the blade and crossguard, however, are far closer to those of the Castillon hoard, dated arounf 1453, and most research now suggests the pommel has been remounted. Whether that is a 20th C forgery, or a 15th C re-mounting, is difficult to say without extensive study.

The long straight bit adds the right flex and every sword has to have a straight bit right? Those bumpy bits and that bend point? Each one is a small point for ALL the force of the swing to focus on. That swept back bit? Same idea as scimitars and katanas. A curve adds more sword edge into each cut in a short length. That notch bit near the scythe edge? Thats for hooking horse tendons. did i mention its a cavalry sword? That grip is so the sword doesn't come flying out of your hands when you hook a horse leg(just let the horse do the work and pray your spine and/or wrist doesn't break). That cross not only turns blades away the thin flat bits at the end actually cause chipping of the blade and can even disarm if they swing to hard if someone is somehow stupid enough to fuck with you. Now try wielding it properly.

Its on a viking sword forum or something. /k/ went on a crusade wracking their brains on the whole swords design. Turns out you can call up the museum and they'll just tell you whats written down in some book from some guy who was involved in someway with the swords making. Apparently it excelled at injurying wrists and wrenching the wielder from the seat and faired poorly in actual sword combat being way to tip heavy for a one handed grip.
