been making a lot of them recently!" Logan is at first taken aback by Annie's friendliness during the situation, but he quickly brushes it off.

"Whatever, let's just keep looking. Those two will have a lot to answer for when I find them..."

"Bro, take a look at this!" Brian calls to you, and you're quick to notice what it is he's pointing out. Drops of blood on the floor. "Let's hope this isn't Christine's blood, right?"

Still, Brian may have just found your clue. The blood made a trail leading out of The Fort. If you were able to follow it, then...

>>
>>45478424

>>45478442

You make note that not only is this trail of blood easy to follow, it's also a very fresh trail. You now know that the twins aren't long gone. "If we hurry up, we could catch them before they return to the rest of their group," you realise aloud, "let's go! We can still save them!"
"Just a second!" Logan calls out as he runs back into his room, returning with two combat shotguns in hand, tossing you the spare. "Didn't think they would take these. I keep them hidden under my bed."

Annie's mouth was agape. "Had anyone told you just how cool you are? Because I feel it needs to be said right now." Brian lets out a grunt in Logan direction.

You gaze down at the shotgun. It can't kill any of the undead in their current state, but at least you have something to defend yourself with against The Owls.

You and the gang roll out of The Fort when your walkie talkie goes off.

"Charlie, come in! This is Sgt. Fulci! We're currently under fire from a group of hostile survivors! Please answer!"

Shit, looks like The Owls are trying to clear a path for the undead out of the city.

>A) There's no point hiding anything anymore, just fill him in

"We don't know much about them," you answer, "but they're some kind of group calling themselves The Owls. And for whatever reason, they aren't too big on us trying to find a cure for the virus."

"Shit. They're real determined, I'll give them that. Not to mention how the zombies have evolved... we've only managed to keep them at bay by setting up more barricades."

"Fire," you quickly explain, "the evolved forms are still weak to fire. Let them burn."

"R-really? Kid, you're a lifesaver! And how's Sara doing?"

You don't have the heart to mention that she isn't there.

"Look, I'll have to get back to you, we've got an urgent situation on our hands!" You put the radio back into your pocket and keep following the trail of blood. It leads you to the entrance of what appears to be a comic book and merchandise store.

"Aaaaaaw maaaaaan, I loved this place!" Annie mumbled.

"It could be a trap... be ready," Logan said to you. You nod in agreement.

You open the door to the store, and as you hear a click, you immediately regret that decision. A rigged shotgun goes off, and you flinch, before realising that it wasn't aimed at the entrance. Unfortunately, it was aimed to someone who was strapped to a chair at the end of the trail of blood. His face is unrecognisable after the blast, but the clothes tell you that the bloody mess used to be the doc. Sprayed on the wall behind you on mocking paint, "THE OWLS ARE WATCHING."

"They must have left him here to throw us off the trail," Annie said, with her hand placed to her mouth in shock. "Oh god... poor guy."

Logan lets out an angry scream. "DAMN IT ALL! I can't believe they would do this! And now we have no more leads!"

"Don't be so sure," you tell him. "There's got to be something around here that will let us pick up the trail."

"You're right," he looked at the corpse of the doc. "Here's hoping you didn't die for nothing, old man."

You and the group keep searching, but come up completely short. You can't find anything, not a single trace of the men who had gone through here. You clench your fist in anger. The trail for the twins has come to a complete dead end.

Logan bangs his head off of the store counter in frustration, actually managing to draw a little blood. Annie tries to talk him into calming down, but he'll have none of it.

"Fuck, what do we do now, bro?" Brian asked desperately.

"We have no choice..." you say in utter shame, "We're just going to have to guess."

"Guess?"

"Think, they have to be taking her somewhere nearby, but where?"

"Well, what's a good place to set up a base in the area?" Annie asked, "Besides The Fort, I mean."

"The Police Station... of course!" you answer, "these guys are a well armed military force, where else are they going to make their base out of?"

"Yeah, it's a good thing we'll be able to waltz in there and politely ask for Christine back, right?" Logan growled. "There's no way we can shoot our way in there. We'll have to scope it out, first."

You and the other three make your way to the police station. Sure enough, the place is well fortified, with blockades made from police vehicles, and more than a few armed guards out front. The four of you try to get as close a look as possible from behind a corner.

"What do you think, Charlie?" Annie asks.

"Hmm, there doesn't seem to be an immediate place we can just get in through," you answer, "but I'm sure that if we could sneak around, there could be some kind of-"

"Hey guys, what are we looking at?" an at first unknown voice catches you off guard. As soon as you recognise it, you whirl around in panic to see Alan with a rifle pointed towards your group. "Sorry kid, didn't you read the signs? The Owls are always watching."

