Dragonfall has the best story
Hong Kong has the best gameplay
>>
Honestly I feel like Shadowrun is still waiting for its really good game. Both HK and Dragonfall become a bit of a drag as they roll on and the SR games really need to do a game that's bigger and freer in scale.

I'd HK has the more interesting villain, better supporting cast, more interesting location and gameplay. Dragonfall ultimately probably has the better plotted story and if you split the two evenly, more of the more interesting missions.

Trolls > Elves = Orks > Humans > Dwarves

Official waifu-potential power rankings do not steal

Also, depends. Dragonfall had the better story and characters in my opinion, but Hong Kong had more stuff and better overall gameplay. It's apples and oranges really.

>You kids
This is a bit of a weird comment to address. I really like isometric turn-based squad-level games, and Baldur's Gate 2 is one of my definitive, all-time favourite games. I don't play CoD games and I got bored of Skyrim very quickly.

I'm assuming you have played the same stalwarts of the isometric squad-based genre as me - BG1 and BG2, Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment. Do you really think Shadowrun Returns, HK or Dragonfall are as good as those?

I think the static hub and the limited palette of missions is a really tough barrier to overcome. I also think the games are very reliant on a small pool of characters, who I wouldn't say are universally great, and more importantly a limited form of interaction. HK's gradual upping of the creepy factor is a great idea, but it's a lot less interesting when it's directly spelled out to you in repetitive dialogue choices or text dream sequences. I appreciate this is a budget constraint in many ways but I think if SR wants to have a truly great game it has to overcome this.

>>
>>44345470
Alright so actually I think Vauclair is pretty okay as a villain. He does have motivation like you point out and he has a backstory (which isn't delivered in all that an interesting way but hey). I think that 'motive' 'goal' and 'reason' all kind of bleed into the same territory though.

Fundamentally though, the Yama King is just way more aesthetically appealing to me than Vauclair. The teeth symbolism, the reality-warping slum and living nightmare experiences, the gate, the weird obtuse laws it can't violate, etc. It is just more my jam than some scientist guy.

StandardS of objectivity and consistency is the basis of valid criticism. It's how we separate serious critiques (how it fails and why) from 'just my opinion (I don't like it).

Spoony does 'just my opinion. His 5e review basically boils down to 'it's not second ed'
>>
>>44347672
Except 4E was as far from second edition as you can get and he still liked it. I still can't wrap my head around why he doesn't like 5E even after he spent two hours explaining his opinion.
>>
>>44347695

I thought he hated 4e AND 5e and was a 3aboo?
>>
>>44347711
No. He hates 3rd edition but likes Pathfinder. He was one of the earliest to review 4E and said he liked the balance and the design direction. He again reiterates this point in the start of his 5E rample that he liked 4E.

Dammit. I'd forgotten that. As a 4e fan I'm feeling a bit of shame.

The funny thing? It's not that hard to find something to concretely dislike about 5e (Though if you can call it objectively wrong is very questionable. I don't like 5e but that's opinion.) but his ramble...isn't good for that.

>>
>>44345237
Maybe on the Tabletop but Trolls are objectively the best in the HBS games because you get more free stat points at no cost, and Body is one of your free stats - which gives you more health and makes the whole game more forgiving. Sure, you're limited at endgame, but I ran with BD5 ST6 WP6 CH5 as my highest stats at endgame as a Troll Adept.

I've not seen a troll that wasn't a big ole' muscle girl... Not saying that's a problem, but orcs and elves are human enough to pull off any style while still being different enough to have an exotic charm. I'd even put trolls behind humans (although only just so), but dwarves would still sit comfortably at the bottom.

Not unless you're talking about PnP editions. Maybe the mote lore faithful game is /tg/ territory, but that's not what OP asked. He asked which is the better GAME, and that's something /v/ is more qualified to answer.

They'll just probably do si while calling you a faggot and posting troll porn.
>>
>>44345225
No they aren't as good. They are also very different in there play style. BG and BG2 allow you to explore the entire world with extra parts opening up as you finish chunks of the main story. Whereas the Shadowrun games follow a linear path where you have to complete the side quests to drive forwards the main story similar to the icewind dale series or the NWN games instead.
Both series are great but i think the main reason BG and BG2 stood out so much is that my runthrough would be vastly different from yours based on my choices, where as shadowrun would be the same, excpet you played a different character.
Also why im here, is wastelamd 2 worth getting for $20ish during the steam sale?

