Last time we had an awesome thread about remaking Naruto.
Let's continue the work and get some shit done.

Here is the wiki page:
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Gene_Soldiers

We had agreed on using Shadowrun as the base for the game but as far as I know have yet to start.

Last time it was decided that along Ninjas also a number of Samurai and Monks existed. Monks were heavy ninjutsu specialists. They could accomplish powerful chakra feats but are not trained in the military field as ninjas.

Samurai got two suggestions:
>1 They infused their chakra in the armor and used the remaining chakra to increase their physical capabilites, non firing ninjutsu.

>2 They are people wothout the chakra system. They developed the big armor to be able to survive and fight against shinobis.

To solve most issues I propose this: In Gene shonobi the Villages and Clans are the same as in canon but there is no character from the actual canon. Esepcialy no Madara Uchiha, and I'm not talking about Edo Tensei Uchiha Madara, I'm talking about ALL Madara Uchihas none of which I want to see.
>>
Another thing.

things that really annoyed me:
> Shinobi is all about hiding and tricking the enemy. We have a caln of ninjas woth byakugan that see thorugh everything in every direction.

>Shinobi guard carefully new techniques and try to make sure they never leaves the village/clan. Sharingan can copy and memorize any technque.

TO solve this problems I say this: The byakugan and Sharingan are very rare mutations. For this reason the Konoha tries to make the Uchiha and Hyuga can as big as possible, it increases the chances of having users with this incredibly useful eyes. But even with all that work currently in the whole wolrd there are 5-10 people with Byakugan and 5-10 people with the Sharingan.

This is why Konoha don0t put a Byakugan users on guard duty around the whole village to protect form infiltrations.

Am I wrong, or is there a cyberpunk vibe going on? If so, instead of having villages, corporations would work a lot better, with the shinobi acting as the corporations' operatives and the samurai as their security. It's even better if the corporations own and rule small countries, with the hidden villages being their training centers.

Another thing I dislike are elemental affinities.

Like all chakra turn primarly into 5 elements.

One each elemets have like 4-5 different attacks. Small projectile of element, big projectile of elements, dragon made of elements, clone of elements.

Also everything that is mix of two elements is restricted to a very small Kekkai Genkai. IMO Ice should be more used on the battlefield as well
>>
>>43962328
The cyberpunk vibe is coming off shadowrun, it's not the vibe we're focusing on.

Keep the villages, let them work like independent contractors. They take clients from businesses, gangs and governments alike. The villages compete for contracts in order to boost their reputation and gain patronage from their employers.
>>
>>43962252
I imagine samurai would be highly skilled martial artists from outside the villages, they have no ninjutsu but are hired to defend against ninjutsu users. As such they, they're familiar with certain tecniques and have trained to spot and counter them.
>>
To put it in Shadowrun terms, samurai are cybered up, Shinobi are Mystic Adepts, and Monks are mages.

However I suggest Samurai do have Chakra, however it isn't strong enough to be b a straight ninja or monk so theybuse technology to amplify it. Like Chakra powered armor, etc.
>>
>>43963120
PS: this can be used to explain ess loss from using tech, as the chakra is being used to power the technology they're using. So a samurais tech would be limited by their Chakra, same as a monks shamanism or a Shinobis ninjitsu. Players can point buy genetic heritages as traits, and some are mutually exclusive or 'dormant' at start of play that can only be activated with Karma investment

In Naruto canon which is admittedly a fucking clusterfuck, the Byakugan is possessed by roughly ~50 people tops. And it's not as powerful as Hinata and Neji's for the most part, as they were near the top of the curve in everything.
The Sharingan went completely nuts-o later on when compared to the start, though. Kakashi copying almost every jutsu was considered an anomaly. Sasuke had difficulty copying things, needed physical conditioning and lots of training just to replicate a few things. So as long as you don't go full "LASER LIGHT FIGHTING MECHAS" with it, the Sharingan should be okay too.

Ok done. Maybe Samurai can only chakra on powers on abilities that last for a whole day.

>>43963585
Hmm. Less powerful sharingan-byakugan was never really explianed. And yet 50 guys that can see everything can make the dfense of a couple village structures perfect. I would still reduce their number.

As for sasuke sharingan I attributed his probelms to the young age and having the sharingan only fr a couple of months.
>>
It's never really shown in the series how the rest of the population reacts to ninjas that can rewrite reality as they know it. Perhaps an in-depth political examination of this fact is in order.
>>
Why giant throwing weapons are a thing in this setting?

What advantages do they have? Why people keep using them?
>>
>>43964321
Because shuriken, much like real life, don't have enough mass to do anything more than a slight cut.

