POLL TIME

http://strawpoll.me/6501165

We'll have a few days of discussion, a week of signups, then /tg/ FUMBBL League II will kick off!
>>
Starting discussion off, anyone ever play with the old Undead roster that included a Vampire?

Seems like having a player like that would have pretty dramatically changed the play style of the team.
>>
Is it me or is diving tackle great on linedwarfs? Most teams, if they aren't super bashy, would rather run away than push him away if there's a lot of guard around. They already start with tackle so it's even better. And nobody expects a diving dwarf.

dive tackle on a player who already comes with tackle? It's probably the strongest passive play skill combo in the game. Even halflings will run out of rerolls.
>>
Hello there. I generally dont visit /tg/ often, but i really wanted to participate in a comfy league.

Is there any place with a full list of differences between the rules used in cyanide's BBII and fumbbl?

Also, can anyone explain how the fumbbl league works?
When will the next season begin, and when will i be able to submit my team? Could i like just submit it right now or i need ot wait for some specific time when registration is open?

Also, how do people coordinate on their scheduled games? I am in yurop, and on workdays there's only like a 5-hour period when i can play. What happens if my scheduled opponent cant play at those times? Or do people just pick any available opponent during the regular season and scheduling becomes an issue only in playoffs?
>>
>>44810734
Registration will happen next week.(after sunday) The week after you will be able to play.

You send them a message when you can play and he answers when he can play.

>What happens if my scheduled opponent cant play at those times?
The opponent whose fault it is that the game cannot be played receives a loss.

>Or do people just pick any available opponent during the regular season and scheduling becomes an issue only in playoffs?
It's a swiss style tournament so coaches are seeded with each other.
>>
>>44810825
I already applied to the group some time ago with my team, is it a fuckup or am i all right?

It's a nerd format. Blood Bowl works fine (better) in classic knock-out / round robin or Group stage/knockout format. Swiss is just trying too hard.

>>44813385
Are you drunk? I just said "league format" in my post. I take it as read that you know how a league works. And yes, it's a round robin.

Your issue is you don't think players would commit to that. I'm saying you're wrong about that. Anyone who plays tabletop is committing to that duration because you can realistically only fit in one or two games a week tops.

With the added convenience of online play, there is no reason it should take that long. And, even if it does, it is still much easier to sustain online than in real life.

Why do you think it works for tabletop yet wouldn't?
>>
>>44814245

We have already played a season with 26 people. We still had a couple of weeks where some coaches barely got a match together in time for a week deadline due to conflicting schedules, and one case where there was a default.

You are arguing based entirely on supposition. You are also making some pretty generous assumptions on the ability of the average /tg/ goer to commit to such a long period of time when evidence to the contrary exists (see: other /tg/ online game leagues like /tg/ Mordheim, etc. that collapsed after only a month and a half of sustained play).
>>
Which team is easier to play as, undead or necro?
>>
>>44814021
Too bad the faggots only have 7AV and are a high-priority target. I dont think any of my HiE catchers ever survived beyond level 5.

Their careers are spectacular, but very short.
>>
>>44813966

>>
>>44814377
That's fine, we're basically getting to the bottom of it now. The choice of Swiss is not because of hat tips, it's because the user base is unreliable. Round robin or proper world cup would be much better, but the gamers cannot be trusted to run these tournaments well enough for it be worth the effort of organising.
>>44814384
Undead is more forgiving, necro is more fun. Both can be hard bastards.

>>44814878
Of course i do, but by that point i am up against teams with plenty of tackle and occasional mighty blow.

Blodge-sidestep are usually the first ones to grab, but i prefer sure feet or jump up to leap.

Jump up is really great because even if someone blitzes the ball carrier, you often just get back up next turn, grab the ball and score it. On a doubles you grab NoS or dump off. One is good if you like putting the catcher near the endzone and waitiong for a pass opportunity, the other if you are are more often getting through with more than 1 guy.

On a 10-roll i usually grab MA, in the long run it makes it more likely the catcher gets a permanent injury or dies, but the MA advantage give you a bigger increase in a chance to win a game.

