So how do people feel about the new Cadian formations?

The actual formations are cool but the decurion setup was a bit disappointing. You're forced to dump massive amounts of points into either guardsmen or tanks which limit your ability to take anything else.

Guys, guys I've got an idea. I'm fucking around making some Night Lord models and I wanted to add a Sorcerer, so I was thinking of different ways to kit him out and I got to Disc of Tzeentch. It seems like a fun build, but doesn't fit the aesthetic of the army I'm building with minimal daemonic shit. Ignore the hypocrisy of me saying this in a post about kitting out a Sorc.

Anyway I thought it would be cool as shit to put a Sorc on a disc modeled like pic related. Do any of you have a suggestion of a model to use as a start for this? Is there some 28mm scale Spider-Man miniature game out there? Or am I stuck trying to build this with master-crafted plasticard and holy greenstuff?

>>
>>43903725

>Deathwing

Wrong wing kiddo, go Ravenwing or go home.

Buy two or three more Dark Vengeance bike sets from ebay and put your DV librarian on one.

Next get two battleforces, now you a 6 knight command squad, 3 or 4 ravenwing bike squads, 2 attack bikes and 2 land speeders.

Check this out put your librarian with a standard, apoth, champ and three grenade launchers or whatever really.

each of the land speeders can go with a unit of bikes to form attack squads.

If you wanna grow a big dick get two more landspeeders and a Darkshroud for a support squadron.

You could also get an interegator chaplin or second librarian.

This will get you armies up to ~1250 points and can be built in steps from 500 up.

I bring a deathwing force at 2250 when I have a ton of beacons all over the board with my Ravenwing army.

Might as well play straight SM if you want to bring DW at anything below 1850
>>
Did we get leaks of all the IA11 stuff yet? I know there were a lot of leaks re the corsair stuff a while back, but supposedly there are a ton of new craftworld eldar formations in there as well that haven't been leaked last i saw.
>>
>>43903915

DA player with 50,000 points and 15 years of playing here. Bikes are much more fun to play.

Terminators used to be great. Now that AP2 is everywhere and cheaply accessible, and the Deathwing formation getting gutted so you can't deploy turn one anymore...it's pretty much unplayable outside of casual games against Chaos.
>>
>>43902834
I like them. It's a bit taxing to have to deploy 5 Leman Russ tanks, or a bucket of infantry, before you can get most the cool stuff but I really like Leman Russ tanks so I don't mind too much.

I got into 40k pretty recently and have just been buying a lot of random stuff for my guard army, so this will give it a lot more structure, but because I didn't have a focus on my army I don't have enough of anything to make much use of the detachment. I'll build up more infantry and get another sentinel, than I'll either go for the psyker force or the artillery force after that. I got 5 Leman Russ tanks so I'm a least good there.

The vets+hellhound is awesome, ditto the Sentinels. The artillery one might be cool if Manticores/Deathstrikes/Basilisks get rebalanced.

What ability do you roll for with a librarian on a bike? I want to add one to my list for 1250 but I could just as easily get another bike squad. I can post the list I want to run.

Also should I always run two grenade launchers in my ravenwing command squad?

>>43903875

you can only have two grenade launchers in a command squad.
>>
>>43903477
I'm looking at the Myrmidon models on FW right now to try to think of something, but let me preface this by saying I'm proud of you for thinking up a creative army but holy fuck this is an expensive way to play it.

What I'd do personally as a GK player in your shoes is buy the myrmidon models and place a GK stormbolter on the flat side of the left power gripper thing, and then for the right arm I would either attach a GK hand to the arm stump with a Halberd or Sword from the GK terminator kit (ask around at your LGS and I'm 100% sure the GK player will have spares you can buy for cheap) and then use one of those fuckhuge Myrmidon zappers (not the plasma one or rocket one) as a proxy for the Psycannon that I'm hoping you'll be taking because Psycannons are the shit. Good luck.
>>
>>43902913

Armour of Shadows, roll up Divination, stick in a Devastator Squad with all grav-cannons or Lascannons.

Combination of reason. Tanks can't solve every problem in the world and all the love for heavy armor and massive guns in the galaxy won't change that.

