Yugioh or Magic? Which is better? List pros and cons of each please.

Cons
>not Pokemon TCG
>>
MTG-
Pros:
>Beautiful art
>Tons of depth
>Flavorful story
>Longer lasting value
>Multiple formats

Cons:
>Mana starving/flooding
>Entry price

Yugioh-
Pros:
>Cool art
>Memes
>Archetype for anything you can dream of

Cons:
>98% of those archetypes are trash and there are only 1-3 good decks at any point
>Only one format to choose from
>More expensive in the long run
>POWER CREEP
>>
>>44052361

I was going to post this.

Also, I like that, in MTG, the sets are interconnected. Two-three packs in the same area, with possible returns to them. Reoccuring major characters.

But I also like that Yugioh tends to reinvent old ones.
>>
>Collectible games.
>>

>Judging other's people hobbies while also having shameful hobbies
>>
>>44052690
>Defending $100 pieces of cardboard.
>>
yugioh is a lot more affordable
>>
>>44052740
Only if you play once ever
YGO has standard rotation llike magic, but it does so in the worst possible way (IE straight up LYING TO YOUR FACE about it)
>>
>>44052361
You missed some stuff in YGO's cons
Mainly microtext, horribly optimized card layout, and blatant racism
>>
>>44052730
Everyone has expensive hobbies, and its up to their judgement to expend their money on what they want
>>
>>44052768
>Mainly microtext

Holy fucking shit how I hate this

Yugioh has Alexis though

Should boot up the ol PSP one of these days and feed that bitch some sandwiches

Wouldn't be half as bad if they didn't waste so much card space

If you are not going for T1-3 decks after around 400 zloty (that will be around 100 dollars i belive) the hobby will start to slowly pay for itself, the full worth of my cards is around 1.3-4x what i payed, and all i did was buy booster packs. MTG is not all that expensive if you dont go profesional

I mean, MTG has power creep too. Would anyone have imagined something as powerful as Tarmogoyf back in Invasion-block era? I think not.
>>
>>44058277
Granted, it's not anywhere near as fast as YGO's power creep, but it still exists.
>>
>>44052169
Magic
>Has EDH
Yugioh
>Only one format

EDH wins again.
>>
>>44058334
Yugioh players actually have demanded new formats in the past, but Konami has no respect for the playerbase, so it will never happen.
>>
>>44058540
Actual quote from a Konami of America employee:

"Our target demographic is, and always has been, children ages 6-12. It's cool that people older than that enjoy the game, but if those people are going to constantly demand things related to the tournament scene, they should honestly just switch to Magic. We are not Wizards of the Coast, and thus, that demographic is not our main priority."
>>
>>44058814
Damn. I have no quarrell with Yugi, but fuck me that's basically flipping neckbeards off and asking them to call the cops cus you obviously don't give a shit.

The funny thing is that's not even particularly heavy cherrypicking - a LOT of black people like yugioh. Must be the inner weeb they all seem to have.

lolkids
>>
Why are the stat numbers on YGO cards so damn large? I always thought that would be a detriment to younger players who are into the anime and shit, given their preference for smaller numbers. Plus, it's just easier to keep track of a la Pokemon and Magic.
>>
>>44052361
>mana starving/flooding
nothing irks me more than hardly being able to even play a match due to this exact thing. thats why my buddies and I will play with our basic lands in a separate pile and choose to draw from either the main library or the land pile (landfill as we call it) at each draw phase
>>
>>44059900

What about nonbasic lands
>>
>>44059731
Lol.

Konami has literally REVOKED stores of their privilege to sell Yugioh products for hosting unsanctioned tournaments. So something like EDH could never come about, outside of casual play.
>>
>>44059493

It's not just black people, Mexicans are all about yugioh too
>>
>>44060373
Anything not a basic land goes in the main library. Anything that of course says search for a basic land just means draw from the landfill
>>
>>44059389
Bandit Keith is an American who needs to cheat and steal to win (a shot at American professional sports). Rebecca Hawkins is the top ranked player in America, and she's a little girl. Johnny Steps is a black guy who creeps on girls. And the Steve Irwin guy from GX was literally created right after Steve Irwin's tragic death.

In all my years of playing the game nothing has irritated me more than this. YGO's retardly-intricate rule lawyoring made it where you had to understand every retarded nuance because Konami was too fucking lazy to make card effects simpler to read through.

This nigger gets printed in the US with his "Once per chain" bullshit and Konami decides to just pull a quick one saying "It's really just 'Once per turn' at instant speed.'" But people are too literal on the way things read and assume it can't trigger because of that shit.

Game wouldn't be so shit if they didn't require you to understand dumb shit like the spell speeds and that bullshit ability to magically miss the timing.

Brionac.png

>>44064517
A big problem we had at my local shop was back when Brionac was in widespread use. People abused the shit out of that old priority bullshit that allowed you to activate and resolve its effect BEFORE being destroyed by an activated trap. Me, being the new player I was at the time, was confused as fuck since I was taught that exact wording was all that really mattered and nothing on Brionac's card mentioned anything about effect speed.

>Opponent summons Brionac
>I activate Bottomless Trap Hole
>He tells me it has Ignition priority so it gets its effect off before being destroyed by the trap
>Judge tells me its currently a legal move in NA

This was a real thing that went on at my locals. There were on average 40 players every Tuesday night at half of them were doing this. Konami eventually released a statement clarifying Ignition rules or some shit and people finally stopped doing it.
>>
>>44059387
Stop righty there you anglokek.

That is a nazareno.

You sound like you're bad at deck construction and anybody half competent would be able to break this system (assuming you have it fleshed out enough to handle drawing more than one card, replacing cards on the library, effects that shuffle permanents into the library, search effects, etc.).
>>
>>44069352
40 players??

These days 8 people show up at my locals, on a good day.

Looking back 40 seems a little high. It was at least 25-30 for sure though because I remember the sign-in list.

Its the only shop in my area that does YGO tournaments with prizes. It used to be a small store in a shopping mall that could barely hold thirty people so it had tables outside the store so everyone can play. The owner eventually left the mall for a larger location and it's fucking PACKED on game nights. It has tournaments for Vanguard, Pokemon, YGO, FNM, and some other obscure card games I can't even recall. One was with a bunch of anime characters from different series.

Japanese customers get cards months earlier . Filthy gajin outside grorious nippon cannot use said cards

Magic had some racist shit in the old days too.
>>
ygo always seemed like an endless climb at least to a younger me. Magic today is unequivocally the better game for a multitude of reasons, mainly that there is more than one way to use the card pool. I suppose adding on the pile of things ygo has going against it is being owned by konami. Sure WOTC is owned by hasbro but it doesn't feel like the big corporate thumb is pressing down on them as hard as Konami is pressing on YGO, especially with 25% growth year-over-year.
