I've been experimenting using poker dice with a miniatures wargame. It got a pretty simple system down that seems to work pretty good.

On kickstarter now there is a weird kind of dice-coin fusion called Flip Dice made up of a group of two-sided metal tiles with these number pairs on them: (7,0); (6,1);(5,2); (4,3).

Probably, but it does have a certain intrigue to it, sort of like non-transitive dice.

Any custom die made for a board game.
>>
>>43913504
The six sides of a poker die is split into 3 groups:
Faces (jack, king, queen)
Numbers (8, 9)
and the Ace

When rolling dice, it's a vs rolling system. Attacker is rolling attack dice, and defender is rolling defense dice. The amount of dice rolled depends on things like their stats, cover, bonuses, etc.

The faces are what matter, and the numbers would be considered fails. If the attacker rolls more faces than the opponent, then the attack succeeds. Of course if the defender rolls more, then the attack failed.

The aces are unique in that they do not count for anything, unless 2 or more come up in a roll, in which case the attack is considered a critical hit and the aces count as faces. Some units have abilities that trigger from crit rolls.

Example rolls: when rolling 5 dice (which would be considered a 'big' pool in this game)
A, Q, 10, 10, 9 - this is only 1 'hit'
A, A, 10, 10, 9 - this is 2 hits, and also a crit
K, Q, Q, A, A - this is 5 hits, and also a crit

In the events of ties, where both got same hits, then it goes to dice superiority. A>K>Q>J>10>9
So if one player rolled an A, J, 9, and the other rolled Q, 10, 9, then the person who rolled the A wins the roll, but by marginal success.

This is the basics of the conflict mechanic, im still developing the rest of the game around it.
>>
>>43913858
That sounds like it would work with the regular d6. 6 is King, 5 is Queen, 4 is Jack, 3 and 2 are 10 and 9, and 1 is Ace.
>>
>>43913923
Yeah it would. And that would be an alternative if you didn't have poker dice.

But in gameplay rolling and reading results would go faster in using poker dice because pictures are quicker to read. Also it would help the feel of the game with it being a wild-west skirmish game.
>>
>>43913986
Yeah, I suppose. Maybe some mechanic might involve the suits of the dice, not the values?
>>
>>43914098
Well the only thing that has suits are the numbers and ace. The faces dont have suits, and all dice are the same. So the suits really don't have an effect on the game.

Maybe some characters have effects like 'if all dice roll red, then all dice rolled are considered hits' or something like that.

I have those dice. They're for some sailors game or something. I lost the rules a long time ago.

>SUCK
>THIGH
Good luck bitch
>>
>>43913923
Well yeah, duh. All six sided dice are . . . six sided dice.

We're talking about the merits of different symbols in facillating the impact of rolls on players, according to the peculiarities of a game system. Not whether six distinct even probabilities is an issue.
>>
>>43919788

Sucking can be done on a flat or gently curved surface, anon. Imagine your partner sucking on your inner thigh, moving gradually until it starts being less inner "thigh" and starts being _____DICK_____.
>>
>>43912983
They're meant exclusively for replacing the dice in crappy "classic" board games.

The real solution to being bored with garbage like Monopoly, Sorry, and Life is to play real board games.
>>
>>43913672
>Thank God It's 6-A-Bong
PERFECT
>>
>>43921009
Yeah, I saw that and agree it is somewhat idiotic, but the idea of having different 'dice pools' as it were to choose from when rolling, and the physical 'dice' (really coins, basically) themselves are kinda neat, in a way.

Is the sixth side the new <> mana symbol?
>>
I have a dice from God knows where. It's a d6 with:

A handprint
A cartoon kid's face
A pie
The word "STATE"
The number 2
And...shit, something else I can't remember.

Anyways, I have no idea what it's for.
>>
>>43923393

I think these dice are older than that, so maybe it's a tap symbol or something.
>>
>>43923855
find a way to somehow integrate it into your game of choice

make up whatever houserules you need to, just find a way
>>
>>43912637
It's a dice for card games
Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds and Anchors on the sides
Kings and Aces on top and bottom
>>
>>43924321
I have a couple of those dice that came with a poker mat I bought.
The instructions said it was a game called Crown and Anchor, which is a very simple betting based game, like roulette with dice or a very basic craps.

You should have three different d6s, each with three different sets of wacky values, in a system that consistently uses 3d6.

Not that it's rarely used for mechanics, but it's very rare as a physical dice.
And it's a big shame.
