Bethesda.

Designing the mechanical framework of a roleplaying game system, I think.

fan fiction, Mr. Secret Hitler.

Basically just winging it.
>>
Allowing players into your world to destroy it.
>>
>>44214176
You take everything good about the world and tear it apart. Afterwards, you close the book on the now destroyed setting and watch people slowly forget about it over time.

Is it much of a Secret if we know it's Hitler?
>>
>>44214176
World-destroying is the obvious answer, but in terms of RPG design I'd say the antithetical practice is "story improvising"

Deconstruction?
>>
>>44214176
You mean where you try to extrapolate about a setting by examining everything known about it looking for holes?

Deconstruction.

Thank you.

Enjoy your glib facsimile.

>We knew the world would not be the same. Few people laughed, few people cried, most people were silent - and I remembered the Hindu scripture of Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the prince to do his duty, and to persuade him, he took on his multi-armed form, and says: "Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds". I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.

Using a real life setting.
>>
You disregard all the cool opportunities you set up in the first story and retcon things for no reasons in favor of "YO DAWG WOULDN'T THIS SHIT BE COOL" for the second story

Wizards of the Coast.
>>
>>44214176
Everything bracking it's own back to fit the plot. The universe just stops existing the moment you step away from the main characters.

Examples would be Kingdom Hearts or Sword Art Online.
>>
>>44227063
Bit fitting everything around the characters isn't strictly a bad thing
>>
>>44227186
There's a difference between "the main character is the centerpiece of the story and the lynchpin of the plot" and "nothing matters but what the main character is doing.
>>
>>44214176
What a player does when they make a PC.

That is, "making a character that specifically goes against all established setting details because I'm a shitty player who wants a special snowflake weredonkey celestial gunslinger in a game about genies."
>>
>>44214176
Taking a setting, then making your campaign a crossover between it and Sonic or ponies. Or both.

You are a player.

Your DM has poured their heart, soul, and hours upon hours of their life into creating a rich and vibrant realm for your adventures to take place.

Your DM is also spineless.

Little by little, you chip away at his resolve, and insist on just "little" changes here and there to better suit your character or what you think would be cool.

Gradually, in an attempt to appease your ceaseless demands, the DM has altered their setting in its entirety. It's no longer fantasy, but sci-fi. Magic no longer exists, replaced instead with hyper-advanced technology. Elves are now purple and have no noses or ears. Dwarves are beardless, sapient robots. Wizards are cyborgs who have enhanced themselves to have precise control over a seemingly infinite supply of self-replicating nanobots.

You then inform him that his setting is shit because of the things you turned it into, and leave the game. The other players stop showing up, and the DM is broken and alone.

You have your foul victory.