I've also been thinking about doing a mass infantry list for a while and with re-rolling ones to hit, that makes a huge difference. Makes mass infantry a bit more appealing. Also I do really want to make the artillery formation. Psyker formation makes the psykers notably more powerful, at the cost of a noteworthy increase of death by commissar.

In the end of the day there are a lot of little things I like about the cadia detachment.

Depends what your Dark Angels be like.

Mainly Tacticals ? Very little synergy, you're keeping forces in reserves that might make a difference at the right moment but that's 500 points of the army that's not on the table while the rest is fighting to stay alive because of that difference.

Ravenwing ? Not bad, the bikes are fast and though, have synergy with Deathwing and can use them to hold an objective while moving across the map. The thing is, you're usually better off with more bikes for those points.

Every model has its place.

Some models shine, like Keepers, Kairos, Skarbrand, Screamers, Pink Horrors, Plague Drones, Flesh Hounds, Be'lakor

buy the models you like, full WAACfag Daemons is a bit of a chore to play. Hopefully their 7th edition update in 2016 will give them a bit more clarity/structure on list building (Being stuck with CAD sucks sometimes)
>>
>>43904822

>>
>>43904839

>>
>>43904839

Another big issue for some is that most of the Daemons models are still finecast, which is a huge bummer for new players. Really it depends on your gaming group, if your usual opponents are White Scars battle companies, you really need to go all out with Daemons/Nids to even have a fighting chance. But if your group players stuff like Orks, CSM, Dark Eldar, and IG, youl have tons of fun playing an army that's on a similar powerlevel as your friends (Take it from me, playing Craftworld Eldar against my friends Space Wolves, CSM, and Nids, every game was over turn 2.)
>>
>>43904855

Toss up a link, i got a bud looking to expand.
>>
>>43904839
You can bet with almost 100% certainty that all plastic units won't be updated at all in the next few daemon releases and just about every plastic unit isn't going to become useless anyway. Regular troops and HQs like daemon princes are always going to be mainstays.

If you build your army with that in mind you can get some game time in with your friends while having an army that's limited but future proof.

Hmm. 15 Hours is excellent. I say the key is to find authors you like and on that score the big 3 are ADB, Dan Abnett, and Graham McNeil.

I'd also take The First Heretic -Aaron Dembski-Bowden is probably BL's best author as while Dan Abnett's actual prose is goddamn impressive he's also the High Priest of 40k's Bad Ideas. The Night Lords series is excellent as well -though not if you're an Eldar fan as come book 3 the rape train finally leaves the station.

McNeil's not that great in most of his work but Angel Exterminatus is surprisingly strong in it's characterization of Perturabo and Storm of Iron is in it's 8th printing and well worth the time.

*Bad Ideas including "Transhuman Dread" (normals are just scurrrred dead of charging Space Marines), the Admech Pretty Corps (ostensibly diplomats but actually a total repudiation of the important creepiness of the AdMech), Gaunt's Ghosts in general (ripping good novels but Celtic Ninja Rangers who power-level on chaos planets is an idea that ages badly), Ultramarines actually saying "Theoretical & Practical" out loud to show off their scholar-warrior qualities, and generally producing fan-fellation-fiction for the Imperial Guard and Space Marines because they've been just STARVED for novels otherwise.
>>
>>43905187

Whats the best way to run this formation? I'm really tempted to take a bunch of Armoured Plasma Sentinels to take advantage of Outflank and PE
>>

Two full squads of armored sentinels (Since they already have Outflank Scouts are kind of crap), Multilasers or Autocannons, plasma might be cool if you like danger but they olny have two HPs so losing one to overheat is going to be a bitch. If you have more than 6 sentinels then take another formation for more orders.

Why don't Eldar craftworlds have more variants in armor like the Space Marines and Imperial Guard do? Are Eldar arrogant enough to believe their armor technology has peaked and there's no room for improvement?

