In my opinion as forever GM of star wars

A ship is always the best option - it allows the maximum amount of freedom to the player characters, while providing a home atmosphere, and represents multiple ways the players and their characters can use their skills - it also represents an evolving tool, and if done right, becomes a party member in its own right.

Just don't ever let players name things.

It has a secondary benefit of proving a plot point for GM's, and a form of economy control. It can also help players generate money assuming you have something that can haul cargo.

One of the most vital things I give my players starting out is a legit hauling license. It requires monthly dues be paid, but it allows them to not be fucked over by customs and laws - plus, hauling legit cargo is a good way to make money on the side - even if you have a party of rebels or jedi

You can work some pretty solid lists out with just those, the biggest thing to worry about would probably be loading up too many points on the firespray.

The Z-95's will probably carry missile for swarm busting, going to try a few things with the Y-wing to see what works best.

Not him, but it looks like it's barely possible. 4 Success and 2 Advantage/1 Triumph (for Linked) and blanks on the opposing dice. It'd be a hell of a lucky/unlucky roll. GM probably should've held his punches and just let the one hit slide go and impose setbacks with the rest or something.

Hi guys, we are going to start a new campain in Star Wars Saga Edition, KOTOR era. I played only two sessions few years ago, so i don t' know anything. I want to build a Han Solo like character, but i want him as a mon calamari. Can you advice me for some feats or talents?

Looks like a good option.

That, a base Z-95 and another with missiles for TIE swarms gives 11 free points to work with on the Firespray.

Abrams isn't directing the next two movies though. Even then Disney wouldn't allow that.

Well, you could always just copy the book's build for Han Solo, but that might not work well. You also could take feats based on the Prestige Class you want to go into.

What capital ships would the Black Sun have access to?

I know they have basically infinite money, but what can that get them? Have they canonically possessed a Dreadnought, Mon Calamari cruiser, Victory Star Destroyer, anything big?

>>
>>44461771
SAGA is odd in that you are given the option of focusing on one weapon and stacking it up with extras like rapid fire, etc., or dual wield and offset dual wielding penalties by taking more dual wielding feats. Both are feat heavy, but after 3 feats dual wielding goes from a -5 to 0 penalty while things like rapid fire will still cost you -2. If you're not going to be the primary ground combatant, you might not even need to worry about it, just upgrade your pistol for a flat fee with an outlaw tech or boost initiative and go for some sneak attack feats.

Depending on how much Solo you want to go, a dip into Noble for its connections talents might be good to make it easier to get hands on illegal equipment and spice running.

This anon >>44461757 is right in that SAGA is build heavy, so if you do have a prestige class in mind, like Ace Pilot, Privateer, Gunslinger, etc., you should keep in mind their requirements. Look at those and see if you want to take Han Ackbar in any of those directions-SAGA encourages multiclassing, and prestige classes do get better defensive bonuses and force points/level.

Black Sun aren't really a Capital Ship kind of organization. They mostly make due with small, fast freighters and maybe a pimped out blockade runner or two to shift illegal cargo.

They work from the shadows and would rather bribe, assassinate or blackmail their enemies than get caught in a ship-to-ship slugging match

So I've painstakingly undercoated these damn TIE squadron TIEs for Armada, are there any variant colour schemes at all or is it really just the Interceptors that get some nice colours? I was hoping to at least paint up Howlrunner's ship and squadron differently but it seems that even she flew just a basic-ass Fighter, not even any extra red stripes or anything for her.
>>
>>44460952
Actually, basic ass TIE Fighters can do some decent shit with high-speed maneuvers such as, I think it's called, Take the Advantage? I dealt a crippling shot to my party's not-Millenium Falcon using that. However, the party should have had someone with high Agi in the gunner seat taking the Fighter out before it could do anything like that.

Running a tournament with some houserule buffs to the M3-A Scyk. Namely:

>New Title: Mandal Motors Interceptor - 0pts
>M3-A Interceptor only.
>When performing a barrel roll you may use the speed 1 Left Bank or speed 1 Right Bank template instead of the speed 1 straight template.
>When you reveal a turn manoeuvre, you may instead perform a Talon Roll of the same direction and speed. Treat the manoeuvre as a red manoeuvre.

