I think he's talking about the overall "Lack of emotion/connection with humans" as a low essence is portrayed as.

Personally, Think Glory. She's cold, matter of fact, ect. But all the emotions she should/would be feeling are there, they're just much harder to bring out and need more coaxing. The sort of thing you only do with close friends.
>>
>>43442561
I make them have some unsettling twitch in their behaviour, like people being spooked by they odd bone shape and their ultra-fast movements. The feeling that you are looking at someone that is visibly artificial and you can't pinpoint what.

I'm making a character who, out of the gate, may be sitting at .02 essence out of the gate. I'm wanting to portray him as loud, animated, and... emotion isn't the right word, but you get the jist.

The drawback is that he almost always forgets what he is. Like, he has 10 strength. He will never not use lethal force, mostly because he doesn't realize it's letha, even if he's being friendly.

The emotion he displays most will probably be angry/frustrated, though not a cliche "mad at the world" more just that anything can piss him off.

Of couse being (mostly) playfully racist won't help anything.

While it helps that your ware isn't obvious, but when you essence is super low you're behaving more like a program than a man.
>>
>>43442692

Hmm... alright. The idea was him no longer giving a fuck about people or things in general, his whims swaying from time to time.

Like, he might want a hotdog. Nothing in the world will stop him from going to the local stuffer shack to get him a (soy) hotdog. But, if they're out, he may destroy half the building (or at least throw the empty carousel and tip over an aisle or two) in response

>[...] despite all the hype that “cyberpsychosis” gets in the press, the actual number of such incidents has been remarkably low. Sure, sociopathic tendencies can result from the sense of empowerment and invincibility that comes with extensive augmentations, just as heavy mods can spur an increased sense of alienation and detachment from everyday reality and metahumanity. The doctors and modshops know what to look for now, though, and mandatory counseling and drug treatments are now par for the course with certain levels of enhancement.

... You got your mods from somewhere reputable, right? They didn't just ditch you outside with an instruction manual?

I imagine accounting firms are still out there, but that the majority of the big-ticket audits are done by the Corporate Court. They're the only ones who can ask Renraku to open up their books. As well, I'm sure the megas and nations do their own internal audits regularly, and publish the results, like modern governments.

So what kind of drones do you want to see in the rigger book, /tg/?

Personally, I'd love to see a firing platform. Not very heavily armoured, but able to mount a few different weapons, with claws designed to climb the sides of buildings and affix itself there, scanning the area with sensors and raining assault cannon rounds and sniper bullets on targets. Military surplus fresh off the streets of Bogata.

Pick one. Drones are a goddamn disgrace in 5e. Insult to injury, most are fragile enough that pointing an AR in their general direction is enough to wreck them.

12 dice is plenty for spraying automatic fire around suppressing average corpsec (YSRMV).

It's a tricky balance because if the drones are too tough, it's way better to just send in a bunch of drones and let them take the hits than it is for anyone on the team to play a troll. I agree they're very fragile right now, but I'm not sure Catalyst can swing the pendulum back the other way safely.
>>
>>43443988
Well, I did have an idea (coming from someone who posted several generals back) for a reclusive rigger who acted exclusively through remotely controlled/jumped-in drone copies, including remotely controlling the team van. It's impossible to do (efficiently at least) in 5E. So humanoid drones that can take at least a little beating, even if they have to be jumped in, would be nice so I'm not constantly buying new Duelists with gun mounts instead.

Disfunctional Chaos- The Group? That can be fun, too. Possibly not too long lived, but it's definitely a good stress-test for new players or GMs, since even when played 100% black hat, shit can hit the fan very fast in SR.

Personally, with a char that is prone to flipping out, I would give them a few triggers that push them over the edge. I know "trigger" is a terrible word on 4chan, but fuck that shit right now and consider that it will make your character predictable and managable, and allow your party to plan around his flaws, rather than having to spring them on them at every given moment, simply because he didn't get what he wants.
>>

>It's a tricky balance because if the drones are too tough, it's way better to just send in a bunch of drones and let them take the hits.

That's only true in a stand-up fight where two sides conveniently shoot at each other. Drones are dumb, the moment anything happens they start testing whether their program can cope, so good luck having them do anything complex without a rigger jumped in.

Nown the obligation to have a human brain connected to the drone somehow is a good one., but any drone that is designed to serve as a rigger's "replacement body" should be tough enough that the poor guy doesn't take biofeedback/dumpshock every ten steps.
>>
>>43445982
>biofeedback
Is only 1/2 of the damage your drone received, rounded down. Even if your drone just got one-shot with 8 post-soak damage, you're still only looking at having to resist 4S biofeedback, using your full Willpower+Firewall rating on your RCC.

