Am I the only one that likes to think that XCOM is some sort of pseudo prequel to Warhammer 40k?

Like, Humanity fights off the Alien invaders, imbuing them with a strong sense of xenophobia. The XCOM Marines become prototype Space Marines

The Emperor is the Commander

It all makes since.
>>

I have the same mentality about the DOOM games.
>>
>>44524159
The big miss for your theory is that X-COM has no expansion of humanity into the stars before the aliens turn up.
>>
>>44524275
I can get behind this.

It does

XCOM
DOOM
Warhammer

I'm sure you could fill out the pseudo time line with all sorts of shit.

Are there any XCOM RPG books/cool board games?

>>44524159
No, the big miss is that XCOM takes place 38,000 years before 40k. That's about 6.5 times the length of recorded human history. It couldn't be a prequel because that's like saying Conan is a prequel to Alien.
>>
>>44524159
Wouldn't be surprised when someone on Terra manages to uncover XCOM's base after 39000 years and see what they did.

>>44524336
You could use the 40K RPGs to homebrew a XCOM Tabletop.
>>
Quit inserting your cancerous setting into things that are actually good.
>>
>>44524159
Doesn't actually work too well with the established DAoT/Age of Strife narrative, but it's a pretty good crossover of narratives to create a timeline.
>>
>>44524305
Well, pretending that XCOM 2 isn't canon in pseudo time line (or maybe not. XCOM 2 being canon would fuel the Xenophobia)
I'd imagine that the expansion into the stars happens after they kick the xenos off Earth

>>44524336
I know there is an XCOM board game, and that a book was released bridging the gap between XCOM 1 and 2.
>>
>>44524360

Okay then what would the enemies of XCOM be regarded as in 40K? Obviously they're filthy xenos to be purged, but they would clearly be a minor threat/faction compared to some of the other players the Inquisition regularly deals with.
>>
>>44524632
They're basically equivalent to the Tau Empire with a focus on psykers instead of mecha.
>>
>>44524632
Don't know much about XCOM, but as for DOOM the enemies should go without saying.
>>
>>44524632
the enemies in XCOM would have long since have been exterminated by the time Warhammer came into play.
Humanity reverse engineers Xeno technology, warps to their home planet(s) and enacts a purge of unimaginable cruelty and destruction.

The XCOM Xenos fade to memory as humanity encounters more horrors among the stars.
>>
>>44524159
So, you're just gonna ignore the fact that, at the time the Emperor manifested, 40K Earth was a post-apocalyptic hellhole dominated by roving bands of techno-barbarians, with the Emperor only gaining control because he was the biggest, toughest, meanest motherfucker on the planet?
>>

enemy unknown had 2 endings, good one and bad one, the creators state that bad one is canon so it's not a alternative timeline

There is a XCOM homebrew for GURPs.

https://sites.google.com/site/thackbarth/gurps-x-com

I had a full PDF somewhere, but I can't seem to locate it. :C
>>

That mech looks very Tau
>>
>>44525450
That was a great video.

I hope they still have MELD in XCOM 2
>>
>>44524159
Even though this is retarded, from a gaming perspective I've always felt that the XCom formula would be perfect for a 40k game.

Like, you're playing as the Deathwatch on a fringe Imperial world, and the Tau are knocking. Reinforcements aren't available, and exterminatus is to be considered the weapon of last resort - so you and your platoon of ultra badasses have to bop around the world killing strategic targets. Instead of getting funding through the national powers, you have to ensure the loyalty of the Planetary Defense Force regiments against the Tau's ongoing propaganda campaigns. Instead of researching shit, you'd find more resources on the planet (after fighting the Tau/Kroot/Vespids/Traitors/Whatever Else for it) - find a suit of Dreadnaught armor and your next fallen squad member becomes war incarnate (or, for bonus grimdark, someone gets volunteered for it). Recruitment isn't available, so every loss would have major ramifications for the rest of the campaign.
>>
>>44525473
Probably not, seeing as how MELD and the Enemy Within expansion isn't canon. But I hope there will be an option to get badass Mec Warriors in 2.
>>

It was a homebrew for Savage Worlds, not GURPs.
>>
>>44525465

Apart from all the things that make Tau mechs look distinctive not being present.

In every way it looks more like it's from Heavy Gear than 40k. Also it's a cyborg.

>>44525666
Depends on the edition, Satan. Original 40k dreadnoughts, yes. Later interpretations, depends on if orks or not.
>>
>>44525498
The closest I can think of is Chaos Gate.
You get an understrength Ultrasmurf company and go through a campaign of fighting against Chaos.
The combat system is a clone of the original Xcom and you can't replace losses.
You also get laurels and medals and other kinds of fun things.

I can't wait for the game, as making it Moddable on the Steam Workshop is going to make the experience amazing. All of the ideas in this tread could be realized if people are willing to put the time and effort into modding Xcom 2. And I can't wait to try some of those out. And hopefully you will too.
>>
>>44524404
>pretending that XCOM 2 isn't canon
So you mean they only fit together...if you ignore how they blatantly don't fit together?

So now it's not a question of whether or not you're retarded, but how retarded are you, exactly.
>>
>>44525856
Should be up on Piratebay.
I don't even know if anyone sells it out there.
There was also an annoying bug that kept crashing the game - the sound effect for chaos cultist plasma pistols were broken and crash the game, so you must kill them before they get the chance to shoot.

But it's a pretty fun game, with lots of points for style, made back when Ultramarines were cool.

Hell, XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within, when you look at the mechanics, would make an awesome d100-based squad-based tabletop game. The cover system is line of sight based and fairly simple to figure out, the bonuses and penalties are fairly simple to remember, hell, the only thing that would need any kind of work is weapon damage, and when I sat down and looked at the wiki to jot down the game's mechanics, I figured out a sort of workaround, where weapons have base damage, and for every degree of success, it adds one to that.

It seems like it would be pretty easy to use.
