A god can only be killed by a being of Divine power, or by a weapon of divine origin. An iron Dagger will not slay a god, but Theanar's Brass Hammer can crush a gods skull with ease, as it's of the Heavens.
As long as you or your weaponry are of Divine origin, you kill a God much as you would any other being. Though they'll try their damndest to kill you first.

Gods gain their powers from the accumulated prayer energy fired at them from their believers. If people stop believing, the god loses power until it's forgotten and withers away until it's absorbed back into the energy of the world.
To kill a god, you must kill their followers. Or convert em all with your titty priestesses.
Their physical form can be harmed or destroyed. Only a god or something with the same divine power or essence can kill another god.
The power of their religion and faith though, if they have one, can eventually cause them to "respawn" though they will lack the experiences, memories and knowledge they used to have. Like being being born again almost, and in some cases quite literally being born again. Like one of them was killed and born as a child to followers, and lived a normal life until she was in like her late 20s and "awakened", by that time already having a mortal family of her own.

While there exist specific god-killing weapons made in a past age by a guy that almost destroyed all existence, there are generally only two ways to kill a god
1. Be a god of death/judgement/other fitting portfolio and do the deed as normal
2. Have both the strength to overpower said deity or their avatar, and do it in a manner that has poetic justice. Someone killing the god of vengeance in the name revenge, someone killing the god of justice in the name of the law, killing the god of greed with some cosmic treasure used to lure them into a trap, etc.

Gods, of course, know this perfectly, but are greedy and easily tricked by deceit and gambles - as turning down a challenge could also lead them into becoming Forsaken
despite being the ones behind its shaping, most Gods aren't at all familiar with the physical world, and are slow and inefficient fighters, against quick and experienced warriors, mages, etc
of course, they will put up a tremendous fight, and each time they're victorious, they gain powers and knowledge that makes them steadily more powerful over time
however, if they fall in battle, their spirit has been so strongly attached to their vessel that they become unable to return to the spirit world, leaving their challengers able to consume, store or destroy their very souls, effectively killing them
the only reason there are still gods to this day is because there's a shitton of them because yknow, they're still their separate things that mortals have come to worship

Every god has an antithesis; a being that resists their goals and antagonizes them and their followers. The reason the gods allow these beings to exist is because they are intrinsically linked to them. If their antagonistic rival dies, they die too.
This explains how a benevolent god can allow evil to exist: If they destroyed the other god, they would die too and humanity would be left to its own devices, which many gods view as a bad idea. You can kill the physical bodies they create for themselves about as easily as anything else, just expect them to be extremely powerful creatures with plenty of physical and magical defenses.
However, a God is not so much a being as it is a concept with some degree of control over the universe. You can't kill a concept, you can only kill everyone who can comprehend it and hope it doesn't strike someone stronger with you with inspiration about this "new" idea hundreds of years later.

Gods are powerful, almost omnipotent, but can be killed by mortal heroes. How?
Mortals of appropriate badassery and willpower are cut from Destiny and Fate, able to forge their own tales. As such, they are immune to omnipotent bullshit o the gods.
This has happened only twice in the history of the setting though.
Killing a God is theoretically possible, but in my setting the Gods are planets, stars, constellations, comets, moons and so on.
And this is a world with typical iron age technology. So good luck with that.

By killing progressively more spiritually powerful creatures with weapons capable of absorbing their essence and transferring said essence into their wielders.
Eventually, you get the wielders of those blades to fight each other to the death, absorbing all THAT essence as well, then you use the remaining weapon, now powered up to insane levels, to kill the gods.
Just, be careful who you choose for a wielder, they might screw your goals sideways by betraying the "Savior" character you had set up for all the sheeple. That tends to end kina badly.