>Pask finally gets some characterization
>He's described as an ass
>Gets shreked by Hammerheads due to pulling a Leeroy Jenkins like an asshole

>"Those of Knight Commander Pask's regiment that had survived many battles with their illustrious tank leader had learned a harsh truth: Pask was an indifferent, even uncaring leader."
>"Although his soldiers never spoke it aloud, they knew that sometimes the objects Pask used for cover were their own tanks or those within the company."

God fucking damn it.

What peeves me the most is that you can't even take Look Out Sirs! against attacks against his squadron anyway.

So, the next Tyranid codex will be probably in January, judging by the ending of Mont'ka and the rumors. Which sector do you think will be the scenario of their campaign?
>>
>>43906502

I would deeply love for it to be Octarius, because a) That would mean Orks would get an update after Nids and b) It means we get more fluff on one of the most interesting and relevant wars in the entire galaxy.
>>
>>43906502

I doubt it.
I don't really think GW would do back-to-back single faction (Tau) releases.

Unless it's Ultramarions versus Nids in Battle for Macragge 2: Electric Biogooaloo
>>
>>43906502
Doubtful that they're getting a new codex. They definitely aren't getting a new campaign book. They just had several last year.

Next campaign will probably be Armageddon or the 13th Black Crusade. Maybe we'll be lucky and there'll be a one-book campaign for the Battle of Fenris next Spring.
>>
>>43905292
Don't play by ITC, then. I don't.
>>
>>43906502
There's a guy with a good rumour track (Sad Panda)in Dakka DAkka and he said there won't be Tyranids by January, but Space Wolves by February
>>
>>43906611

Space Yiffs have a 7th ed codex. Is that really going to come ahead of Chaos and Tyranids, both armies in dire need of an update? Not to mention that if they're revamping 7th ed codices, Orks were ahead of the wolf fuckers.
>>
>>43906637
Probably the same treatment the tau received, it's easier to copy and paste the 7ed codex that doesn't have decurions than working with and outdated codex, and is probably better for chaos to have GW looking how to balance the codex rather a copy and paste, or is that what you want? A copy and paste chaos codex?

what the general idea of house rules in mainstream tabletop games?
I recently got into 40k and the guys there say they have a house rule that they roll a separate dice for gets hot before resolving shots. I'm not sure but I thought that gets hot is just if you roll a 1 in your to hit for plasma weapons?

Where does tg draw the line on house rules? Would you allow a rule that directly opposes a clearly written rule?
Should I bring this up to them? They're pretty cool guys and I don't wanna seem like that guy but I'm pretty sure the original rule is pretty clear

The Eldar tend to consider mobility and positioning better defenses than layering up and hunkering down. I'd also guess their armor is more comfortable to wear for long durations since they're not worried about needing too many suits.

We have a few.

For one, you can never shoot more than 6" through a window, unless standing within 6" of said window. No sniping someone through 3 separate windows without any penalty.

Second, and this one likely rubs some people the wrong way, But: for 15 points, you can buy a "pick" on the psychic table, or 20 points for a pick on the Warlord trait table.

And before anyone screams "casual faggots!", you are also assumed to have automatically failed any kind of rolls, including rolls that would have been subject to rerolls, if you throw the dice off the table. Use a dice tray if you can't figure out how to roll dice properly.

I want to see a tournament where the organisers are, though there's no non-asshole way to do this, focused on vetting absurd power lists out so people can just show up with the army they like because they actually like collecting it.

Because with a mechanism to get power gaming lunatics to just fucking leave, an organised meet up to play the game all day sounds *gasp* fun.
>>
>>43903575
Hellions are what you're after. Sky board gliders for the win!
>>
>>43907464

Yes, those are literally a box of Dark Elf Green Goblins.
>>
>>43907442
You're right, there is no way to do that.

So what you do is run an event where people need to bring a 3K point list and then pull complete units from the list to build lists at different points levels and have all of the missions be different odd points levels.

You also don't give out prizes for winning but for random stuff like playing in the game with the most victory points, the least victory points, where no objectives were held at the end, getting tabled most quickly, etc.

GW UK used to run a weekend event like this called Battleground.
>>
Speaking of Tau superformation bonuses, the Farsight one is a little awkwardly worded in that it doesn't say "in this detachment" for the benefit.