So they use ones with more mass, that can actually harm someone.
>>
>>43964345

I thought shurikens are usually poisoned or serve as noise distraction due to that fact.

basically if you get a scratch no matter how shallow it is, you are a dead man
>>
>>43964308
I think we are going for the easy route by saying in Gene Soliders world people can't rewrite reality.

On th eother hand normal people can't compete with ninjas, Any rebeliion will be stomped by the small ninja army.

And Gnadhi with the whole peceful rebellion thing haven't arrived yet...

I think I have ideas for a campaign..
>>
>>43962830

I would say that they are unlimited number of elements.Even the most crazy ones. The 5 from the Naruto are just the easiest to use.
Also each village has its own set of techniques and they usualy refelct the land in which it is situated.

Once there was a tale of a ninja whose prefered element was snakes.
>>
>>43964488
>The 5 from the Naruto are just the easiest to use.
Could be a cultural thing. When they think magic, they think "classic" (to them) elemental shit, which help them to manifest them with chakra.
>>
>>43964303
Samurai: Chakra powered armor that imprints on the user, maybe the user's blood line. Could come in, roughly speaking, head, torso, legs, and arm slots with various pieces of equipment. Whereas Ninja might focus on active abilities Samurai would focus on passive ones. On top of that their armor has stuff like Chakra-Vision lenses, electro gauntlets, wall walking boots etc. All of them in general will have strength enhancement, armor, maybe forcefields.
>>
>>43964488
I like that design.

A character for a game that may or may not take off. His name is Kuroi, japanese for Black. Reference to black ink. His parents, Ninja Merchants who specialize in producing weapons and tools, were killed for some reason. He gets taken in by a powerful clan leader (this is before the village system is established) and adopted half out of pity and half because he has talent.

His entire shtick boils down to "Be invisible or use overwhelming force." Kind of a selfish dick at times, a trait not helped by the guardian cat spirits that helped raise him.

One of the steps to separating this setting from shonen tropes is to drop the power level. If they were just normal humans with big armor and martial skill, then they would be more compelling and show that this world isn't quite as close to dbz kind of fighting..

Alright, let's start spitballing stuff for the descriptions of the other villages.

>Cloud
Strongest village militarily
Very organized and regimented
Different ethnic group (?)
Least focused on stealth

>Stone
Most secretive and underhanded village
Kage nepotism
Pioneering the use of three-element combinations

>Sand
Shit-tier barely major village
Small numbers focused on individual skill
The desert is to them what winter is to Russia

>Samurai: Chakra powered armor that imprints on the user, maybe the user's blood line.
That would take samurai back to their aristocratic warrior class origin. Which is a nice thing I guess.
If it's tied to special armour, it would explain why we don't get samurai everywhere and give plot hooks around stealing heirlooms, special ingredient to create/maintain them, or even special craftsman who make them (with chakra?)
>>
>>43967128
Craftsmen who can make Chakra-Armor are a rarity but not so rare that the fall of a house equals the loss of the technique. Ninjas use similar equipment but have bloodlines that allow them to make use of more direct chakra phenomena.

Samurai however lack such potent bloodlines, they do however have a variety of training techniques that allow them to build up their chakra and physical body. The armor's modifications are both specific to the dynasty and to the warrior so some industrial espionage opportunities are here.

Samurai train pretty much every day of their lives to use their armor, they're kind of invested in making sure no one gets their secrets, that includes the training techniques or proprietary designs.
>>

Not all of them are on sentry duty, and the range on the average Byakugan isn't that great.

How about some kind of sanity mechanic to reflect the fact that every ninja is a current or former child soldier in a brutal 5+ way alternating war/cold war?

Things that are new (seeing someone disemboweled) cause more san damage than if its the nth time your character has witnessed/done it (or something similar, like dismemberment, or even gore in general) (or losing allies, family, getting captured and tortured, etc), and more damage the younger they are. Increasing levels of damage cause increasingly debilitating side effects, up to the point of staring into space and not even defending your own life. Sanity recovers on its own, removing the side effects, but only very, very slowly. Alternately, you can buy your way back up to full san with less debilitating but permanent psychological disadvantages (a pointless but time consuming quirk isn't worth as much recovery as a strong obsession, etc etc please extrapolate on your own)

>To put it in Shadowrun terms, samurai are cybered up, Shinobi are Mystic Adepts, and Monks are mages.

