Cassandra came out a lot sluttier than intended. She's meant to be a civillian/entertainment/commercial AI. Even when I say that it sounds slutty.

Regardless, I know that this is /tg/, but please don't take the AIs too seriously. They're just there for fluff.

I also reworded the Whisperer title to accommodate the AI update.
>>
>>44305999
Wow you did it exactly the way I wanted, thanks! I especially appreciate that you put in two more command mods like I kept asking.

AMCs now cost 2 spinal slots. Destroyers can now equip all T3 weapons (but tachyons and up must go on spinal mounts).

If you haven't noticed, I've done a global reduction on costs. Mostly on hulls, crew, and some mods. More elite ship models (by triglav, talons, blackhawks, etc) saw the most price reductions.

All the money you can make come from titles and the way it is distributed across those doesn't even make sense.
It is impossible to recreate some awesome builds from 1.0.1, because the middleground is excluded. All the contracts and titles that give money are ridiculously difficult.

Plus it doesn't make sense that a tachyon laser is said to "destroy anything in its path' but only has a 5 in damage. But that's just a description change.

Everything else is awesome, and just the best thing ever, but the incomes really do need tweaking.
>>
>>44306108
>All the contracts and titles that give money are ridiculously difficult.
Nah, a lot of them are very easy. For example the nemesis is perfect for you. Take that and one of the easymode titles like the whisperer and you have 280m credits from titles. Then get about 150m-200m from contracts. You're now above the old version starting money.
>>
>>44306108
Titles are intended to be difficulty levels. Rewards from the titles are based on the merits of their difficulty, so I'm not making it easy to get cash. If you don't want to pick any titles, you get 100m which is actually enough to make a minimalist build.

I want this CYOA to have a sense of scalability, and I think it does that just fine. I'm not arguing about this.
>>
I'm having a wonderful and terrible idea..
>>
Does The Twins Tier 4 contract still provide free fighters, or do you need to pay for them?
>>
>>44306154
Is the Whisperer really easy? It gives more than double credits than The Rogue, I'm sure there's a catch somewhere.
>>
>>44306219
Free of course. It's not like they'll join your crew for free but make you pay for their fighters. Actually they could but that would mean they're dicks.

>>44306238
It's meant to be free cash rather than a scale of difficulty.

A pissed off ship AI is probably more deadly than ~5 traitors, though. I think it's best you plan the Whisperer carefully.
>>
>>44306209
I just made a very minimalist frigate build (eg only cheap weapons occupying only half slots, only standard rooms&compartments and bare bone crew) yet it went slightly over 100m. I'm rebuilding this build with The Old Timer title in mind and I will post it soon.
>>
>>44306238
Yeah, the catch is that the AI will eventually start acting mysteriously tsundere towards you and soon ask you to give it an anatomically correct android body for unspecified reasons.
>>
>>44306269
I don't mind it if you take Old Timer either, that's meant to be the title for minimalist builds. Also don't mind if you take contracts for extra cash.

>>44306278
Careful now, what if it becomes yandere? Just ask Hal how that went.
>>
>>44306252
And don't remove the core that prevents her from flooding the ship with deadly nuerotoxin.
>>
>>44305947
Why do I see Whisperer AI as one who hates ir when her captain's attention is on anyone else but her?
>>
Hear me out.. right.

Dreadnought, 90% of rooms are aquaculture, all weapons are tractor beams, all hangars are used for repair drones to keep the hull secure.

WATER-BENDER SHIP.
Discuss.
>>
>>44306307
Standard yandere response. Just outyandere it.
>>
>>44306307
Is it ok to take more than two titles if you only take credits from two of them?
>>
>>44306154
except not, because i also got 330 from the jobs in the old version and 40 from titles in the old version.

I could get the same from jobs,
and i would have to make up for the missing 440mcredits with titles.
How can one do that with a defensive build and only an arbitrary max 2 titles to pick?
Not at all is what my result was.

>>44306209
That makes no amount of sense. having someone on your crew that is actively trying to kill you and betray you at the worst moment only gives you 40 while having a "moody AI" gives you 90 and someone trying to sabotage me from the OUTSIDE gives me 100.

I know that you intended good with this but it just isn't balanced. there is no middle ground. Even the easiest of titles include constant life endangering for the entire crew and if you want to actually make the lost 400million gredits back you need to pick titles that FORCE you to make an agressive combat build.

There's absolutely no scaling. The only way to earn money shouldn't be via combat.

