Marcel shoveled the last piece of earth onto the grave. She was buried with all his failures to save her. He had shaved his head in the tradition his people, but felt no lighter. Inside their home the Alchemist had a noose waiting for him, but no amount of drink could take him to it. So he sent a letter to the guild for some high risk/high pay work and waited.
After eight days of staring at the rope a response came with another letter. Marcel's friends had noticed his request and demanded that he took someone familiar with him on this quest.
Choose:
>Muline: Daughter of two adventurer buddies from back in the day. She has taken both of her parents roles as a battle mage
>Sandy: Sassy Kobold rouge with strong opinions and keen insight. Marcel worked with her before he settled down.
>Desmond: Bishop Brother Matthew offers a paladin in training to assist Marcel in payment for all the help the Alchemist provided in the past.
>Richard: Count Bearington of the beastkin lands offers a knight in his service to be your bodyguard for this adventure.

A Tank is good. Plus, seems like we're kind of on the edge and looking for a mission tough enough to kill us. Let's not drag a friend down with us if our 'suicide by mission' plan works out.

"You must be Richard," said the red nosed Alchemist.
"That is right human. Who else is great enough to protect the friends of the great Count Bearington! No harm shall come to you while I, RICHARD, is around."
Marcel thought he should have requested Sandy. She might have been slightly less obnoxious.

At the guild they meet their client who had hired several other adventurers and workers. She referred herself as an archaeologist.
"It is great to bring such experience to my team," said the Professor. "Before I brief you with the details, do you want anything to eat?"

"Maybe next time." She sends one of her workers to go get the order and then places some maps on the table. "Our expedition is in the ruins of an ancient beastkin."
Marcel tapped a symbol on the map. "The cult of Snarrk. Snake worshipers."

Marcel grumbled and took the wine bottle out of the waiter's hand.
"So you've had run ins with the cult of Snarrk?"
"Yeah, that's how I ended with this guy, but I guessing this ruin is from back in day when they were something."
"Oh yes," she said while pulling out a thick notebook. "I've been studying them for the past three years trying to nap this expedition from the wizard's guild. I also have backers from the Church of light and the Beastkin Queendom."

"So how did you find your information?"
"It started with a few reports from the Beastkin Queendom, some mention you. I got fragments here and there in the archives. Mostly the Wizard guild is interested in their conjuration magic in making sustainable gates."
Marcel politely nodded as the professor went on to talk about cultural and historical significance of this expedition. His mind drifted to the past missions and the cultist's fondness for poison. It would be a quick death from an old foe.
"Well I'm going to take my rest for evening. See at first light."

Marcel got up early so he could find a comfortable spot on in a cart. It didn't take long to finish a bottle of wine and sink into drunken slumber. He was waken hours later to a minstrel playing.

Might as well see the protection the Professor had hired. Marcel approached the men on horseback and saw that most wore the bronze level crest and handful of copper level too. He started to get worried until he saw the iron level adventurer.

Wraith chalk
Lumps of chalk which are both black and a color. It does not glow in the dark, but it can be seen in total blackness, much like the afterimage of light. It was made by a godless man who believes mankind does not need higher powers to illuminate their path.

Stygium
>In raw form, Stygium appears as translucent, smokey-gray shards, almost like brittle feathers.
>They are formed from the spiritual residue shed by departed souls as they cast off their worldly attachments.
>Stygium can only be touched and held by living creatures and ghosts, as such it often only finds its way in the hands of exorcists or people close to the recently deceased.

>This property naturally makes it very difficult to heat and work into usable tools, and has a tendency to fall into the depths of the world and join the cycle of renewal.
>Due to its nature, Stygium weapons pass through most forms of defense and strike directly at the target. It is also of particular use against ghosts and spirits. Great care should be taken, though: Stygium does nothing against undead, constructs, and magical entities.

Strangleweed
>Strangleweed, once thought to be an annoying plant, has been recently discovered to have a surprising number of uses after being processed.
>With careful harvest, and excessive boiling in specially treated vats, strands of this grass can be refined into a flexible, but very strong material.
>Not quite as soft as silk, it finds its place in more practical products such as rope, whips and harnesses.
