Roll20 is a shithole. The WoD/CofD community are the fucking apex of terrible on that site. The majority of GM's there are people who should be legitimately shot and thrown into a ditch.
>>
>>44244177
Who hurt you this way Anon? Do you need to talk about it?
>>
>>44244177
>The WoD/CofD community are the fucking apex of terrible on that site.
I keep hearing that, but I've 1) Not actually seen that many CoDa/WoD games on there and 2) Those I've played in were pretty okay though one player - despite being cool otherwise - seems overly worried that the dots he dropped on Contacts, Allies etc are being invalidated by the story.

So tell me, what's the issue with them?
>>
>>44244177
This, unfortunately.

WoD community is reaching new lows by the week on that site. Doesn't help that it also has turned so cliquish it's not even funny.

Also, the Warhammer games are there all run by sperglords.
>>
>>44244253
>Also, the Warhammer games are there all run by sperglords.
It's primarily a Wargame, I'm not sure what else you'd find there. If L5R were more popular or MtG got an RPG the situation would be no different; TCG and Wargame players are, unfortunately, the spergiest of spergs this side of the Beat 'em Up crowd.
>>
>>44244145
>Does anyone actually enjoy playing via webcam as opposed to just voice?
Yes. I like to see people's faces and the visual cues make it easier to speak, defer and gauge reactions. Conversation is also a visual language.
>>
>>44244274
I mean the whole Warhammer tag.

DH games are either slow beyond belief or the people running it know nothing about Warhammer apart from "there is space and aliens". WH Fantasy is pretty much non-existant. I don't play the wargame online.
>>
I'm new to Roll20, is there any recommended macros for GMs?

Are these the Hipster Games of the Month or what?

>I mean the whole Warhammer tag.
As did I.
>or the people running it know nothing about Warhammer apart from "there is space and aliens".
That sounds even worse than I thought.
> I don't play the wargame online.
Nor did I imply that. What I'm saying is that a Wargame-based RPG will have at least some crossover with Wargamers, and that Wargamers are usually awful.

Two of them are asian enough that people assume they can play Cloud Sephiroth or whatever, so there's a lot of demand, and the other two... fuck if I know. Why the fuck do people like ORE games?
>>
>>44244480
>Why the fuck do people like ORE games?
Crunchy enough for builds to be important and fast enough for combat to flow really well. It's not ideal for everything (no system is), but for rules-medium approaches it's quite useful.
>>44244442
>L5R

You don't get to call Hipster on something that's being continually discussed, anon.

>You don't get to call Hipster on something that's being continually discussed, anon.

They're not D&D, Warhammer, Shadowrun or other top 10 mainstream games, so yeah, they're hipster niche RPGs.

Honestly, I've never seen the point of Roll20 for games that don't require a virtual tabletop of some kind. I play in a D&D 4e game using it, but for things like LotW it seems faster, easier and more convenient to use IRC channels and dicebots.

Logs. IRC networks are notoriously unstable.

What do you need logs for?

>>44245360
Carving kayaks
>>
>>44245210

Even with that, I have all my logs as backed up text files, and if I disconnect I can just update them from another players. It can be annoying at times, but having them all available as text files seems more reliable than Roll20's stuff.

>>44245360

Session logs are one of the biggest benefits of text based gaming, IMO. It's slower than voice and you lose out on some elements like tone of voice and non-verbal communication, but in exchange you can put more work into descriptions and have those descriptions remain. In vocal RP, forgetting what happened is a real issue, even if it's just a small detail nobody can remember. With a test based RP, you just ctrl+f back through the logs and any detail can be recalled. It's really handy.
>>
>>44245360
>What do you need logs for?
...what? Really? Have you TRIED making sense of a long-running campaign after the fact?

Tell me about the diamonds in the rough, senpai.

Tell me about the DMs or players that blew you away on Roll20. The types that were knowledgeable, sociable, and loose enough with the rules to make it feel like a friendly romp, rather than a 4-5 hour chore.
>>
I keep hearing all kinds of shit about Roll20, but apart from it, is there even another good way of finding games online?
>>
>>44245483
www.penandpapergames.com
www.obsidianportal.com
enworld.org player registry
>>
>>44245483

It's a bit of an overreaction to call Roll20 shit.

It's popular, and like any popular thing it's going to be stuffed with mediocrity or just terrible crap, but there are still plenty of great campaigns on it if you know where to look.

It gets easy to figure out the good from bad, too. DMs that have comprehensive character creation rules or background stickies are good, as are the players that can string together a paragraph or three expressing interest and what they want to play.

Let me guess, this is one of those "living world" settings where they aim for bulk, not quality.
>>

Perhaps they aren't.

I was in a game where there was a single GM and about 18-20 people. He tried running a coherent story, but the game died out after we went through 2 sessions where we were just trying to hide from gunfire, while two other PCs where members of the people shooting.

I have a slightly updated version of this zip file here:

However, I expect to expand it with another ~50 or so anime tokens once my GM uploads all of *their* anime tokens.

My game is mainly played with a group that can't always make it for every campaign, but I want o keep their characters so I have a maximum of 20 players or something for my roll 20.

At any one time I'm never playing with more than 8 people at once though,

Maybe it's just me but groups that big, even just 8, always seem like way too many.

In my experience the optimal roleplaying experience is 5, 4 players and a GM. 3 players can work but it's a bit small, 6 can work without getting crowded depending on the system, but going above that just seems to get clusterfucky.

Are any of you guys planning a text only campaign through roll20, I'd be interested in doing some Dark heresy, Rogue Trader or Shadow of The Demon Lord if anybody runs that, It's been too long since I got my RP on
>>
>>44245909
I'm considering jumping ship and taking the few players I know will be dedicated, and starting a new Roll20 with a maximum of 6 or so.

I'm about to start my new Achtung! Cthulhu campaign with at least 9 people with created characters and I'm just hoping some of them can't make the first session so I have an excuse to leave them out.
>>
>>44245939
Is there a reference I'm losing here or is it good ol' traditional shitposting?
>>
>>44245952
nah m8 it was just shitposting, I'm pretty lucky to actually have a group of friends to play with as opposed to having to look for anonymous fags on the roll20 forums to find a game.

I've spent the last year GMing a game of Call of Cthulhu for a group of dudes I met through Roll20, and by god it's been the most fun I've had in a long time. We're incompetent, we screw everything up, but by god if we don't put 100% into that game.
>>
>>44245909
I agree with 5, but even just 2 players and a GM is good enough most of the time. Some of the most awesome games I've taken part in have been me and another guy and a GM. It's a lot more intimate and with that you're usually on the same page most of the time.

Do we have a simple enough application to throw images in and have it automatically border, crop, and save them for use that isn't tokentools?

I would prefer to not have to do it by hand for a large volume of images, and for whatever reason Tokentools just isn't co-operating with me.
