ITT: Make one minor adjustment to a bad card to make it good.
>Splinterfright
>Toughness is *+1.
>>44272986
You're welcome.
>>44273070
>Cards in ALL graveyards
I don't even play EDH and that gets me hard.
>>44272986
That wouldn't make it good.
>>44273070
That would.
Make Divine Light an instant and it suddenly becomes busted.
>>44272986
>rally abilities last until your next upkeep
this would make new allies so good
>no longer taps to add a charge counter.
>>44273340
>9 mana to win the game
You broke it. Modern standards are 11 mana to win the game.
With that rarity, we need something less painful.
>>44273514
It could have been a flat lose 1 life or something.
Surprisingly, Painful Truths is seeing play now.
As in, a foil painful truths is fucking $20 now... I think I threw one into my jank pile
>>44273632
?
???
I thought this was the way the card read and had planned a super janky deck that killed by leaving only Phage in the Pool, then I read the card again and was sad.
>>44273689
Don't worry, just flash teferi into play EOT, drop a sixth source and play knowledge pool.
Insta lockdown.
>>44273797
Turn 3 kill. Seems totally fair and balanced
>Green effect.
>On a creature.
>Lets make it black!
Fuck you Wizards.
>>44273395
Shitty art fail. Planer Chaos Frame FTW!
Also works for several dozens other red cards.
>>44273866
Words are for losers.
>>44273824
The only difference between this being a Green card and a Black card is that you gain life instead of lose it.
>>44273902
>tfw tibalt becomes a $60 modern 3-4 of staple with tihs minor change
>>44273902
You mean:
>+1: Target player draws a card, then discards a card at random.
>>44273922
Its literally the exact same effect as a couple of green cards, Momentous Fall and Lifes Legacy. The only difference is those are instants and sorcerys respectively.
>>44273632
There, I made the card ten times better.
>>44273553
>surprisingly
>turn 3 draw 3 in standard
It was only a matter of time.
>>44274133
Took me awhile, well played
>>44274110
So they take a card that is almost strictly worse than terminate, then make it sorcery speed.
>>44274340
Evasion.
>>44274383
>Almost strictly worse
>-x/-x
>self mill
nigger what, I know its not a good card that should've been instant speed but what
Enchantment with "Tap:................. Play as an interrupt"
>>44274047
It was ALSO a creature, so it was so green it circled around the color wheel to black.
>>44274453
nigger interrupts are dead
just put it on an isochron scepter
>>44274453
>enchantment with a tap ability
>>44274512
Hey I don't want it to be TOO overpowered.
>>44274512
There is one, from Future Sight, but still.
i often pray for them to print a 1/1 blood artist, i was so happy when i saw zulaport cut throat, till a read it a second time.
Replace "discard" with "draw"
>>44273632
To make this 10x better I would make it say
"You may cast non-land cards from all of your zones without playing their mana costs".
>>44274568
Why a 1/1 specifically?
Also, you know there's a 2/2 flying one from INN?
>>44274512

>>44274729
>using future-shifted future sight cards as precedent
>>44272986
Replace the effect with:
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control three or more Mountains, put a 5/5 Dragon token into play.
There. Red at it's finest.I wish Wizards would make fun sets.
>>44274801
They've used a few mechanics from future sight. Scry being the most notable.
>TFW I'm never going to assemble two contraptions instead of one
It hurts to live.
>>44274977
>scry
>from futuresight
>or even from time spiral
m8
>>44274977
scry was in mirrodin m8
>>44273632
Omniscience's description reeks of fedora
Trample
>>44275560
Giving all of those a keyword or +1/+1 would be good.
They're terrible now, in Creatures: the Tappening.
We have rare 5/5s for four with UPSIDES.
>>44274886
Even better
Try to make this card better. I don't know how.
"that many plus one."
>>44276102
>Discard all the cards in your hand, then draw TWICE that many cards.
>>44276052
>>44276244
Turn 4 game winner? Nice.
>>44274886

>>44276372
+
>>44276244
=Best dragon deck ever.
>>44276442
>what are jokes
Don't hate the game
>>44276731
I feel like this version of the card must have existed at some point in the design and they scrapped it because they were afraid it was too pushed or something. The mana cost, the way the ability is worded, it just makes sense this way.
