How important are physical requirements for a soldier in a cyberpunk setting? If they were at all important?

It depends on how much augmentation or drone operation is part of military practice.

An armed forces which uses cybernetic or biological augmentation might offer a perfect, superhuman body as a benefit of enlistment, with the downside of pledging yourself to military service until you pay off the cost of your body.

On the other hand, if a military uses remote operated drones, you could have your 'soldiers' be fatarses sitting in VR suites and they'd still be combat effective.

I would say very important, the condition of the human form is directly related to how much augmentation it can handle, how much data it can process, the speed at which it does.

The fitter, stronger, faster and more intelligence they have the better able they are to adapt to body modification, implants and all sorts of tech-sorcery.

This is the thing that always bothers me. Why would the military offer to give you a weaponized body and then let you keep it after your service is done?

Then again the way GiTS does it makes sense, you're given a civilian grade cyber body and any pertinent memories or information about what you do or know is wiped.

Depends on when the conversion to a cybernetic/robot body happens. If it happens when they they join up, you'll actually want somebody who was fit before hand because they'll have the right state of mind to use their augmentation to or near their full potential, as opposed to a fat ass who was sitting around doing nothing all day who won't even be a match for the soldiers who was for before their conversion.

Either that or clone you flesh replacements afterwards.

Soldiers won't have augmentations unless they're special forces.
It's much easier to give regular grunts gear they can pick up and put down, hand to the next guy, etc. There's not much training cost to recoup with life-saving augments when you have an entire underclass hoping for a better life and willing to get IED'd for one.
Corporate combat forces need to be essentially like special forces, and thus have all the best gear and other means of forcing dependance. Those cognitive enhancement upgrades for faster reflexes probably tap into the subconscious fears and prejudices of the subject in order to facilitate faster IFF. Literally demonizing the enemy, and canonizing their superiors.

For jobs where the applicant is
expected to do important things with their meat bodies? Still important.

For jobs that any fat nerd with the right education can do? Not so much.

Depends on the setting.

First of all, cybernetics are going to be an added expense that you should only put in your soldier when needed. It's complicated stuff, it requires surgery and downtime, then adjustment and re-learning how to work your own damn body.

Next, your health would impact how much your body can handle re: implants and how well you recover from the surgery.
