This thread has really reminded me how important music is to capture a setting. Listening to some of these and I can appreciate the cools bits of 40k.
I'm thinking right now about how Humanity are the consummate survivors, hanging on for dear life and resorting to zealotry and xenophobia because multiple galaxy wide apocalypses have nearly ended them. Nobody in the Imperium is cruel just because they are dicks- it's necessary for survival. Yeah, the fact that they lobotomize fuckers and plug them into machines is pretty disturbing, but they have to so they don't recreate fucking terminator. Again.
