Clerics aren't like MMO healers that just press the one button. They actually get mad spellz, not destructive spells like arcane casters but just as powerful. And they can hit shit with a mace while wielding a shield (as their holy symbol). Oh, and they get medium or heavy armor.

Clerics can easily be the most OP members of the party, just by buffing their own stats to absurd levels before a fight, and persisting said buffs to last all day.

Healing in combat is sub-optimal. The proper powergaming way to do it is to have wands and scrolls of heal instead, and build all your spells around dealing damage, preventing damage, or helping other members of the party do those things better.

In D&D, healing isn't nearly as useful as just killing anything before it can hurt you. Waste a turn healing and it turns into a spiral of trying to heal while the enemy redoes all that damage next turn.

Drinking when not on phone, check.
For what it's worth the drinking makes it super easy to roleplay as a drunken savage looking for a fight.
