I know I personally do. Definitely one of that guy's better articles.
I incorporated pitiful malformed 'bush drakes' as lesser pests in my setting because of it. True dragons are as rare as divine encounters, and the primordial dragons that were present at the start of the universe are 'horrible mutant chaos animals' ramped up to eleven in the opposite direction. Mostly because I've always loved eldritch horrors being called angels and dragons because its the only name that fits.

How do I make boss fights with Dragons good?
>>
>>43817379

Focus a lot on the dragon's personality. What kind of lair does it have? The location of the fight should be very dynamic and interesting.

A black dragon that dives underwater and raises poisonous undead. White dragon with a lair coated in icy floors and stomps the ground to make stalactites crash down. Blue dragon with all kinds of arcane gizmos they activate mid fight, and a troupe of summoned water elementals that they can use to arc lightning across the battlefield.
>>
>>43817526
Should the location of the fights require rolls or just be dealt with in-character?
>>
>>43816845
Each dragon should be a one of a kind creature, a horrid mishmash of other creatures.

Is there a table we can roll on to create composition monsters like that?

Depends on how passive or active you want a particular obstacle to be. Like, you could have icy floors be something they just deal with if you have a group with people who enjoy roleplaying difficulties, but it could also be some kind of acrobatics/balance check to not fall prone when they move more than a few feet at once.

I like Temeraire level. Smart enough to be chatty with humans and generally do their own thing but but no above a level that prevents them from being downright domesticated by humans or develop their own cultures besides from absorbing what they come in contact with as an egg.

At least I think that's the gist Temeraire intelligence level, I only read the first book and most of the one where Temeraire got laid.

Anon 80 is for a human sized one, it would be a lot lower on a dragon, hell, you might not even have to roll for it
>>
>>43824842

Dragons have above human mathematical aptitude in Temeraire. Mostly it just seems they're restrained from forming their own culture by a bizarre passivity. They have their own language in at least some parts of the world, so it's not like they're pure beasts unless domesticated either.
>>
>>43824740
Thought that was a cooking show until I saw the filename. If that were the case, I can imagine that once a month a group of guys in trench coats bust into the set to try and kill the dragon, then get roasted.
It turns out that the guy who keeps hiring these thugs is one of the dragon's producers, and knowledge of the possibility of a gunfight on TV is the greatest reason why people tune into it initially, then stay to find out how to make beef wellington the old-fashioned way.
>>
>>43824885
Mathematical and speech aptitude. Recall that Temeraire isn't even 10 years old in the books, yet learns more, and faster, than pretty much any human. And it doesn't seem to be restricted to Celestials, either.

Part of it could've also been Laurence not knowing how dragons are usually raised, and inadvertently vastly increasing Temeraire's curiosity and drive for knowledge. A dragon's interests seem quite different depending on how they're raised - there's the obvious example of the mentally broken dragon raised by that abusive guy.

It's mentioned very briefly in the second book. Temeraire had been interacting with a female Celestial here and there throughout the book, and when Laurence mentions something about all the complexity of human courting Temeraire mentions how all he did was go into a room and... then he acts all embarrassed about it

>Doesn't even try to discuss why the change took place
Dude, it's not that hard. The Nibelunglied became popular, Wagner and Tolkien went to town on it and other sources, and we ended up with the talking dragon as a staple.

Once dragons could talk, they needed to be more intelligent than us to inspire the same kind of awe. You didn't want Bob, the dragon from down the street. You needed something that was greater than us in the same way that a ravening beast was stronger than us. Because the idea was still supposed to be monstrous, and not sympathetic.

Then D&D came along, and someone decided that dragons should exist at all points of the alignment spectrum. Once that happened, things started snowballing, and you ended up with magical flying Jesus.

I'm not actually that averse to dragons being smarter, bigger, and stronger than mortals...so long as a reason is given. For instance, in one setting I've seen, dragons weren't actually native to the world. They were from the realm of dreams, given form by the fears and desires of mortals. The implication given was that their shapes and capabilities were affected by how people imagined dragons, so as society advanced, they became less bestial and more intelligent.

There is some... varied content in there. Most of it should be useful, though.

>More interesting dragon related things
I've got a question for you lot about dragons. A friend is making a setting, and we're gonna be playing a session sometime soon. It's vaguely steampunk-y, but he's added dragons. Lots of different types of dragons. The bit I'm querying is that one type of dragon (the "size of a table") has been domesticated to be a pet in the East Europe-analogue.

The dragons breath fire and can fly, plus being moderately large. What implications would this cause for an owner, and are they viable pets at all?

