>some confusion, there's no leader since they were meant to just escort and help the party if necessary
>after a while they point to the strongest fighter
>paladin walks up to them
>"we won't be requiring your services any longer"
>merc shrugs and turns around to walk away
>paladin slits his throat while his back is turned
>panic ensues and half the mercs try to flee
>paladin chases them down and executed them, burning two horses to death trying to hit one hiding under the rear carriage with a Molotov
>rest of the party watches in horror as the paladin kills the rest of the mercs

So, was the paladin justified? Did the assassin react rashly? What should happen to them both?

In the fight with the assassin, he downed invisibility potions, invulnerability potions and had an infinite supply of molotovs, which he used to burn down the other carriages and tried to kill the assassin's dire wolf familiar

Unfortunately, he rolls more 20s than anyone I've seen. Hell, we fought a dragon later and I missed 90% of my shots and rolled a 1 that resulted in it landing on top of my character, whereas he rolled 20 twice.

You can do the nice guy thing and IC kick him out of the party. If he just goes on killing sprees like that, then it's unlikely anyone wants to be associated with him.

Later in the dragon fight I got sprayed with acid, had to strip my armour and then got clamped in it's jaws purely because I fudged the rollsI then punched the dragon in the eye destroying said eye
The dm's told him evil acts with make him fall and he won't be able to recover his status as a paladin, and too many chaotic deeds will make him fall too, but they've been friends since they were kids so I think he'd throw a fit if the dm actually did anything

As someone who's played every incarnation of paladins in most systems, I don't think that flies in ANY of them.
Tell your GM that he needs to fall, and that even if they're friends, he can't shit things up for everyone else because of his buddy.
He just wakes up and can't use any of his holy abilities anymore.