>>44277072
The WUBRG ability used to return it to your hand. Turns out that's basically a repeatable time walk in creatures: the smashening
>>44277105
Did R&D actually come out and say that? Because WWUUBBRRGG in one turn can also buy you a Progenitus... or just make target opponent lose the game. That doesn't seem broken at all. If WUBRG just returned it to your hand it would still be one of the worst rares ever printed.
>>44276223
...so it forces a tie whenever a dragon attacks?
Should probably be "you may put..." or "Whenever a Dragon you controlled at the start of your turn/ start of your combat phase..."
>>44277218
umm no?
>>44277218
A creature that is put onto the battlefield tapped and attacking never actually "attacks". It is attacking when it appears. It's like a land that enters the battlefield tapped. It didn't tap when it entered, it appeared already tapped.
>>44276770
Fortunately everyone matches. No cost.
>>44276052
A simple fix, still not a great card but not worthless.
Just give it haste.
>>44277124
>tfw your name is rob
Moonsilver spear
Make it an ability where you pay 2 and have it come in tapped and attacking. Also make it a Legendary Artifact.
Isn't it amazing that there exist creature cards in this game that if you gave them +1/+1 AND reduced their cost by a mana they would still be garbage?
>>44279168
>In a set where higher average card CMC was a theme if you wanted to win clashes
>lowering CMC
The card itself, stat and ability wise are fairly poor, but if it was a full powered goblin 6 drop at common in the same set as clash limited would suffer a little.
That said the card is still total garbage, but not totally inexcusably so.
>>44276513
Wow, I am having so much fun with these jokes, I am gonna put a 0 mana cost on omniscience, it is going tobe the best joke ever, right? because it is extremely OP, therefore it is funny, right?
>>44273114
Lord of Extinction makes me cream my pants.
>>44273328
jesus, that would be the pinnacle of my ramping deck
>>44275040
>>44275412
Im sorry. Im dumb.
>>44276372
I would be ok with this if it nuked all the tokens it made when it died.
>>44277140
This standard is so slow, anything is possibru
>>44274568
Why? Just because it's not a vampire
>>44283453
Zulaport only sees your own creatures' deaths. Still a boon to the kinds of decks that wanted a second Blood Artist in commander, though.
>>44276052
Damn it, just...just damn it. They're obviously still printing cards for Extended, if this had butted up against the DTG RG Dragons deck it would have been glorious.
>>44273951
6 and you win the game.
Fiery Impulse would be a good card if it could target the face.
I'm actually mad that they didn't do it like that. Shock is too weak and Bolt too strong: a Fiery that can hit face would have been perfect power level.
Playing Duels (where both of these are in the same format) really made me wish they would be one card that has the abilities of both, instead of two lame cards. That would be fair.
>>44276965
Isnt that just a black bear?
wait a minute
>>44274311
It sees play in Modern too because Junk and Jund can use it to refill their hand against Combo/Control match ups. It's not really good against Fast decks like Burn but it's still an excellent card.
It's depressing that the best Draw spell in years isn't blue.
>>44285588
This same treatment works on a lot of shitty cards.
>>44285588
Nah, Steam Augury just needs to ahve the same text as Fact or Fiction
>>44285316
Yeah, it seems like the perfect time to rotate out shock for "shock with benefits" like possibly being a Lightning bolt.
>>44285667
I actually don't like FoF because casting it is completely brainless to the caster. All the relevant decisions are made by the opponent. Steam Augury's is a much better designed effect, which is why it pisses me off so much that it's overcosted by at least 50%, maybe even more.
A blast from the past. Even back in 1994 when this came out people were going "why did they ruin this with one last line?"
>>44285780
>it's overcosted by at least 50%
You are going to draw at least 2 cards. 3 cmc is the least I could accept.
>>44286019
>A blue wrath of god
This card would be ridiculously broken.
>>44285628
>ruse cruise
>sphinx revelation
>>44286301
Spider Queen 5GG
Creature - Spider
Reach, Deathtouch
When Spider Queen enters the battlefield, put four 1/2 green Spider creature tokens with reach and deathtouch onto the battlefield.
