Only War basically obliges you to be a shitty Imperial Guardsman (while as with everything in GW there are many snowflakey subtypes, you're still a plebby grunt in the end) and doesn't work well for anything other than combat.

I don't know if there is one, but if there was a specialized system made for playing Biker Mice From Mars, that would be it.

I mean, if you wanted to play a game about bikers, but not mice bikers, you're out of luck, and even if you did manage to find two or three other people who also wanted to play as mice bikers, for all of you to reach an accord as to the planet of your origination and for it to be Mars? The odds of that occurring are truly astronomical.

9/10, you'd wind up playing as Pilot Cats from a Metropolis.
>>
>>43880231
Thanks for giving an actual answer, but the system is basically the same one used in the other 40k games, which are at least a little bit different.
>>
>>43880231
I'd argue that Deathwatch is even more specialized, what with Space Marines being warrior-monk-combat-demigods who literally cannot function in any normal society.

A few licensed RPGs have an extreme focus and lack character creation systems - like the ancient Dallas RPG. I've heard of a Beatles Yellow Submarine game that also lacks character creation, but I have never seen it (it might be from a dream or some shit, I dunno).

Creeks & Crawdads is also very specialized, being a 'realistic' RPG wherein the only post-apocalyptic survivors are crawdads.

Sagas of the Icelanders. It's a game about gender roles in ancient Iceland. It features classes such as "Man", "Woman", and "Child", and Stats that include "Young" and "Gendered".

It's a very weird, very specific, surprisingly good game.

>about subverting gender roles and patting yourself on the back for it
then I suggest you go back to school, because your reading comprehension is clearly shit.
>>
>>43887405
The game is about how women and men have different roles in society, and how they excel at different tasks. It by no means try to subvert gender roles, but aims to have a somewhat accurate depiction of gender roles in the viking era.
Your interpretation was pants-on-head retarded.
>>
>>43887430
That is true, but players often subvert these role and deal with the consequences.
In the RolePlay series, one of the characters is a woman warrior viking who killed her husband for not being good enough at sex.
>>
>>43887430
>Your interpretation was pants-on-head retarded.
Bruh when you say "gender is a stat" the only possible expectation is tumblr's gender-terrorism.
Explain it properly next time rather than just pretending that you aren't baiting.
>>
>>43887466
No, Anon, tumblr's gender-terrorism would make gender into several stats, each with alternative for open-ended write in.
>>
>>43887466
>>43887491
No. Tumblrism would be if there were 10000 checkboxes for your sex and prefered pronouns, but they would have no effect on gameplay other than adding to or subtracting from your privelege score.

When "Gender" is a stat it means women have moves that help them seduce and goad men into doing what they want, while men have moves that focus on protecting their personal honour; as you'd know is appropriate to the setting if you've read any of the sagas.
>>
>>43887569
>while men have moves that focus on protecting their personal honour
what about the other honour?
>>
>>43886784
It explicitly has three different moods you can use not to mention that while the core of the setting - alpha complex - stays the same, there's a lot of stuff you can do within the setting, from Red troubleshooters to ultraviolet high-programmers to virtually anything in-between. It's barely more narrow than something like D&D - certain base assumptions stay the same, but there's a LOT of things you can do with them.

I actually came up with an easy to use privilege system for roleplaying games a while ago.

During character creation, you can buy privileges (such as male, white, straight, cisgendered, etc) for your character, costing X points each. During play, if you fail a roll, you can invoke an appropriate privilege to turn the failed roll into a success. For example: If you fail a bluff roll when trying to lie to the police, you can invoke your white privilege to have them believe you and not shoot you. If you fail to kick a door open, you can invoke your able-bodied privilege to make the kick successful. And so on. Each privilege can only be invoked once per session.

You're welcome tumblr
>>
>>43887859
Elf is a class in Basic, not Advanced.
>>
>>43887978
>It only be invoked once per session

So what? You become black after that point? this is 4e level bullshit.

Yes it's 4e bullshit that gives players greater control of the narrative than their characters have, but some people are ok with that.