>Revised Title: “Heavy Scyk” Interceptor - 2pts
>M3-A Interceptor only.
>Your upgrade bar gains the Cannon, Torpedo OR Missile upgrade icon.
>Increase your hull value by 1.

Bearing those buffs in mind, I'm going to try running some Scyk based lists. Note that all the M3-As that don't have a title are actually using the above Mandal Motors Interceptor title.

That feels like the "best" version of your three TIE aces list you keep trying
>>
>>44462968
It's still weak though. Such a barebones Whisper will be targeted down, and then you've only got two other low hull value ships flying around. If you're taking either a Phantom or Interceptor (no need to take both, they fulfill the same role of arc-dodgan and hitting back with some nice attack dice) then you'll want some kind of beefy distraction on the other side of your deployment zone, such as a swarm or Firespray.
>>
>>44460349
BB-8 on a low PS T-65 is pretty "meh". That free barrel roll isn't going to do much for you when most non-generic ships will be activating afterwards.

And B-Wings don't really need Mangler Cannons unless they're name is Ten Numb. If you go for a cannon, make it a utility (speciically the Ion), or give them the firepower of the HLC.

Otherwise, if it's for shits and grins, it will be fine. The color-coded "XABY-build" (Zabby) is a lot of fun to fly.

WEG Star Wars was the first RPG I've played, in 1989. Besides the official sourcebooks I liked the stuff that from time to time appeared in the Challenge magazine. The unofficial H-Wing from Challenge 35 became a popular ship in our group. It's a heavy fighter, a good choice for escort missions. The H-Wing has a crew of 3: pilot and two gunners. Three players manned the fighter while other two players served as pilot/co-pilot in a YT cargo ship.
I still like this ship so maybe I introduce it as a prototype in an AoR campaign

Scum Firesprays are amazing, and far better than their Imperial counter-parts.

Scum Boba basically has built/in rerolls, and does well when thrown into the thick of things. He doesn't need the K4 Droid, but he does love Glittercrack.

Kath Scarlet is a fucking beast, and has earned the nickname "Dat Ass Kath" in my LGS. Give her a K4, and have her kite the opponent around whenever you can. We've seen some really sick combos where she's paired with Palob and given Opportunist, resulting in 6-dice out the back arc, and even once vaporized an unsuspecting Soontir Fel that got caught staring.

Emon Azameen is probably the undisputed troll-bomber of the game. Either the Andrasta title and 3 different bombs, or the Slave-1 for Extra Munitions. Load him up with (only) bombs, and maybe give him Bombadier. You can throw Connor Nets, or Prox mines in people's face all day. He's a lot of fun to fly, but not as much of a competitive choice. His PS is in the goldilocks zone for a bomber, though...

Mandalorian Mercs are your generic, and they're alright. You get PS 5 and an EPT for a base of 35pts. Take these if you don't need a pilot ability, and don't care about higher PS skills, but generally it's best to go for the named.

Gold Squadron Pilot (26)
Y-Wing (18), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), Twin Laser Turret (6), R3-A2 (2)

It's solid. I wouldn't change much. If you get your combo off with Latts (easy to do), then Talonbane will mop thr floor with almost anything. I prefer to keep Latts very bare-bones with just a weapons engineer, but that's just because the Barn is pretty fragile and goes down quick to focused fire.

I still like the Epsilon + Howlrunner list.

The three Int list(s) are pretty standard, and fit nicely in 100pts. Ignore the haters, because it's hated for a reason if you fly it well. It is a total glass-cannon, however, and will crumble spectacularly if you're not careful.

Since it happens in the dice modifying step, I believe it would be in any order. So you could (unless FAQ says otherwise) use Ezra to turn an eyeball into a crit, and then spend the stress as a focus.

Personally I think Chopper or Hera will be the better copilots for Keyan. Hera because with a FCS and Stay On Target, you won't have to care about actions or how many Stress tokens you're carting around. Chopper as an option would just be for those situations where you end up unable to shoot, and this can't shed your stress.

I think Sabine and Nera Dantel will be good friends...

The new Pho Tie is pretty flexible, and can be made fairly swarmy or surprisingly lethal. The 6 different named pilots each have wildly different uses, from taking a stress to increase attack dice, to ungodly levels of barrel roll shenanigans, to PS 12 when unharme for dirt cheap, to completely shitting all over one specific ship with just a target lock. The FOs are pretty sleek, and a lot of fun to fly.