2/4
>>44286352
Would be a much better and balanced card.
>>44285934
how about
tap: choose two target blocking creatures an opponent controls. all creatures blocked by one are removed fom combat and then blocked by the other creature.
>>44276052
"Whenever a dragon you control attacks put X 6/6 dragon creature tokens with flying onto the battlefield where X is the number of dragons you control."
>>44286416
>All players draw three cards
>>44286416
It's funny cause its still broken
>>44286253
one of them isn't played in any format and the other isn't playable in any format. but i guess you're right that ruse cruise is better, it just sucks nobody can use it.
>>44286411
Because that's not what Sorrow's Path does. The oracle text of Sorrow's Path is:
>{T}: Choose two target blocking creatures an opponent controls. If each of those creatures could block all creatures that the other is blocking, remove both of them from combat. Each one then blocks all creatures the other was blocking.
>Whenever Sorrow's Path becomes tapped, it deals 2 damage to you and each creature you control.
>>44286185
no its balanced
shut up
>>44285646
>>44286547
The funny thing is that this card wouldn't even be used in infect decks. Four mana, no evasion, not worth it.
>>44286585
I have that card.
>>44286547
And this one.
>>44286352
Do spiders have queens?Your version is more balanced and fits the color pie better.
>>44286514
not realy minor, but i would of like that card.
>Whenever Sorrow's Path becomes tapped, it deals 2 damage to you and each creature you control.
I think "2 damage to each of your creatures" is balance enough. also, you might word it so its not hiting you when it taps for mana
>>44286663
Well in this universe a tiny death touch chameleon can kill a eldrazi devestator so spiders having queens wouldn't be much more of a stretch.
>>44286706
put a consuming aberration in your deck
>>44286706
Nah. 2UU, maaaaybe 4U, 1UU is when you're limited to A) your own stuff and B) only creatures. Stolen Identity is probably the best costed Cipher card of the bunch, honestly - it's not costed THAT far off from just the base effect. It just needs a mana shaved off and maybe shuffled around to higher amounts of U for the potential for repeatability.
>>44285936
I like this way more
>>44286855
Put a 2/2 White Soldier creature token with vigilance into play.
>>44287002
Useless outside Tarkir block constructed.
>>44287002
>Destroy all green and blue non-land permanents
>destroy all red, white, and colorless non-land permanents
>>44287079
BUT THE FLAVOR.
Also, with the way Magic works, it doesn't care what set something was originally printed in - if a card was printed in that set it's being destroyed (Summit Prowler gets murdered no matter what you pick, for example)
>>44287142
I'd rather not dig through Gatherer for every card on the battlefield.
>>44286585
m8 this card was actually pretty good in 1995
>>44274047
Shut the fuck up, wizards might hear. I need more green cards in my Marchesa deck
>>44285316
This might be fine in standard, but in modern? 8 bolts is too many
>>44272986
I don't if this is considered a minor change but PUT THE OLD SLIVER DESIGN!
>>44289834
I know how you feel. I prefer to never see a sliver reprint again if that was the price. the only neat thing was that they only boost your own.
>>44290060
Once I finish acquiring the ones I want, I plan on finding someone to edit the art on them to be oldstyle. Because fuck neosliver art.
>>44290060
>>44290277
I do like that neoslivers affect your board, mirror matches were a nightmare. But fuck that art, good thing WotC realize their mistake.
>>44289353
Like Wizards cares about keeping Modern balanced. Modern is the new Legacy.
>>44273902
Still worse than Jace and Merfolk Looter.
>>44276223
Probably should specify nontoken dragons.
>>44285422
Why does a school of eels draw you cards when you summon it?
Why does an owl get stronger the more you cast spells?
>>44292414
Magic.
Magic.
Also eels don't school normally. Nor fly.
For actual flavor analysis:
>They swim on tides few can see, away from a threat few yet understand.
You're gleaning information from how and where they are moving.
>The owls learn of mana from the mages who know it best.
It knows how spells work, maybe, and learns from you casting things how to better use magic-stuffs.
>>44272986
I wouldnt change a thing about splinterfright. I have a deck centered around it.
