my dwarf character is a warrior from a family of prestigeous explorers. They believe that their ancestor unlocked the secret of dark vision for dwarves by drawing these ancient runes over his brow and that by copying these runes over their brow. He is completely oblivious that pretty much every dwarf has dark vision and constantly tries to show off how he can see in the dark and tells bogus stories about the things his ancestor "discovered". His motive for adventuring is that he is on a quest to hunt down the dragon that stole the clans golden monument of their ancestor. Because of this he also has a strong distrust of anything with dragon like characteristics such as wings, horns or tails.

I had a dwarf character who was the son of the typical heavy drinking dwarven fighter, renowned as a great hero to their clan. In contrast, my dwarf was a bit of a scholar instead, a lover of history and lore. He was a priest of the Dwarven god for the setting, soft spoken and slightly soft-hearted. He even favored a neat, somewhat short beard.
A lot of his personal growth was learning to accept who he was and to stop living in the shadow of his father.

I had a dwarf who was an undefeated lucha champion, thanks to a feat that made him immune to being pinned. The game he was in didn't last long but personality-wise was a large ham who did odd jobs for money, so he could fund his lucha training school

That's one way to put it I suppose. I never got to do anything especially interesting since the game died off fairly quickly. The jobs I remember doing were security for a high-value package that ended up being stolen (wrestlers don't do well vs guns) and finding shoggoths in a sewer. Some old guy was in control of them and I got out of fighting in exchange for an autograph.

Dwarves are one of the worst staple fantasy races.
They bring no opportunities to the table that a drunken nationalist human character doesn't bring and they're only slightly more interesting to look at than elves who at least tend to have a strong variety to them. While some settings have stronger elves, orcs or cute child-people than others, I can count on dwarves being the same no matter where I go.
The fascination with them some people have seems more shallow than even elf fetishism, at least then it has a reason.