>dumpshock
Is not something you take when your drone is destroyed. You're connected through your RCC, not directly to the drone, so as long as you remain in VR connected to your RCC you're good. You just take the biofeedback from the shot that killed your drone.

The trick to having functional riggers isn't making drones tougher, it's making them cheaper to repair.
>>
quick question, can restricted gear be used to get higher grade ware? like beta or deltaware?
>>
>>43446364
It's a separate limitation. Restricted gear deals with availability, not 'ware grades.
>>
>>43446114
>dumpshock is not something you take when your drone is destroyed.

Uh-uh...
Core pg. 268-269:
>GETTING DUMPED
>No, we don’t mean the “let’s be friends” conversation - we’ve all been there, chummer -we mean getting booted out of something you’ve jumped into. Riggers can be forcefully ejected from their jumped-in vehicles in three nasty ways. First, if the vehicle is destroyed or
bricked, you’re dumped.

You were saying?

>The trick to having functional riggers isn't making drones tougher
Yes. Yes, it is.
>>
>>43445369

Wait really? How would you improve the Autosoft otherwise? How do you increase your skill to use the drone without jumping into it?
>>
>>43446496
You don't because 5e hates anyone who didn't pick MysAd at character creation?
>>
>>43446453

That's only if you're jumped into the vehicle/drone, but if you set up a PAN and slave the drones to your RCC and have them go off of their Autosofts, then you just get biofeed back. I think that's what they >>43446114 were trying to say, I'm not that Anon.
>>
>>43446496
If 5e still has the software skill for writing programs, consider spending time to write your own pilot proggy or rating INSANE autosoft.
>>
>>43446364
>restricted gear be used to get higher grade ware?
No.
>>
>>43446496
You can buy autosofts. But you cannot buy a better base Pilot score. Every drone with the exception of the Aztechnology Crawler - which has Pilot 4 - all drones are strictly limited to Pilot 3, in 5e.

At least until the rigger book comes out.
>>
No, if you're on remote through your comlink on autosoft through your RCC (or physically at the wheel for vehicles), you get no damage at all.

You take half the damage your drone/vehicle suffers as biofeedback only when you're jumped in (either through direct connection or RCC.) as explained in the rigger section pg. 266

On top of that, while jumped in, if:
- You vehicle/drone bites the bullet
- Your RCC gets busted by Matrix damage (or shot by a joker)
- Your direct connection to the vehicle gets severed
then you eat a dumpshock.

Which means that when your drone gets one-shotted, you eat two hits in succession, one for the damage, one for the dumpshock. With the advantage of adding your RCC's firewall to your WIL to resist it, unlike when the RCC gets it or when you're connected directly with your rig to your car. (Do your best to preserve your car, use the RCC anyway or jump out in time.)
>>
What kind of Advice would /srg/ give to someone who wants to make a Dodge Tank?
>>
>>43446703
Honestly, riggers, archtypically, should be tinkerers who mod and handcraft their own drones.. If 5e doesn't have rules for improving the pilot rating, look to prior editions and talk to your GM what you need in terms of tools and materials, as well as skills, to do just that.
>>
>>43446717
>What kind of Advice would /srg/ give to someone who wants to make a Dodge Tank?
Don't.

No, seriously, just don't.

You take a -9 to dodge when someone fires an automatic weapon at you.

Dodging isn't, mathematically, actually a thing in 5e. It's just a way to occasionally supplement your Soak.
>>
>>43446717
Ruthemium Polymer and creative illusions are your friend.
>>
>>43446750
In my experience, most groups just use Chummer. Until Chummer5 has the means to modify a drone's Pilot score, it's more hassle than it's worth to try to play a fundamentally non-functional concept like that.
>>
>>43446761

Alright, thanks for the advice

>>43446771

Thank you too, anon
>>
>>43446779
Chummer's nice for chargen, but it's kind of impractical to have at a physical gaming table...
>>
>>43446802
Np. Consider that if you want to tank using dodge, that when you get hit you will get hurt badly. So, ideally, you want something to tank FOR you that will draw fire and can't be hurt. That's where knowing decent illusion spells comes in handy. It won't work forever, but it might work for the first couple of rounds until the enemy notices the illusion isn't actually firing back.

