What's Guild Ball?

Short answer: The best game you haven't played

Slightly longer answer: Medieval mob ball crossed with gladiator combat from the coliseum.

Long Answer: Guild Ball is a table top skirmish game for a fantasy sport. You win by reaching a set amount of points before your opponent, which are gained by taking out his team, scoring goals, or a mix of the two. Playing Football or focusing entirely on combat are equally viable ways to win.

Teams represent one of the various trade guilds, currently there are 8 playable guilds with more being released next year. Guild ball is simple to pick up but hard to master. Teams are composed of six models, fielding a team for a full sized game costs <$100 USD.

Rules and templates for proxy models are available for free http://guildball.com/#downloads

Abridged Lore:
> Stupid humans are stupid humans and start fighting amongst themselves. Conflicts continue and escalate, strings of wars break out across the entire continent that become known as the Century War
> Century War is fucking ruining everything. The various trade guilds realise this is ultimately going to do nothing but bankrupt them and leave all their customers dead.
> Guilds unite behind the political scenes and simultaneously lean on all the weakened countries to eventually broker a peace.
> Realising that humans are fucking stupid ass animals, if they don't give them something to channel their aggression and nationalistic pride into the peace will be shortlived and the wars will resume.
> Guilds nationalise mob football, a popular peasant game in every country, as Guild Ball. Guild Ball essentially becomes Europe's The Premier League + Roman Gladiator fighting.
> Guild ball is keeping the peace but also making the guilds a fuckload of money.

Common complaints from Amerifats:

> Nobody stocks the game in my country!

Talk to your LGS, or, if human contact really is too painful for you, shop online at these American retailers

> I've got nobody to play with!

Do you really not have any friends, anon? Do you not go to a local wargaming club? Download the free rules, that come with free proxies, and invite a friend to play with you.

Or you know it's Christmas, stop being a cheap fuck and buy your buddy a starter pack as a gift and play with them.

> It's a Blood Bowl/Dreadball clone ripoff

No it's not you retarded fuck look at any of the material in the OP.
>>
I don't like how killing is part of the score for winning the game, as well as goals.

In Blood Bowl, you can maim or kill half the other side, and whilst it will mean you're more likely to win, you can still lose 2-1 to that last minute Hail Mary.
>>
>>44108053
It's an integral part to how the game is balanced. Some factions are really shite at the football, if they couldn't score by taking out their opponents they'd never win. It's possible for a Football oriented guild to kick 3 goals in 1 turn and win if they completely outmaneuver their opponent.

It's also integral to the theme, the game is as much a game of gladiator combat as it is football.
>>
I'm thinking about grabbing the Butchers and Fishermen's starters and trying to get people into the game. How would you expand these two starters to be full playable teams?
>>
>>44108612
Full size games are composed of 6 models per side.

Each team consists of:
1 Captain
1 Mascot
4 players

So you need to buy Salt and Princess to fill the mascot slots as until Season 2 releases next year they're the only mascots. Then pick two more team members for each guild.
>>
>>44108612
Judging from the prices youd have to ask uncle scrooge for his gold coin vault first.

Who would you pick for a new player learning the game?

>>44108894
Is this supposed to be a dig or something? The model soon pretty inexpensive for their quality and you can get them for pretty cheap from Discount Games
>>
>>44108894
They're the same price as Warmachine. Try again.

>>44109214
Boar and Meathook for Butchers, Greyscales and Jac for Fishermen.
>>
How do the factions play?
>>
>>44109370
Thank you anon
>>
>>44109416
Alchemists: Extremely flexible team that's based around applying conditions and making them worse while protecting themselves from it.

Brewers: Disruptive tanky team. Knocks down people a lot and is commonly seen with armor.

Butchers: Shits out damage. Has a pretty mean kicker, but they are 99% about just shitting damage and killing people.

Engineers: Extremely tight ball control and good at keeping the ball away from the opponent

Fishermen: extreme kicking team. No damage, but they move around a lot and will just kick and kick and kick

Mason: Jack of all trades faction. Very synergistic internally. Weird playbook layout that forces you to choose either getting momentum or better plays.

Morticians: Control/Denial/Disruption type of team. A lot of rules designed to annoy people who don't know what each model exactly does but bad statwise.

Union: Merc faction of specialists. Almost non-existent synergy. Members are extremely good at their one or two thing and likely suck at everything else.
>>
>>44109370

Meathook is easily the worst Butcher player right now. I would pick Shank before everyone except Boiler and Brisket.
>>
Do you just pick 5 players or is there a point cost or other restrictions involved?
>>
>>44110667
Must be Captain, mascot, 4 players, no point costs
>>
>>44110667
There's no point costs, game is balanced around having 6 players
>>
>>44109824
>Mason: Jack of all trades faction. Very synergistic internally. Weird playbook layout that forces you to choose either getting momentum or better plays.

Part of their design. Mason's are super Influence hungry, alot of their turn can be telegraphed by where their influence is going. Means alot of their models need to function on low Influence so walking in and bashing for 1 Influence is more beneficial to them with their high percentage of low momentum results.
>>
>>44110667
You can't have teams that build around having way more models on the board because you switch active players after each model activates.