You react quickly, and bash Alan in the side of the face, causing him to reel backwards. You point your shotgun at him as he wipes blood from his mouth. "Feisty, I like it!" He snaps his fingers, and more of his crew appear from around the corner, aiming there guns at you. You keep your sights on Alan, refusing to lower your weapon until one of them grabs Annie from behind and places a handgun to her head. She whimpers in fear.

"I appreciate your tenacity," Alan answered as he rose back to his feet. "Tell you what, I was thinking of gunning you down, but I think you deserve a little treat! How about we take you inside, and you get to met The Leader? How about that? What do you say?"

"Your scientist friend was having a little chat with The Leader whenever Tim and Jason brought her around. She doesn't really see eye-to-eye with us on a lot of things, so we're keeping her in a holding cell until she comes around," Alan answered. "Now, let's not keep anyone waiting. You've already been enough of a pain in our ass as it is."

You and the rest of the group are escorted inside the police station, where the main hall is a sight to behold. In an office desk chair made up and decorated to look like some kind of throne, sits a man with a crown on top of his head and a sniper rifle resting by his side... and you recognise him.

Clarence Hooper, the last remaining member of the Trioxin board of directors. "But how?" you ask as soon as you see him. "I thought you wanted to help people find a cure after you were gone! Wasn't that the reason for the trail to find Patient Zero?"

Hooper placed his hand to his chin, pondering for a moment. "Oh, that old thing?" he answers, "that was a lifetime ago. I was just a stupid lowly mortal back then. Now... now, I'm king of all that remains! Not too long ago, I was granted a gift beyond my wildest dreams, and I could never betray the trust of the one who gave it to me! I would never allow her to come to harm! I must keep her secret! I must keep her safe! That is our purpose!"

"What the hell are you talkin' about?!" Logan demanded.

"I am talking about my lady. The Queen of all that remains." He steps off his chair and leans in close to you, so you can feel his breath in your face. He reeks of blood and piss. "I am talking about Patient Zero."
>>
>>45480157
Your eyes widened. "You... you can't be serious! That's insane!"

"Oh, pish-posh... you'll learn to see my lady's glorious plans in action whenever Romero gets here with the kid. After all you've gone through to get here, I think you deserve to see it first hand!" Hooper snaps his fingers and The Owls drag you into a steel cell and shut the door behind you. You look around to see the cell is occupied by another, as Christine sits on the bench with her head hung low. She gazes up at you as you are shoved inside.

"Ah... I see you have arrived" She welcomes you.

"Yeah."

"The twins had deceived me."

"Yes."

"We are in quite the predicament, Charlie."

"Yup."

There was nothing you could do for the current moment but sit tight, and try to think of a way out.

>31 Hours are remaining

You've been stuck in the cell for about an hour or so at this point, and you're beginning to run low on ideas, when the doors to the Police Station swing open and you hear an all to familiar voice shouting out. "Hooper, you son of a bitch!"

Romero had arrived, just as Hooper said he would. Even worse, he did have Daniel with him. After you defended him this whole time... Romero tossed Daniel at the feet of Hooper, and the kid stayed frozen in fear. Annie's eyes well-up upon seeing this, and she buries her face into Brian's chest to avoid looking any further.

"Now Ben," Hooper replied with a feigned pouty face, "Is that any way to say hello to an old friend? Bring it in, you big lug-"

Romero placed up a hand, keeping Hooper at a distance. "Don't come any closer, Clarence! I did what you asked, okay? Now just give me her location."

"Fine... I guess I did promise you this. You and Zero do deserve to have a nice little reunion. I'll have a few of my men escort you to her location. They'll also keep an eye on you, make sure you don't do anything stupid or reckless that could hurt the lady. I know how much you love being stupid and reckless." He snaps his fingers and three of the owl make their way towards the entrance. "Now, as for our little scientist friend..." The Owls open the cell door and drag out Christine, "Our test subject has arrived. Time for us to perform a few... experiments, don't you think?"

Christine screams as The Owls drag her and Daniel down into the station's basement.

Romero looks over to the cell and the two of you stare at each-other, eye-to-eye. You have a chance to say something to the man you've defended for so long.

Romero shook his head. "I had to. Like I told you before Charles, I already have someone who matters to me, and this was the only way I could find my way to her... the only way I could see my daughter again."

You stand in shock. His... daughter? Patient Zero was... damn.

Annie stood up and pressed against the cell bars in anger. "So that's it?! Y-you were just using us this entire time! You knew about it all from the beginning! Did we mean nothing to you."

"Annibelle... Charlie..." he trailed off, before taking a breath. "Your friendship meant more to me than you could possibly imagine. But not of that matters in the end, and the end is nigh. The two of you are much better people than I could ever be. Try to stay that way."

With that, he took his leave. Annie ran her head through her hair in distress. "His daughter? We defended him this whole time... we believed in him, and Patient Zero was his daughter all along."