Longevity of the ruse (and your spirit, possibly) increases if you stick a spirit inside the illusion and order it to use, say, fire blasts out of the illusionary flamethrower's muzzle.
>>
>>43446717
- High REA, Wired Reflexes + Reaction Boosters, - High Int, Cerebellum booster.
To get a very good initiative.

Maxxed out agility and Muscle toner as high as you can get + Agile Defender.

Then each turn you sacrifice 10 init to go on Full Defense and Roll AGI + REA + INT against any incoming blow.

Just make sure to get a decent armore score just to only eat stun when you ever get surprised.
>>
>>43446717
For an adept? Combat Sense, Improved Ability (Reaction), a Qi Focus with Adept Spell (Deflection) on it.

You could also go Acrobatic Defender with a Cat Mentor and Improved Ability (Gymnastics) as well as Improved Physical Limit.
>>
>>43446883
>dodging as a samurai
Only Adepts get truly good dodge scores, and even they're fucked against automatic weapons.
>>
>>43447158
Dunno, you can get around 25 dodge at chargen as a sam with that build, which still leaves you with 15 vs. an all-inclusive full auto burst.

Doesn't looks that bad to me, even if I would recommend going turtle with armor and soak augs.

I'm still not clear on adepts and essence loss; is there any negative effect at all to spending 1 Essence on bioware as an Adept?

Based on the way Geas works, I'd assume it's the case, but there doesn't seem to be anything.

Everytime you lose Essence, you lose Magic. The number of Power Points you have is linked to you Magic attribute. So if you lose Essence, you lose powers.
>>
Sup /srg/. We've just started Lockdown and are on our way to Boston and I want to know (its a hard ask) what the general effects to a PC is from CFD without spoilers to the book; like can you continue on if you get infected (ie like HMHVV) or are you out of the game?.

Shadowrun has a kinda anti-transhumanist bent to it with the whole cybernetics will eat your soul angle but Im playing a max logic/intuition boosted decker with an attraction to the odd, so how screwed am I?
>>
>>43447472

Not very often, but the times I've seem it, the response has been pretty friendly. What's on your mind, omae?
>>
>>43447440
You trade cyberware for adept powers in the short term. Given your magic can scale up infinitely and you can grab extra power points with every initiation, it's honestly not a bad idea.
>>
>>43447440
Yes. You lose 1 point of maimum Magic, 1 point of actual Magic and 1 Power Point.

Make sure whatever 'ware you take is worth that power point.
>>
>>43447440
As >>43447481 said, you loose magic rating
That said spending that essance point will get you things that a single power point wont, cyber and bioware has some advantages over magic
>>
>>43447481
>>43447513
>>43447527

Just remember that it is every FULL point of essence you lose. So, if you get a sleep regulator, and drop to 5.9 essence, you lose one magic. But, then you have .9 essence left to spend on whatever the fuck you feel like. And, because you're magical and mostly relying on your karma for progression, you should have more funds to dedicate towards getting Betaware, or even Delta, depending on how nice your GM is.
>>
>>43447472
A few. I am a newbie GM myself, and I keep lurking here to read what advice the others get.
Also to build up my Cyberpunk Pics database

>>43447498
I have not followed everything about it, but CFD is pretty much a death sentence. Many attempts at a cure have failed, and what was considered the best solution last I checked required a combination of intensive blood cleansing, Resonance attacks and sheer willpower.
Guess it's up to your GM.
>>
Has anyone tried building an experimental transhuman bio-adept yet?

What's the best bioware to buy with that 1 free point of essence lost?
>>
>>43447582
Pretty much. I find the sweet spot is around 4 essence for adepts. You can get everything you need right away with 4 power points, supplement the missing ini passes with an auto-injector and some cram and have 2 full essence points to slowly upgrade into delta grade wares for things your adept powers can't do when money begins to trickle in.
>>
>>43447498
Lockdown has a special kind of CFD that is different from the normal one. You can recover from it, somewhat, but it's a hard test and the affected character will probably be unavailable for a while.

Had a halloween party on the weekend and my lads ended up getting into a discussion (these are some pretty close lads, too, had campaigns with them before [though I wasn't DMing them-- that's new to me]) about shadowrun/cyberpunk in general. Put on some Mega Drive / VHS Glitch and just started talking about the game; they discussed characters they'd love to play (for actual roleplay/getting into the characters, too, not just 'goofy whacky nonsense'). I said, fuck it, I'll learn how to DM for these guys. Really love the whole tone of the game, I can't NOT at least try to DM.

