If you could remove one race from WH40K which that would be?

Pic related for me what a shit race we already have Orks to serve as unstoppable horde and Necrons are more intimidating where it comes to wiping out life aspect.
Zergs are cooler looking btw.

Orkz. Silly soccer hooligans have no place in a grimdark future. i'd also have my 40k take itself much more seriously.

Tau. They literally contribute nothing and are nothing more than window dressing.
>>
>>44357871
Fucking Benthamite space weebs
>>
>>44357885
The Tau literally are the most irrelevant faction. The Craftworld Eldar probably have half the Tau population yet are still more important than the blueberries.
>>
>>44357860
As trolly as that is, if you took 'humans' to mean 'unaugmented and genetically unaltered humans' it could result in a pretty interesting angle on the whole last days of an empire theme. You'd be left with the machine priests and the spehs muhreens fighting for a people that aren't there anymore, for the sake of pride, tradition, and maybe a faint hope of finding the STC for the sacred and mythical human form again.
>>
>>44357865
Wh40k is a parody of dystopian settings not actual grimdark story. Holy shit how dumb people can be is anything more subtle than fart jokes too much for people too handle?
>>
>>44357897
The Tau are a stand-in for any number of small xeons empires. I would rater have ten or twenty races with two or three modular units each that you could mix and match to make your own galactic federation.

>>44357865
Taking the grimdark so seriously is literally what is ruining 40K.
>>
>>44357909
>What is Slaanesh for $500.

Not to mention the Eldar played a major part in the 13th Black Crusade, are humanity's best ally against Chaos, are the entire reason why the galaxy is so fucked, and show up in seemingly every plot thread.

>>44357907
Too bad the opposite is happening with Tau.
>>
>>44357918
Alas, the rules are getting more and more 'streamlined' with every edition. I wonder when we'll see simple canned units that correspond 1:1 to the miniature selection rather than having options.
>>
>>44357918
>are the entire reason why the galaxy is so fucked,

Nah.

It's the Necrons with their War in Heaven. The Eldar race are a consequence of that war.
>>
>>44357906
It has been, perhaps. It's not being sold this way anymore. All the novels and the codexes expect you to take them seriously. Orks are the only note of sillyness left.

I'm not saying it is better this way. I'm not a fan of 40k and its over-the-top grimdarkness doesn't make it any more appealing; I might like it more if I could take it as self-ironic, but again, the vast majority of the product doesn't invite you to take it as a parody.

So, as they are now, the orks are quite out of place.
>>
>>44357918
The Eldar USED to be important nowadays they're nothing more than those wacky kids that keep playing catch on your lawn
>>
>>44357974
>. Orks are the only note of sillyness left.

Not true.

The Newcrons have plenty of silliness in them that it's hard to take them seriously. Trazyn, Imotekh, and that senile lord who thinks everyone is a necrontyr are all wacky and silly characters.

>If you could remove one race from WH40K which that would be?

I'd remove the race of Fat Neckbeards like OP who complain about retarded fluff issues while failing to address the major short-comings and flaws in the current edition rules.
>>
>>44358037
>Fans : We want a serious approach to the Orks. We want them to be more than throwaway comic relief, we want them to have the focus
>Random retard on the web : Hurr Derp Dan Abnett

Yare Yare....

It's not like the story even had Orks in it until the final chapter where the Beast makes his villainous appearance. So it's impossible to know where they are going to take the Orks from this unless you are a troll or mentally ill.
>>

Tau. They are boring and flat with regards to fluff, so no loss there.
It would also remove the most obnoxious group of players from the game.

>the mouthy weeb retard playing the unpainted gunline/formation

Getting rid of this would be wonderful. Especially since there has been an influx of grey plastic Riptides/Ghostkeels/Stormsurges.

If you're talking about any species then probably one of those minor xenos that wouldn't change shit if they were removed. Sslyth, Galg or something.

If you're talking about playable factions only then Necrons. We already have an immortal, old faction and two unstoppable hordes. Ad Mech can cover the machine angle. Plus, decurion started this OP formation phase.
>>

Humans.

It'd take away all the worst aspects of 40k, which include the Imperium, Space Marines, and most of Chaos.
>>
>>44358682
But then plot development would just be: "Big space rocks crashed together which made, some bugs fight against mushrooms, then some robots came in i guess, btw the space elves are still having sex out in space"

The humans have been the big plot engines, without them it'd be a pretty boring setting
>>
>>44358678
>Dark Eldar
>Boring

They're just not tier 1 baddies, they're designed to be slavers that drop out of nowhere, grab anything shiny and run like hell.
>>
>>44358757
Dark Eldar are not necessary because Chaos does everything they do except better. Slaaneshi's do everything the Dark Eldar do with flesh crafting, slave taking, emotion seeking, etc.

