Fairies are fine. Sparkletwits mostly. Oh, some are shits but no more or worse than other mortal races. But the more intelligent ones are okay.

It's the Fae you want to nope away from harder than a shadowrunner from Lofwyr holding a corp position contract.

Most often, you should never, EVER, trust a fae. In settings where faeries are fey, don't trust them.

No.

As a general rule, they wont all try to fuck you over but they all can. And even the good ones attach like 300 rules to everything and if ya break one yer fucked.

Be ridiculously careful.
>>
Pixies and fairies are different but how the fuck are you supposed to know which one is which? One will always fuck you and one will help you if possible...
>>
>>44107650
Good ones can't get rid of the bad ones and vice versa.
Thus, the good ones will get you what you ask for, then embarrass you hugely to teach you not to make deals with fairies.
The bad ones will attempt to con you out of your firstborn/soul/free will/etc.
That's how I always figured it.
Keep in mind that the 'good' ones are just as likely to not make deals or show up at all, and the 'bad' ones are probably more fond of deals like "You die, and I get to eat your face. It's win-win."

had a seperate quest about a fairy temple deep in the underground of a forest

fairies in our setting are defined as people who merged with the souls of insects and can freely change from human to half beast to beast form

we have earth-fairies (non-flying) with overall higher strength and defense in beast-form and wind-fairies with wings and high magical powers

so , the party came to the lowest level , killed dozens of oversized bugs and then stand before a young woman with a dress resembling a curled up centipede in its pattern , and antenneas on her head

>who art thou to bring war to this place of ours
>leave and never come back to this holy ground

>player rolls for initiative , attacks the girl
>she transforms into some kind of centipede centaur a la berserk
>spear bounces off, attacker gets sprayed with poison
>then comes a clusterfuck of poison clouds and barrages of trampling attacks in the following battle
>almost everyone had fire spells or weapons with them , but never thought of using it
>the elder told them to burn the fairies to kill them most effectively
>no one can take the hints i threw at them during the exploration (lots of pictures depicting fire as something extremely harmful to insects and fairies)

almost TPK , 2 of 5 survived and got awesome loot

i inform the pissed off players about their ignorance

at least they just agreed to make new characters

>inb4 you make campains too hard
my players all agreed on the difficulty level , if something has twice as much strength points than you , prepare to get yo shit slapped
(we play a homebrew btw)

tl;dr
fairies are usually polite or playful/mischievous , but remember that they can have a damn horrifying side

I Think stuff like Dresden Files handles the variety well. Some of them will try to screw over everyone all the time for the evulz. Some of them will try to screw you over for personal reasons. Some of them are kind of dicks, but not in a lethal way. Some of the ones who might otherwise kill you will not under certain circumstances if you play things right, and a few will actually try to help you or eagerly help you but be bound by rules.

Not all of them are bad. Even the ones who are technically required to kill you for some reason will bend over back words to find a reason not to, sometimes. They are people after all. People who follow a set of rules that makes an OCD persons issues look laughable and simple, who also live in a very byzantine, perverse society.

Again, it depends on basic nature and the relationship.

Keep in mind that number of players includes people who no longer play that particular system. By active games, 5e is trumping PF by a solid 10%.
>>
>>44109550
Its true though. Specially since we got that hipster surge and bigbang did a thing now we got youngsters to young to even have memories from 3.x and other various games. PF is from 7 years ago. Kids that were in elementary school playing ball in a cup can buy cigs now. VHS is obsolete and 8 track is dead. Bellbottoma already had a resurgence and died. I forget where i'm going with this now wheres my tapioca.
>>
>>44109575
Twilicorn or best Twilight?
>>
>>44109613
This chart is really entertaining. I wonder how well it translates into games played around a table.
>>
>>44109739
There would probably be a strong correlation, though I doubt that Maid RPG would be quite so relatively popular.
>>
>>44109665
Twilicorn. My friends are asses.
>>
>>44109739
I think PF might beat 5th edition in non-online games since a lot of gaming groups have played it for a long time and from my experience most people are reluctant to learn a new system if they don't have to (you already play one fantasy RPG and everybody in your groups knows the rules, so why bother learning new rules to play another very similar fantasy RPG?).
>>
>>44107650
Name one time a myth or folk tale that ever showed that Fairies should be trusted.

>>
>>44110254

>>
>>44110165
That's a nice theory, but 3.5/PF have been on a steady downtrend while 5e has been steadily on the rise. In everything from online games to google search metrics to book sales to convention games, while 3.5/PF are still doing fairly well, 5e is firmly at the top of the charts. It likely has to do with it having done a great job of not only attracting new players, but being similar enough to the older editions that there's no real hiccups in transitioning to it.
>>
>>44110254
But anon, pic in OP is from a vidya and screws over the party. A lot, being both the main quest giver and final boss.
>>
>>44110376
Don't forget that 5e is easy to learn. So all these new players that dodged 4e are walking into the new edition and embracing it as their first system.

Nothing sane can come from anything with a Fae typing anywhere in its description. Any instance of this not being true is a fluke 99.9999999% of the time.
>>
>>44107650
False dichotomy. They may very well not try to screw you over, but that doesn't mean they're not still untrustworthy by virtue of being flighty, impulsive, and/or having a skewed sense of values and priorities. Doesn't mean they're cruel or malicious, just that you shouldn't rely on them for anything important. If they aren't out to get you, they'll screw things up for you in an episode of well-meaning whimsy, do things all wrong on account of mismatched expectations, or simply drop what you trusted them to do out of forgetfulness or simply not taking it seriously.
>>
>>44109613
>Anima actually on that chart.
>Above IK
Woo. It's something.
>>
>>44108807
Well they have a point on this one. You sure as shit don't trust Fae in NWoD, especially if you are a changeling, because the stronger the fae, the more fucked up their reasoning. If it's DnD, it likely depends on the nature of the fae you meet. Exalted, only if you can get them burdened down by so many contracts, since to break those can really screw them over. So really, each setting has its own rules.

Maaan... Airy and Ouroboros were pretty well executed for a JRPG, but they would have been so much better if Airy was a more direct Nyarlathotep analogue and Ouroboros was a more direct Azathoth analogue. As it stands, Ouroboros only really showed up at the end, eating Airy as enormous chaos deities are wont to do to their agents when they've outlived their usefulness. The problem is that, narratively speaking, Airy was essentially the major antagonist of the endgame up until the last few moments and was a much more established character, someone the player could have had emotional investment in (in that they despise her), not to mention she was the center of BD's major plot twist.

If the relationship between Airy and Ouroboros was less simply servant and master and more "Airy is the messenger, heart, and soul of the God of Destruction" ala Nyarlathotep to Azathoth and her getting eaten was more just getting reabsorbed back into the ancient primordial world-eating chaos god, I think the final boss progression would have flowed a lot better. I mean, fuck, the portion of Serpent Eating the Horizon that isn't climactic remixes of the main character themes is an epic remix of Airy's battle theme, even...

>corrupting the minds of tiny, innocent fairies so that they always try to cheer up depressed humans by rubbing themselves against that person's crotch
>convincing them that this is all a fun game
>teaching them how to experience orgasm
>turning pure-hearted fairies into voracious, lewd creatures constantly looking for their next sexual release
>fairies eagerly rubbing themselves up against your meatrob when you present it to them, hoping to be showered in its vulgar fluids

You're just having a time precipitating my magical realm, aren't you, /tg/?