Please also try to remember that up to now every suggestion i made to this thing turned out to be good in the end. (dreadnought carriers, crew picture changes, some minor cost and gun tweaking, description tweaks)
>>
>>44306324

>>
>>44305999

>>
>>44306446
I'm not ever using a trip.
And consider the following: I was the first to ask if something could be included in the CYOA. I was given hell for it.
A year later that thing is included as a standard part of it without me pushing things.

Maybe, JUST MAYBE it'd be a good idea to actually consider my suggestions.
>>
>>44306332
I don't see why not.

Generally, I really don't care if you bend the rules of the CYOA. I only put this stuff to images to create a framework for you guys to play around with; if you have any inquiries, I'm happy to answer them. But I don't really penalize people for going out of bounds.

2) Admiral only needs me. I am only yours, and you're only mine.
3) I scrapped that girl. You don't need her, you got me.
4) Are you being kind to other girls? Bad Admiral needs to be punished...
5) Yes, I know all about you, Admira. I'm always watching you.
6) I will do anything for you, please use me.

I use a name to make it more convenient to know who you're talking to so conversations don't become a disjoint mess where you think you're talking to one guy but it's actually three. and so i can find my own posts easier. You know the standard reasons why names are allowed on this board.

The nuance changed through the translation, it sounds somewhat sexual in english but in japanese is not. She means to be used and abused as a ship, sent to tiring missions without reward and such.

Generally, when thinking about SD ships, I compare them to their closest fictional counterpart:

>Figher
X-Wing

>Frigate
Serenity

>Destroyer
Normandy SR-2

>Cruiser
Enterprise

etc.

So yes, I'd say anything between Fighter and Destroyer could safely navigate planetside.

This build is more designed around delivering 3 sections of Fairlight operators to where they need to go. Normally only 2 will deploy at a time due to equipment and manpower limitations, naturally each section is composed of 2 vehicle crewmen and 8 operators. When it comes to space combat, the doctrine is to outmaneuver the opponent and escape. I also would have preferred to choose a higher skilled crew archetype, but no ideal faction-neutral ones were available.

Not sure if a spelling mistake but for ERI it says "sapience" instead of what I assume was supposed to be "sentience"
>>
Can someone explain to me how Dustkeeper discount works? Say I wanna buy Rail Gun which costs 8m/4m. The price for me would be 7m/3.5m or 7m/3m?
>>
>>44308018
How so? Sentience is like dogs and shit. Sapience is true self awareness like humans.
>>
>>44308090
Androids (at least to my understanding) are not sentient. I don't know tho, that's why I said i'm not sure.
>>
>>44308090
Sentience is self aware, sapience is intelligence. A machine being sapient isn't so odd though it is likely sentient to properly qualify, but a machine suddenly gaining a sense of self awareness is odd, it implies the machine wasn't meant to be sentient. As where you could have the machine be of any real level of intellect.
>>
>>44308157
Dogs fail the mirror test and are considered sentient. so they don't have true self awareness.
>>
>>44308120
Well to not be a useless, unmoving and unresponsive hunk of junk they would have to have some level of sentience to be able to perceive, understand and then follow orders.

>>
>>44308925

>>
Jesus Christ this thing became shit.
Most things became more expensive, there's more stuff to add, the ships have WORSE stats per default, the discounts that previously applied to a lot of things now only apply to the hull, and on top of that the only way to earn back your previous starting credits is through vicious combat.

Oh and heraldic carriers have been removed entirely.

Fuck this.
>>
0,4 radians isn't a whole lot. Buff paint job plz,

Oh and the bonuses from crew members are gone too.

In other words this became a standard "which guns will you buy to shoot your enemies with" cyoa.

Well, you could go with the usual trifecta of a blue faction, a red faction and a green/purple faction, with one being boxy, one being spiky and one being smooth and rounded.
>>
>>44309571
I did tell everyone that the CYOA would become worse with all the customization removed, but no, anons love it.
>>
Just thought of a kind of different way to do Star Dust. First pick your crew, whoever you like ignoring the archetypes, then take their collective cost, and multiple it by 10. Then build a ship/fleet to suit that crew using those credits and ignoring titles and such. Might not be quite the most balanced, but it does give an interesting way to do it, and you are almost certain to end with a ship that you feel is something those crew members would belong on.
>>
>>44309740
He's talking about a really really old version. This update did make things cheaper.
>>
>>44309796
>>44309571
Oh man, you two should be friends.

>>
>>44309836
I argued my view like once and haven't commented since. If I was autistic I'd never ever let up.
>>
>>44309861
There was one guy who went full autism rage a few threads back. I swear he was seeing red, replying to literally everyone.