>f you could remove one race from WH40K which that would be?
Grey Knights.
They should have never happened. Doing them as a squad in an Inquisition army was fine an entire army feels just wrong.
>>
>>44358808
desu it's more to do with aesthetic and playstyle. Chaos and most of the Imperium's armies are basically codex: space marines with slight wargear tweaks.

Hell, in any reasonably concise system you wouldn't need a Chaos codex either, just have a space marines one, a daemons and cults one and a guard and inquisition one, then say that marines can take allies from one or the other but not both.

Nids should stay. They are one of the only races that isn't just a Warhammer Fantasy race that's recycled in space. They are also scarier than Orks because Nids are united under the Hivemind and nobody knows how many Tyranids there even are because most of them haven't even arrived yet. The Necrons are no longer trying to wipe out all life by the way. Also, as cool as the Zerg are they blatantly ripped off the Tyranids who came first.

I think the Tau should stay. Like the Nids they are one of the only races that isn't just recycled from Warhammer Fantasy. I like that 40K has tried to move in it's own direction instead of just being medieval fantasy IN SPACE! I also like the contrast between the other races more blatant evil and the Tau's shining utopia exterior that's hiding sinister things within. Plus their mecha just look cool in my opinion.

As for which race should be removed, I would say the Dark Eldar. They seem to play even less of a role in the setting than the Tau.

Because that is literally space marines, except you forgot "pointless Toiletpapir stuck randomly on their armour"

40k aesthetic is retarded all the way around, and that is part of the charm. I love the aesthetic almost all the way around the various races, but I can recognise how retarded a lot of this shit is.

As for the question.. If we are talking faction, it would be SOB, no contest. If we are talking race, I say let the Eldar race bite the bullet. They are among the last remains of the "generic fantasy concept IN SPACE", but I do love the aesthetic too much to want them gone.

There is a in-verse theory that the Destroyer Curse is something the C'tan programmed into the Necrons due to the fact that it appears in a uniform way in all dynasties. Mental damage is one of its causes but it doesn't explain everythig about it.

>Flayers

They Flayed Ones are afflicted with the Flayer Plague which is a disease a C'tan left behind as revenge.

Pity that their Codex books don't reflect it perfectly on how much rape they generate.

As long as the Cruddance is around, then they may never be both fun and competitive...well at least the Tyrannocyte gave them back some of their old tactics, but still waiting for when Old One Eye be actually useful.

Hell, re-balance the Nids so to make every unit useful in the ways you like.

At least he does the IG well...

Then again he didn't gave them back regimental doctrines and unique rules and force organizations to make fluffy forces.

Wanna play a Mechanized Cadian Regiment? Sure, select the appropriate Regimental Doctrines and run with them.

But seriously, in these times they should do something about it. They made the Chapter Tactics for Space Marines and they gave some diversity to Chapter gameplays, so I'd love to see something new.

I'd like to see, apart of Regimental Doctrines, things like Chaos Marine Legion Rules for the vanilla Traitor Legions and popular traitor/renegade Chapters, Eldar Craftworld Rules for the main Craftworlds and the popular lesser ones, Tyranid Hive Fleet Rules...even Ork Clan and Tau Cadre Rules.
>>
Drop space marines. They're just such a boring faction, all their fluff is basically "Might Valor Honor Betrayal". They're just... Uninteresting. Sisters do the Power Armor thing better, Imps do the Human thing better and Eldar do the Small group of skilled fighters vs hordes in both a more interesting and mechanically enjoyable way, Focusing on specialization rather than easy mode "good at everything".

A small small handful of their factions are interesting, but most read as sterile and one-note at best.

>>
>>44357832
Honestly?
Chaos Daemons.
I am sick as fuck about Chaos being "The Ultimate Threat" when the fluff never represents that well. Chaos gets their ass handed to them all the time. Meanwhile, Tyranid Hive Fleets casually stroll through several sectors and are only stopped by something major, usually requiring large amounts of sacrifices. Necrons technology out does most of what Chaos is seen doing. But no, Chaos is the big threat guys, seriously, fuck anything the Xenos do.
Chaos Marines can stay as a sort of competing empire/pirate group. Chaos gods can stay, but they are all stuck in the warp. But daemons? Nah, they can fuck off.

The Black Crusades have done more damage to the Imperium than Tyranid Hive Fleets.

It's compounded that during the Age of Ending the veil between reality is so thin that in a single moment thousands of Imperial worlds were lost to daemonic incursions. What the Tyranids can do in years, Chaos can do in an instant..

Saying that the fluff doesn't "represent" the threat of Chaos shows wilful ignorance and saltiness of unprecedented levels.