I usually try to have as much variety in the team as possible. If you are playing in an infinite league and intend to play your team for long, it might be a good idea to have 3 wrestle+fend linemen who would start on the line of scrimmage on defense. In general, the players who sustain more blocks than make them are better off with wrestle.

So, maybe 3-4 fends, and the rest grab side step first.

That's a good approach.

If its turn 1 and im on defense, i'd probably put my guard players in a safe position, not next to the opposing team. Then move them in depending on which flank my opponent is more likely to try and getting through.

Do you have any advice for SPP management on Skaven if I'm interested in reaching top 5 in the qualifier league? I do quite well actually playing Skaven in the perpetual league, but I haven't really had to concern myself with optimization and efficiently distributing levels.

I understand it's important to level your non-GRs. Should I prioritize getting a linerat 2 tds in the first game for the quick kick? How should I value leveling linerats in comparison to blitzers? Is a thrower worth it for 20 games, or should I just relegate a GR to ball duty? How deep of a bench should I keep?

Am I a bad enough dude to take a rat ogre?

Yes, you can apply immediately. The league organizer will have to approve your inclusion, so a message might also help.

>What happens if my scheduled opponent cant play at those times?
Couple of points:
-FUMBBL doesn't "drop" matches. If you disconnect during a match you can simply resume where you left off. It's quite possible to play in an almost PbEM format where players play in whatever short chunks they can afford. It's a pain to do but it's an option.
-You can concede the match - let the league organizer know.

Personally if you feel your schedule doesn't allow you to commit to the tournament, don't commit. It sucks, but sometimes if you don't have the free time you don't have the free time.

Keepers of secrets are too intelligent and agile to be your bog-standard dumb big guy, but I don't know how you'd go about representing an agility based big-guy.

I'd replace 'bonehead' with some near-identical negatrait, but just rename it "capricious" or something.

She should also start with multiblock rather than claw, I think because I seem to remember KoSs having tons of arms with slashing blades.

Sure. I just settled on bone-head on the idea that its not actually stupid, but just decided to stop playing bloodbowl for a while. And its simplest to just work within the rules and say it has bonehead.

Multiblock sounds cool, but multiblock is also atrocious, so there's that. Probably should give the thing break tackle.

Drop regen from Daemonettes, they're in the Witch Elf glass cannon class imo.

Mutation access on normals seems like a more fitting idea, at the very least on the demons.

Keeper should get Hypno Gaze and Agility access imo, dropping Disturbing Presence (which is more of a Nurgle power).

Slaanesh should play more like the most agile of the Chaos teams, with Claw being a good representation of their Armour Piercing abilities.

Both disturbing presence and foul appearanve are good for both nurgle and slaanesh. Disturbing presence can represent the perfumes and pheromones which are part of slaanesh

If you're playing perpetual it's probably best to start on the next stormvermin ASAP but then again nothing matters in perpetual. In a league... probably depends on how much time is left in the season. You might be better just toughing it out; as he's already got Claw and MB.

>ANY coach, NEW or RETURNING, may start a NEW team

The criteria for entry to /tg/ League II are:

>ANY coach with can enter, with either a RETURNING team from /tg/ League I or a NEW team if they wish for a real challenge

After a 6-game Swiss tournament in both leagues, the top 6 teams from the main league, and top 2 from the rookies will play-off for the overall Championship.
>>
>>44842220
Sounds reasonable, but I'm not sure you'll have balanced numbers of teams in both leagues.
>>
>>44842220

So that pretty much bars the idea of coaches entering in both if we're going to have a mixed Championship?
>>
>>44842220
>have submitted 3 teams to the league
>not have been accepted
>>
>>44842555
I'd still want to join the rookie league with a team I'd play just for fun and throw it away after a season while tryharding with my actual team.
>>
>>44842220
Mixed championship would mean coaches would have to pick one or the other, rather than running a team in both.

If you had completely split leagues with completely split championships then population is less of an issue, as veteran coaches can always start another TV1000 team. Still, I'm willing to try it.
>>
>>44842558

I think he wants to finalize the league structure so he knows who to put in what before accepting the applying teams.
>>
>>44842220

I'm okay with this. I think letting people joing both leagues will eventually just result in a big hassle.I like that the play-offs are connected, but maybe it should be a 4-4 split between the leagues instead?
>>
Ok, so a couple things:

Just won me a game as WE.

