Personally I like to do this. K.I.S.S. always, no one wants to trudge through a page of text and we don't need to know all the wargear that comes standard. i like using battlescribe but it's too text heavy at times. and list the point value of the list, i don't wanna be doing some math looking at a list.

>Badscragg gawped at the carnage in the valley below. The Orks had been advancing on a miners’ town, expecting a few scared humies to stomp. As they drew near to the settlement, the greenskins had slowed at the sight of mounds of mangled corpses. Moments later, howling bloody murder, a horde of red-armoured Chaos boyz had come charging out to attack. The greenskins had roared their approval of a proper battle. However, it had soon become apparent that it was possible to have too much of a good thing. A snaggletoothed old Loota, Badscragg reckoned he’d more or less seen it all. But he’d never witnessed carnage like this. The Chaos boyz weren’t just killing the Orks, they were ripping them to bits. Ork throats were torn out by jagged fangs, the gushing blood drunk down in great draughts. Lashing tentacles tore off greenskin limbs and stuffed them into gaping maws. Skin was flayed, bones broken, and Ork guts ripped out by the fistful. Zog this, thought Badscragg, beginning to sidle slowly away from the fight. Even Orks had their limits, and this surpassed his. Suddenly, the Loota was plunged into shadow, choking on the reeking stink of sulphur. Badscragg looked up in sudden horror as something truly monstrous descended upon him, and then everything turned to blood and pain.

-From Codex "Daemonkin"

I dunno.

The fact that even Orks can get grossed out by extreme over the top violence implies there are some limits in the setting.

Teslas are great for shock value cos they can theoretically score 6 hits over the Gauss. The Gauss, however, does everything you've listed and will never surprise. So if you want a little bit of random burst, rock out the tesla. If you want more consistency in results, take the gauss.

Assault on Black Reach is a good buy, but the marine side is wasted. You should find one that's selling for less than it's original price and somehow split the marines.

A lot of it depends on how you wanna play the KDK. If you want max speed, run a CAD and slap in everything that moves 12" or more. The only exception would be your troop choice but you can either run min sized CSM for fire support or min sized blood letters to deepstrike. Note, however, that if you run the CAD your blood point generation will be shit. It will, at best, be a nice bonus you get every other round or so or, at worse, a non factor.

If you want to max out your blood point generation, you'll want the bloodhost. From here, there's a variety of ways to play it. Here's a couple of examples all based on what you want to do with your points.

1. Summon shitloads of stuff.
Run a min size slaughtercult, focus on shooting. Then tack on as many war engines as you have the points for. Your best bets are the forgefiends and maybe a maulerfiend or 2. you then sit back and pepper your opponent with shots until you get enough points to summon. Always give your slaughtercult the fnp bonus as a secondary.

2. Maxed out attacks.
You want a large slaughtercult for this. Lots of bloodletters, CSM, etc. You want fast auxiliaries so Gorepack definitely. The idea of this variant is to maximize the amount of dice you're throwing in the assault phase and you do so by always taking the +1 attack and depending on what you need, giving your slaughter cult fnp or rage + furious charge. A herald on a blood throne with the locus of wrath is also pretty nice here.

>>44403362
The gorepack bonuses are pretty meh. It however uses 2 really good units - bikes + flesh hounds - so people like it a lot and consider the bonus rules a nice thing that comes up every now and again. So yea, it's pretty good.

Hey 40k general!

I got a Hive Tyrant for christmas and kitted him out with wings and 2xtwin devourers (Using the fleshborer hive 'guns' from the tervigon I also got)

He's gonna be painted to be part of the rest of my 'Hive fleet Golgotha' and is a hell-of-a-lot bigger than my old 2nd edition hive tyrant.

What suitably killy name should I give this bad boy to strike terror in the hearts of my meals?

Lootas are one of our best units. Mek Gunz, Tankbustas and Biker Boyz round out the rest of our really good stuff. Avoid actually buying the Mek Gun kit unless you want to take out a second mortgage to pay for a single unit. Mek Gunz can be fairly easily kitbashed from junk and other kits, and are a great project for a new Mek to cut his teeth on. Converting is one of the great joys of Orks.

Get an idea in your head for what you want to play and go from there. Speedy? Choppy? Shooty? Horde? Elites? Vehicles? Walkers? Orks excel at spamming one type of thing that hopefully the enemy didn't bring enough of the counter for. Mix and match Ork lists sadly don't work on anything other than the most casual setting.

>>44404071

Rail Rifles ignore their armour, although the overcharged Ion rifles are also worth it. Ion rifles are better against targets with high Toughness and are more versatile. Just bear in mind that you will need a markerlight to improve their accuracy. Also both are Rapid Fire.

Yeah but apply enough of those and you might take it out a lot faster. 3 good D3 rolls and it's already down to 1 wound and Ahriman can fire 3 or 4 spells a turn. Nice trips, Khorne.

'Generic Hive Tyrant'
I mean you could have made it unique but instead you gave it the most generic warhead ever
>>
How can you fix up a flying Hive Tyrant to have the correct number of arms?

I recall old 3rd ed Nids having a great converted one in the codex. I was about 12 at the time though so maybe I'm just remembering it better than it was.

I definitely know the modern Hive Tyrant has a much crappier head though, completely lacking the frill.

Do not buy from GW directly, you can find the same product for 10-20% off if you look hard enough.

