A Starter army that you get with buying the game, you would need to select what starter army BTW.

Then keep everything as it is, Buy new models as transactions and paint them with a virtual painting thing.

DOW1/WA felt like it was pretty much on the mark. Maybe expand the army painter to include theming your army somewhat, giving your army specialisations that were locked in before game start, like chapters/regiments/craftworlds/hive fleets/etc. Nothing huge and gamebreaking, but enough to give some flavour and uniqueness to MP games.

Some bigger maps with more room to maneuver would be fun too. I know not every map was Into the Breach, but it still felt a bit cramped, and it made me feel like the fast attack units were pretty useless.

Let Inf and Vehicle cap be adjustable in the game options. If you were limited to 10 inf and 5 vehicle things would get interesting; likewise if you could set it to 30 or even 40 on bigger maps, and play an 8 player map with 2-4 people and high resource rate, shit would be cray.

Massive, lore heavy single-player campaign that alternates between M41 Blood Ravens fighting and dying in a counterassault to retake Cadia during the 13th Black Crusade and M37 Blood Ravens showing the rise of Azariah Vidya.

Base-building would be Multi-Player only. Single-player would have you controlling an entire battle company that suffers permanent casualties.

Keep it DoW 2 style (I am not a fan of base building) but with more races and units. Take some inspiration from the Elite mod. Also, different campaigns for each race, not that Retirubution bullshit, I'm talking fully different stories for each one.
Also, the return of Sisters of Battle as an army choice.

Armies that function quite differently. Company of Heroes 2, even if they are DLC, has shown that Relic can do different styles of armies. Speaking of commander/chapter/craftworld/whatever choices that work independent of heroes, if they keep that system.

Units with more to say. Relic does damn good voice/sound work, but compared to Company of Heroes, units feel lacking in chatter. Have guardsman bitching about the quality of rations, chaos dudes praying, Orks being Orks.

A campaign that isn't Space Marine wank. A campaign that either focuses on a different army, the entirety of Dawn of War 2's story was focused on them, even in Retribution where you weren't playing as them. Guard would be the most likely (and disappointing) choice, but still better.

Let's make this an actual wishlist. Playable Sister/Admech. Honestly, doing these two instead of guard and space marines would be cool, never going to happen but cool.

Less of a focus on wars of attrition and resource gathering, more of a focus on movement orders, positioning, having the right soldiers for the job, et cetera.

Most RTS games are won mostly through resource micromanagement and just letting your dudes do the fun part of the game for you, and that's not fun for me.

Well I guess it's technically feasible actually, it's just that no one will ever work on it, I would have been content with the close combat 40k mod but it was pretty shit: braindead ai, broken pathfinding, tau make the game crash, space marines die like ig because no armor in the game, melee troops are almost useless because the game is not made to do that (they obviously duck when under fire instead of charging, and even if you get in melee the wonky melee combat system means that dedicated eldar melee units may lose against ig fairly reliably), plus balance is a trainwreck: eldar have basically half of their companies composed by melee units most of the time, and since they suck you are at a disadvantage. You could try using ambushes sometimes but some genius thought that shuriken catapults, your main source of firepower, has an effective range of 75 meters. ww2 smgs in vanilla have 100 ffs. In the end the only reliable unit you have is the three man team of dark reapers, but due to los you'll almost never be able to use them effectively.

Forgive the rant but the disappointment was too much to handle. It's a real pity, because the ig roster is great and fleshed out and the sound effects were cool.

Yeah I'm a pretty big CoH fan and would be excited if they did this. The biggest thing I want added to this is a higher model count than the CoH games. 40K has gargantuan battles and I'd like to see that a bit more the game. Biggest problem I can see in that is if you go too big than micro becomes stupidly hard to do.

Wishlisting:

The ability to recruit or reject campaign characters, possibly branching the storyline (or not)
Greater focus on multiplayer mode
A way to mix certain factions in a plot-relevant way (like Imperial factions working together or Allies of Convenience)
Multiplayer mode should have highly customizable AI options, depending on the style of opponent desired.
Most of all: heavy support for modifications, and a system that's easy to modify. This is where I put all the creepy and disgusting things I want in the mods.