So my main issue is, I'm looking through a mediafire listing, and there's a literal TON of documents in it-- Mediafire requires a "pro" account to bulk download. So I'm staring at these tabs (pic related), wondering if I really need all these documents for DMing, or if I can cut out a bit of the bulk, or get a step-by-step, which-pdfs-first kind of thing. I want to get launched into the game within the month-- I've just got past my midterms (one more this week though, but after that it's free range). I also need to grab a job... though, I'm thinking thursdays are a great day for sessions since nothing much goes on those days. Weekends my lads tend to be working.

So, where do I start? It's all a big dump on my brain at the moment and it can't sort through the papers
>>
>>43447583
Yeah Ive read that as well. But what if you dont want to get rid of your new brain mate; there is people who function with CFD, does that apply to PCs?

>>
>>43447621
You start with the quickstart. Then with the core rule book.

And once you've played through the quickstart with your players, read the core rulebook 'til your eyes bleed and you need cybereyes and played a couple more sessions, you stick to core.

Then, and only then, do you start adding ballast.
>>
>>43447621
Start with choosing an edition then only grabing the core book and an adventure. Once youve played a session or two get a couple of the expansions and so on. If you dont like it try a different edition
>>
>>43447621
Start at the core book and the quick-start rules (if they are not in the Pastebin, check Catalyst Game Lab's website

Which edition did you pick? I'm more familiar with 5th Ed, and if you find that the Core rulebook does not cover enough ground, you should check Run&Gun and Run Faster, respectively the Combat and Character Creation splatbooks.

>>43447640
Some do. But the new personality is, well, a new personality. Say goodbye to the rigger. Maybe you could play it as the two characters taking turn, but honestly I wouldn't want to have a guy that can turn from Bob the rigger to Joe the AI without warning in the middle of a run.

Dump this in the data folder, it'll give you mods that can set the pilot rating.
>>
>>43447669
Alright, so a few quickstarts while I scour the pages of the core rulebook? My one lad who's really experienced in DMing said to run a premade campaign and add bits into it.
>>43447697
We've decided on 5e. Or, at least, the most experienced player has. And I agree with him, because he's a wicked DM and a fantastic player.
>>43447705
Got Run&Gun and Run Faster downloaded. I'm trying to frantically download as much as I can, but MediaFire sucks wieners.
>>
>>43447719
Dude, those are 400 pages books, you have plenty of time once a single one of them is downloaded ;)

The "introduction" adventure for 5th ED is either Fast Food Fight (which you can find for free on CLG's website) to get a light first session and learn the mechanics, or Splintered State for a true introduction to the setting.
>>
>>43447498
If you get CFD, you're fucked. No known cure, and your character will be drastically altered personality-wise.

Don't get infected.
>>
>>43447621
You know you can bulk-download with mega, right?

You don't need an account or anything, just select everything, hit download, and then agrre to allow simultaneous downloads.
>>
>>43447922
But this is MediaFire
>>
>>43447960
Yeah, but the Mega is in the pastebin as well; if you can see one, you can see the other.
>>
>>43447990
Oh, my friend gave me a link to the MediaFire one. Whoops! I've already downloaded 50% of the tabs of MediaFire I had opened, so it's useless to Mega it now
>>
>>43447880
Ok but how is the personality changed? The character is already pretty fucked in the head, he's a sociopathic robot (mentally and before essence loss) who betrayed one of his best freinds to get out of the Vory because he was getting bored editing snuff flicks. Most changes to his personality will make him a nicer character but now with multi-processing.
>>
>>43448179
It's not so much that your personality changes, but that a new one starts to overwrite the former. And that new one can be ANYTHING.
>>
>>43448179
Multiple Pesronality Disorder.

When the AI is in charge, he is someone else. And then it depends on what kind of AI he inherited.
>>
>>43448179
Your mind gets taken over by an almost-certainly hostile personality, potentially with no concept of the world or human life. Alternatively, several personalities move in and fight over your meat suit.

Your character effectively dies once they get CFD, but the body still moves around. No multi-processing.

A traitorous sociopath snuff film editor is about as shitty as a person can be, so your group/GM may tolerate you being the new personality, but don't count on it. Shouldn't expect a better character from a namefag
>>
>>43448264
They're not immediately dead, and there are two ways to end CFD infection. One they've given officially, which only works in some cases, while the other relies on the interaction between nanite volume (lowers by month unless you consume in/organic matter) and the nutrition spell. Chances are you'll be addicted to the spell afterwards, but you'll be 100% no one but you in a few months.
>>
>>43448373
IIRC, there's no way to drop the volume of nanites to nothing; you can use treatments to keep it low, but per described fluff they'll go dormant and come back rather than the NV dropping to 0.
>>
How quickly does the drek hit the fan in your campaigns?