"He played you guys like fiddles," Logan mumbled, "and now Christine and Daniel are being forced to do... god knows what. We need to break out of here, and fast."

"We're going to need a miracle," Annie cried.

Luckily for you, that miracle was coming.

>29 Hours are remaining

Another two hours pass in the cell, and you are left almost blinded to what is going on around you. You try to listen out to see if you can hear anything from the basement, but it's no use. Between The Owls who went with Romero and The Owls who had joined Hooper in the basement, there were only two guards by your cell. They were heavily armed enough though that trying to fight your way out would be ridiculous.

Making matters worse, another Owl entered the building, heavily armed with a helmet covering their entire face.

"Welcome brother!" the guard outside your cell welcomes the newcomer. "Are you with Alan's crew?"

The helmeted Owl said nothing.

"Yeah... I'm going to need you to identify yourself."

Once again, the helmeted Owl said nothing, and in doing so, told you everything you needed.

The helmeted Owl opened fire on the two guards, hitting one in the head and the other in the shoulder. The guard hit in the shoulder is down, and tries to scramble along the ground before he is hit by a bullet coming from the entrance, finishing him off. You can't see who this shooter was, but you recognise his yelling immediately.

"HOOT HOOT YA SON OF A BITCH!"

Good old Johnny.

The helmeted Owl takes the keys from the guard's body and opens the cell door before immediately revealing their face to the group. Of course Sara would come to save you. In a way, you never doubted it.
>>

You embrace Sara as Heather and Eric come running in as soon as the coast is clear. Heather ran up to Brian and wrapped her arms around him. "Oh, Brian! I've come to rescue you, my sweet prince!"

"Uh, Heather... we broke up." Heather slowly loosened her grip, before turning her head in another's direction.

"Logan, my sweet prince, I-"

"-NO."

"Huh. Oh Charlie-"

Sara glares at her, and Heather shuts up.

Eric approaches you with heavy eyes. The man is collapsing under the pressure. He looks like he's aged 5 years in the last few hours. "Where. Is. He?" he asks. "Where is my son?"

"They have him down in the basement with-" you can't finish before Eric starts running for the basement.

He realises that his son is within his reach, but now he has to listen to you and be careful in order to keep him safe. He stops struggling as you help him to his feet. You and the group quickly get prepared before bursting down the steps to the basement, with Sara and Logan taking point. The first Owl to see you guys barely has time to raise his gun before he gets blasted away. As you keep pressing down, a pair of shots are fired in your direction by a pair of Owls. Logan recognises them right away. The twins. Enraged, Logan presses ahead, and starts firing wildly on the two, taking both of them down. He doesn't stop there, though as he makes sure to blow their damn heads off while they're down for goof measure. You make a note never to betray Logan as the group presses on to the lab in the basement.

As you enter the lab, you bear witness to a rather unpleasant sight. Christine is cowering in the corner of the room, with tears in her eyes. More emotion than you thought the woman was even capable of. Daniel lies atop the gurney, seemingly lifeless, with Hooper standing over him, tweedling his thumbs in an exaggerated fashion. He addresses you as your group arrives. "Ah, there you are! Took you long enough, you almost missed it!"

Eric doesn't think twice before taking the man to the ground and wailing on him with punches to the face. You pull Eric off of Hooper, hoping not to kill him so soon.

"What did you do to Daniel?" Eric demanded.

"So pushy! Just wait and see..." Hooper explained, "Now, I suppose this means you got through my men. Oh well, can't be helped. It begs the question of what exactly you think you're going to do with me..."

"Where is Patient Zero?" you demand to know from him.

"Oh, right to the main event, eh?" he pondered. "I like that. You should be eager to meet Zero. She's pretty eager to meet you too..." He pulls a slip of paper with the map co-ordinate on it from his pocket and handed it to you. "I always held on to this. As a keepsake... or in case I ever forgot. I forget more and more each day... can never be too safe. I have to make lots of room for her up in the noggin."

"What did you do to my son?" Eric asked, kicking Hooper.

"I gave him a gift. Zero was... disappointed with the results of the first virus. She turned out fine, but her children... all of the hunger, but next to none of the brains. Not to mention the decay. No, we needed an improvement on the formula, and we needed a young body to test it on."

"You... you infected my son with the Infinity Virus?"

Eric unloads his handgun into the head of Hooper, who spasm's wildly with each shot, before collapsing wildly into a tray of test tubes, causing the chemicals to spill out onto the floor as he falls in a bloody heap.

"Eric, I am so sorry," Christine said, but Eric threw up a hand letting her know it's not necessary.

"It's okay, Christine. It's not your fault."

Daniel jolts upright from the gurney, frightening you. Daniel twists his head to see his father standing over the carcass of Hooper.

