The anime is so full of filler that it's basically unwatchable. There is a full like 50 episodes straight of filler at the end of the first series, and the second stops for filler literally in the middle of huge battles.
I do think that Naruto really redeemed himself through character growth in the second series, though. Shame I'll never finish it because when I was getting into it they broke for six straight months of boring filler that I refuse to watch.
In the long run, though she had to deal with the fact that the bad girl already had her way with him and he was a single dad because of it, by the time she won. Also another time the best girl didn't win directly, but got his son as a weird shota consolation prize.
And then the time best girl won but he died before seeing their child born. Much juicier I think is the fate of best guy.

My character was a noblewoman trained as an assassin to serve her noble house. Her sub-plot included three suitors - a charming fellow assassin who turned out to be the son of the grandmaster of the house, a bookish and sweet wizard from an allied house, and a tsundere rival assassin from an enemy house. I was angling for the grandmaster's son for a number of reasons, but the campaign conspired to render the tsundere rival character a better political marriage.

It was hinted at in a side-story that was supposed to teach readers that blood isn't what matters when you're talking about family. What matters is who loves you, who's there for you. Sakura raised Saradaby herself, which I guess means Sasuke isn't really her father?which means whether or not she gave birth to her, Sakura is Sarada's mother. In the end, Sarada is left in this weird limbo of no one actually telling her the truth and everybody being super shady for literally no reason because there's literally nothing to be ashamed of - Sasuke and his squad were on a mission, Sakura tagged along, they fucked, mission took a real long time, gave birth to Sarada at one of Orochimaru's outposts because there wasn't time to get to a hospital, Karin was midwife. That's it. All that secrecy and misdirection for nothing.

On the one hand, it teaches that in order for war to end, you have to choose for it to end, it won't just happen. If Senju and Uchiha are going to stop fighting, they're going to have to choose peace over war. To solve things with violence would mean that not only nothing has changed, but that the message is wrong and war really is the answer.
On the other hand, everything was pointing toward a final battle with Naruto and Sasuke, based on more than just "I want to fight you", but a real clash of ideals, principles and goals. And it's what would happen in any shonen action manga.

It needed more missions. Like real missions where Naruto and co wrestle with having to do bad shit for people they hate because they're getting paid, and the three of them create a real concrete bond. I never felt that Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura were ever really friends in a mutual sense.
Also, I would have given them some other jonin teacher. Hell, promote Iruka to jonin, give him some cool techniques and have him be a real presence in the series. Have Kakashi be this near-mythical figure shrouded in rumor (at least as regards the students - "He's got a genin squad now? But he never takes students! Never! I wonder what's changed...").
In part 1 of the Chunin Exam, have Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura introduced to Kakashi's squad instead of Guy's as the rookie-but-still-way-more-experienced (hell, give Guy to Naruto Sasuke and Sakura, teach Naruto the Lotus because that's a main-character-power).
In part 2, we get to see them in action.
In the prelims, we meet Kakashi for the first time.

At the end of the Pain arc, Nagato brings everybody who died in the attack back the same way that Granny Chiyo did, except he's an Uzumaki and therefore has an absurdly long lifespan and can therefore revive thousands of people, instead of just one person.