Does anyone else hate the Daemonkin? They could have just made a new CSM but no.
>>
>>44405900

>>44405917
>It's a quick fix to part of a problem
The problem being the new Bloodthirster models weren't being sold to 40k fans?
>>
>>44405900
yes and no. khorne in 40k really did need a buff and new bloodthrister/skarbrand. i wish they had rules for those new models and they even have round bases but i digress.

it wasn't likely for chaos to get an update but some attention is better then none. it also puts daemonkind/csm/daemon in a weird spot since the next update will either merge a lot or eliminate a faction.
>>
>>44405900
I'm at the point where I genuinely don't give a fuck anymore.
WHFB is gone, 40k has been going in a direction that doesn't do anything for me for a few years now and there are more and more other companies that have minis that are just as good or better than gw. Not to mention the rules.

I really only care about the models these days. No that doesn't mean I spent the ridiculous 'premium prices' on a single plastic model they are asking.
>>
>>44405941
gimped CSM. Now khorne fanboys (the vast majority of CSM players I know) have a more competitive codex with some fluffy rules (sorely lacking in main book).

Bangles don't really have too much to complain about. They have an okay codex, good models, and they get stuff from Imperial Armour II (I think). All they really need are some buffs to Scouts and Dreds, some formations, and access to Centurions.
>>
>>44406238
CSM suck as a whole, and the Defiler is no exception.

Avoid playing and collecting CSM like the plague, or you are gonna regret it like me
>>
>>44406238
The Defiler's rules themselves are okay, it's just about 50 points too expensive.
>>
>>44406251
>>44406269
What would be an example of an effective CSM list at 1000 points? Daemons?
>>
>>44406238
Compare it to his friend, the soul grinder. In the Daemonkin codex their pages are literally across from each other , and GW hasn't realized why the Defiler is utter and absolute shit.
>It's more expensive than the SG
>It has worse front armour (av12 vs av13)
>Doesn't get sweet Daemon buffs (shrouded, +3" run etc.)

>>44406277

You would be better off with Daemons, as you see in this thread there CSM is in a terrible place.

Daemons are alright and pretty fun if you are cool with psykers and randomness.

I'm planning on making a small daemon "army" for one of my Ork Weirdboyz to summon as a "korruption".
Nurgle or Slaanesh?
>>
>>44406516
i wouldn't suggest doing malefic if you're not daemons. the powers are expensive and you're likely to peril easily. consider this, you can have 2 lv2 orks with +2 from nearby orks +d6 for a total of 6-12 warp charges. summoning, incurision, and possession needs at least 5 dice to get the spell off.

i would go khorne since they mix well with orks and they're simple. slaanesh is tricky or rather they're not as straight forward considering powers and psychic stuff.

>>44407177

>>
>>44406489
Daemons are usable at 1850 if you run Princes and Heralds and pink horrors. Summon tons of stuff and hope you roll lucky.
CSM are pretty much limited to Cultists, Spawn, generic HQ's, and Heldrakes as the best options. Which isnt very competitive since it drops off hard after these units. And neither army has formations.
>>
>>44407177
Pinning is in the same boat as well. Suppressive fire to lock down a unit and make them less of a threat shouldn't just be shrugged off. Taking cover when getting shot at should be common sense no matter how not-afraid of bullets you are.
>>
>>44407294
Precisely why I hate Pulse Carbines and always opt for Rifles or any other weapon. Short range and a borderline useless gimmick. Anyone susceptible to pinning is also usually easy to wipe out completely.
>>

Alternatively take the Nurgle artillery FOC and cover the board in dangerous terrain with Basilisks.
>>
>>44407347
Don't get ahead of yourself. You really need at least 3 more XV8s, more if you want. With the new max squad size at 9 you can't have too many. Don't buy a Riptide until you can support him properly.

Build more gun drones. Those are the meat and potatoes of drones.

Tau REALLY don't need FW unless you just really want to plop down that much money.

>>44408392
I actually like the look of them a lot.

>>
>>44408442
Tau gunline is the least effective way to play them. Effective play has some units holes up in the back and the mobile bits hoping cover and taking objectives while picking off priority targets.

>>
>>44408459

>>44408442

There's a difference between being an all shooting codex, and castling up on the spot to roll an eternal shooting phase.

As for Fire Warriors, they look great. The Devilfish currently isn't really good enough to play them as mobile as they should be without a ton of dead points, but asthetics aren't an issue.
>>
>>44407331
I still prefer carbines, but that's mostly a holdover from when rapid fire weapons needed to be stationary to be most effective.
>>
>>44408493

Least effective and most infuriating. At least getting tabled by riptide and other suit spam happens with style instead of sitting through 45 minutes of shooting dice, taking your turn in half that time, then another 45 minutes of shooting.

You win against Tau gunline every time, but you don't have fun doing it.

I don't know why anyone would buy the Ta'unar Supremacy Armour, the model isn't that great and you're never going to see it used because no one in their right mind would play against it.

Wow, I can overwatch! Skitarii rangers can destroy any vehicle with base weapons, necron warriors can glance to death any vehicle and have rp, dire avengers are fast and have blade storm rule. And they're all bs4. BUT. I. CAN. OVERWATCH WITH FEW SQUADS. WOW

My friend and I also split the DA set and I took the DA which eventually became my Ravenwing army.

He switched to KDK because he likes chaos still but CSM a shit.

He choose to go heavy in the gorepack and heldrake area. (1 heldrak at 1k, 2 at 1500, 3 at 1850)

It is fun to play against him since we are both fairly mobile and bike oriented. His flesh hounds tarpit like no other but lolHit&Run

Heldrakes certainly give me the biggest problem.

And the cannonfiend I can never remember the actual name of. But he has dropped it by 1850 in exchange for the other heldrake.
