Because sometimes I don't want to only go fast. Sometimes I want to drop some sexy robed terminator knights on them as well. Also Ravenwing Black Knights and Interromancy are far cooler than anything in the SM codex.
As for Tau, I really like the suits. I like dropping down and unloading fusion and plasma. I like bouncing around in my enemy's deployment zone and charging my Fusion Blade commander into an enemy unit. I even enjoy knowing that charging him in there was a bad idea, but god damn Farsight's model has a sword and I'm gonna use it.

any plastic safe degreaser should work. Simple Green is the common reply, but I find it doesn't get into crevices very well. Any exposed areas will have the paint sheeting off, and it'll definitely soften any in the cracks. A stiff toothbrush should get most of it. I remember somebody posting a better option in a w.i.p. thread but didn't save the name.
If those rocks are held on with regular white glue, it should break down when submerged for a day or two.

It's cheaper than a lot of hobbies.
Modelling is a huge part of the hobby. If you enjoy art projects or military models (which I do), then Citadel models are exquisite, easy to work with and customize, and easy to acquire.
They are cheaper than model railroads, but MSRP is pretty steep. I get everything from secondhand for bits and projects, and then to support my FLGS I buy my hobby supplies and books, scenery, and anything that is close in cost from them. I also bring in new players, buy refreshments and beers, and try to support the place I play.
It's fun. My friends and I often talk about ideas for new units we want to build, army ideas, bounce lists off each other. I play about once a week for 4-5 hours; I try to paint or hobby about the same. I spend another 5 hours talking/researching about the hobby.
15 hours a week of entertainment goes a long way.

Planning out a CSM army, getting back into the game after a long time away.
Alpha Legion: Mechanical "hydra" themed, w/ Dark Mechanicum. Daemon Engines, mark of Slaanesh ("Perfection of the machine", daemonettes riding engines), Havocs, Noise Marines with mechanized embellishments, using Skitarii for Cultist units. Chosen squad of Alpha Legion veterans is in Heresy-era mk. 4/5 armor (as pictured). No visible faces, idea being the actual people under the gear is totally interchangeable. Warpsmith HQ is actually a heavily-converted Magos. Trying to see if an old Daemonette head can be worked onto it to give them impression of a cyber-medusa-type character. They're in it to seize resources and work their agenda.
World Eaters: Raptors, Helbrutes, Berserkers. Most heavily mutated, feral aspect, bared faces. Emphasis on options with heavy randomized element, reflecting uncontrollable nature of Khornate warriors. HQ is Kharn, because of course he is. They're in it for mayhem and carnage.
Fallen Angels: Bikers, Terminators, Plague Marines, Nurgle themes. Heavy on the "faded glory" idea, with knightly trappings gone to decay. HQ is Chaos Lord inspired by Artorias from Dark Souls -- Mark of Nurgle, leaking tarry corruption from armor, Murder Sword. They're in it because they retain a shred of desire to die honorably, despite being basically unable to die permanently.
I love doing conversions. I'm not sure how competitive this army will be, but I have more fun being artistic than min/maxing.

Bloodthirster/DP, because Khornate daemons just look metal as hell. I'm tempted to get the Starter Khorne box just to have a few bloodcrushers because red armoured daemonbulls just look awesome.