Got a Catcher with Sure Feet, NoS, and Sprint who just picked up another level. Assuming I don't roll doubles, do I buy him Block, or is there something more interesting to be done?

My kicker with no other skills just picked up a level as well. Dodge, or is there another skill to throw on him?

Also, I've got two dead players, and just rolled a 6 for winnings to bring me to 14k. Thing is, I've only got two rerolls right now. Do I buy two new linemen, or do I buy the reroll and live with the Journeymen?
>>
>>44843939
Block is always good on everything
Buy a reroll so it can be wasted on loners assuming you have an apo
>>
>>44815133
How do you play as Bretts though? I really wanna play as Bretts but the team looks weird. How do you build blitzers? Only Pass / general access seems stupid.
>>
>>44843939

The catcher wants block to help him stay up, dodge is good for the lineman, or wrestle if you don't have anyone else with it.

What positionals do you have? I wouldn't buy new linemen, but a treeman helps a lot to protect from further injuries.
>>
>>44844051
Bltzers are, despite the name, your ball carriers.

One variant I had a fuckload of fun doing was to take NoS on all of the Blitzers, then put dump off on one or two of them.

Now you've got a running team that can pass the ball even in the middle of a scrim, and can make for some really weird running plays because you're so hard to cover.

Add to the fact that Blockers picking up Fend + Guard and Linemen picking up wrestle, and you've got a team that's quite handy defensively and can make the holes your blitzers need offensively.

Wrestle and Fend on everything makes you hilariously hard to make any headway against, and Dwarf teams basically straight up lose to you unless they can move the ball some other way. And the NoS Dump Off trick means that even if they make a hole to blitz your blitzers, odds are they're not going to actually get the ball away from you.
>>
>>44844088
Two War Dancers(one brand new after another died, one a fucking monster with +MA, +AG and Side Step) along with a Thrower with Accurate and Strong Arm.

Three other linemen have picked up dodge, plus the kicker.

I wasn't sure about a Treeman, I just feel like he's going to cost me turnovers, and I've already got the team on the long pass track, so picking up a brand new big guy who limits my mobility seems a little foolish.
>>
>>44844221

He's not really there to hurt the opposition, he's there to take hits. Basically it's one less elf getting blocked each time you kick.

He's mostly good for the long run, since he cuts down on attrition. If there's play-offs coming up soon I might skip him, otherwise he's a good bet.

How many catcher do you have? If you only have the one I'd probably buy a catcher and turn him into a secondary ballhawk, with Wrestle and Tackle. If you have two catchers already and you don't want the tree you should but the re-roll.
>>
>>44844143
I just played my second game with Bretts and got my 4th Blitzer.
I am thinking about building one as the dedicated ball carrier with Sure hands, Dump off etc.
Should I give one frenzy and the rest tackle as first skills?
>>
>>44844356
Only the one Catcher so far, I spent the early life of the team recovering from a spat of injuries.
>>
>>44844383

See, that's where the tree is good, because he cuts down on those injuries. How good he is depends a lot on the league you're in though, the more bash the more he'll do for you.
>>
>>44844372
One wants Leader, it's 10 TV for a free reroll.

I don't know if I like them with Tackle. I rarely use them to mark players, since they like to either be blitzing bigger threats or they like to be clustered together to make dump off that much more effective. I can see the benefit, but I'd rather it be on my blockers.

Frenzy works very well on one of them, makes them real threats for crowdsurfing and even better at opening those running holes.

If you can manage a double on a blocker, they make acceptable blitzers for grabbing the ball. If you roll doubles on any others, Jump Up makes them rather hilarious combined with Wrestle.

Fend is another skill that goes super well on any of your positionals, since the more Fend you've got, the better Fend gets.
>>
>>44844442
Kind of balanced, I guess. Got Humans > High Elves > Bye > Dark Elves > Dwarves > Orcs for the rest of the league games.
>>
>>44844641

Tree isn't high priority in that case, getting one before facing the dwarves would be really nice though.

I'd probably get the Re-Roll and then the tree once you've faced the Dark Elves. Then get a catcher the next time you have the money.

