rules question

Let's say a spell like Ghostway is cast. When it resolves it exiles each creature that player controls. When it resolves it also sets up a delayed trigger: at the beginning of the next end step, return the exiled creatures to play.

Is that delayed trigger a "triggered ability" ?? Could it be stifled? It uses the stack I presume, and I dont think its a spell on the stack is it?

similarly, the card Memory Jar has an activated ability (obviously that could be stifled), and this activated ability sets up a delayed trigger as well. Is that delayed trigger also a "triggered ability" ??

tl;dr can spells and abilities have abilities?

Don't listen to the naysayers, anon. I've been testing a Mina and Denn list and having an Exploration effect in the command zone is fantastic. It was already one of the best ways to get ahead in those colors and now you have access to it all the time. It's even better with Courser of Kruphix and Oracle of Mul Daya, and even Crucible of Worlds for consistent land drops. The only problem is finding ways to keep the threats coming, since RG doesn't excel at tutoring. Basically, I think they have potential to be broke as fuck and not just a worse angry Omnath deck.

I put my list up top there.

She's surprisingly strong at what she does. I really need a Xiahou, though if only to grab some enchantments back. Obviously he does so much more, but that's the biggest issue sometimes. Rip/Cage/Leyline are also tricky, but I don't see them too often. It's usually Spellbomb/Bojuka with the occasional Stonecloaker. I thought about Praetor's Grasp since the deck is pretty proactive anyway.

>>
>>44657459
I think it was a matter of budget at the time, Leonin Arbiter is just much cheaper. Also easier on my curve, I generally want to play another creature before Anafenza so I get some value out of her first attack trigger.

Since I can play around my own Leonin Arbiter by fetching first, it's really no more counterproductive than having Thalia and noncreature spells in the same deck.
>>
Hey EDH General.

I'd like to build a 5-color "Legendary Tribal" Deck with Progenitus and the "Adventurers' Guild-house" cycle. Obviously Banding is powerful because you get to control how all damage is assigned (more or less), and by using Legends with protection, I can stop all combat damage while beating face. Additionally all the incremental wacky bonuses from the Legends would build up to have quite a toolbox.

Is this a stupid idea?
Is this so stupid that it actually might work?
>>
>>44657528
He looks really fucking bonkers in EDH. You'll be able to get him out so damn early and draw artifacts will always keep you supplied with cards to counter stuff with.

A turn 3 or 4 Kozi can be devastating.
>>
Coat of arms reads :Each creature gets +1/+1 for each other creature on the battlefield that shares at least one creature type with it.

I am right that this does not synergize with Doubling season or cards that target +1/+1 counters, correct?
>>
>>44657528
>>44657606
I really see no point in running him over regular Kozilek.

On average, they'll draw the same amount of cards. But with new Kozilek, you're trading annihilator (which will put someone out of the game in a deck like Kozilek) for some evasion (but annihilator is still the best evasion) and a weird Disrupting Shoal-on-a-stick effect in a format where spell CMCs are incredibly varied.

For colorless you have both Kozilek and Karn, both are super potent. I've played Karn for quite some time now and he's a great deck, if you want colorless control, go for him. Kozilek is just nothing but ramp to cast him way sooner than usual and then beat your opponents into the ground while you have a fresh new hand.
>>
>>44657623
Correct. It just modifies power and toughness. No counters are added by Coat of Arms.

It's actually very fun.

If you have any input or expeience with it or even just thoughts, I'm always open for ideas.

>>44657255
Flipwalkers work for a number of reasons.

A)You can let them to to exile like >>44657369 said and have them return. There's no downside to this because there is no time to respond while she's in exile.

B)It doesn't matter which zone she goes to when the trigger resolves. It only says "then return her to the battlefield transformed under her owners control." Even if there was a card that said "If a card would be exiled, put it into its owners graveyard instead", she would still return since its a replacement effect and therefore only changes zones ounces before returning. If she somehow changed zones again before she returned, which can't happen since it's part of the resolution of the ability, then she would be in trouble.

>>
>>44657655
New Kozilek is going to be drawing way more than 4 cards on average. I'd put it somewhere in between 5 and 6 cards a cast, and close to the latter.

