Warhammer 40k Figure Selling Question.

Is it possible to print your own figures and then sell them on them internetz, or is that "illegal" since I do not own the warhammer concept?
Anyone has any experience with this?

are you retarded?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal, and they're gonna look like shit, so nobody will buy them anyways.

3d printing?
>>
>>44622568
>>44622536
We don't get the question.

Do you mean Printing like in 3d printing?
Or do you mean Painting?
>>
>>44623960
print as in 3D print.
was it not obvious?
>Is it possible to print your own figures and then sell them
>>
>>44622536
That's what I call a retarded Bloodthirster
>>
As long as there are no blatant copyright infringements, no.
If you're talking about making your own custom Space Marine chapter bits, then your ass is goin' to jail.
>>
>>44623991
I was thinking along the lines of making an already existing figure in a 3d modeling program and then have it 3d printed.

You mean like this?
>>
>>44624014
yes. something along these lines.
>>
>>44624021
And you are aware that they'll look like shit because mankinds 3d-printing technology is not advanced enough for such fine details?
>>
>>44624021
Selling that would be illegal.
>>
>>44624034
not aware, hence why i am here asking.
>>
>>44623983

>>
>>44624059
Really, are you underage as fuck or just dumb as a bag of bricks?
>>
>>44622536

Yes It would be illegal if you straight of "stole" a miniature by scanning some one else's work.
That would be like scanning a book, and re-printing it for sale, would that be any less illegal? No.

China and countries with more than questionable copy right laws gets away with it, because no one actually gives a shit, and the price is right.

But in the end, we all pay for one thing, quality. What quality can I expect when I buy stuff from a home made 3d printer?
I'm in this because its a hobby, not just a game. I assemble, I fill, drill and fix, I paint and when thats all done I finally play! You see, the play part is just one tiny bit of the cake of the over all process. Up until the actual gameplay, its all about expecting a product to meet certain quality demands that I think is reasonable for the price given.

And as a side note, I doubt it would be no way playable in a official GW store, you would be called out straight of the bat, and asked to pack up your copied shit and leave.
>>
>>44624059
jesus youre dense

you dont even know what the technology is capable of,

nor what the basic law is regarding IP

what the fuck are you
>>
>>44624171
>Full-grown man playing with toys
You call it hobby, everyone else calls it mid-life crisis or Manchild.
>>
>>44624038
It really depends. That particular case is probably pushing it and most sensible manufacturers would probably scrap it to just avoid the possibility of lawsuit and following shitstorm, but if you sculpt a model from scratch, don't use any copyrighted imagery and don't try to sell it as established brand, that should be legal. If you practically scan some models and sell them as original, it's illegal, ofc.
>>
>>44624225
Are you lost friend? are you looking for /b/?
>>
>>44624014

Hmm... That's good enough for printing myself as a gameplay piece distinct from a main army I'd put full effort in.

3d Printers are further along than I thought. That's not a proper dreadnaught model, but it's certainly more than board game piece quality.

Print in a colourful plastic, don't paint.

Shame 3d Printers are way too expensive and autocad is time consuming and a skill I've not touched since high school.
>>
>>44624270
Nope. Just a regular quest-player that loves to laugh at manchildren like yourself.
>>
>>44624225

Dude, you're on /tg/, you don't get "cooler" just because you denounce some parts of it.

Besides I have been involved in the hobby for about 20+ years now, and enjoy it, why should I quit?
It might come as a surprise to a neckbeard like you, but on the side most of us don't live in moms basement and are fully capable of having family, job and friends. The hobby is there on the side, it doesn't make me who I am as a man. Its there because I enjoy it, simple as that.
>>
>>44624225
What are you even doing here? Whatever /tg/-related hobby you're involved in couldn't possibly be any more mature than playing wargames with plastic pieces. Has anyone here ever even gotten flak from anyone for warhammer? All my family, friends, and co-workers know I paint little plastic dudes and no one cares.
>>
>>44624469

>Ha! I'm a nerd who doesn't collect physical objects, thus making me superior!

Hey remember that one CS Lewis quote about how real maturity is outgrowing the childish need to present yourself as a srs business adult?
>>
>>44624469

>quest-player

So, you blame people who plays strategic games using miniatures, formed from the games of generals I might ad, to be "man children". While you sit around in circles telling stories to one another, trying to play WoW with pen and paper, and thinking you better than us?

Dear god you must be lost little boy.
>>
>>44624469
>regular quest-player
Not even that guy, but the problem is you.
>>
With an SLA printer, yes. People do that on Shapeways all the time.
>>
Welp we all got baited and stopped this dumb ass from getting himself vanned. Not sure we did the right thing, but there you go.
>>
>>44624427
OpenScad is fun to use, and you can build your own 3D printer for a steep discount. While most minis won't come out well, larger geometric figures like tanks can come out nicely.
>>
>>44622584
3D isn't nearly good and cheap enough to make this possible, you big goof.
>>
While outright bootlegging GW figures is definitely illegal, it's not hard to find some loopholes.

There are a number of storesthat sell shit like "futuristic battle nuns totally not Adeptas Sororitas we promise!" and get away with it because they're just different enough from actual GW figures.
>>
>>44624648
i dunno. was just tossing around ideas.
also >>44624646
and i already have access to a 3d printer. Dunno how good but its almost free to use so I don't mind throwing shit in to print.
>>
>>44624868
Protip: they'll look like shit.

We get a few "wow guys, 3D printing means an infinite amount of free models, right?", and it always ends with everyone trying to explain to OP that he's an idiot.

Serious but incredibly stupid, I think. I've seen worse, like the guy who wanted to make foliage and trees for wargame terrain with 3D printing.
>>
>>44625099
Not entirely true. With acetone smoothing you can make decent tanks and titans. Anything smaller will just look bad.

Hey! This might not be the right place to ask this, but I can't for the life of me find any remnants of the WHFantasy generals that used to plague /tg/, so I'll ask here anyway

Do you people know a good place to get recasts for Fantasy models?
I want to get more models but I no longer feel the urge to give GWS my money after AoS.
>>
>>44625488
r/Yoyhammer has a catalogue and contact info stickied for a popular recaster. I got a bunch of Bloodletters from them the other work, and they look great. The generals are as dead as the game itself. Even the Kings of War generals haven't stuck around as interest in fantasy line battles has plummeted.