>>44277124
More like this please.
>>44292414
Schools are where you learn.
Duh.
You discard a card because eels are shitty teachers.
>>44273855
Needs
Split second
>>44274629
Remove (3) from mana Cost
This card stands out to me as one of the worst cards designed in a long long time
if you reduced the cost by 2 it's still awful
>>44287002
Search each players library for... Exile them
>>44294355
Horrible
Make it a 1 drop, remove the life cost on regenerate
>>44294464
That might make it too good, with Bushido 2.
>>44294464
>1 drop that becomes a 3/3 when blocked
>Regenerates for B
Sure man, also give it trample and annihilator 2
>>44294355
At what point does it become acceptable?
Costs 1B
>OR
3/3, no Bushido
>OR
No life cost to regenerate
>>44295308
Remove life cost, 1B cost, 1B to regenerate, 2/2 with Bushido 1
>>44294355
3B
Death strike
Pay 1 life, regen
>>44289834
Pay 1, Flying Sliver becomes an enchantment attached to target creature you control. That creature becomes a sliver in addition to it's other types.
>>44286585
All red creatures you control attack as though they have battlecry
>>44286301
Flying, First strike, infect
When Hornet Queen enters the battlefield, put 4 2/2 Hornet tokens with first strike, infect, and defender.
If hornet queen would be destroyed, sacrifice a hornet token and prevent all damage to hornet queen.
3/3
>>44276372
1R
If all lands you control are mountains put a 3/3 dragon token with flying onto the battlefield at the beginning of your upkeep.
3: Exile Dragon Master outcast, any player may use this ability.
>>44298312
Make the exile ability 5 and that's a solid card
>>44276052
Add the ability
Sacrifice a dragon you control, tap; Deal 6 damage to target creature or player.
>>44298324
Then it should also be a legend.
Still though it seems a bit harsh to make it 5, if you get it out on round 2, you'll get 2-3 3/3 flying tokens out on the field before the other player can even do anything about it.
Also, fuck these copy+paste code captchas
>>44298362
Legend is good idea.
Actually, you're right. Maybe 2R, with 5 for exile.
>>44279168
Goblin Hoodlums can't block.
At the beginning of your upkeep flip a coin. If heads, deal 2 damage to each opponent. If tails, target creature gets -4/-2 until end of turn.
>>44273866
Harmonize
1GGG
All players draw cards until they have 6 cards in hand.
All players life totals become the same as the player who cast this card.
>>44273632
This is a 20$ legacy staple, I do not think this is a bad card
>>44273328
Tap a creature you control: add a charge counter
Remove 5 charge counters; put a 5/5 Titan with trample onto the battlefield.
>>44275560
Jade leeches
Jade Leeches can't attack or block.
Green spells cost G more to cast.
Shroud
At the beginning of your upkeep all players lose life equal to the amount of forests you control.
1/3
>>44286301
It's perfect as is though.
>>44286301
Flying, death touch
When Hornet Queen enters the the battlefield put x 2/2 hornet tokens with flying an death touch where x is the amount of Forests tapped to play this card.
2/4
>>44298507
That could end up being ridiculously overpowered with Intruder Alarm.
I love this card, but, in constructed, it comes into play way too fucking late to matter. Having to attack with a 4/4 starting on turn 7 without any sort of evasion is just asking to get it killed. It'll end up doing absolutely nothing. And, if you somehow manage to land an attack, you're most likely already winning, anyway. This is the definition of win more (and thus makes the card shit).
>>44298905
I'd say drop it to 1WB, make it a 1/4 and make it only artefact or enchantments
>>44298627
Remove 5 charge counters, put a 10/10 legendary Titan token with trample onto the battlefield.
>>44298905
Treasury Thrull
2bw
Extort
Whenever you use extort put a charge counter on treasury Thrull.
Remove 3 counters: Put target card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
>>44298905
>>44298931
Or this, I guess. Maybe drop it to 2WB and be a 3/4 or a 3WB and make is as a 3/5, instead of 4/4.
With Treasury Thrull this way, if you're behind, you get to create some attrition by getting back dead blockers, having a big blocker and draining at least 1 life each turn.
