Looks like fun. I presume the center of the board in the left is the king finish line.

Pic related is the setup of a 4-player free-for-all variant that can be played on a normal board.

Which way do the pawns move?
>>
>>44647675
Forward. So each player's pawns moves towards the player on their left.

The guys who cooked up the variant had some fun rules. It's called "Machievellian" because one of the rules emphasize one of the key contradictions stated in The Prince. You must cooperate to defeat others, yet you must not allow others to become more powerful. The rule is that when you checkmate a player you get their pieces.

any other kinds of weird chess rules?
>>

>>44645950

These are dumb as hell and they miss the point of chess' design. The abstraction that chess plays with simply breaks down when you add additional sides like this.

witch kind of chess rules are that?
>>
>>44647853
The usual check/checkmate structure is preserved in the 4-player variant by the following rule: When a player is checked it becomes that player's turn next.
Pawns in that variant promote to anything but queens, but queens can be acquired by moving your king to the opposite corner of the board.
>>
>>44647869
It is unfortunate that having more than two players makes trading pieces almost categorically bad. On the other hand, that trading is bad means that the board state will remain very complicated for a long time.

Those are kings, not queens.

then it's BORING
>>
>>44651114
Then extend the pawn walls an extra square and add the queen somewhere. Or maybe switch the rooks with queens. Or maybe replace all the pieces with new pieces you made up while drunk. Having badwrongfun is easy.
>>
>>44647929
>witch kind of chess rules are that?
black has normal chess army
white has just a piece on the position of the king, this piece moves like queen and also as a knight, you cant put this piece on checked position or leave the piece on checked position

Computers discovered a way that white always win, and its some way that you would be able to memorise if you really wanted and many already did.
>>
>>44652676
so its bluff/ambush type chess?

What?

Nope, its just some conceptual variant

>Who is better a normal army or a single piece that has the moves of all pieces?

there is also this other conceptual variant called dusany chess (see pic)

>who wins 4 lines full of pawns or a normal chess team?
this one is not solved by computer yet
>>
>>44652916
ah, i understood it was a strong army vs a weak army type of chess
the bluff thing is due the need to go full akagi on the oponent

>normal vs 4 rows of pawns
well if the paws can transform thers a small posibility

What?
>>
>>44653680
Assassain chess. The pieces on the sides can be moved only in their columns, and other units can't enter those columns. For each square the "assassain" piece moves, it transates to a potential movement on the board. Save up enough moves, and your assassain can appear and take any piece.
>>
>>44653768
Even the king? isn't that a checkmate?
>>
>>44653990
Yes, but in the 12 moves it would take for an assassain to be able to checkmate a king, you could very easily have been checkmated youself.

code to zillion of games program
a variant with 5 lines of white pawns

>why 5
chess pieces are worth 39 plus king (said to be valued ~3 points), so 42
5 lines means 40 points worth of pawn

>why white first
the pawn side will have 40 points instead of 42

pawn can still promote (but not to king)
pawn on second rank can double step as usual
pawn on first rank can do a triple step on first turn, they can be captured enpassant but only on the place they would be if they moved just one square instead of 3.

There is no "last pawn is royal" thing because I wouldnt know how to code this

There are things wrong with reddit. The nature of the vote system emphasizes popular opinions and excludes unpopular ones in its communities. Anyway, chess is /tg/.

Actual chess isn't solved yet. Many mathematicians believe it might not be solveable.

Surely you jest. Even if there is a huge number of board configurations, they are finite, and thus solvable with a big enough computer.
>>
>>44657001
Not if the potential number of board configuration is larger than the maximal information density of the observable universe.

It's glorious. I can almost understand it but I can't really wrap my head around it.

Technically speaking that wouldn't make it mathematically unsolvable, that would make it physically unsolvable.

It's like how there's no mathematical reason we can't write graham's number in its entirety, we can't because it's too big to fit in the universe.

Although I note that I did playtest it a little after some kind anon assembled my ravings into a pdf, and right now moving in the past is stupidly overpowered (it affects all other boards, and you basically get, two moves in a row, making defense impossible) and moving in the future is utterly pointless.

To remedy this, I suggest that moving in the past should take up *both* turns of your two-move chunk. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to edit the pdf without ruining the formatting.

Also, board setup takes absolutely forever, and the little paper cutout pieces I made because I don't have seven labeled chess sets get blown around when someone breathes
>>
Seeing all this makes me want to run a cess game with all chess pieces, including fairy pieces, on a massive board.