"D-Dad?" he asks, confused. "What's going on?"

Eric turns to his son with tears in his eyes. "Nothing son. It's all going to be okay now."

Daniel sits up, his feet dangling over the edge of the gurney. "Dad, I'm so cold, and... hungry."

Eric chokes up even further. "I know son, I know."

Eric, refusing to take his eyes off his son, addresses the rest of the group. "Charlie, I'm sorry. You're a better leader than I could ever be. Logan... you've been there for me this whole time. I'll always value what you've done for us.Christine, you're a genius. You never needed my help... or Harold's. You can make the cure yourself. Now... go. Leave me here with my son."

Eric pulls a cigarette lighter from his pocket. "Make a cure, save the world. Find Patient Zero, and let that bitch burn."

As you and the group make your way up the stairs, Eric embraces his son for one last time. "It's okay pal, daddy's here," he mutters, before dropping the lighter into the batch of chemicals, lighting to room ablaze.

>>
>>45482763
Exactly! The Owls didn't just make a brand new virus; they improved the old one a little bit! If the cure for Infinity doesn't work for Infinity Plus, it'll already be a close enough match that we can probably tweak it on the fly!

Let's pull these two out of the fire, god damn it!
>>
>>45482831
I'm glad someone sees this too.

I'd vote for pulling them out of the fire too.
>>
>>45482831
Eric probably didn't want to see his son turned into a heartless flesh-eating beast in the meantime. Besides, all the data they have is for the FIRST concoction of the virus, not the second. So it might not even work anyway. To top it all off, what if Daniel did end up killing everyone before the cure is finished?

As much as I want to see the shota live, Eric did do the right thing.
>>
Well? Get out of there! Fire is bad for us living things, don't you know? We can start blood tests once we're somewhere safe and have sanitised the right equipment somewhat. Then we can talk about tweaking for a formula. Besides, do we even have the equipment needed? Also, guns, do we have that as well?
>>
>>45482882
Daniel is intelligent right now; we can keep him from attacking others as long as we keep him fed.

Even if Eric didn't want to see his son turned into a flesh-eating monster, that doesn't mean that his son doesn't want or deserve to live.

The second concoction of the virus was cobbled together hastily, and can't be all that different from the first given that only three days have passed, and that's if they've been working on it the whole time and not just since Christine went downstairs a few hours ago. If the cure for the Infinity Virus doesn't work on Infinity Plus, Christine will know enough about the second form that we'll be able to fix this in a couple days, tops.

You and Eric hadn't seen eye-to-eye in quite some time, but it was impossible not to feel for the man. At the very least, he was able to save his son from the fate of the undead. You stand in the main hall when Sara takes your right hand and gives it a comforting squeeze. You realise there's one last thing you have to admit to.

"You were right, Sara. Romero did it," you tell her. "Patient Zero's his daughter, and he brought Eric to the Owls so they would bring him to her. We're going to find him." Sara nodded in agreement.

Brian helped Christine move, who was mostly frozen from the shock. "Come on brainiac, we gotta' keep moving." Once they had made it upstairs, Christine planted a kiss on Brian, much to his surprise. "Whoa, what the hell was that?"

"You rescued me, correct?" Christine wondered. "In this event, I believed the exchange of saliva was necessary. Was I wrong?"

Brian scratched the back of his head. "Wow, why does it sound so hot when you say it like that." You can hear the angry growling from Heather from across the room.

Annie approached you and Sara. "So... we're finally going to Patient Zero next, huh? I still can't believe that Romero... anyway, how are we supposed to get through all the undead without-"

"DID SOMEONE SAY FLAMETHROWERS?" Johnny stood before you, carrying most of the incendiary weapons that had been taken from you that morning. It seems he found the Owl's armoury.

You were planning to celebrate this development, until you developed a ringing pain in your head. You doubled over, much to Sara's concern. To make matter's stranger, a woman's voice rang out in your head.

"YOU BURNED MY FAVOURITE TOY, CHARLIE. SHAME ON YOU. SO, YOU'RE READY TO MEET ME? GOOD. I'LL BE WAITING. THE END IS NIGH, CHARLES."

And on that, we end tonight's thread. Not much longer until the end, folks! Tune in tomorrow for more City of the Dead

It's almost spooky how it happens constantly. It's like the dice gods letting us know that they exist, and that they hate us.

Rolled 14, 13, 3, 18, 2, 7, 12, 5, 16, 19, 17, 3, 13, 2, 14, 5, 8, 12, 15, 14, 19, 16, 14, 1, 3 = 265 (25d20)

Surely one of these will see more 20s than 1s.
inb4 no 20s

Holy shit, I think that's the first time I've seen double 20s without any 1s before or after.
Guess miracles really do happen, huh.
Now if only that could happen again when it actually mattered.
