My paladin protests and requests custody of the criminal. Perhaps he can redeem her.
Mostly he does so because he thinks that's an ass-backwards system. Death for that offence? You need to do more than that to warrant it. And it should be quick, inflicting pain for no purpose than selfish pleasure is not the way of good or law.
