Tau got a hugely pyrrhic victory in the second Damocles Gulf crusade storyline. They technically won by holding off the Imperial crusade and prevventing them from recapturing a key system, but the planet in the system the Tau were planning to turn into a major colony world got rendered unliveable and the the entire Third Sphere Expansion had to be put on hold untill they figure a way to bypass whatver the fuck Admech did to the Damocles Gulf.
Also, the fight againt Nids was more bullshit on the part of the Nids, methinks. They apparently somehow evolved their gaunts immune to pulse rifles. I'd like to see that on the tabletop, gaunts that can't be harmed with s5 weapons.

The only meaningful Imperial victories since the Scouring were Damnos, Pandorax, and the First and Second Wars for Armageddon (Ghaz getting bored and leaving on a mission from Gork and Mork after the Third is not the same as a win). Astute readers may note that all three involved sacrificing lives and resources in droves to accomplish nothing more that preventing the permanent loss of a planet. The Imperium achieving a merely Pyrrhic victory would be several steps up for them, and Macharius proved they couldn't make it stick anyway.
