Excited flamer drones addition

Hello everyone and welcome to ShitterNormie's Machine Civ part 2!
>What's happening in the civ Shitter?
Excellent question anon! We are the head AI of a group of drones and multi-purpose machines. Remember anon...if the main AI is destroyed the civ is lost!
>Where are we Shitter?
We are located in the side of a volcano. Our base (which can be given a new name) was built by our old masters: The gnomes. They're dead now because of orcs. But here we are! We are a large super computer that is position in the center of the main room of the volcano-side base. So far the current rooms we have are 1 door leading to the outside world, 1 drone building facility, 1 machine building facility, 1 steel mine, 1 generator room, and 2 locked rooms.
>Did anything memorable happen Shitter?
Of course anon! We managed to unlock the generator room and can now upgrade it, #6 was taught country music, we attempted to make contact with the gnolls, prepared for a troll hunt with some flamer drones, got some maintenance drones, and found out that we hated orcs!
>How do I get started!?!?!?
Just suggest two actions at the end of the IMMEDIATE CHECKUP. All choices' success will be determined by a 1d20 roll that I will do on my desk and tell you guys. (Rolled 15,2)

I missed thread 2, sadly, but I'm glad to see this civ still going.
>>
>>44215434
Look in to researching the memory files and start developing defences
>>
>Repair Generator
>Research Troll weakspots.
>>
>>44215510
Welcome anon! I'm just glad to see that people are still playing. Also, upgrading our generator will require most, if not all, of our metal. Well, unless you get a high roll
>>
>>44215547
We already have one machine gun turret but if you want more that's fine
>>44215555
We know that trolls are weak to fire as we saw the gnolls chasing them away with torches
>>
>>44215596
Well in that case... developing more defenses might be worthwhile instead.
Can we build a flamethrower turret to compliment the machine gun one?
>>
>>44215569
We can always get more metal later.
I stand by my earlier post. Our defenses are adequate for right now, we need to focus on tech and power.
>>
>>44215569
Repair generator.
>>
>>44215630
Sure. The turrets are basically drones that have much larger versions of their current weapon and are mounted to the ground. They sport no intellect other than their basic functions
>>
(Rolled 16,1)

As upkeep and defense has been your primary focus so far you decide that that's what you should stick to. The machines are instructed to upgrade the generator and find something rather peculiar when they open the generator's second hatch. The skeleton of an orc wedged between the gears of your generator. It seems like orcs will find a way to pester you...even in death. The skeleton is removed from the gears and in the process you find a key lodged into his skull. Seems like your old master was quite skilled in combat. A master keysman if you will. (+1 generator level, +1 power level, +1 key, -30 steel, -5 copper) It comes across your mind that you have a turret that can deal with orcs but now troll-related defense. Some grabber drones are told to build a heavy flamer turret and fail miserably. As it turns out pincers aren't very good at building. Why do you keep forgetting this? (-1 flamer drone, -5 steel)

Yeah that's what theyr'e for. Also since I'm assuming that most of you weren't in the last thread so I'll also say this: whenever we approached the gnoll village they chased us away. Maybe a gift for them would make them accept us...or we could just kill them. We did see them killing orcs though
>>
>>44215952
... did we send number 6 to play country to appease them? Cause even if we did and it didn't work I feel we should do it again. Just watch his misfortune y'know? Not necessarily immediately, but sort term plans.

(Rolled 15,19)

Since building turrets didn't work as well as you had hoped you decide to delve deep within your artificial mind. Many things are still clouded but one thing becomes very clear. EYE DRONE UNLOCKED. Up until this point you have had no way of knowing about anything your drones do outside the base of what goes on outside the base in general. This drone allows you to see through it's single, large lens. The eye drone can also project your voice but it is useless for anything else. While you were meditating #6 decided to make a decision of his own and open one of the locked doors. #6 was immediately punished with 15 zaps to his rear circuit board. He cried like a little kobold. Within the locked room was a new building facility as well as two large machines. These two new machines looked a lot like metallic bison that have two small, slender arms erupting from their back. They also have many storage compartments inside of them and seem very durable. (-1 key, +Machine of Burden builder)

>>
>>44216531
#6 screwed up a lot and knows country music. Also people kept requesting that he be bullied. I like it. It adds flavor

(Rolled 5,7)