I actually do like the Tau. They bring the perspective of a young upstart race like what humanity would have been like during the first colonization of the Galaxy before every single piece of shit hit the fan. The only time we ever hear anything good happening for long periods of time is with the Imperium Golden age. Everything is horrible and ancient. A new noblebright race is needed for comparison up until the point they realize why everything is awful and they change doctrine.

The IG issue is probably just because GW themselves realise how trite and boring a fully mechanised tank army is, so they prevented it through regular rules.

The regimental thing is probably more because of the fact that most regiments act mostly the same. The outliers do have unique rules (tempestus, dkok, elysian, etc)

And before anyone refutes the parking lot issue, just stop. Yeah, you think it is fine and "fluffy", except almost all tank battles have included a shit ton of infantry men. So sure, call it fluffy, and have fun against the guy fielding all riptides because that is equally fluffy. And equally boring.

The whole Riptide thing should be hard-capped.

Seriously, if there are units that are OP, if not downright Game Breaking tier, then they should be at least hard-capped.

They did it right with relegating the Wraith Knight to LoW, but they also should do the same with Riptides, Stormsurges and not!Terran Thor (aka: Ta'Unar Supremacy Armor).

I don't care much for hardcapping riptides as much as I care for hardcapping tough MCs and vehicles I'm general. Having a wall of AV13/14 tanks is boring as fuck, and makes most all-comer lists have about 50% of their army turn redundant. At least pretty much everything CAN harm a Riptide, even if the chance of doing so is so low you might feel like it isn't worth trying.

The Riptide (and the variants) are a problem from a balance point of view, but parking lot lists are equally boring to play against, even if there are options for dealing with them for most armies.

Yeah.

To be frank, the armies and the units should be revisited and rebalanced. The game itself should be rebalanced in such ways that the units wouldn't be OP, yet also that no unit would end up being redundant.

Most Tau hatred is bullshit.

Eldar are far more Japanese influenced than Tau, Imperial Guard are 9/10 times just as stationary and Space Marines have a far goofier design.

The crap about them being not very significant to the setting could just as easily be applied to all the other alien species that people want to see models for.

It's just that there's a type of nerd that's always hostile to the latest thing and the Tau are basically the last thing that was added to the setting rather than expanded from the existing fluff.

The issue with Tau is the initial lore about having a bunch of alien species come together was interesting, but since 4th through to 7th they have become what everyone dismissed them as initially; shooty-shooty mechs.

Now we get nothing but 'We are superior because we can into technology' and bigger battlesuits. The army has become a parody of itself and deserves to be axed along with Imperial Knights or anything that was designed along the lines of the Dreadknight.

What's wrong with mechs? They've been in the game since the first edition. The Dreadnought is a mech. The Wraithlord is a mech. The Killa Kan is a mech. Titans are all mechs. Most armies have a mech.
>>
>>44362748
There is nothing wrong with mechs. The difference is other armies are not solely defined by mechs.

No, but I enjoy not just hiding half my army behind covet because they have no way of impacting the game, because I happened to build a well rounded all comers list, where half of it cannot even harm a wall of AV13/14.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fluff but I 've also used them and played against them and for a game that revolves around disposable units and major heroes having an army of 4-5 models that may or may not instantly kill anything on the table or just blow up on their own, is miserable

They should have been 0-1 only. And not per detachment, 1 max PER ARMY.

Its already happening. Most unit entries only include the options that are in a given kit's box. Granted, we are getting more bits for previously rare shit like combi-weapons for SM so its not a total loss.

The only real conversion potential new codexes offer are relic items, and even those can be lazily done with existing bits.

Not him, but you are a dickhead

Sisters. Literally just genderswaped fap bait for dudes that want to jerk off to space marines but are afraid that will make them gay.

Also tau, for no other reason than that their civilization developed to its current level in a 1000 years or something and their meant to be on verge of out-teching everyone else. And the plot armor. And the week factor. Holy fuck tau are annoying special snowflakes

I agree with all this bar the fluff, which is essentially

>Archon Dumbfuck tries tricks
>Vect sure showed him, heh heh heh

isn't that Cho from League of Legends?

The dark eldar don't do anything that the followers of slaanesh don't already do. They're both packs of drug addicted rapists who cover themselves thin spikes like saturday morning cartoon villains.

>>44371163
Pretty much this. Putting spikes on something and painting it black doesn't always make it look good.

Yeah Vect never fucking up and everything happening according to his keikaku is pretty played out. I'm more interested in all the weirdness of Commorragh than how good Vect is at playing chess.

I think you mean "Followers of Slaanesh don't do anything that Dark Eldar don't already do."
