Trying to find a reference pic for a major NPC in my traveller campaign that's been in a war zone and old enough to have 2 kids. But it seems I'm stuck with creepy looking art, or they're all super kawaii with a eye patch.

i'd say not impossible. I have a scar over my eye from an accident at work where a jagged piece of metal racking fell and hit me above the eyebrow just infront of my temple, tore the skin up, hit ridge of bone above my eye and then went down across my cheek. Hurt like a motherfucker and bleed alot but it just missed my eye. I did get to look like a badass for a month though,

The main reason why the eyesocket is the shape it is (with the brow and cheekbone lining up mostly), instead of having bulging bug eyes, is to deflect blows and protect the eyeball from large object impacts. If everytime you got hit in the face you hit the eyes then everyone would be blind before their 3.
Swords could also be raked across the face in a struggle as opposed to a true sword strike. Could also be a dagger wound or claw wound from an animal of some description.
Or they had an unforchunate accident with spontaniously erupting metal chunks (machines, shrapnel, grenades, etc).

Yes, but it's be a rare occurrence. The slice makes sense if it was made by the tip of a blade connecting during a vertical slash. However, depending on the shape of the forehead (how much it slopes), the wound would either be shorter at the brow, or go all the way to the scalp. Another factor would be the cheekbone. It it wasn't pronounced, the wound might not stop just short of the eye, but earlier, with a larger gap between the cheek wound and the brow wound.
HOWEVER, in a melee fight, the subject that receives the wound is very likely to be wincing from exertion and anger, which would cause the flesh on the cheek to pronounce under the eye, making that wound absolutely possible by accident.

Enhancement aside, it is WAY easier to gives someone an artificial joint or leg than cure the systemic self destruction of said joint, limb, or part.