>>44463528
It's not a popular ship, and not widely viewed as a competitive one, but don't assume your meta is indicative of its value. Both of it's current aces are mean, but they do require a list built around utilizing them. Vessery innparticular, as you can't just slap him into a Tie swarm, or in with Interceptor aces, and that's why he doesn't get used as much. He does really well with Whisper or Echo if they have FCS, though.

And you will see a lot more Defenders once Veterans comes out. Tie/D title will turn it into the best jouster in the game, with the highest damage to point ratio. And the x7 title is going to make flying them a lot more fun, and give you an evade and point decrease just for going fast.

I think it looks a little too sleek and angular, a little too close to contemporary sci-fi. I don't know how to explain it best, but Star Wars ships usually have a certain measure of bulk, jank or multi-dimensional girth. This looks like the fuselage for a Star Wars ship missing its wings or engines or something.
>>
>>44463814
Most of the threads I've seen say it's overpriced if you want a generic low-PS version. But I've seen plenty of people make good use of them, and there has been several threads on FFG's forums about how under appreciated the are. Vessery in particular is a lot of fun to fly.

Bottom line if you run one, you run a named and build for it. But with the Veteran pack, all that's about to change. You'll be able to run a 28pt PS 1 generic that gets a free Evade just for taking a speed 3, 4, or 5 maneuver!

I have always felt that KoToR1 is much more of a Star Wars game than KoToR2 to it. Everyone is so fast to say "but m-muh writing and m-muh characters and m-muh grey morality"

Fuck that. I have a fucking blast playing KoToR1, it feels like a pulp adventure story put to game form. The characters are fun and memorable, the locations are vibrant and different from each other, the story was great in its simplicity and reliability and it's just all around a wonderful, fun experience.

KoToR2 is just Avellone's frustation with the setting (and his overcompensation for being a beta) written out through his OC.

>Avellone's frustration with the setting

I actually like the deconstruction elements, since it actually looks at what all these wars do to the people of the Galaxy. But what I really like is the tone of the game. Everything is shadowy and mysterious, and what happened in the previous game is almost a legend despite happening only a few years previously. Also something everyone seems to forget is that just because there are people like Kreia saying certain things doesn't mean they are right. As the light side Exile (the old canon option) you basically accept that things don't always go right, but you refuse to let that compromise your ideals of compassion, selflessness, and courage in the face of evil. That's what being a Jedi is all about, and as the main character it's your choice whether to embrace that or not.

The thing is, Star Wars as a setting doesn't fucking hold up under ~grey morality~ and ~moral ambiguity,~ especially not the media everyone is familiar with (movies). Star Wars is a setting that features deliberate, canon, black-and-white space magic. Sith don't maybe have a point in the Star Wars universe - they're evil, full stop, with no "wiggle room." That's why they're depicted as cartoonishly evil in the movies. Star Wars as a franchise is aimed at older kids and young teens. It's sci-fi YA that happens to have really cool practical effects for its time, and hella cool starships.

The thing is, kids who liked the YA shit that Star Wars is, narratively, grew up. And when they did they tried introducing stuff to the setting that it can't really support (Grey Jedi, moral ambiguity, philosophical debates about the merit of emotional detachment as it appears in the Jedi Order, etc.) because they'd been to ~college~ and read ~Nietzsche~ and shit.

KotOR 1 captures what it is to be a Star Wars story, even if Revan is both a good and bad guy, because he isn't those things at the same time. He's a good guy, then stops being a good guy to be a bad guy, and then does whatever you choose to do in KotOR - which, by the way, features choices that are basically pure-"good" or pure-"evil," like most of BioWare's terrible games.

KotOR 2 feels like bad Star Wars fanfiction and is so disgustingly overrated it sets off my sperging.
>>
>>44464261
Armada is pretty good. Imperials have a lot more straight-up firepower, while the rebels tend to be more stand-offfish, with better broadsides on their bigger ships. It's still quite new, and has only just received it's first wave.

>>44464343
Top four however did have a Palpmobile with Vader and Baron Fel. The reason it didn't get farther was because it went up against Heaver, who got a super-lucky long-range shot on Vader with his TLT Stresshog. That shut down Vader in one of the opening moves, and allowed Paul to take him out the following turn. Baron is good, and gave Poe a solid fight, but it was an uphill battle the rest of the game.