Mine basically started a Mob war between the Vory and the Octagon Triad after a grand total of two runs, and what I'm curious about is how much this is in or outside of the norm.
>>
>>43448439
>Unlike in most nanotech cases, where the nanites wear out and the Rating drops over time, nanites that are CFD infected have developed a way to reproduce. As long as the head case ingests food, the nanites are able to create soft nanites at a rate of +1 NV every week. If the head case can eat some inorganic materials, the nanites can create hard nanites at the same rate. That means a feeding head case increases their nanite count at a rate higher than the degradation of old nanites (–1/month), which are often recycled if they have not been flushed from the body by injury or waste evacuation.

As I said.

>>
>>43446814
My GM uses it, his laptop is his GM screen and everyone goes paperless and emails him their sheets.
>>
>>43448664
Well, background is the Tir had expansionistic plans for a silent take-over in Seattle. They were tasked to put the eye of the public on these plans by a group of concerned citizens and spent two IC weeks bouncing around ideas and literally doing nothing about it. The plan they agreed to was to create noise in the system about Tir agents and potential pro-Tir terrorist cells, to create a climate in which the Tir could not proceed with its infiltration.

They did jack shit and the result was that, when pressed for time, the Johnsons went public with the info and the UCAS, in silent coalition with Ares, whose business interests in the Tir were waning and verging on non-profitable, declared war. California quickly pitched in, ofc. The Salish-Sidhe are on the fence currently.

The runners are trying to hightail it to the CAS in the meantime to get out of the line of fire.
>>
>>43448827
Serves the keebs right.

I wonder how hard the NANs would shit themselves if the CAS and the UCAS merge again. Probably about as hard as Poland would if the Allied German States reunite again.
>>
>>43448827
Good ol' paranoia and option paralysis. These are the times where you need a loose cannon.
>>
>>43448827
I'm not sure if our situation is better or worse.
(This is the anon whose group started a mob war.)

First run was a complete clusterfuck. We had two fewer players than we were planning on, and there was basically no legwork done. The run was simple -- the Johnson contracted to steal a datachip with financial records from a fairly nondescript building. As far as we knew, security was light.

Not so.
Our current party, who was composed of a Vory cyber-banshee, an elven face, and a monkey-dwarf technomancer, met up by the building. The techno, without a word of warning to anyone else on the team, crashed the alarm system. So the banshee took that signal to mean "It's go time" and strolled right the fuck inside.

The entrance was blocked off with a wall of ballistic glass, behind which was a guard booth. There was the standard "Can I help you?", which was met only with the banshee punching a six-foot-high hole in the ballistic glass.

Initiative was rolled, and the guard was subdued within a single combat round.

And here's where the shit hit the fan.

What kind of prime runners are your guys if the only two options on the table were 'these runners solve a secret Tir invasion' or 'we start a war'?

That is some serious fucking pressure on a team of totally loyal UCAS secret agents, let alone runners on their 4th job.
>>
>>43449098
There were many, many other potential outcomes, but the fact that they did nothing for two weeks straight involving their mission and got insanely hung up on planning provided the worst case scenario, which was war. Had they done anything, anything at all, it's quite possible it could have been avoided with relative ease.

That said, the Tir is in a precarious situation where it is, on the one hand, discretely imperialistic. On the other, its main reason for existence is being more trouble than it's worth to invade. With the Seattle endeavour out in the open, it suddenly became WORTH the trouble to invade, so, its days are numbered. This is where expansionistic greed and hubris meets the rest of the world and the rest of the world decided to say "nope".

>>43448943
Yeah, they could really use one in those cases.

>>43448940
Good question. It's unlikely, though, given the different outlooks of the two nations.
>>
>>43449058
(cont)

The techno ran in, taking position in the guard booth, and the face sprinted into the stairwell. Peeking onto the second floor, he saw a group of 8 armed guards making their way into the elevator. The banshee tossed a flashbang at the elevator entrance, preparing an action to wirelessly detonate it when the doors open.

We forgot that the techno was within the blast radius.

The doors opened, the flashbang set off, doing anywhere from 5-8 stun damage to everyone caught within. This included the team's technomancer. The combat took another turn, with the banshee tossing a couple flashbangs more, dodging hails of bullets, and with the guards either passing the fuck out, shooting, or tossing gas grenades.