It's going to be a nuts deck.

1. Play tons of cheap mana rocks
2. Ramp out Kozilek on turn 2 or 3 every time.
3. Proceed to control the board with nearly uncounterable counterspells while also drawing through your entire deck with recasts.
4. Play a combo and win.

The entire reason old kozilek was an okay commander was that it drew you 4 cards, which is a powerful effect to have in the command zone. This card will draw you more in a well built deck, and provides counterspell back up to your combos to boot.
>>

No worries, I'll probably end up making him online anyway and put him on the pile of decks I have there before eventually deciding.

Old Kozilek still essentially refills your hand and the difference is he's crippling. Like your opponent can take a hit from new Kozilek and be okay. Not happy, but okay. Ramp out old Kozilek and swing? That game is done for them. They lost so many resources that they can't interact with you.

The fact that the counter is just so conditional means it's just not reliable. He dies to any piece of removal and he probably will die. Like most removal floats at around 1-2 CMC. What will you ditch in colorless to counter that which you wouldn't have already cast for an early Kozilek? I mean you have at 1 CMC probably Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and Voltaic Key. You'll need one of these cards for a turn 2-3 Kozilek. Even then, turn 2-3 Kozilek is not "reliable", it's lucky. I mean your opener needs to be like Ancient Tomb->Mana Vault->Voltaic Key->Thran Dynamo->Sculpting Steel as Thran Dynamo to do something that stupid. Most of the time you get it turn 4-5 if you're lucky on the mana rocks (and running more rocks means less control).

As someone who has been playing colorless for a while now, Newzilek (?) is just weaker than Oldzilek and Karn for colorless slots.

He refills your hand on cast anon. If he's on the board, you already have a full hand to counter removal, full of one to two mana artifacts that you didn't have a chance to cast before, because they were in your deck.

Also, old kozilek was never really used by for the combat step, except by casuals misguided about most people's definition of casual. It was entirely his draw ability.

So you can basically blank out the annihilator 4.

What you're left with is

>more efficient draw ability
>plus an actually relevant ability.

It's almost strictly better.

You're welcome.

You always get to chose what zone your commander ends up in. If it would get sent to your library, you can let that happen if you like(relevant if you're playing Cromat), or if it would hit the GY, you can let that happen too(relevant if you're playing a commander like Tymaret). It's your call, so it's your choice to let your flipwalker's exile effect resolve.

I would argue Sydri as a change of pace from your other two decks, but Jarad is cool too. With Sydri you'd have some combos, some control, lots of rocks, easy high drops, and lots of fun utility like Mirrorworks. If that sounds more fun than saccing and selfmill while playing big guys, go for it.

If you want infinite XP counters for Newzuri, Cloudstone Curio + Aluren is a nice combo.

Also gives you infinite ETB triggers and often wins you the game on the spot.
>>
>>44658199
Well my honest suggestion is test it. In such a high variation format as EDH I feel his ability is unreliable but that's just me. Either way you'll run some mixture of colorless Eldrazi and one of them will be worthy of that commander slot. Try both Kozileks, see what works for you.

Personally, I'll stick to Karn. He's a combo piece on his own and with the right cards he will lock the board. Nothing like Liquimetal Coating + Rings of Brighthearth for a double Strip Mine every turn.

I think being able to control how combat damage is assigned is powerful. You can completely shut down tramplers and turn tricky combat situations in your favor.

Just don't.

And play actual, powerful cards.
Or try to go mono-white and use that Human Soldier from Innistrad whose ability is to say what blocks what.
>>
>>44658636

I figured Knacksaw and Thada could do about the same thing repeatedly (with my self-bounce/blink effetcts) for cheaper and triggering exp counters.

>>44658655

I managed infinite counters last night with Deadeye + Cloud of Faeries. Aluren may be a situational thing. There is a problem though in the "any player" clause which would enable the Meren, Krenko, and/or Kresh decks of my playgroup similar advantage...
>>
>>44658851
The issue is cards with banding aren't good. It's not like you get a sweet creature with banding stapled on it. So you're forcing yourself to play bad cards for an ability that's sometimes useful. In reality, combat is never that tricky in EDH where you'll need a quadruple block and assign damage differently among your creatures. They swing in with something monstrous, you'll chump it or take it to the face either way, regardless of banding.

