Topic of the thread: How're you liking Thaw of the Lich Lord, now that it's out?
>>
Anybody playing in Colorado? Or are we all too blazed or too snowsports?
>>
Digging this game.
>>
Anybody has good 'default' starter warbands?
I want to convert some henchmen, I'm not sure how I should arm them though.
>>
I just ordered this nice set for as little as 32GBP.
>>
I really wanna play this game, but uni has been draining my time since summer. Bought some LOTR army of the dead minis for nothing to use as undead, and am in the middle of making an orc warband for when I eventually get to play this. I looked through the book and couldn't find any references to base sizes. Are these irrellevant? AoS kinda made me like the bigger sound bases, but if bigger bases mean bigger footprint I'm not sure they're worth it.

Also; has anybody gotten their hands on any of the official unit boxes? The soldiers and the cultists are sexy as fuck
>>
>>44128168
Base sizes are irrelevant if you keep it reasonable.
>>
>>44128168
25mm is what comes on the stock minis.
LotR is also on 25mm so you should be good on that front.
The author mentioned in a social media post that size bases don't matter though.
>>
>>44128168
>>44128352

While i agree that 32mm bases look awesome on 40k and some Fantasy (Sigmarines) Miniatures you should keep in mind that LotR and Frostgrave miniatures are more true scale and therefore smaller.
In my opinion 32mm bases are to big for your average thugs.
Its a great way of letting your mage stick out a little bit more though.
>>
>>44128168
I've got one of each, and an extra sprue of soldiers from the kickstarter. They don't look bad, at all..

Havent't assembled them yet, though. Trying to figure out what I want 'em to be...
>>
>>44128401
An entire band of, uh, "hounds", eh?
>>
>>44127422
Who from?
>>
>>44128401
"Stole" the pic on FB, apparently they are supposed to be thugs.

>>44129194
A guy posted it on FB, the manufacturer is Redvector in UK. Just write him a message and ask for the "set of mordheim ruins".
[email protected]
>>
>>44127422
Is that blatant ripoff of the original Mordheim buildings or just a random ruins?
>>
>>44129328
I think its just random ruins made from MDF, but way cheaper than 4grounds or sarissa
>>
>>44129349
Of course, now you get to add all the detail yourself...
>>
>>44129288
Thanks. FWIW it looks like the lasercut company is Redvectors. plural.
>>
>>44129591
Its not like you would have to do that anyway. Those "cracks" they call detail at sarissa are laughable.
>>
Hm... Does anyone know of a build your own wizard kit? Something with a body or two, a bunch of heads, and some accessories to choose from?
>>
>>44129723
There are several lasercut MDF companies that are minimalist, because apparently time on the laser directly correlates to cost for them.
>>
>>44129917
GW used to have one for Empire, but that was thousands of years ago now.
>>
So what's your favorite wizard, /tg/? I haven't started yet, but for me, it sounds like enchanter or summoner is the way for me, either by buffing/grenades, or demons and possession for close combat nastiness. What's your plan?
>>
>>44130040
Its still in the online shop, and there are several for chaos and undeads as well. (with less options than the empire wizards though)

http://www.games-workshop.com/de-DE/Zauberer-des-Imperiums
>>
>>44130047
Necromancer, honestly. Minions and some DD is good enough for me, y'know?
>>
Those character kits with options were great. Now look at the recent release. A single chaos sorcerer, without a single option, but hey, lets make him a plastic sprue anyway.
>>
>>44129917
>>44130098
I second the GW kit.
Though basically any miniature you can tack a staff of could count as your wizard.
I thoroughly recommend looking at the reaper catalog too.
They easily have about a hundred of fitting miniatures.
>>
>>44130135
I like the GW kit for its providing options, but i don't like the static pose of the mages with the robes.
Red box games has some awesome characters for shamans btw

I'm looking at the reapers for my followers, along with Otherworld minis. Else, I've seen some great wizards and followers at second city games. Pic related for 2 great wiz models.

That kit seems kinda pricey. About the same as a box of soldiers, for two wizard?

That's fucking nuts...

I guess I'll try and do something with bits and the WGF minis I have sitting around.

Shame their orc heads look off on their human bodies.
>>
>>44130191
Otherworld has an awesome lich.

Then there is Hasslefree

>>
>>44121089
So from what I understand I can make a custom warband in this game.
Could I make, say, a band of time traveling elves geared in magitech-looking shit?
>>
>>44130894
Sure. Just make sure to follow the rules for the game, and you're good.
>>
>>44130894
One of the Wizard types is Chronomancer...
>>
>>44130894

Theoretically speaking, you could field a squad of space marines with a Scriptor in Terminatorarmor as your mage.

