The first Blood Moon was the first night you cant remember. Just a vague sense of rushing wind against your hair, the whip and crack of branches and twigs beneath your feet and a hunger unlike any other. That damn hunger. Gnawing, insatiably in your belly, twisting your guts in ways you cant explain. Driving you to… Where? You woke up, your body the same as before. Skin dirty from a night spent sleeping in the dirt of the forest. You sit up, your back aching from the rock you slept on. Around you are dozens of people. Sleeping in the brush, you cant see most of them but you know they are there. They reek of adrenalin and sex. The sun’s pale light hikes higher in the sky, its light filtering through the trees, dancing across a green vale of brush and naked forms.

After a few minutes a few of the sleepers shake off their night, getting up in equal bewilderment and confusion. Many turn to you, looking to you or guidance. Youre not sure why but you know it has to be you. If only you could remember your name.

>With a dry, cottoned mouth you give your first order as their leader.

Lookin Spooky, first day's hunt and den building!

>Writing
>>
A few of the Hunters quickly sweep up sharp sticks and rally the others out into the woods. Their nudity apparently no cause for alarm, the hunger you feel in the pit of your stomach surely being felt by them.
The rest of the pack begin shoveling at the hard dirt with whatever they can find, the cold ground gives way slowly at first, several fights break out from the work crews. One particularly bad one ends with a young woman missing her eye and her assailant losing a fair portion of his fingers. These two are given separate crews and time to recover but do not stop giving off aggressive smells and angry glances. After several hours the ground gives way enough for a small den to take form. Its still only big enough for 5-6 people but the close quarters may be cause for concern if your people are not fed.
>Structure unlocked - Small Den
The night starts to fall and your hunters return, many look downtrodden and defeated. Only a few carry kills, a couple scrawny hare here, a pheasant there. One particularly beaming hunter hefts a young elk over his thick shoulders.
>Food gained 3 Turns

Despite night falling you cant avoid noticing how quickly the meat is being eaten. Another round of hunters is gathered and sent out. The big hunter from before takes lead, taking a small group with him into the cold forest.
The moon hangs high and pale overhead. The sight of it makes your heart hurt, like its trying to beat itself out of your chest. You move beneath the cover of a tall pine, its sticky sap clinging to your back. After a few minutes you drift off to sleep, responsibility is so tiring. When you wake up the glade is lit orange. A small fire burns at the opening of the den with the pack sitting close around it. They speak in hushed, excited tones about themselves and who they were before they woke up out here. None seem to remember where they are or how they got here. The One-Eyed woman takes her turn talking just as the fire falls over and burns out. With a huff she raises her hands and after a moment of concentration the wood sparks to life again, much to the excitement of her packmates. She slumps down, looking exhausted.
The hunters return. The night hunt seems to have gone well with several of the hunters sporting small elk and hare. The Big one once again gleams with pride, a black bear slung lazily over his back. Rather than turn it over to the others he walks up to you and slumps it to your feet. He is missing a hand.
>Food 8

“A gift, from Horl to you.” He stands un-phased by his missing hand, waiting for your response.

“Give the beast to the others, you and I will eat as they do.” Your voice comes out so rough, you must have slept soundly. Your back is covered in pine sap.
Horl nods, smiling still and scooping up the bear with his remaining hand and dragging its limp body to the pack who howl and cheer in excitement. A few short words and plenty of gloating later and he returns with a quartet of hares and the bear’s heart. When he notices you looking at his haul he shrugs “They wouldn’t let me leave with anything less, Tisha says she will keep the skin for me too which is fine, but I thought you should have it.” He sits down on his legs, and flicks three of the hare at you.
“Your hand. What happened?” You ask, trying to be polite but the smell of raw flesh pushes you over the limit and you start to rip into the small body. Nothing is spared.
“Was that there bear. Was she who got the jump on me if youd believe it. Was all I could do to drive her back and while we were fightin’ she took off the damn thing. Let me tell ya I didn’t ev’n know it was gone til I went to pick her up. Bled like a stuck pig lemme tell ya!” He stop talking and cups the stump of his forearm. His face losing a bit of its former smile. “No matter. Ill still do what Im needed to. Whole or not.”
After your meal he gets up and slumps down in some soft brush to sleep. You cant agree more with the sentiment, leaning back into the sticky embrace of the pine tree.
>>
>>44595886

Morning comes far too early, the pale light bathes everything and the cold is starting to creep into your bare feet. You stomp feeling back into your toes and take a slow walk around the sleeping forms of your pack. You feel an itch at the base of your neck and whip around. Movement? You strain your ears but cant make out anything. Youre sure you saw it, a glimpse of blonde hair and pale skin betwixt the trees. When you go and search for yourself all you find is the quickly fading scent of turned earth and freshly picked flowers.

The pack wakes.

A few of your pack are sent to dig out the den, deeper, warmer and more accommodating for the pack. A few of the pack take special care to ensure that Grissa and her maimed foe are kept separate, while she digs he is left to patrol the grounds with the others.

Meanwhile you sit beside a few of the others working on fastening stones to the wood to make more functional tools. The work is slow, the local materials are just too frail. One gets too frustrated and ends up casting his materials to the ground and storming out into the woods. A few others follow him and bring him back not too long after, his eyes red and his cheeks stained with tears.