It's not even like infect where bad creatures become good because of infect, you're paying for an ability that doesn't help you win the game at all.
>>
>>44654582
You really can't say, since they do different things altogether. Mostly, recursion is more important, at least to me, and i don't run many cheap creatures in some of my decks.
>>44654824
Errata: If you would choose a premodern legendary creature, choose a modern legendary creature instead.

Just things like Jace's Erasure, Sphinx' Tutelage, Niv-Mizzet and Psychosis Crawler combined with a shitload of card draw and hand-refreshers along the lines of Mindmoil, the Wheel spells and even Teferi's Puzzle.

Don't forget your infinite handsize artifacts and you should be good to go.

Usually, if you manage to get Tutelage out with Erasure and Arjun, it's a guaranteed Mill win, while Psychosis and/or Niv-Mizzet tend to kill your opponents in around 2 turns as well.

I'm starting to isolate myself in my regular EDH group by playing my only deck - Mono Black Erebos,

The deck's about locking the board out of creatures, gaining a shitload of life, turning that life in to cards, etc.

It's got the easy 2 infinite combos in it (Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank, Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond), as well as creating a bunch of mana and just draining people to death.

Yah, can tell from your two choices there. Well, would you be able to have fun with a deck you know is janky? I would have recommended picking out a legend and building around it knowing that it would never be a very powerful deck, but if you wouldn't enjoy playing it there wouldn't be much point. Sounds like your best option might be just building a deck every bit as potent as you'd like it to be and pull your punches if you steamroll too hard. That or just find a more cutthroat group.

Can you Enchant Creature on an Enchantment Creature if the creature is an enchantment?

Eg, giving a god Hexproof whilst it's an enchantment.

There's a guy who regularly links his "Burn Control" version. I took some cues from it, and will post my version some time this weekend when I muster the energy to enter it all.

And yes, she is fun. Maximum fun. There's a number of Ashling players here that share a special sort of bond...

Trying to build a low-cost colorless deck seems pointless.

I'll post it for this guy, though.

>First 10 player gathering, five of them have Ashling decks

They stuck to those decks for a long time too. Almost every EDH day the table had three or more of them there.

I'm super pumped for this thing in Nahiri >>44659581. I already run Hero of Bladehold and Brimaz so turning anyone into a psuedo Hero is cool. Captain's claws and Stone Haven Outfitter have pleased me this set.

How does Alesha like, even work? Sure, she's transexual, but it's not like Tarkir has hormone therapy or plastic surgery, and the Mardu don't seem like they are the type to have any sort of cosmetic magic. Does she just like, try to keep a swimmer's physique and stuff her breastplate?
>>
>>44661243
that + a naturally feminine face can get you pretty far in that regard

>>44661243
she's transgendered, physically male but identifies as female because she really liked her grandma's name and names are/were a thing for the mardu.

There's a pretty good pastebin that has her encounter Kolaghan, it's pretty hot
>>
>>44660966

Eh, I just see it frequently here and I do think it's a good list. I'm not going to tell you to stop posting it.

>>44661318

Squee + Kher Keep + Trading Post + Skullclamp = card draw generating cycle, I presume.

I need to update both of them since the decks are a bit different than what I was testing with the solitaire simulator. I run a bunch of pet cards.

Isn't Kolaghan a female dragon? So, Trap on Dragoness?

I'd read that.

I dunno, she looks pretty feminine here, atleast in the face. Flat as a board though.

He was never featured prominently before and now doesn't even exist, so yah, pretty insignificant.

Greenwarden.

I was excited about Bellower when it came out, but it's actually surprisingly narrow. Most of the high impact green cards start at 4 CMC and It can't even search for things like Dosan or Yisan.

You can use Bellower to search for Courser of Kruphix to prevent manafucking
>>
>>44659694
Kuro, Pitlord.
>>
>>44661734

It's not so much that they are a single combo, but synergize well. Skullclamp is a classic for saccing 1/1 creatures to draw two cards. Squee comes back to your hand from the graveyard so you can continually skullclamp him for a relatively cheap cost for 2 cards each time. In a similar manner, Trading Post and Kher keep can continually provide creatures to clamp.