A guy i play with regularly uses his nightgoblins
>>
>>44130568
Shapeshifter. They never get the tits right.
>>
>>44130936

>>44131008
Holy shit balls mom.
Once I have some shekels to spend on miniature pieces I may just get in on this.
>>
>>44130894
>>44131103
The game gives zero fucks about what miniatures you use, I've played it with legos vs lotr elves.

Just keep in mind that it uses true line of sight, so small miniatures can hide from ranged attacks better, but this is somewhat offset by the fact that it's trickier for your own wizard to see them and cast buffs on them.
>>
>>44131194
Generally i would advise to ask your opponent before you field your squad of goblins lead by an ogre mage.
If you play with friends it should be fine.
>>
>>44130252
I got the box set on amazon for cheaper.
>>
>>44121089
anyone have the thaw of the lich lord supplement?
>>

Still sold out/restocking at my usual source
>>
How do you guys feel about the official henchman box?

And are there any other kits you think it meshes well with for more conversions?

There is the official soldiers box (which is great), and there is the official cultists box (which matches 100% with the soldiers). I assume its just as good, but i don't have it yet.

There are several options, Warhammer fantasy Empire kits work fairly well with the Frostgrave kits, as do the fireforge games kits. (pic related are fireforge foot sergeants with frostgrave crossbowmen i think).
Perry plastic foot knights or mercenaries should work too.

For more barbaric styled henchman you could try the gripping beast vikings/saxons or even GW chaos barbarians.

There are also various boxes of plastic romans and greeks if you like that particular style. (Warlord games/Wargames factory)

I prefer my usual store. Besides, ordering from the US would cost me more in shipping than the actual book. Thanks anyway
>>

Good ideas thanks.

And those guys are Fireforge but their fur cloaks were added with green stuff I believe.

>>44132250
They do not sell it on Amazon where you live?

Indeed, the fur is added with GS.

>>

I'll leave that to someone willing to run an anonymizer.
Or did you have something specific in mind?
>>
>>44134245
Send it over to the pdf share thread. they may be able to do something.
>>
>>44134309
Yeah, please do this. If you have a good copy of the main rules, could you send that, too?
>>
Yeah, does anyone have a non-shit rulebook PDF?

The commonly linked one has blank pages and split tables and stuff, I'd l to print it that's all.
>>
>>44132250
I went in at the level 5 on the latest Nickstarter, so I got everything that came with the expansion. Anything you want to know specifically?
>>
>>44130047

I recently started, but I rolled as a Thaumaturge. It's nice to keep your opponents alive, but my favorite thing to do to the other players is this combo...

1.Drop Wizard's Eye(Soothsayer) at an optimal spot, high up and covers plenty of ground

2.Hit everything, especially wizard's and ranged units with Blinding Light.

3. Use all other units and apprentice to handle objectives and enemy's warband as they desperately try to roll a high enough Will check to dispel the status effects from their wizard/apprentice.

Praise the Sun.

Not much although i'm curious what use is a mule?
>>

may carry up to three items, use an action to give an item to a model with an open slot. Models with open slots can alternatively spend an action to take an item from the mule. Models with no open slots can spend an action to swap one item for another. All this has to occur within 1" of each other.

>>
Any terrain ideas that aren't just half-timber European?
>>
>>44151726
Depends on where you want to set your 'City'
Could make a bunch of stalagmites/stalagtites cave pieces with wooden boardwalks like he Goblinking pieces in the Hobbit film.
Or maybe a Bayou or Carribean Pirate city. Lost temple city? Maybe something Dwemer or TES in general inspired? Like a Dwarven undercity.

Dunno. Really depends on where you want to set your games.
If you just want a different architectural style for your Felstad I'd look into roman or gothic styles.
>>
>>44151726
I really like the idea of a sunken city in the jungle. Maya/Aztec style.
>>
>>44152717
Was still thinking cold climate.
>>
Hmm. Paper models
>>
>>44155748
Always seemed like the poor, country cousin to me, what you use if you can't afford the alternative. No skin off my nose if people want to pursue that avenue, it can look good, but you can't beat the heft of metal miniatures.
And I'm not sure the printing and paper costs aren't comparable to a small terrain and miniature layout anyway.
>>
>>44155833
Thinking mostly to use them to pattern hardier pieces.