>>44845461
I wouldn't say so. They lack a thrower to make the longer passes, and they only like to fight defensively, rather than offensively. Plus they can't use their linemen nearly as well for anything other than bogging down the other team.

Is kick worth it on Undead, Necro, or Nurgle? Do they have too many positionals to let a lineman off the line on defense? Are they fast enough to take advantage of a kick?
>>
>>44851585

Kick is always worth it.

Zombies and Rotters aren't worth getting very many skills on to begin with, I think the only time I'd turn down taking Kick right away is if one managed to get a double for Guard.
>>
>>44840827
mmm it seems like you have the outdated version of the game. play it offline and see if it interests you, since you are on /tg/ i am guessing you have the attention span to red the rulebook, so do that, since BB1 is not very easy to pick up if you don't.
After a trial time i would upgrade to caos edition or play on fumbbl, no reason to get BB2 if you have complete versions of the game

necro definitely, undead maybe, nurgle not really.Remember kick is always good on everyone, but you need that speed to make it really worth it,i usually consider good kickers humans and faster teams, but that might be wrong, i am no pro.

Also the games seem to take forever.
>>
>>44852473
people on fumbbl are better, this doesn't mean it's necessarily a better place to become better, but it's definitely where you want to be if BB2 seems too easy for you(i have 9 wins and 15 losses on fumbbl and yet i manage to have several undefeated BB2 teams, just understand how different the level is). You shouldn't be afraid of fumbbl really, you will find noobs too and it's easy and fast to get good at blood bowl since it's turn based

The Bloodbowl highlight from this article:

>The other impression I got, was that at least for blood bowl, The initial boxed set will be created like a GW studio product. Plastic teams and such. And then all the support products will be Resin. In the same way, there is now a HH boxed game produced by the studio.

I thought I would let you guys know, it looks promising, what with the picture shown from the last event.

How does Guid Ball compare to Blood Bowl?
>>
>>44854901

>>
>>44853057
No. Things like pitch invasion are there to remind you that you are playing a game of random dice and you can never afford to become too complacent, nor put too much value in your triumphs.

My worst pitch invasion experience came on turn 14 after a really close fought match. My opponent had just taken a 2-1 lead and was kicking off to my chaos dwarfs. Suddenly, pitch invasion. All bar one of his team goes down stunned. Ball touches back. I hand it to a hobgoblin, who saunters upfield for an easy score to tie the game.

I have never felt worse.

SIGNUPS for /tg/ League II are OPEN

Ensure your team meets the criteria set out in >>44842220

https://fumbbl.com/p/group&group=9828&op=view

Apply to the Group on FUMBBL with your [L] Team, and PM me (MauledByTheTigers) stating your team name and which league you wish to join. I've wiped a couple of applications from teams with games played or multiple applications. I will reply with whether you got everything right or not.

This means you can only apply with ONE team to join either /tg/ League II or the Rookies. Choose wisely whether you want to be a Rookie or not.

If you're "abandoning" a /tg/ League I team to start a new team, don't worry, they may play again one day, just don't have any non-/tg/ League games in the meantime with them.

Applications will be open for a week.

From the very nice amount of feedback I've got, we have the numbers for this. If somehow we do not, then there will be a rethink at the end of the week.

Any questions, go ahead.

Cages trade mobility for absolute safety for the ball carrier. They're meant to buy you time while you probe for an opening in the defence. That being said, you're definitely correct in that new players often cage unnecessarily, especially with mobile teams - there are many times when all that is needed is a loose screen.
>>
>>44864446
With DE especially you cannot get suckered into trying to invest too many resources in dealing with the cage, since handoffs and passes are easy and dump-off keeps the ball in play. Keep in mind though that unlike other elves DE linemen cannot outrun MA6 (which tends to be "average" movement), and Blitzers tend to want to be in the thick of the action despite being MA7, which means DE will almost always be in movement range to mark and/or blitz (unlike say Pro or WE who can keep away all day).

Remember the rule of 6 - since every 1 is a turnover you want to try and force at least 6 turnover-causing rolls every one or two turn (usually dodges) and slowly grind down the DE player's RRs. Yes, it's frustrating to close in and then watch the ball get dumped-off/quick-passed to another player, but so long as you don't overcommit you will eventually force a turnover.