If you push to the end of Racter's dialogue tree he indicated he'll see his idea of a future through with you. He has no reason to lie, and it's entirely plausible he holds you in higher regard than his last party (although that party did have the awesome Lucky Strike, so he obviously has bad taste).

He really was one of the best SR characters to date - I think he and Gobbet were the standouts in HK. Gaichu was cool conceptually but a bit disappointing in practice.
>>
>>44358635
Pretty much all of HK's cast was nice. is0bel for instance is the best lame hacker added to a party to date (though admittedly, her competition for the role is fucking blitz), Duncan Donuts is the best straight man (in the vein of Eiger or Coyote), etc, etc.
>>
>>44358664
I can't really rate Is0bel in comparison to Blitz because, as you say... it's fucking Blitz. Her solo mission was really fun though. Duncan just got on my nerves to be honest, they should have been a lot more adventurous with how they did his character.

I have played through all of the Hare Brained Scheme's Shadowrun games. I wouldn't call any of them bad. Returns is okay and as a first entry in the series while solid it does not hold a candle to the other two. DF:DC expanded the scope of the game world and the story of a conspiracy that involves a supposedly killed dragon, a horrorific AI lurking about, and an Anarchistic state fitting into the Shadowrun world are all great but the gameplay was more or less the same as its predecessor for good and ill. HK has an engaging story in its own right but I think it is far too wordy for its own good but the gameplay has been tweaked in some lovely ways such as the new dragon leylines which allow spells to effect random targets (in addition to the main one) and the decking being way better due to (mostly) playing like a little stealth minigame till you get spotted.

Overall the HBS games are good and I look forward to future SR games from them.

Decker or Decker/Rigger. I think strictly speaking the "best" class to play Dragonfall is the same one Monika is - Assault Rifle Decker.

I always thought it was kind of interesting how the main villains of the Shadowrun games never end up being corporations. I mean yeah, you fight corps here and there, and the villains sometimes use them towards their own ends, but there's nothing really "corporate" about them, which I really like.
>>
>>44361233
Yeah, I mean corporations in SR are shady as fuck, but for the most part their agenda is to make money and that's reasoning most people can get behind. All the main villians are things or people whose reasoning is either batshit or entirely alien.

Is0bel was USEFUL in a lot of ways that Blitz just wasn't. Grenade Launcher was fuckballs awesome, the bleedout pistol was always good, and she never felt like dead weight. I really just wish her character was more interesting, because I was taking her along on every run, and while she was always useful, she could have been a more engaging character. Especially since you need a decker on almost every run.

stealth + cover third person shooter + RPG

and make it online at that so that you can have an entire team working together but not controlled by one character

what i'd love about this is that just like in any cooperative game, runs can go sideways and you'd have to deal with it and carry on as best as you can, i would make it so failed actions could ante up the difficulty for all the players but make it so that you're not bound to a "mission" or "session" so if shit goes down badly you can drop whoever and try to bolt out of there and abandon the mission, with all the reputation drawbacks that it would bring

plus most archetypes would have different kinds of gameplay and it would be pretty cool

This desu senpai, I like the idea of mummorpugger but usually dislike how the non-MMO, non-RPG mechanics are implemented (Juggling cooldowns? Really, Blizzard? That's what you want your combat to be like? Is that what you find fun?)

Anyway, I can just imagine going on a raid with my guild working just like going on a run with my chummers. It sounds like it could be lots of fun if the game was otherwise well-designed.
>>
>>44367199

Is it possible to have a character with only one cybernetic eye? It seems the fluff states it wouldn't be very practical because it would disorient the user because of brain signals or some bullshit.
>>
>>44378002
Actually, one of the old 2nd Edition books gives a better explanation, though his is with two different models of cybereye instead of just one cybereye.

>"At first my left eye changed focus faster than my right eye, which gave me splitting headaches; I got that fixed after about a month."

I imagine you'd run into similar issues with a single cybereye and a single biological eye, except it'd probably be harder to adjust.
>>
>>44378037
So let's say your just using a cyber eye to replace an eye you lost, does that mean it's more practical just to replace both eyes? Anyone tried to run a character with only a single cyber eye successfully?
>>
>>44378002
You can, but it's kinda pointless. Cybereyes are cheap as a pair and having just one limits some of the upgrades you can put in it.
The only reason to take a single eye is because you need a medical replacement, want to minimize your essence loss, and can't afford a biological one.