A thought goes through your data files that makes you wonder. Do gnolls like music? Honestly you do not know...maybe you can figure that out. You call #6 and ask him to go sing to the gnolls all by himself. He rudely calls you an "Abusive tyrant of a head A.I." and that you "Only pick on him all the time even though he didn't do anything wrong". He'll get over it but for the moment he won't go. If singing to the gnolls is out of the question you might as well talk to them in person. You sen your grabber drones to build an eye drone and they succeed. At the cost of WAY more resources than they initially needed. What a waste. (+1 eye drone, -30 steel, -10 copper)

Your grabber drones are not proving their worth and have let you down on many occasions (muttering) especially #6. To make up for their resource spending you decide to send your machines and machines of burden into the mines to mine for more metals. The machines of metal do extremely well and add a nice boost for mining (equivalent to +3 to a roll). (+75 steel, +25 copper). Finding new ways to improve your grabber drones seems to be key so you look into it a bit. (Research 10%). Before you can finish your turret detects a something approaching your base. It seems to be a little gnoll that is being chased by a troll. Perhaps you can help the little one and kill the troll. Then again, you could also ignore her and get back to your own projects.

And then, on the day when they're most vulnerable, we shove them down the stairs.

A troll at your front door is not something that should be taken lightly and your turret knows this. It immediately begins pelting the troll as the little gnoll hides behind a rock. The bullets do little to the troll other than slow it down and is quickly gains ground. Luckily, you have 15 flamer drones. They excitedly rush out and begin roasting the troll alive. "OH BOY I SURE DO LOVE COOKING TROLLS!" "YES YES YES!" "NOTHING LIKE BURNING A BODY TO WAKE UP YOUR SENSORS!" "BURNT BURNY BURNY!" Theyr'e just as excited as always. Soon the troll is nothing more than a charred husk and your flamer drones quickly locate and surround the little gnoll. "ARE YOU A TROLL?" "WE BURN TROLLS!" "TROLLS BURN REALLY GOOD!" "YEP YEP YEP!" To prevent your flamer drones from roasting the poor thing you send out your eye or to comfort it. "Hello there dearie. How are you doing today?" "..." Responds the gnoll. "Right...can you come with me so we may ask you some questions?" "........no....." "Oh come on dearie! My drones just saved your life! Surely you can just answer a few questions for me. It's getting dark as well. You can spend the night if you want..." ".....I don't know........I heard daddy saying bad things about the flying plates..." "We won't hurt you we promise" "oh okay then.....daddy's going to kill me...." (+1 roasted troll corpse, +1 little gnoll girl) while this was going on your machines tampered around in your memory files and helped research along. (25% research) what would you like to ask the gnoll girl...or would you like to do something else?

Second question: what does the troll taste like?" "Tastes like charted meat. What did you think it tasted like? Chicken?" "Haha who would ever think that?....next question. What are your people's current position?" "The gnolls as a people are in a tough spot. The Orcs in the northern plains are constantly trying to raid and kill us, the trolls that live here are quite the hazard, the point-ears in the eastern forest refuse to talk to us and shoot at us if we even attempt to approach them, and the crabmen to the south are too busy to notice us. Life as a gnoll isn't easy. At least you metal guys aren't hostile." "Good to know. Next question: what resources can you provide?" "We have an iron mine in our village. It isn't as tough as whatever you're made of but its metal." "What do you think of #6's singing?" "The singing metal plate? It's okay. I've heard better" (distant electronic crying) "Alright that's all I wanted to know. We'll send you back with the troll on our machine of burden." "I appreciate it. What's your name by the way?" If all efforts are focused towards this it can be done. The gnolls will give you a week to prepare for the attack. If everything is focused towards this battlesuit it will be finished in time. (For balance purposes it will have a limited power supply and will take a LONG time to recharge once used)

>>44219199
Yeah, a personal chassis might eventually be cool... perhaps even a couple... (One big intimidating and decked with weapons for combat, one fairly humanoid for diplomatic purposes with a longer battery life.) it isn't neccesarily the most important immediately. We got burny droids to deal with trolls specifically if I recall, so making those better during this time would probably be optimal in my opinion.

>>44219223
I think the better safe than sorry approach would be best here, but it really depends on the tactical assessment

With the rest of your troops returned from the meeting with the gnolls you begin to prepare. Using all sorts of scrap that has been laying around the base you have managed to upgrade all existing grabber drones to advanced grabber drones. (-15 steel, -5 copper, no scrap in the base, +1 level of cleanliness). While this has been going on you task your machines and yourself with researching upgrades for the flamer drones. The researching goes astoundingly well and much progress is made. At the moment there are two different paths that the framers can go down:
>flamethrowers are replaced with corrosive acid spitters. Effective against flesh and metal
>higher-degree flamethrowers that spray gasoline and oil all over their target thus, making them more flammable

>Discussion Point: Corrosive Acid vs Flamethrowers.

