I'm looking to hop into any random game, any system, for a trial session. I take roleplaying somewhat seriously, and I prefer to keep things in character where possible (some out of character banter is fine). I'm good to play online, although I'm only really familiar with roll20. If we're cool with each other, then I'll likely elect to stay!
Preferably looking for games running any time through this next week.
>>

If you're into Rifts we've got a Rifts game going that could use more good roleplayers.

It's a text game via roll20, if you're interested check the description here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/32984/rifts-chaos-earth-resurrection

I'm learning 5e and really want some random one-off crawls with whomever whenever. Desperately hoping I'm not alone here. Anyone free/down to do one tonight?

I've never actually heard of Rifts! Looks neat. Is it hard to get into?
And I've never actually tried a campaign by text before. How does that even work?

>>45380683
I'm down to start and DM a campaign tonight. Or be a player in it. Not so much a dungeon crawl though.

Anyone interested in starting a random but awesomefun 5e campaign with me tonight? roll20 preferably webcam and mic?

Or I can run Dark Heresy. Or something like that.

Jesus, somebody just come and play with me tonight.

Rifts is pretty awesome, check out the pdf of Rifts Chaos Earth online (just google that shit) and check that out. If it looks like the type of thing you want to play, hit us up on IRC at #RiftsOOC at Rizon IRC.

Text based is easy, you just type all the shit you'd normally say. You still roll dice and use the maps like you would normally on roll20.

Now keep in mind some things.
One: This is my very first time GMing and therefore the adventure will be very simple and short.
Two: This a one shot atm, but if it works out we may continue it.
Three: The game is also mend to help learn the system for myself and others, which is why i would prefer players new to the sytem.

PS: I can provide the rulebook and sheet needed.

How different is 5e from Pathfinder? I've played pathfinder a few times, but never 5e.
>>
>>45381061
I've only ever played one game of pathfinder, and that was cut short. From my understanding, it isn't very different. If I remember correctly, Pathfinder was 3.5e with better class balancing, where 5e came out recently doing almost the same thing, and also simplifies a lot of the mechanics.

5e is seen as one of the easier systems to learn right now, and it does basically everything you would want in an RPG

>>45381119
If you're the GM here>>45380828, I'd love to join in then. I looked through my books and I seem to have 5e's player's handbook here.

You do realize /tg/ is a group of people who think text RP is the sole reason RPGs exist, right?

Asking them to play a voice game and actually roleplay terrifies them. As for webcams and you're basically trying to ask a monkey to function in a social situation.

In the near future I'm GMing games of The Mutant Epoch, Ghostbusters (in Compton) and TMNT set in the 1980s.
>>
So I got into 4 games.
Three from here, one from Roll20.

After a week of character creations and getting acquainted with the players and the system we waited and waited, and in the end it turned out that the game was not at all my taste after all. No hard feelings but i had to leave to not fuck things up for everyone else.
The second game seemed really interesting. Unfortunately the campaign wasn't ready and still isn't and there aren't enough players, so that's on hold.

The third one would have been a mystery game, and then one player got upset and left, a second player got a different job and had to leave. All the players that were initially in the group apart from me left, and one of the new ones is already complaining that the hunt for players thing isn't going fast enough. So the fate of this is also uncertain.

Finally there was the r20 game. It semed like the perfect setting, the DM seemed like the nicest person with a good personality cool ideas, and altogether sympathetic. The time was exactly right for me, the other players that got picked had super awesome characters.
The first game would have been in 4 hours, and i got all happy and excited to finally actually get to play my first ttRPG game ever.
Then it turns out the game listing and the skype group and the GM account was all deleted on thursday.

GG life. well fucking played.

I think I know who you are. Your style and mood are very distinctive.

First, calm down man. Play games and enjoy them. Overlook small flaws. Everything and everyone has imperfections. The ability to just take them stride and still enjoy yourself is required to get along with society. Big flaws you can dismiss or get away from. Still, there's no need for big speeches and drama at every point. Address the problem then leave it be. Focus that energy on productive ends.

If you need to get your act together, start small. Sleep, food, exercise. If these aren't perfect, do them now. Have a salad, take a nap, go for a walk. It's not a waste of time. Set a list of list of things you want to get done and go about doing them. Small steps. Daily tasks.

Most importantly, stop with the rants. You gotta stop. It's a waste of your time and energy. Push forward to things that are good for you. Anyway that's my two cents.

>>45399489
So what if your personal life and mental health are a mess dude.
So is mine.
That's exactly why i was so happy about that listing. A few hours a week to escape the shitfest that is reality. I mean it's not a problem if you absolutely have no time to prepare for the games, but then why didn't you think about this beforehand?