Several packmates are still able to go about their duties.

Horl is called again to gather a scouting party to check out the local area to the east. He is followed by a group of whooping men and women, eager to find out more of their new home.
While they are gone Grissa comes to you during her off-shift “May I speak to you? Im worried about…” She takes a moment and looks over her shoulder with her good eye “About the one who took my eye. “I can understand your worry, and I will talk to him.” At first she looks like she will object but she stops herself, nods and gets up and back to her duty.
Sitting up your knees crack a little and you stretch wide, yawning fresh, cold air into your lungs before you set off to find the other troublemaker.
You find him talking with a few other patrolmen, they laugh at something and clap one another on the back before turning their own ways. When he sees you he pauses and turns towards you. The wounded hand is healing well enough without a bandage. A hard, black scab covers the flesh and the bone seems to have been gnawed smooth. “Hail! What do I have the pleasure of seeing you up and about for?” His smile is wide, almost mockingly wide. His overdone bow does little to hide the laughing tone in his voice. A few patrolmen stop and turn to watch you two.

Your hand flies up faster than youd expected. Cracking your clenched fist into the bowing fool’s jaw with enough force to send him head over heels. Youre not sure but you might have felt something break. His body falls limp into the brush behind him and you can hear several of the patrolmen gasp in surprise, a few start to walk towards you but stop a half-step later. A scent fills the air unlike anything you’ve smelled for.

Rage.

You take a step back and bring your hands up just in time. A brown hulking form explodes from beneath the brush, taking you in the chest. Your arms strain to keep a set of snapping jaws from your face. The breath stinks of rotten meat and blood flows thick and heavy from a few missing teeth. Despite its appearance its clearly the fool from before, its eyes are the same bright shade of green.

You tuck your legs between you two and kick him off as hard as you can, sending him sprawling in the brush long enough for you to half right yourself before his claws rake across your shoulder. Your blood-scent fills the air, your muscle tingles and youre faintly aware of the patrolmen coming towards you. With a shout you twist and grab the slavering beast by the throat, its fangs flash down and cut deep into your arm. Your knee comes up from below its hips and drives violently unto its ribs, something pops and the beast deflates somewhat. Your grip on its throat tightens while its struggles weaken somewhat. Another knee to its guts and its arms go slack, letting your right fly straight into its head.

He falls like a bag of sand. The patrolmen gather around you, unsure what to do.

“Watch closely boys. This is how you put down a mad dog.” You can smell their fear and concern despite none of them voicing it. None of their eyes leave you when you walk up to the shallow breathing body. You can see your blood on its claws and still slick on its fangs despite the bleeding having already slowed to a drip from your body. You turn your head, locking eyes with everyone present and raise your foot over the beast’s neck.

It crunches like a hare’s back.

Its breathing stops and its body goes completely slack. One of your patrolmen turns and vomits into the brush but doesn’t look away. “Dig his grave deep. We don’t want anyone finding up by our dead.” You turn and walk back to the pine tree. Your body aches, just a little further and you know youd have felt something amazing. Once your patrolmen are out of sight you feel an itch at the base of your neck and turn, your body still pumping with adrenaline. There it was again, pale hair, fair skin and a pair of bright blue eyes. Just beyond those trees. You rush over to it and find nothing. Just the faint scent from before.

The Scouts return from the east! (Cont)
>>
>>44597417

Horl returns with much fanfare. His scouts are covered in crude, bright blue paint. They tell the pack of a wide, slow river and small but deep lake. They show off their paint and even plant a few palm-prints on their brothers and sisters who request them. Horl takes his leave from the crowd and turns towards you, a more serious look on his face.

“I need a moment.” He says, all the laughter gone from him. “Something is out there, stalking us. I don’t think anyone else has noticed and if they have they havnt said anything. We aren’t alone out here and I don’t know if we are in danger but, I fear for the worst.” He takes a step back and gives you a hard look, his eyes firm and solid. A clap across the back from a young woman shakes the cold expression from him when he turns to her with a bright smile. She leads him away by the hand and he turns to you, raising his stump in the air in a mock shrug before picking up the small woman and lugging her across his shoulder. The pair vanish into the woods.

The night is closing in.

You bed down for the night after your meal of cold meat. Horl returned just in time to get his share and spent the evening sitting beside the fire telling stories and boisterously singing. Your pine tree nest wraps its long needles around you and you close your eyes. There is still so much to take in, so much you don’t know. Where are you? What have you become? You know for sure you’ve never seen a man become a beast before but you somehow knew just how to deal with it. Your pack knew to look for you and you knew to take the helm but, none of you know how you got here. Not to mention, what the hell is your NAME!? Questions for tomorrow. You lazily open your eyes to take a look down at your pack.

They are all listening to another packmate, probably talking about what he did before he came here. Your eye catches Grissa looking up at you, you forgot to tell her what happened in the woods. Maybe she already knows? Doesn’t matter. You look around the darkened woods of your new home, relaxing against the sappy bark of your tree. Your breath catches; a pair of bright blue eyes stares at you from the far side of your camp. Surely close enough for your pack to smell it. You struggle to get up but sleep has laid its claws deep into you leaving you only to watch the unblinking gaze drill into you til everything goes black.

Goodnight everyone! Hope you liked the Civ!
