Dragonblood may actually yield better results than the others in that situation, depending on if the Heartless can absorb exaltations otherwise, possibly permanently removing it from the cycle if it could work on other forms (might be a catalyst for changing a Solar Exaltation to an Abyssal or Infernal if that is the case). Would there also be Nobodies born from it?

Last played in the 40k universe. So, Heartless in the Grimdark? Sounds like a normal Tuesday night for the Imperium.
My players, whether they know it or not, are on a long winded quest to make friends and stand against an ancient evil.
I think they would handle the heartless with gusto and never know why it was so easy.

Yes, sort of. I don't know if you can put them in balls, but if you have enough darkness in your heart and a mind strong enough to control it, then they'll take orders from you. I guess you could consider darkness like a badge requirement. Except instead of taking a nap at too high a level, they eat you and turn you into one of them at the first sign of weakness/loss of control.

Even with this approach, mind you, you should be careful. They can and will Heartless-ize you if you give them any kind of opening to or if you let yourself slip too far into darkness(see: Jafar being corrupted from the first game)

Jafar never turned into a Heartless, did he? He turned into a genie, then got stuck in a lamp, then Sora killed him.
It was implied that Clayton sort of turned into a Heartless, which is why he didn't talk during his boss battle even though he still looked like himself. And Scar did too, but only after he died. I think it's just them and Dragon Maleficent, but that's kind of a special case.

This. In the actual game Heartless were not a global threat, but a galactic inter dimensional threat on the same level as stuff like Tyranids. They fucked up whole worlds and would have fucked up even more if not specifically because of Sora.
I suppose it would depend on if there was a power that was similar to the keyblades in the setting, not in power level but in it's ability to safe guard a world's heart.

It's not that they're immune. They can be killed by conventional weapons, but only a Keyblade can send the lost hearts back to Kingdom Hearts to be reborn. Otherwise they just sink back into darkness.

A heart of pure light and a heart of pure darkness, both of extreme and perfectly equal strength, have to clash together. The X-blade was originally the counterpart to Kingdom Hearts and a protector of it, but it vanished after the Keyblade War.
There's an overarching plot in the KH series about how Xehanort keeps trying to re-make it (and keeps failing) so he can take it for himself and have all power by accessing the Heart of All Worlds (which would have all wisdom and knowledge, and thus all power).

Souls are an actual thing in Kingdom Hearts. KH II explains a person is made up of A body, a soul, and a heart. When the soul leaves, the person dies, but most of the other stuff a soul usually does is instead a function of the heart. Except when a strong willed person has there heart stolen, then their soul can "fake" all the things usually done by the heart, thus making a Nobody.

The canon version of the Heartless wouldn't even be a big deal in the Kingdom Hearts RPG I run ages ago because I pretty much had to make up new metaphysics, because this pretty much Special Snowflake: The Videogame.