I'll be honest and say that a lot of my shit is from vore artists, but I just hoard images and every now and then purge my folder from blatantly explicit things. I'll go out of the way to say that it probably came from FurAffinity, though.

If I find it any time soon I'll let you know, though. But don't expect anything.

Seriously, there's a lot of really good art on FA, devoid of every trace of furfagottry. There's just also a fucking tonne of shit that, even if you turn SFW mode on, you can't escape. You just learn to accept it until you become a furfag yourself.

I was all about intelligent dragons when I was a child, and I still adore reptiles of all kinds, but the Internet has really soiled dragons for me. Dragon characters made by furries somehow completely lack the traits that make popular Tolkien style dragons appealing to begin with. Dragons in modern media are as stock and uninteresting as superficial stereotype characters like pirates and ninjas. The best ideas for dragons in this thread are the ones that ignore the archetype entirely and make them gross, ugly, fascinating chimeras like in the old days. What hope is there for Smaug's ilk now?
>>
I genuinely like intelligent dragons, so long as they're not just cats or dogs or other animals in dragon skin and seem to have a type of intelligence that's particular to their species; ie, not just human in dragon body either. Bizarrely alien thought processes in dragons is good, as is mundane hyperintelligence but with a dracocentric perspective/worldview.

That's the major selling point, anon.

All the characters are essentially psychotic wastes of space, almost utterly without redeeming features, and yet the game makes you care about them anyway.

Drakengard 3 is definitely the best in that regard, but 1 does a decent job of it. 2 is an odd case in that the antagonist (The protagonist from the first game) is one of the only good characters, but he's so fantastic that he almost totally redeems the game by himself.

Worth playing, if only so you can experience it yourself. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and the gameplay is average at best.

and you think you'll just play a little bit but then before you know it you're completing all of the endings even though you said you wouldn't and this game is stupid but you just CAN'T leave it on the stupid ending where everyone gets eaten by demon babies falling from the sky

that's a real ending

Ah, here's the right question.
The problem is that, being dirty furfags, it is difficult to find people that will take your artwork or writings seriously.

I stick to shitty furry sites because I know someone won't throw a hissy-fit when he sees a furry somewhere in your art or writings.

However, that is not to say I completely cut myself off. I post my not-furry stuff on Instagram, RP forums, Runnerhub, and Tumblr.

I also draw for my DM and help him create a setting from time to time.
It's impressive what can be thought up by two idiots bouncing ideas off each other.
>>
>>43837183
from your prior description I Thought your RPG stuff is non furry.
If it is furry, try order oft he stick, they love furries there and are pretty serious about role playing

just be 100% sure to make it SFW because they do not tolerate any NSFW
>>
>>43837183
This guy knows how I feel.
I can't discuss design ideas because most of my designs are anthros, even if I'm doing an effort to do an interesting world building.
My questions and discussions are only taken more seriously in anonymous communities like /tg/, but I'd like to have a place where I can remember people and chat with them while discussing our own worlds.

I'm seriously considering doing a skype group chat but I'm too shy for that.
>>
>>43837271
>I can't discuss design ideas because most of my designs are anthros,
is being furry integral to the design? I cannot imagine that it would ever come up, you can discuss how your race of "elves" does this and that without anyone ever knowing your "elves" are actually furries

I wanted to make the fact that they were animals, fundamental in the designs. Each animal family keep a direct relationship with an aspect of humanity and it's tailored to their everyday life and society.

It's true that I can use whatever race I wish to build a discussion, but it's kinda complicated talking about helmets and armor designs if I don't mention that they have a snout.

>>
>>43840572

>>
>>43840572

Yes. That's Perianwyr's whole dig pretty much. He's a scene dragon who's prone to excess alcohol consumption (which has to be volitional, because dragons are normally immune to the effects IIRC). He gets super drunk in human form and sobs about his recently dead boyfriend and how hard his life is, then passes out and, because he's unconscious, resumes dragon form.
>>
>>43816845
I should do this in my setting as well. I already had the idea that dragons date back to the ancient past, when the world was different, and nowdays are only rarely seen because the laws of nature aren't really conductive to their existence and they must use a lot of magic to sustain their existence (and thus spend most of their time in hibernation). Might as well make them full-on aberrations.

Could you not have both? Different kinds of dragons could have different levels of intelligence.

Also, who else prefers dragons with differences based on species rather than color?
>>
>>43841576
I read a book series that had dragons that were both. All dragons in the series start off life as unintelligent animals, the older they get the more intelligent they got, as well as their scales changing color. When they hit gold, they gain sapience, and all the other D&D dragon powers, including shape shifting, which is why no one has seen a gold dragon in millennia, because the dragons assume human form so they don't get hunted and killed because everyone thinks they're mindless monsters.