On the other hand, either way it's the tamest superformation since Daemonkin.
>>
>>43907533
You also make the forces and mission objectives asymmetric. Makes for fun games but drives the power game crowd nuts. Doesn't matter if they aren't perfectly balanced since there are no prizes for winning games.
>>

>>
>>43907442
The only time I have seen something like that it was a complete disaster. The problem was that the organisers were people that didn't play competitively and so weren't actually able to recognize power lists. They could vet the obvious ones, but I have seen things like an actually balanced list that was vetted and the owner was forced to alter it in a way that actually made it much more powerful. And this only because the organizer was convinced that some unit I don't remember was too gamebreaking while actually not being much good.

I know, but within the Deathwatch itself, the left pauldron (which bears chapter insignia) is moved to the right shoulder and the Deathwatch pauldron goes on the left. Assuming a veteran decides to keep the pauldron when they go back, would they wear it on their right shoulder, thus allowing them to once again wear the chapter iconography to their left? 6. Curze will be brought back by Chaos and will do a Settra, turning on Chaos at the end because "MUH JUSTICE"
7. Sanguinius will be reborn again, knowing him, exploding from the Tower on Baal and literally flying through space to Terra to fulfil the prophecy (remember? Dante thinks it's going to be him, but it totally isn't going to be)
8. Autistic Emo will break out of the rock when he realises that it's 40,999, COME ON, and being gay or autistic isn't bad any more

Thats partly also due to how old the Eldar designs are - The Aspect warriors are all Finecast (Scorpions and Banshees are newer, but Shining Spears and Warpspiders and Hawks are really old)

Guardians are quite old too, and the Dire Avengers Kit uses the same principles

The Windrider bikes were just a dearly needed update (the old bikers didn't even wear guardian armour, just look at the vyper pilot and gunner, they still wear that stuff)

really NEW units like for example Centurions are missing from the Eldar product line.
We got the Wraithknight, but that's a whole different story (not really an armour variant)

But as was already said, really bulky armor variants don't sit so well with the Eldar design asthetic, so I doubt heavy aspect armour will ever be as different from Guardian mesh as Tactical Dreadnought armour is from power armour.

I would however welcome more visually distinct designs for the different armour classes, when they maybe one day make plastic aspect warriors (or even Phoenix Kings!) or maybe even a new unit altogether
>>
>>43907680
Nope. The Sword had one in it and basically Fulgrim couldn't kill Manus. So the Sword made an offer; "Let me take you over and I'll kill him for you, don't worry, you'll be in blissful limbo" and he did. But he didn't get free (originally Horus disdained Chaos and wanted to free Fulgrim, but then Fulgrim tried to kill, err, who was it, in a ritual and became a Daemon Primarch). So my guess is that the Daemon Sword tricked Fulgrim. "Oh I'll totally kill him for you kek" and he doesn't, but kills another Iron Hand and uses warp powers to turn that Iron Hand into a lookalike. This was so he could become a Daemon Primarch (what's their power level? Better than Exalted Greater Daemons?). But, also, think bout it, what do Slaanesh Daemons like, what does Slaanesh like? Emotions of extreme nature, including rage. Now imagine the remnants of Fulgrim inside (who I believe is raging inside, which gives pleasure to the Daemon) realising Manus didn't die and he let the Daemon take him over for no reason.

>>
So to clarify about the Primarchs:

Horus: Ded.

Curze: Whiny emo gave a speech to his assassin instead of fighting back.

Alpharius: 1d3-1 Alphariuses currently exist, each with a 50/50 chance of being a closet loyalist.

Other heretics: Daemon Princes.

Sanguinus: Ded.

Other Loyalists: Various variations of in a coma or leapt into a warp hole.

Anyhow, which ones who aren't princesses stand a reasonable chance of suddenly showing back at random?

It seems like the vast majority of Deathwatch veterans don't wear the inquisition shoulderpad, but I've seen official GW photos of Marines, implied to be ex-Deathwatch, wearing their chapter colors with the left shiny Deathwatch pauldron and chapter insignia on the right (the opposite of normal layouts).