Now, none of us remembered to wear respirators.

End of combat turn, techno runs out of the building, throws his guts up, and passes out. The banshee does the same to the same effect.

While this shit is going on, the face is the real MVP of the party, bluffing his way into acquiring the chip AND blackmailing the Johnson once he got the hell out of dodge.

The other two members were captured and shipped off to a medical facility.

Should I continue?

I meant more along the lines of 'why did the UCAS pin all their hopes on these guys?' It seems very strange for a national government to cede that amount of power to a handful of mercenaries.

I can see them hiring the runners to work against the Tir agents, but that their only recourse when those runners didn't do the job was to throw up their hands and start a war is stretching credibility.

Did they not pay attention to the team and maybe ask for status updates about the future of Seattle, or give them a prod when they hadn't done anything after a week? Did they not have any spin doctors working back channels, letting the knife-ears know that they knew about the plan, and that it would all fall apart if the UCAS went public?
>>
>>43449347
Oh, no, the UCAS didn't hire them. The UCAS is more than happy to stomp the Tir out of existence and split Oregon in four with Ares, Aztec and Cali.

They got hired by a conglomerate of local businessmen and criminals to solve the issue, before the UCAS decides to solve it in its own way.

Magic groups like the Draco Foundation, that mage policlub, and others who don't want people to go around making provocative claims about magic, it's origin, or it's purpose.

Probably whatever country he's in, because Jesus' doctrine is pretty radical and they don't want crowds of people heading across country to join this flock and start doing things like chasing the moneylenders out of the temple, discarding their worldly possessions, and preaching everywhere. If evil forces rule the world, and the world holds certain virtues to be the best, then the opposite of those virtues must be what the real God wants.

Okay, someone explain what's going on with Greenwar, please. From what I can discover, back in 2e's Germany sourcebook

>"Greenwar International has 3000 activist “commandos” and over 5 million sympathizers. They are responsible for a number of attacks against polluters, including the sinking of the last Japanese whaling fleet in the Pacific. They avoid taking life whenever possible, preferring to damage capital rather than human assets. Greenwar are not above taking hostages from corporations. If a corp refuses to ransom its hostages, they tell them so, and then sell them off to other corporations, following the usual procedures for speculative extractions. (If they catch anyone who sets policy for polluting corporations, they tend to conjure up a big nature spirit near a large group of potentially dangerous wildlife and ask the spirit to judge.)"

But come Ten Terrorists, they're an ecotage apocalypse cult that believes Metahumanity has to go extinct?

>"The most radical eco-terrorist group in theworld, GreenWar believes the only way to restore Mother Earth to her un-ravaged state is to simply eradicate all metahuman life. Plainly, we are blight on the world that can never be taught to respect nature. We must all die. GreenWar had success in earlier decades, claiming responsibility for such catastrophes as making the Scottish Fringe Zone
into a toxic no-man’s land. However, in the past years, GreenWar has suffered from leadership struggles as well as basically being on everyone’s hit list, including other eco-terrorist outfits."

I was using Greenwar in one of my character's backstories as where they got their infiltrator training, but the new version of them is far crazier and It doesn't fit the character anymore. What other ecotage groups exist that I can use for backstory purposes?

Second session rolls around. Here's what we know. Turns out our Johnson was a UCAS tax agent looking to make a sweet 500k through blackmail, and the place we hit? A subsidiary of a subsidiary of Horizon.

So this basically means deep shit, and our Banshee and Techno might have never seen the light of day. Luckily enough, our Banshee outlived her usefulness, so our Face got a call about her. They had a mission for us, which on no uncertain terms involved fucking over the old Johnson and getting the chip back.

Most smart runners would have said no then and there, but our runners were neither smart nor in a position to turn this job down. Our GM pulled out the whole 24-hour delayed poison trick, to give us some incentive.

So the rest of the team meets up, and now we've a murderhobo cyber-banshee with 24 hours to live, a dark and broody face, another technomancer, who just happens to be a simsense star in his daytime activity, an elven Aztlan pitfighter with a bakery and adoptive 8-year-old daughter to take care of, and a human mage with a morbid curiosity.

So after more legwork than was reasonable, mind control of a Chinese mobster and his elven hookers, and breaking into our old Johnson's apartment, we find out that he's making a deal with the Octagon Triad on the Tocoma docks.

So we ambush the deal -- the combat took all of a single turn. The chip's recovered, after some shenanigans with a sunken boat, and all's fine and well, even as we return the chip.