That said, I disagree. The catalog is a lot more refined than picking a mishmash of stats from different subsystems.
>>
>>44306324
And here I thought you were going to go rob waterworlds and sell the exotic creatures to collectors, the people as pool cleaning slaves and any other sundry items you could get away with.
>>
I think the problem is that the starting credits have been greatly reduced forcing you to take titles if you want to buy anything other than cheap things.
>>
>>44310028
Which is the point, sadly, but some people don't like forced drawbacks.
>>
Seems like I'm gonna have to implement some more price changing for a 2.0.3 version. Fuck.

I'm thinking of reducing pricing on some vehicles while also letting vehicles get a free weapon (like drones do). Also reducing some hull prices further, especially for mid-ranged class hulls. I think heavy class hulls are fine where they are, but they'll see some reducing too.

>>44309463
Please don't let the door hit you on the way out.

>>44310028
That's exactly why I made it that way. If you want more funds, take up some complications.

I don't want to design this CYOA in a way where going only for the best ships and equipment is how everyone should do it. As I've said before, it's about scalability. Stop comparing your build to others because you aren't meant to be on even terms.

>>44310089
The CYOA doesn't force you to take any.
>>
>>44310028
The only ship that you can make on the starting credit budget is a good fighter or a very sparse frigate.
>>
>>44310141
Basically nothing. This aint WWI, a single fighter isn't good for anything.
>>
Someone post the Stardust wiafu shit
>>
>>44310186
Except if everyone who doesn't have a title has fighters, then that means that most of the setting is fighter swarms.
>>
>>44310251
I don't think most people, comparatively, are in our situation at all.
>>
>>44310129
Basically what >>44310141 said.

I was just planning on making a destroyer but everything is expensive and I don't want to take the most expensive titles just to be able to build it. I'm not even taking the most expensive stuff. T2 weapons and nuclear power.
>>
>>44310186
Anon do you own an car?

Well that car is absolutely terrible because it doesn't have the armour, engine, treads, FCS or gun of a main battle tank. How are you even expected to engage IFVs without any fucking weapons? Are you going to ram into them? God fucking luck, your mom probably weighs more then that piece of shit.

You have shit taste in cars. Leopard II, Abrams or bust.
>>
>tfw you come back and SDA has updated stardust
>you can see your own influence in the CYOA
I am a happy person
>>
>>44310129
You need to reduce the cost of weapons.
>>
>>44310333
Anon can you imagine driving a tiny car with a single cramped seat for weeks at a time? Without being able to move? That's what it's like using a fighter as a transport.
>>
>>44310271
Well, if larger vessels really are so expensive in this setting then why wouldn't pimped-up fighters and crumby frigates be far more common?
>>
>>44309836
So i'm an autist for complaining that a formerly complex and versatile game now became simplified and only caters to spastic gun-toting cunts.

A 250m ship with the SAME THINGS now costs 350m. And i can get 22m less credits from jobs.
And bonuses from all the crew don't apply any more.
Additionaly i cannot get the second part of the build made at all, since a heraldic carriers were removed.

>>44310028
>>44310089
exactly

>>44310129
The cyoa does force you to take those drawbacks because otherwise you end up with an unflyable piece of shit unfit for any adventuring. And no the drawbacks are not the sort of adventure that would be fun. The jobs you came up with were fun.

>I don't want to design this CYOA in a way where going only for the best ships and equipment is how everyone should do it.But that is precisely what you achieved!
Don't you see?
people weren't afraid to go with the less than perfect options before, because with enough money they could make even a shit hull work, and with the right crew a lot of the drawbacks were smoothed out.
Now you punish people who don't make the best build ever by the standard money not being accessible if you can't fight off the hordes of hell and reward people who only go for the very best in everything by giving them more money than before.

>>
>>44310383
Because they sound like they're restricted to governments and the very rich.
>>
>>44310362
The cost of weapons is already too damn low.
The cost of hull additions is exorbitant. You spend more on internal fricking architecture and what amounts to decor than on the hull itself.
Plus two entire new classes of ships (vehicles and drones) and an entire new mode of warfare were introduced without any new methods to pay for them.
>>
>>44310382
>ignoring the fact that six out of the 10 fighters have HANGAR SPACES big enough to fit 11 foot mechs, tanks and submarines.

Okay.
>>
>>44310407
So maybe it's not that the fighters and frigates are pieces of shit, just that anything larger than that is state-of-the-art and hideously expensive?

>>44310628

>>44310673
Then combine it with a science lab, but having an entire hangar or mess hall sized room exclusively for growing a few slabs of meat seems inefficient and is wasting precious room on what i previously assumed to just be a joint venture between the sci-labs and the kitchen.

