Could an empire survive in such a position? Tend to break it up into smaller kingdoms.

YEs.

Could survive depending on arrangement of the EMpire.

If Golden HORde anD and the Ilkhanate can count as Empires then so can this.

People will do exactly what they are told provided you don't ell then to do something they don't what to do.

Provided they see the Emperor as at least sort of on thier side. Or at least not against them when the getting is good.

YOu have a Khanate and a Republic among t kingdoms. For this implies that each unit political/social beneath and within the Empires aegis is free to do as it wants with in its own bounds.

Tjhis implies a nebulous empire. More of a protection racket and a common call to arms as needed with a bit of taxation. Nothing intensive or culturally domineering about that. Nothing wrong with that.

Mongolian Empire was like that and they were unmatched in terms of Earth's surface covered until Britain went critical.

This is not accounting for any possibility of incompatible and fanatical religious nutteris in authority.

Empires don´t survive long. There´s very few exceptions, like the Byzantine Empire. Most die within 2/3 centuries, if not earlier.

It would depend on:
-how and why did the empire come to be
-how different are the people within
-how are the people within, in general
-how are the neighbors
-how decent is live in the area

People revolt when they´re hungry or bored. No matter how pissed off they are, as long as they´ve got bread and circus they´ll keep going. The French Revolution didn´t explode until a series of bad harvests caused a big famine.

If the people are well fed, then it´s the nobles (if they exist) what might cause a division on their quest for personal power and glory.

An empire of content enough people and nobles that, for one reason or the other, can´t or don´t want to make a rebellion will survive. Russia´s so big because the nobles were all so far away that they didn´t even know each other, so there was no point in making a rebellion because nobody would support you.

Long story short, it depends how the society and the world itself is.

History is full of anomalies so we can't make hard rules about what can and can't survive, but...

>Landlocked
>Only natural borders are with the Ryaniem league and the Badlands
>Open plains and nothing else

A few rivers might help their survivability, as they're generally easier to defend than just open plains. As it is now, they're in a horribly vulnerable position against enemies who almost all have a much better position. Compare for example the Ryanien league. They have a nice, cozy mountain range defending them against the Atharien Empire, another one against the Kingdom of Vergan and naval access.

Absolutely not, though the situation is salvageable. Add a river next to Osorth - forms a nice border and gives the Empire valuable farmland. I'm assuming it has the coastlines near Vergam/Hephal(?) and Dural/Osorth? If it doesn't it needs them to survive (sea trade, natural borders) so give them to it. While you're at it, definitely slap a river between Erom/Athariem and Hephal to make border defense against nomads at all possible and consider a river between Vergan and Athariem. A river leading down from the Athariem/Ryamiem range would be best for long-term defense, but one coming down from Vergam leaves a nice gap for you to exploit story-wise. They probably need some defense from Farakh and i'd suggest swampland that connects with the Osorth river; it's somewhat more likely to form in a wet area with little sea access, it's basically impossible to get through (without building expensive, easily-defensible roads), and it provides story opportunities ranging from rare products to lost empires. Though this isn't directly related to defense, you might also want a big river winding through Erom and Athariem to the Osorth/Dural sea, maybe connect it to the Osorth/Athariem river to make a delta. Geographically, Athariem is probably super dry, isolated by mountain ranges as it is, and a cradle-of-civilization level river makes it viable. If they can grow enough food, then they can support a large population, then they can recover from disasters and invasions, then they can avoid dependence on foreign grain during said disasters, then they can survive a lot longer. You'll note that this does leave a few regions vulnerable - Dural and Erom have no natural borders with Athariem and Vergam might too. That's by design. A stable empire fights constant low-intensity border wars to keep its army from getting bored and its populace from getting ambitious. A prosperous, peaceful empire will inevitably turn on itself.

Yes definitely. Optional improvements; add badlands or hills to the Vergam/Ryamiem/Athariem border to make it harder to invade with large armies and promote brush wars, add a map-visible path through the Athariem/Farakh swamp to channel invaders down an easily-fortifiable path, and swing the Erom/Athariem river further inland to maximize farmland and self-sufficiency. An empire that can't support itself can't defend itself! However, what you have already should do well and none of these are truly necessary.

PS Fantasy nation names that end with "n" are super common and not very distinctive. My n/m font confusion might actually benefit you if you choose to use it

Nigger did you even read my post >>45241501

We CAN´T tell you whether it´s likely or not if you don´t tell us more about the society/es of the empire and the world itself.

Not him, but why is this a disadvantage? The German Empire was landlocked and a powerhouse.

The German Empire didn't exist until industrialization. Before that, "Germans" didn't even exist as a concept.

Barring the Prussians under Fredrick the Great and certain times of the Holy Roman Empire (name is misleading) under certain people, that area wasn't really a powerhouse.

The German Empire wasn't landlocked, it had a long coastline along the Baltic and managed to maintain a colonial empire. Once the First World War came around, the British blockade of Germany via the North Sea really fucked them up.

>>45252814
Not strictly true. The Holy Roman Empire had been attached to the phrase 'of the German Nation' for centuries before its dissolution by Napoleon. Germans have been a clear cultural bloc since the Early Middle Ages.