Three days later, we get a call from our fixer. Turns out, one of the Chinamen put a hit out on all of us -- 15k alive, 10k dead, each.

And that was the start of the Christmas War between the Octagon Triad and the Seattle Vory.

Our banshee called up some of her Vor contacts, telling them that there was a hit out on her by the Chinese. That was all the casus belli they needed to escalate their conflicts into a full-blown war, after a failed assault on Chinese holdings.

We once had a short campaign where the secondary antagonist was a rival group of runners whose specialty was in being scary good at manipulation and whatnot. Anything good happens and they take credit for it, and any time they fucked up they framed us for it. Ended up getting us in trouble with a multinational cartel ran by Not Walter White. Not to say they weren't competent as runners in their own right, just ridiculously slimy.

It was fun, because we were used to runners at least being seen among each other as alright and this time we were almost universally vilified because of that group.

The way I see it, recurring antagonists are the most fun when their methods are more indirect than 'send hired goobs to shoot at the party'. Our most memorable encounters have been the ones centered around bad guys who specialise in stuff other than direct combat but use their talents to their full advantage.

Bait taken and rejected. Good enough for me.

On topic, is it just me, or is the Internal Router (CF 84) kinda shitty? Almost everything with a wireless bonus needs to have a connection to the Matrix at large, except for the reaction enhancer/wired reflex combination. You're paying 18k to connect those two, and... basically nothing else, except a couple of unimportant Simple -> Free actions?
>>
Does shadowrun have any Negative Qualities that would be synonymous to Body Dysmorphia? Like... someone who 'needs' to regularly get augmentations? Even if they drop closer and closer to 0 essence (But won't do anything to intentionally drop themselves TO 0)
>>
So do your groups ask for half up front for a job? I just joined a group as face and everyone gave me weird looks during out meetup with Mr.J.
>>
>>43454408
Augmentation addict or something about those lines, I believe it's called.

No negatives, but there's a positive in Chrome Flesh.
>>
>>43454452
Only for cyberlimbs? That sounds dumb.
>>
>>43454408
Augmentation addict is a 4e quality. There are a couple of positive qualities in crhome flesh for 5e
>>
>>43454408
Addiction (Augmentation) with maybe Cyber Singularity Seeker and Redliner?
>>
>>43454408
There's one from 4e, Augmentation Addiction basically if someone with ware shows you up or you see a particularly rad piece of gea ryou have to see about getting it.
>>
>>43454467
Hey, man. I don't write the books. I wish it was a modifier per essence point instead. But it works. I'd suggest looking at Augmentation Addict like >>43454476 >>43454447 mentioned and see if you can't update it to 5E.
>>
That was a lot of messages I wasn't expecting so quickly.

Unfortunately, my guy doesn't have cyberlimbs, more internal cyberware like wired reflexes and shit, so Cyber Singularity seeker would do bupkis for me.

I'll look around. I could just play it up as a character quirk.
>>
>>43454476
>>43454511
5e, you'd pick Addiction: Augmentation, Latest & Greatest, or something similar.
>>
I'm the idiot who thought that Merlin might be a decent mage handle yesterday, how does Grim sound? It's short for Grimoire because the character's a massive book nerd with high knowledge in magic theory.
>>
>>43454747
Get ready to be made fun of by other runners.

Other than that, it works.
>>
>>43454747
Sounds like an edgelord nerd.

I am Grim! Master Sorcerer of the Tenth Circle!
>>
>>43454779
>>43454791
Why am I so bad at making up decent street names?
>>
>>43454815
Go with Grimmy, atleast that sounds cute-ish,
>>
>>43454747
the group will choose something stupid and related to your fuckups, and the name will stick. there is no point resisting.
>>
>>43454815
I'm even worse at it, if it makes you feel better.
>>
>>43454826
More like, GRIMY

>Loud chortling heard off-screen

Just now thought of naming him that instead. I dunno. He used to go to some college before money ran out and he was forced to drop out and become a shadowrunner since he's broke.

>>43454815

Pick something that is part of your your character or something that happened in his past. Our group is as follows.

el Gato- Troll infiltration expert. Cat mentor spirit and he always leaves a little hello kitty figure at the scene of his crimes.

Icepick- Remorseless and cold street sam.

Crash- Mystic Adept. Overcasts like a motherfucker, often ends up unconscious at the end of fights due to drain.

Twitch- Rigger. Move by Wire level 3, never sits still.

PhatC@T- Decker. His icon is a big fat brown tabby with sunglasses.