But then, I mainly know Iron Hands lore, and their insignia is all fucked up.

sorry in German they are called Phönix Könige which literally translates to Phoenix King intead of Lord

>>43907891
what I meant is, the Dire Avengers are just slightly different looking Guardians, the models are assembled the same way (of course parts are different, but it just underlines the overall "sameness" of the Eldar armour types)

Oh ok, I hadn't noticed (I'm avoiding finecast as much as possible after bad experiences with my Swooping Hawks). thanks

Anyone got the Army Campaign Badge picture with names and date? The stuff you put on Space Marine greaves and kneepads.

The TPD conversions are very easy, you'll be glad to hear. It's a great kit all around.

The Elimination Maniple is probably the most fun out of anything in the Admech codices. Seriously, it's a great formation to play.

Dude, Void Dragon corsairs are old news dating back well over 10 years.

Why wouldn't they call themselves that, the Void Dragon, after all, is a mythical creature of wanton destruction in Eldar mythology.

Neither, they both serve different purposes. Vanguard are going to be your rank-and-file line infantry; with Scout from their detachment the 18" range of their guns isn't a problem and they can really dish out a lot of damage within that bracket. Rangers are your objective campers; they can sit back and pick away at enemy units (and light vehicles if you give them an Arquebus or two), occasionally sniping a special weapon or squad leader if you're lucky.

So while I wouldn't call either one better, you'll probably want more Vanguard than Rangers.

Neither are particularly ultra-cheesy, which WAACfags really hate, but they're perfectly playable. Vanguard Vets and jump-Scions are awesome as a frontline force.

I've played a bunch of games with Scions, so here's a bit of unsolicited advice: never take medpacks or banners in your Command Squads. They're T3, meaning instant death will occur more often than not, and the banner does nothing since they're more overwatch-focused than assault troops. With that said, deepstriking a CS full of power weapons is always funny.

This. People get them confused.

Funnily enough, the way it works out on the tabletop, Vanguard with Arc Rifles generally make better tank-poppers, since they have Move Through Cover and can advance along the flanks while your Vanguard and Onagers draw most of the enemy fire.

Love it. Post pics when done

What I want to know is how some skinny-ass Fire Warrior can pick one of those things up, haul it around a warzone, and deploy it in the space of a single game turn.
>>
New to the game, i'm making a Tzeentch-based army, being that Sorcerer's on a Disk are Jetbike units, can I run them with a unit of Chaos Bikers?

It seals itself up and then hovers around after the soldiers. It can only hover when in the off mode.

Lion just needs his alarm clock to turn on.

Vulkan is probably alive and well too.

Corax, Russ and Khan can jump out of warp at any moment.

Rowboat is still healing or something.

Dorn is MAYBE alive so he's last at the list.

Ferrus would be hard pressed to do anything without a head.
>>
>>43908282
Well, that's an improvement over GW's explanation, since it doesn't exist.

It still looks like it must weigh 75 kilos, but what-the-fuck-ever.
>>
Iohammer or Missilesides?
>>
>>43908288
Dorn probably faked his death so he could show Rawbutt how a real tektikal jinyas does his thing.

Ferrus is dead as shit, no matter what Clan-Company Vurgaan says. Fulgrim had Bill clone him a bunch of times, though, so one of those will probably get loose and use the original as a servo-skull.

Yes you can, only difference is that the Sorcerer will ignore terrains as long as he doesn't start/end in them during movement so he can "cut" when moving around a corner. Also his Turbo move will be 24" but he'll need to remain in cohesion with the bikes.

Anons should correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it matters. Even an Infantry IC would be able to join them, they'd just have to slow down so he could stay in coherency. Obviously the Disk doesn't cause that problem, so I can't see any reason you couldn't field it.

That said, I suspect this logic may be a little fucked up, so take it at your risk.
>>
>>43908346
no, thats right. The only restriction for IC's joining unit is that they can't join a unit with that includes a MC
>>
>>43908374
Right, that much I remembered. With the exception of cases where it's pre-built (like Battlesuits with drones or Admech Baymaxes and their attendant Tech-Priests).