Brobots also did well, but went up against the runner up, Nathan. Nathan's mvp ship was a 15pt blocker A-Wing, and near-telepathic knowledge of where that damned thing needed to be.

Good to know, just trying to collect as much info as possible before jumping in. Kinda new to this and have been skeptical since being convinced to invest into another tabletop top that was horribly unbalanced despite being reassured it would be. I play both, they are really drastically different. Upgrades play a much bigger role, no ship can get away with being vanilla. The point of the game is damage mitigation, not out right avoiding all damage. You have to plan several turns in advance and fly really deliberately. Missions are built into the rules. Lastly, positioning matters a lot.
>>
>>44464551
Consider the fact Grey Jedi generally refers to Jedi who don't get along with the rest of the Order. Qui-Gon was considered a Grey Jedi by many for his constant disagreements with the Council.

When you get down to it, it's not even Black and White Morality. The Force has a lot of ways of interpretation, but the Dark Side is a constant.

Grey Jedi at this point is pretty much shorthand for "Jedi I don't like." Qui-gon is arguably a Grey Jedi and is generally considered a cool character and definitely a good guy. That's my point, though. My familiarity with Star Wars is chiefly in video games, miniatures, a few roleplaying tabletops, and (of course) the movies. I'm a diehard fan of the Star Wars cinematic universe. Why I bring this up: "Grey Jedi" means different things to different people, apparently. Qui-Gon telling the council to chew on his balls while he trained Anakin anyway is "grey" in the sense that he's flouting a direct imperative, but Qui-Gon is never depicted as morally ambiguous because he isn't actually morally ambiguous. He's a good guy in the narrative. Nowhere in Episode I does the movie ever try to entertain the idea that Qui-Gon is more "neutral" than "good."

But in Legends/EU material and (god help me) the old SWTOR RP community, people played "grey" Jedi all the time - Jedi who could tap into "both sides" of the Force, or who had super-nuanced philosophical views for Star Wars characters that have much more in common with present-day Earth than a galaxy far, far away. Then they'd produce all of these dumb horseshit precedents of ~morally ambiguous Jedi/Sith~ and you bet your ass Kreia/Traya was brought up every single time.

I fucking love Star Wars, man. But those kinds of characters just don't work in this setting. They're pulp stories. Even the most ~roguish~ of our heroes is a guy whose worst on-screen act is to shoot a guy who was already going to try to kill him. This isn't Sin City.

She's just straight up fucking evil. Star Wars doesn't have room in its morality for ethical quandaries - there is always a Right Thing To Do, and that's just the way it is.

It's not even that within the narrative of KOTOR 2 she's supposed to be morally ambiguous, it's that even WITHIN that attempt to paint her sympathetically, SHE IS STILL FUCKING EVIL.

-She mindfucks everyone she comes across
-She resurrects not one but TWO villains just so they can continue fucking with the party (one in full view of the party, gotta love that camera angle that shows everyone fifty feet away and facing her while she does it0
-She blows up droids because ????
-She tricks the player into gathering three remaining Jedi Masters just so she can kill them
-She is literally a fucking Sith Lord
-She tries to trick the player with that super Force bond shit so that they won't drop her like a hot rock
-She talks like Baby's First Book on Nietzsche (not that Nietzsche is evil, it's that people who READ Nietzsche tend to come away with the wrong idea)

That makes literally no sense, but whatever. I've come to terms with our new Disney overlords making fanfiction.
>>
>>44465008
the way things move and interact are very different
>>
>>44464898
That's my whole point though: the journey of a good character in the game is seeing her present her argument about light and dark and rejecting it because it's not the Right Thing to Do. All her manipulation are evil regardless of how she justifies them in her head, and anyone who thinks her path is the true way of the Force is too trapped in their philosophy 101 class to see her darkness. It's easy to be good in KOTOR 1 because the line is obvious; in KOTOR 2 the line is blurrier but that doesn't mean that good and evil don't exist.
>>
>>44464928
Kylo isn't a confluence of anything as depicted in Episode VII, though. He's the same as every other Jedi/Sith that has swapped sides. There is a Good Guy version of the character and a Bad Guy version of the character and ne'er the two shall meet. Good Guys may angst and Bad Guys may briefly flag in their convictions, but you can't really be both at the same time. Anakin is a Good Guy who becomes a Bad Guy who then re-becomes a Good Guy. Luke is a Good Guy who is briefly tempted by the Bad Guy side, but chooses to remain a Good Guy. Kylo Ren is a Bad Guy who is briefly tempted by the Good Guy side, but chooses to remain a Bad Guy.