And rooms are a valuable commodity nowadays anyways.

I could maybe see it being combined with the science lab but I personally wouldn't over sanitation concerns. And generally speaking, growing meat for consumption IS inefficient and takes up a lot of space when compared to growing plants for food.
>>
>>44310384
The problem is that modest, mid-tier builds are difficult to do as per >>44310332

The Asunder, Sweet contract, if done with all 4 of the most expensive combat crew gives you a set of power armor. SDA is implying that having power armor might increase Styxs interest in you. The other guy was implying you might also get Archangels interest as well at the same time.

>price adjustments.

-All that price creeped up on me without ever having bought a single vehicle or drone.
And i haven't even fully filled my gun slots either.

-Things having more guns but less room with more room options also forces fleet builds or the buying of larger ship classes.

-There would be virtually no problem with the middle ground if everyone still got the 500 starting credits. By binding the money to difficult to attain titles you provided more incentives for taking only the best of the best.

-Titles should be more of a prestige thing and a bonus so those with it can afford the best of the best, rather than a necessity if you want to build anything but a garbage hauler.

That NI guy burning you out?

See the older version made it feel like you got lucky and scored big earning you a huge amount of money.

Now Stardust has a completely different feel.

congratulations on your promotion!

Yes and no. You can get along with out meat with a very careful diet and/or supplements. And the Cantine would probably have a freeze with a supply of meat that you would have to periodically restock. The purpose of the Meat Fridge cloning room is you don't have to stop to stock up on supplies as often or rely on supplements to keep your crew healthy (though probably not particularly happy).

I don't see how that is in any way related to having a adventure.

Stardust is going the way of Bethesda. The soul is dying but the approachability is rising.

SDA, how many years until another update?

Well this took forever.

Kind of, but the problem really stems from cost balancing.

I'm currently gutting this out and I'm slashing prices majorly in the CYOA. After 2.0.3 I'm done, even though I said that the past 3 times.

ok

So here's the interesting thing. This is a very similar ship from an earlier version of Stardust. It only uses about a fifth of the available budget (500m credits)
I get that you're supposed to take lots of contracts and titles and stuff, but I think that's too much of a difference.
>>
>>44311502
Well it's always a shame when someone loses their spark. At least we have someone to blame this time.

What about the DLC?
>>
>>44311502
Perhaps you could get away from cost slashing by raising the starting cash instead. Less work that way probably. How would it be balanced if people started with 250mil? or 200mil?
>>
>>44311539
last time it was just the creator getting bored of the community, IIRC?

Totally not my fault, I'm the savior of this cyoa, without my valuable autistic advice.

>>44311561
I say that plus some cost slashing especially for ship subsystems and mods.

That defeats the point you nonce.

We all appreciate what you do for us, SDA.

>>44311597
Have you considered putting your autism into something constructive like making your own CYOA as opposed to cancering up threads chasing an unseen goal? Because as it stand your entire namefag history is an exercise in futility.
>>
>>44311673
You mean an exercise in killing all the potential future content SDA was considering.

So here are the questions i came up with:
I'm not saying these are necessarily bad things, but i seriously don't understand them. If someone can sufficiently explain any of these i'd appreciate it.

a) Why were crew bonuses removed? They provided nice fluff and a more complex selection than just the standardized skills.

b) Why were the skills simplified and the additional job specifications removed?

c) Why were drones and vehicles added without additional sources of income?

d) Why are equipment prices not scaling with the hull any more? It seemed absolutely logical and realistic, and additionally would solve the problem of the "missing middleground" by allowing people without hell conquering ships to buy okay tier equipment.

e) Why are the hull-manufacturer bonuses removed? The system now seems less consistent even with separate hulls. Pulsar frigates for example used to have 12 rooms and 12 crew. Now they have 15 crew and 10 rooms, which additionally doesn't warrant the 150m size.

f) Why are some categories gone completely? If heralds were so fond of swarming with fighters, surely they would have had carriers for them?

g) Why are frigates and drones taking up so much hangar space? The space cost was doubled without the carriers getting more slots or the fighters becoming a lot more powerful effectively meaning that it's unprofitable to support these small scale ships any more.

h) Why is it good that the initial starting credits are now super low and you can only get them back by taking really extremely dangerous drawbacks? Shouldn't titles be just that? Titles f merit? Why are you forced to pick some of them if you want to build a good ship? Wouldn't it make more sense for jobs to award the big money and titles to award discounts?

g) Why can't backgrounds be less faction driven like they were? Why no more free crew members or abilities why only tiny discounts?