Blackjack- Nationally famous Kpop sensation and Mystic Adept. I'm told the nickname has something to do with Kpop, I don't get it either.
>>
>>43454877
>a college that specializes in magical theory*
Mage schools are absolutely a thing in shadowrun. Don't forget your college-educated quality from Run Faster.
>>
>>43454949

Also don't forget that, if you're in a magical society, you can get a 10% discount on Initiation
>>
>>43454941
Since this anon did it, here's examples from my group:

SINapse - Chromed out rockergirl
Literally Who? - Street samurai

That's all from the party that I know of (PEOPLE NEED TO TELL ME CHARACTER NAMES GOD DAMNIT). My character has some enemy Shadowrunners, and this is them:
Gato - Their fixer/face (Male)
Slamfire - Their hardwired and heavy Street Samurai (Male)
Ripper Ricky - Their infiltration and wetwork specialist
Calamity - The token mage
L1V3W1R3 - Their decker

And SINapse's band (named SINthetik)consists of:
SINapse - Front(wo)man
Pulse - Bassist (Female)
Shok - Drummer (Male)
Stim - Guitar (Male)
Akson - Synth (Male)
>>
>>43455019
>Slamfire

Stealing that one.

I like using/stealing indie wrestlers names.
Our group has a Fixer named Trent? pronounced like it's a question.
Local gang leader Tommaso Ciampa, pronounced chom-pa.
Hacker and Neo Anarchist Uhaa Nation, pronounce ew-ah

lets play a game called, find the decker in my group:

Bear
Winger
@tt@ck-@D
Epsilon
Trog-Bait (not kidding about this one)
>>
>>43455319
It's Epsilon, I know it.
>>
>>43455228
>>43455319
I, for one, love the cheesy 1337speak decker tropes. I just think it's mandatory, at least for me.

I'm about to play a razorgirl named Cherry Pop, named after the candy she's always got in her mouth. Also because she's a bad bitch.
>>
While were talking about names, Jolly Roger for a techno/face, worked as trid pirate

>>43455319
If it isnt attack, i applaud him.
>>
>>43455367
Cherry Pop makes me think of a stereotypical highschool bad girl.

Pls rate my name of SINapse. I only chose it to go with her band, SINthetik. That and her wired reflexes 3 and addiction to Jazz and adrenaline.
>>
>>43455415

I'd give it probably 7/10.

Not particularly memorable, but its not tryhard or annoying
>>
>>43455362
>>43455382
actually it is Epsilon

@tt@ck-@D's the rigger, he was making a statement about politics: "You just got rigged by @tt@ck-@D!" or something like that, but he can also hack a little
>>
>>43455415
Don't forget these are supposed to be street names and aliases. If a name is too closely tied to you, it might as well be barrel rider.
>>
>>43455367

The decker in my group is using the name in pic related.

There's a few other names from that video series that would work too.

Would you prefer go on a run with "Splendiferous Finch" or "Cartoons Plural"?
>>
>>43455463
>Not wanting to be well known and ride off that Shadowrunner fame with your band
Step up
>>
>>43455415
It works better as a singer name than a runner name because unless it's a decker you're often not seeing their name in text form.
>>
>>43455487
Until your runner takes a full auto burst to the chest from an Ares Alpha loaded with EXEX rounds during a concert because you wanted to ride off your Shadowrunner fame.

Has anyone tried making a blood mage PC with 5e's blood magic rules? They look more useful than 4e blood magic, at least.

So, does that concept really not work? I'm not too familiar with Shadowrun, just moreso with 2020, thus why I made a rocker. That and it was one of the archtypes in Shadowrun 1st edition.

Is it seriously that bad of an idea to make a chromed out ganger rocker who runs the shadows and uses that for rep?
>>
>>43455415
SINapse is weird. I don't think it's a bad name by any stretch, but it feels like a name my character would tease yours about. Feels a bit noobie runner maybe?
>>
>>43447605
For adept? I got muscle toner 2, genetic optimization, a stinger, and a chem gland with narcoject.
>>
>>43455625
Well, it was her boosterganger name first (Excuse the terminology, I have no idea what cyberpsycho gangs are called in Shadowrun), and her stage name. Fairly new runner though, only done about 4 jobs (This is before the game started)
>>
>>43455597

It's a little 'pink mohawk' - which is fine if your group plays that way.

I think a lot of people here lean more 'black trenchcoat' where having your running be public information is a quick way to get you killed.
>>
do you prefer cyberware or bioware?
>>
>>43455674
These terms get bandied about alot, also mirrorshades, can you actually define them for me?