Flamethrowers provide a greater degree of tactical flexibility. Longer duration area denial, along with the intentional creation of firestorms, smoke and other effects outweighs the increased damage against wider variety of targets.

Hmm. I think more fire is in order. I'm not sure on the effectiveness of acid on trolls... and unless we encounter a separate faction of machines, acid spitters just sound like a liability. At least at the moment. I'm sure we can do research on that at a later point if it becomes prudent.

Since your enemy at the moment is weak to fire the most logical thing would be to have strong fire drones. Research is continued and finished (12+5=17. Needed 15 to finish this turn) (Inferno drones unlocked) The inferno drones spray white hot flames, gasoline, and oil all at the same time while still retaining their iconic excitable attitude. #6 is also taught a new genre of music: The power ballad. The power ballad will be played during fights and greatly increases the moral of all friendly units.

>>

There's a difference between having a good work ethic and threatening/attacking neutral/friendly targets.
We are quite literally playing with fire here. We need to make sure that while our soldiers will follow our orders with due ferocity, they will not step out of line. A good military needs discipline.
>>
>>44219845
Their incredibly disciplined, they're programmed to burn things well and love doing so. Programming them not to do so would take out a lot of their charm.
>>
>>44219884
I have no problem with them burning things well.
I have no problem with them loving their job.
The problem arises when they cook something that would be of more use to us raw.
Attacking a non-target shows a COMPLETE lack of discipline.

You know how to upgrade your flamer bots so why not just do it now? The battle is approaching rapidly anyways. All of the regular flamer bots are upgraded into inferno bots with absolutely astoundingly low resource consumption. (-10 steel, -5 copper). Their personality a were also changed to recognize gnolls as allies and to not set them of fire. They are more or less still the same though. Since almost all of our troops will be leaving the base unattended soon we should bake it less recognizable. A gigantic metal door with a shiny metal turret outside is a little obvious after all. Thanks to the grabbers' upgraded bodies the project goes smoothly. Rocks from the surrounding area are piled around the door to make it look more like a crag in the rock. A dried up bust is re-planted in a way where the turret is inside of it and looks just like a bush. 1 day left

>>44219922

I see vast potential in an Inferno Drone Kamikaze Suicide variant.

The Inferno Drone overzealous "problem" can be solved with a change of their deployment. Withhold them from noncombat operations and utilize them as a dedicated combat force, retaining their tenacious programming while limiting unfortunate carbonization of potential allies. .

exactly! there is literally no downside to having a special group of bots deployed only when all else fails to make sure the enemy sustains heavy losses, especially since they could be made less sturdy/armored in favor of pure offensive output, as they only care about the Joy of Cooking

I'm starting to feel like you guys don't know that the machines are an actual unit and not just a term used for all units. The machines look like>>44215424
and are capable of doing more complex things than a drone can. They're smarter, are less menacing/eerie for other races, and they can use actual weapons. Each type of unit has it's own building machine/station
>>
>>44220236
can they utilize the drones as a form of weaponry? such as using an inferno bot as a flamethrower? and can they specialize in a specific skill, to act as a sort of leader for drone squads?
>>
>>44220182
Sounds good to me.

Has #6 accidentally become the civilizations bard? He's doing good at the moment... but one slip up is all it will take. One slip up and our eventual chassis will literally kick him in the rear, and then probably pick him up and give him a hug. Cause I'm liking the abusive Mother dynamic we're building with him.

>>44220236
Also: Oh. Well then.

>Kit one or two of the multi-purpose machines with flamethrowers and arm them with shields instead of rehearsing combat.

I was thinking the machines were like factory machines, and we could set them up to build different things.
>>
(Rolled 18,7)

Before you attack the trolls you feel like you should investigate said place. You deploy your eye drone to spy on the troll lair and find out a lot. The trolls live in a wide, downwards sloping cave that seems pretty steep if you're coming out of it. Instead of the 24 trolls we were told about we spotted 30 trolls and the 1 alpha troll. The alpha troll's skin looked rock hard, and craggy. Maybe flamethrowers won't be as effective against him. Flamethrowers are given to the machines. The flamethrowers are only regular ones and not inferno ones mind you. (-20 steel, -10 copper)