This isn't very hard to figure out. Light/Dark Side basically functions like a switch you flip in a person. That's just Star Wars. Kylo has no "light" to contribute to this "confluence" - all he's done is kill his dad, a bunch of civilians, and some computer monitors. There's nothing Light Side about him.

>Movement dials
Nope, no movement dials. Command dials can issue a movement command which improves your maneuverability that turn and gives you the option to change speed, but it is just one of 4 commands you can pick. Another big thing about command dials is the bigger the ship, the more of them you have, and you have to stack them so a medium to big sized ship has to plan 3 turns in advance.
>shot tracking
Most ship battle games do shot tracking. The difference here is all 4 of your arcs can take a shot and depending on what side you're firing from, you have different firing values. Depending on which side of them you're shooting, they have different shields.
>completely dependant on dice rolls
Dice are another thing that's just a part of most minis games. You can't call that a similarity. There are however no defense dice in this game and a lot more ways to rig your own dice to be consistently what you want. I have a 6 ship list where each ship can guaranteed deal out at least 3 damage a turn.

Dice are also kinda cool as you have 3 different dice for 3 different kinds of attacks. Red dice are long range attacks. Lowest chance of hitting and pretty generic. Blue dice are medium and have a result on every side, but no big payoff like a double hit. Black dice which mostly only work super close range but have a lot of double hits.

>>44465143
Kylo is interesting to me because of how he fits into the metanarrative - if we accept the viewing that TFA is a soft-reboot/remake of ANH (which is pretty much fucking is), we wind up with:
- Rey as Luke
- Finn as Han
- Poe as Leia + Wedge
- Hux as Tarkin
- Kylo Ren as Vader
- Han as Obi-Wan
- Chewbacca as Chewbacca
- BB-8 as R2-D2
- Leia as The Old Guy From The Yavin Base

Given that reading, having Kylo Ren being a shitty villain is cool if Episode VIII can somehow follow up on it. Rey is better than 4chan thinks she is but is undoubtedly at least a mild Mary Sue. She just is. I want to see Episodes VIII and IX featuring her either becoming evil so the heroes have to overcome her, or having Kylo Ren undergo the usual hero's journey shit - episode VIII is just him believably training and honing his skills until he can kick Rey's ass in the climactic lightsaber duel.

When you set up a character as "strong" as Rey is and as "weak" as Kylo Ren is, the only interesting direction to take the plot in features the OP character from movie 1 either losing in movie 2 (to re-establish tension if you lost it or raise the stakes) or dying or becoming evil, or something.

If the entire New Trilogy is just Rey kicking everyone's ass, that will be a TREMENDOUS failure, but as of right now I'm giving Kylo Ren and TFA my tentative seal of approval.

Yeah, I know, I'm too much of a SW fanboy. It's true.

All the bad guys have reasons for why they do stuff, so in Kreia's view she's better than both Jedi and Sith but really she's just a sneaky bitch.

The Core Set is only three ships, and it's cheap enough to where people probably won't buy yours unless you undercut crazy-badly. Just get a Core Set (one of each, probably, or if you only want one get TFA) and play the X-Wing and the TIE pair to get a feel for the workhorse ships of a given faction.

Then, if you like having better starfighters at the expense of having more expensive pilots, you'll probably play Rebellion/Resistance. Soontir Fel players can suck my dick, Wedge and Poe are better than him.

If you like playing swarms of guys, try TIEs.

If you want to fuck with Large ships, get a Falcon and/or a Slave I.

If you want to insist that Guri is a good ace, buy Scum and Villainy and lose every game you play to Fat Han/Poe lists and TIE swarms.
>>
>>44465253
I though X-Wing was the cheap one? Because if it's gonna suck my wallet like a $5 dollar hooker I'll just wait for Forge World to get around to Battlefleet Gothic.

No, I meant two different types of the actual X-Wing ship, one of the old ones, and one of TFA type. Having an old X-Wing and a new one is kinda weird. I don't mind having some TIE fighters lying around.