If one guy has 12 models and the other has 6, the guy with more models basically activates 6 trash activations, sees exactly what his opponent is doing, then has the ability to chain activate 6 models and do whatever he wants. It would be totally broken.
>>
>>44110667
Every team is 1 Captain, 1 Mascot, 4 other players. No point costs.
>>
>>44110471
What exactly is wrong with her? Is it just the piss-poor defensive stats?
>>
>>44115963
There's nothing really exceptional about her. He has scithing blow but it's only one inch bubble, her def is bad and other members bring more unique features. Ox is a hit soak that's very influence efficient, shank is a missle.

She's a good fighter in a team of good fighters
>>
>>44115963

She's a very average player in a team with lots of phenomenal players and equally as competitive Union options.

Scything Blow is a really nice play, but you need five hits to get the guild ball to use it so it comes up much mormore e rarely than it would for a player like Gutter. Butchers are also a team that like to gang up on players and common strategy against Butchers is to spread out, so Meathook is more likely to damage her team than she is the enemy team. Tooled Up is also nice but it's once again covered by Rage who has going for him.

Smell Blood is alright, but you're relying on Boiler or Princess to get it going, where in comparison Shank only needs the target to be damaged.

Her biggest sin is that she only brings 1 Influence to the game, but wants much more than that in order to do the things she wants to do. Unlike other 1 Inf players like Boar, Tenderiser, and Rage, who usually only need 1 or no Influence to do their job.

She's not all bad though. She has the only Heroic Play in Butchers which isn't nothing. Her movement, TAC, and Kick are all pretty good, and while her survivability is lower it's nothing the Butchers aren't used to. That's really it, in a game where you need to pick 4 players, Meathook just doesn't make the cut.
>>
>>44116461
she's ok in 8 player format, hooking people in is good for some matches so you can sub her in where appropriate.
>>
>>44117439
There is no 8 man format. Even in tourneys, you still deploy 6 players

So you're saying that post is perfect.
>>

>hooking people in

Meathook has no such ability, you're thinking of gutter
>>
>>44117439
>hooking people in
I think you're mistaking her for Gutter.
>>
>>44109214
13 dollars a piece at discount is not cheap. Infinity is that at MSRP and people complain about that price.
>>44108018
shill pls think about what you post. Proxies do not get people interested. Tokens only work on board gamers, and no one uses the wastore any more.
>>
>>44119800
>Infinity is that at MSRP and people complain about that price.
>citation fucking needed.
>>
>>44118139
But why would you buy from there when you could buy from an in-country webstore? Cheaper with half the shipping time or less, you'd be literally potato not to.

That said, talk to your FLGS and if they can stock it buy from them, you cunts.
>GB taking off at my local
>Actively whoring out my painting services so people will buy from FLGS and not DiscountGames
FEELS BAD
>>
>>44121894
It's a common complaint.

Even if it gets lost in the fact that you only need ten or so models for both games.

Nerds are surprisingly cheap
>>
>>44122737
Only complaint pricewise I've seen from Infinity is that everything else to start the game is fucking expensive, bajillion tokens, ludicrous amount of terrain.
>>
>>44122947
Terrain killed Infinity for me. If there isn't an established skirmish game group, and the FLGS doesn't randomly have suitable terrain (which most small/medium sized ones don't), then you'd better hope and pray you've got at least a half dozen people all willing to pitch in a meaningful amount of cash or else it's not gonna happen.

Trying to play with re-purposed GW-brand Skull-Spike-Crater-Forest-Ruins just doesn't cut it, and I didn't have enough money to personally finance enough specialty terrain for 4 tables, so the game died a slow pathetic death.
>>
>>44117553
you deploy 6 but have 8 to choose from
>>
>>44122947
You can print tokens. Same with terrain. Fuck, lay down blocks of dick cheese for all it matters.

Complaints about the price of Infinity dollies has more to do with having to buy useless crap to get the ones you're actually after.
>>
>>44124809
bullshit. At most units come in packs of 2 or 5 if going for basic trooper variants.
>>
>>44124849
And if you only want one model in a box, you're paying $60 for it.

It's easy to understand why they want boxes instead of a million blisters, but it can be a real pain in the ass.
>>
>>44124902
there's no way in hell you are taking the content of a box for literally one model. Only ones that even come with that many models are starter sets and line troopers that you would want the option to spam out anyway
>>
>>44124963
>Only ones that even come with that many models are starter sets and line troopers that you would want the option to spam out anyway
Not for a long time, mate. Unless all those 4-man HI boxes just don't count for some reason.
>>
>>44124963
Now it's been about 8 months since I've cared about Infinity, but I distinctly remember my #1 peeve being that I almost always had to pay a random rifle-derp tax because they just couldn't fucking put special weapon dudes in their own blisters more than half the time.
>>
>>44108053
They're dramatically different games. Guild Ball's tactical scope is much larger than Blood Bowl. The multiple victory conditions opens up a bigger variety in ways you can play the game.
>>
>>44108894
Poorfag
>>
ITT poor amerifats

The costs are fuckall. You need like, 6 models Max. Compare that to something like 40k where you constantly need 1000 models that become shit after a week so you have to buy 1000 slightly different ones
>>
>>44118139
Cheaper for Amerifat poorfags to buy from local distributors