Love my main decks, but I'm having a lot of fun playing Lavinia.
>>
>>44661767
For some sad reason I didn't even include Courser in the deck that had Bellower.

The things I usually fetch with Bellower are:
> Somberwald Sage
> Shaman of Forgotten Ways
> Korozda Guildmage
> Fierce Empath
> Eternal Witness
> Skullwinder
>>
>>44661885
can you post your lavinia list?

I'm building Rasputin blink so I'd appreciate a good shell
>>
>>44661621

She wasn't erased, was she? I thought Fates Reforged takes place in Tarkir's past, while Khans was the original timeline and Dragons the new timeline from Sarkhan saving Ugin.
>>
My decks though. Can't post pics atm.

> Jolrael, Empress of Beasts (Beast and Wolf Tribal)
> Ob Nixilis The Fallen (Landfall Voltron)
> Meloku, The Clouded Mirror (Landfall + Tokens)
> Jazal Goldmane (Tokens)
> Urabrask the Hidden (Voltron)
>>
>>44661415
Alright. As long as it's not getting annoying. I need update it, though.

>>44661318
>>44661734

Squee does what >>44661872 said with Skullclamp, but I can also use him with Chandra Ablaze (4 damage every turn is very useful) and Daretti (Discard Squee for another card every turn). I'll also get to use him with the new Chandra because I'll always have at least 1 card in my hand.

At the very least, he sits there as a dumb blocker. Sometimes he even gets a Basilisk Collar.
>>
>>44656290
Do you have a good list of threats?
>>
>>44661974
I'm honestly not sure. It was my understanding that the timeline with the Klans is now nonexistent, and only a few characters from that timeline, Alesha not among them, went on to exist in the next one, but I'm really not sure, I'm don't follow the lore much.

Just rounded out a few more lands for my Jeleva deck. Was missing the new RB Dub land and Tainted Isle. There were others, but they were out, sadly. Here's my question: how many basics should I have? I'm currently at 9 (3 of each), and I really don't think I want to go any lower.

Also. Fucking need a Vamp and I am broken for a little while.

>>44662773
Reclamation Sage is good, but my Meren deck is too tight, and I use Bane of Progress for that purpose.

Has anyone tried making custom legendaries in their playgroup? We've tossed the idea around quite a bit and I think we might try it.

The idea would be everyone would make a custom card, bring it to the table, everyone would either approve it or make balance suggestions, then we'd build the decks once all of the commanders are approved.

Related question: in all of /tg/'s great and storied history has it ever deciphered wizards r&d algorithms? Like 1 colored mana common gets you a vanilla 2/1, 1/2, or 1/1 with a basic ability like landwalk or flying, or what have you.

She wasn't, and existed in both timelines. The thing is, she's probably long dead now since she lived during FRF times which is, what, 1000 years ago?
>>
>>44654533
I'm building Chromium dragon tribal right now. Also slivers, if Sliver Queen counts (since I'll just be able to choose out of the four)
>>
>>44654890
Oracle on her says birds, rather than falcons.
>>
>>44663254
>wizards r&d algorithms
That's not how it works at all. Card sets are designed by three people that do what feels good to them and then sent to a larger balance group that supposedly checks for stupid shit, but there is also an appeal process where the designer can defend a card and try to convince them to let it through. As long as it feels "right for the set", anything from delver to deathrite shaman to swiftspear to zurgo can pop up as a one drop.
>>
>>44662183
>>44661974
Khans of Tarkir = present day (old timeline)
Fate Reforged = 1,000 years ago
Dragons of Tarkir = present day (new timeline)

Alesha lived during Fate Reforged time 1,000 years ago. She still existed because her time period wasn't overwritten. She's long dead though, since she was a normal human and her lifespan was presumably a normal human one.
>>
>>44659615
I'm building slivers and I got all four legends so I (or whoever borrows my deck) can choose between games.

Anyone got an Ertai, the Corrupted list? I would imagine Hatching Plans is a powerhouse, any other gems?