Also re-add me on skype.

>>45399935
I don't know if you were talking to the GM dude or me, the guy who was complaining.
If you were talking to the other guy, his problems indeed seem very similar to my own.
If you were talking to me:
-i complain about things because i long for the feeling of someone understanding at least a fraction of what i'm going through.
-the small steps are something my psychologist told me. it is however difficult to achieve, if those things FEEL like a waste of time, and people around you constantly remind you how inadequate all that is.
-if i do something i don't think i can overlook imperfections. that's just the way i am. And big flaws in how my life is are impossible to overlook, because it's statistically unlikely to have as much bad luck as i did. or do you know anyone else who has been looking for his first game on and off for 3 years and couldn't get into any?
This game listing has been the only thing that i've been looking forward to and that kept me motivated for the past two weeks. And now it's all cancelled, because it turns out that life is similarly shitty for another person.
>>
>>45399489
Also, which one was you? I kindof assumed the last one, but you might have been talking about another of the four.

I was talking to you.

Bad luck can happen. You can be subject to a number of unfortunate coincidences. But you can't fault circumstance every time. You are a participant in events. Have you ever heard an expression along the lines of 'success is when preparation meets opportunity'? There are a thousand variations on this. The point is, that if you keep working at something, you will inevitably find the good parts. If you never hit the good parts, you have to look inward.

No one will 'understand you'. At least not to any sort of perfection. We're all on our own islands. Accept that communication between them is imperfect, and that we are imperfect. Accept that some degree of flaw is okay and normal. Accept that flaws within yourself is also okay, normal, and something other people deal with as they deal with everyone else.

The small steps are important. They're important because large things seem overwhelming, but ultimately, nothing is large that cannot be broken down into smaller, simple steps. Take mathematics. People get scared of higher level math because it looks stupidly complicated. But you can break every step of a problem down to more simple steps, and those into more simple steps, and so forth. The point is to break down any problem, no matter how large, into chucks you can complete. Once you are accomplishing things, you can make progress. Depression is a sense of helplessness and apathy at the larger picture. You have to address the small steps to work against the big problem.

-even if i'm completely at fault for all the bad things that happen, that is not comforting. it still feels bad, and i can't just flip a switch and decide to not be the cause of my bad luck any more.

-i don't need any sort of perfection in understanding. SOME understanding would be good. i get pretty much nothing above the level of some smalltalk

-yes but same as with mathematics, if you absolutely have no sense of progress after you complete each of those small chunks and have no real idea what you are even working towards, or if you're going in the right direction, then the problem will be overwhelming.

Plus the rant above was at least on topic. Because I would've also liked to hear some counterexamples. Success stories of these threads.
And if you know me talk to me on skype or something, there's no need to bring down the other people ITT with my bad luck and depressing life.

Also, you, or someone else saying something like this is pretty much exactly what i had hoped for when posting my recent experiences with this group finding.

It wasn't intended to be comforting. Would you appreciate that? I doubt you would. It would be childish, shallow reassurance. You can't flip a switch, but that's the beauty of taking the small steps. You aren't expected to just reverse things so they can be wonderful and glorious. You win in increments, eventually, a bit at time.

You might say, I took a walk - big deal - I feel the same, and I accomplished nothing. But you did. You set something before yourself and you achieved it. Tomorrow, set something slightly more ambitious. And so on. Knowing you can accomplish small things, you then know you can accomplish the slightly bigger things. And you carry this momentum until you hit that wall you had before, to attack it, because you know you can by that point. It all comes down to momentum. People don't just chance into success, or social circles, or accomplishments. They build upon the many, many steps they took prior. It's the same with anything.

I don't know, or want, your skype. This thread needs bumps anyway. THINK about all this before you reply.

>It would be childish,
So completely suitable for me.
>increments
Which again I cannot see and I cannot even know if I'm going in the right direction.

>you then know you can accomplish the slightly bigger things
Why would I know that?
That slightly bigger thing the next day might well be the straw that breaks the camels back. Indeed it has at times. It's also difficult to carry any sort of momentum if you're being constantly reminded of how inadequate everything you do is. And again, I don't even know if I'm going to achieve anything with what I'm doing.
So when I hit that wall again, I'll most likely just fail again and again. Like I have before. Because you cannot tell me that others didn't succeed faster and easier at totally basic things, like finding a game group.

If you don't know my skype, where do you know me from? Or did you just mean you've seen me post in these threads before?