And i meant get used to it because poe was made op to sell the new kits to promote the new movie, so he's in almost every rebel list.

There were two in world's final this year.
>>
>>44465342
TFA doesn't have enough ships/pilots to have only T-70s as your squad, but TFA has the best pilot in the game (Poe). If you are okay with mix-and-matching different generations of ships as long as they're not X-Wings, you could get two T-70s and a B-Wing, or a Y-Wing, or something.

If you want to play just X-Wings, you'll want the original Core Set and the X-Wing expansion at the very least. Luke, Wedge, and R2-D2 in your T-65s is a good starting point. Then get Rebel Aces.

If you want to fly Empire/First Order, get two TFA Core Sets and a TIE/fo expansion, then run a swarm with Omega Leader as your centerpiece.

Then just keep buying shit until you have a few armies that you enjoy a bunch.

Star Wars doesn't work that way. He'll either die a bad guy or be redeemed back to the Light (and probably die in the process).

I do think the new trilogy would be interesting even if we just got a "Kylo Ren is redeemed without dying" subplot, just so we can see in movie form a formerly Dark Side character dealing with the ramifications of their actions before they came around.

It essentially is really balanced, and player skill is still the deciding factor in match-ups. More to the point, Empire/First Order has a straight-up hard counter to Poe in Omega Leader, so if you're seeing Poe in too many lists at your local shop, build Omega Leader and kill him.

Everyone complaining about Poe didn't seem to be bitching when Soontir Fel was the unquestioned top-dog Ace, so everyone who's bitching now is probably a shitlord Empire main. Ignore them.

>>
>>44465594
Don't let dumb arguments dissuade your interest. X-Wing is a game that features dice, sure, but like any other such game that includes some elements of random chance (read: most games), the randomness is usually the least important factor.

Check: who's better? They usually win. If the two players are about the same skill, are there any obvious hard counters, like a stressbot to beat aces or an Omega Leader for Poe? The one with the counter usually wins. Are the players the same skill with no obvious counters? Okay, now luck begins to play the major factor in who wins. But the likelihood that both players have similar skill with the same squads is vanishingly slight, so don't worry about it.

Get cool ships and have fun. There's a "what to buy next" in the OP.

The Force will be with you. Always.

Well if everyone plays to the same random rules, it's balanced. It mitigates skill, but it's balanced. In any case, no one will deny there's no random chance in X-Wing. I won't at least. It's just that skill in piloting, metagame in upgrade and ship choice, and general knowledge of the game tends to play a bigger role in the game. There's a reason there is a reigning champ.
>>
>>44465433
It actually is prety balanced. The most extreme cases for "optimal builds" that you have to shell out money for, are Tie Advanced needing the Raider, Interceptors needing/wanting the Imp Aces and Starviper cards. Buttmads like to say the game's pay2win, or lopsided, but it's quite elegantly balanced with subtle adjustments here and there. And it's far, far cheaper than any ccg, or the vast majority of miniature games. And it's nowhere near as infuriating as collectible miniature games. The players who seem to be the most bent out of shape about it, tend to be the ones who take the game way too seriously, or refuse to play anything beyond one faction, and chalk their defeats up to Imperial "ace-wing", Rebel turret or shield regeneration bulshit, or Glittercrack/Brobots. All sides are a blast to play, and most ships have many different ways they can be built.

If anything, the current ships having the biggest issues right now, are:
-M3-A Scyk for scum (too expensive, too brittle)
-T-65 X-Wing (T-70 has a fix, but named pilots are good)
-Tie Advanced (needs $90 purchase of Raider for fix)
-E-Wing (expensive, only Corran Horn is good)
-Starviper (generics are bad, Guri and Xizor have a high learning curve, but are good).
-Tie Defender (high learning curve, fix coming soon)
-Tie Bomber (ordnance is slowly gettinf better, fix coming soon)

Just about every other ship is solid. The thing to remember is that this is a FFG system. They are loathe to redesign an existing kit, and are building the system similar to their living card games. Meaning no "editions", rules are free online, and all previously released products are still valid.

The falcon has internal gravity and inertia cancellers. Explain how he would be flung about. When do we see C-3po flying around in the back of the falcon as it dodges asteroids in empire?

Oh right, comedic effect that trumps every other scene in the series. Lando didn't have to brace himself when he went to the lift as leia was banking in to save luke from the underside of bespin.