Masters of the Universe "RPG". You have pre-generated characters, preset goal (retrieve magic macguffin from villain's lair) and a preset board as your dungeon (location of treasure varies and there are some random enemy encounters but that's it). If it didn't have "role playing game" in the name, it wouldn't qualify at all since it's clearly a board game, not an RPG. The only reason they called it one because they were planning to release an "advanced edition" with additional rules that would turn it into more of a proper RPG, but that never materialised.

The gender roles are not tumblresque at all. It's a substitute for class. Although the roles are traditionally gender locked, specific people might break these limitations, such as the widow of a great jarl who manages to claim the settlement for her own, and runs it properly.
In this game, she would be THE MAN, even if she is female.

Jesse played a shieldmaiden. That's one of the roles. The traits he gave the character fit into these limitations.

It can do gritty Darksun pretty well. Is probably the best at playing low magic out of all editions too, since you don't actually need an arcane class for a party to function.

Also, someone pops up from time to time to say they are running mecha/anime/sci-fi/ whatever in it.
>>
I'm pretty sure both Bunnies and Burrows and Creeks and Crawdads are pretty specialised.

I saw Don't Rest Your Head mentioned upthread - not true at all. I saw a bunch of hacks of that game years ago. As long as your game involves some kind of spiral into failure or crazyness, you can use it for that, just rename the stats.

>Then, quite frankly, you are playing wrong. The Drowning and Falling Role-Playing Game is about the horror and sorrow of drowning and falling. ... man, I wasn't really sure what to expect from A Place to Fuck Each Other but it's definitely not what I got. Yeah, sure, there's some mild-to-moderate SJW tendencies around the parts where the authors write about polyarmory, but apart from that, it's probably one of the most genuinely depressing system I've read about in a while.

It's not Only War. You're not some unfortunate guardsman doing your utmost to hold the line against eldritch monstrosities until your own commander orders danger close air support and you find out just how friendly friendly fire really is. It's not Normality - you're not on a rapid descent into terminal insanity because some prick decided that lobotomizing God was a hilarious idea. It's not Delta Green where you watch your character's everything fall apart but at least know that her sacrifice was a noble one and that it's all thanks to the likes of her that mankind hasn't turned into one of Lovecraft's nightmares yet (obligatory prophylaxis: /pol/ pls go). Chances are you'll never wind up at the point at which nihilism kicks in and makes it all OK.

You're playing some girl who just wants to be loved but everybody - including yourself - is actively working against that. You're told to create your character with all sorts of baggage. The other players are told to add bits of narrative complicating everything even further, especially the one who gets to play the third wheel who's specifically instructed to make things difficult and awkward. It's all mundane stuff, too, so no escapism allowed either.

Fuck.
>>
>>43880231
I'd say Only War's still reasonably flexible. Especially if you allow for some mild homebrewing, but even if you try to stick to the books as much as possible you can still use OW's crunch for a whole lot of games and settings with the only truly strict obligation being that all of your guys and gals are reasonably martial types.

Sure, you can play classic guardsmen doing guardsman things. You can also play cyberpunk gangs, a team of investigators getting sent to not!Syria to follow up on allegations of human rights violations by one party or another, PMCs enforcing the will of some conspiratorial megacorporation on the US after several major cities got nuked, revolutionaries trying to blend in and not get noticed by the government until you find the right moment to strike, the list goes on.

Sure, there may be a /better/ system for what you've got in mind, but I don't think trying to use OW for anything other than an Imperial Guard campaign is quite as futile as trying to use, say, AdEva for anything that doesn't involve giant weaboo (not!)robot fightan magic.
>>
>>43880141
Ironically, this may be the most correct answer.
>>
>>43880269
Well there's CRAB TRUCKERS game which is pretty narrow.
>>
>>43887978

The sad thing is that GURPS can already do this in several ways. Most are pretty boring and vanilla, but you could use Serendipity + the refreshing points system in Impulse Buys to get favorable GM treatment. Then apply the limitation (-30 Social only) and you have your SJW game.

Of course, SJWs don't know enough math to handle the rest of GURPS, so maybe your system is better.