IDK, I feel like that's a bit too limiting from a game-setting perspective. Maybe in aggregate, that could/should be the norm, but I could see a "cybered up" ninja, who was more based off of genetic modifications, secret equipment, and sealing tattoos than chakra techniques, and a samurai who eschews anything other than his sword and the clothes on his back because of his instinctual mastery of his "spiritual energy" (though he doesn't call it chakra.) Facton shouldn't dictate mechanics for character creation in any but the MOST world driven game, and anime has always been character-driven more than world driven.

There is, but you have to be willing to really dig for it. I've read maybe 10 fics at the most that were Doing It Right, and I waded through rivers of pure shit to find them. Here are some signs you should abandon a fic before you've invested more than 30 seconds in it (unless its your magical realm or guilty-pleasure-fanwank):

>opens in the middle of a battle (any battle)

>synopsis includes the words "what if" at any point

>pairings

>misspellings that are obviously not isolated typos

>weeb speak (there is no fucking reason for there to be Japanese words and honorifics scattered in an English fic)

>"chapters" less than 2000 words on the average

>obvious special snowflake bullshit

>getting names wrong

There are more, but I'm done thinking of them. Sometimes a fic will seem good and you won't get a red flag until you're 10 or 20 minutes in, but don't keep going in the hopes that it won't get worse. It will.

The big problem with naruto (for me) was that is had a very awesome world and cool lore but was dragged down by their ridiculously overpower characters, power creep, and the fact that the (again in my opinion) best characters were not expended upon. What i think we should do is tone down the power of both ninjas themselves and the bloodlines. Just look at our world, our best solders? They are very well skilled people, at the peak of their physical condition and having honed their skills for years, BUT they are still humans who without their equipment and team are just very very buff dudes and dudets. Lets bring the ninjas coulser to the special forces level than the "god that destroys everything on it's path". A and S ranked jutsus should be something achievable by only the best of the best, bloodlines are keept at the lower-mid of their anime equivilants etc.
>>
>>43981333
Congratulations, you are completely normal.

Your problem with Naruto is everyone's problem with Naruto, a fantastic setting brought down by terribly written characters and hideous power creep.

Do you remember the Orochimaru vs 3rd Hokage fight? That was, at the time, supposed to be an illustration of what the best of the best could do in battle with one another, consider that compared to all the shit that happens after that
>>
>>43981150
It's been about 3 years since I last read anything Naruto, so I'd have to really dig for most of them. The only one I can find off the top of my head is this: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/6694302/1/Naruto-Myoushuu-no-Fuuin

I read a little of the first chapter just now and its a bit clunkier than I remember, along with a solitary red flag in the first line. I remember plenty of things to love about it though, so I'm linking it anyway.

Speaking of not having hit up the Naruto fandom in 3 years- that In Fire Forged looks pretty good. The first person, 15 year olds, and homebrew chakra ink made me pretty skepticle, but nothing too glaring yet. Feeling cautiously optimistic.

>a fic named chiaroscuro that isn't about an incredibly abusive relationship loaded with 50 kinds of magical realm
My. God. It's revolutionary.
>>
>>43981390
I wouldn't say terribly written characters, just terribly written main characters, there were a lot of potential in even the 2nd stage ones like shino or temari but no one gave a flying fuck about em. But yes, i still remember how epic the fight was and how much of a let down it was later on because the level of power shown by people who were considered one of the most powerfull in the world suddenly became normal

So what is the deal with monks?

Are they monks of an actual religion?
Is it all the same religion? How are they trained? Are they organized into secluded monasteries or do they travel from settlement to settlement with begging bowls?
What actually separates them from ninjas?
>>
>>43982650
They're separated by class balances and the holy trinity anon, can't you tell?

>the desire to shoehorn familiar mechanics is informing world building

What could possibly go wrong?
>>
>>43982777

I agree the extra classes are a little awkward and shoehorned, but that's why they should be worked on and fleshed out
>>
>>43983188
>putting words in my mouth

I'm not saying the archetypes themselves are bad, I'm saying the order of operations here is bad. Monks now exist as a faction entirely unique and independent from both ninja and samurai. Why? Not because it adds anything interesting to the world or serves any purpose, but because somebody wanted a magic class. That's shitty world building.
>>
>>43983534
The whole purpose of this world building is to make a playable and interesting game. That's it, that is the be all and end all. It might not be the most unique, but if it helps the game it's not shitty world building

It is normal to have a class based system in RPGs. They provide character direction and balance, along with something for players to identify with with out having to be overly complex.

From what I can make of your posts, you don't like "familiar mechanics" for no reason other than the fact that they are familiar.

IMO, the game would be boring if it weren't for the classes, without samurai/monk, I *literally* couldn't tell you the difference between this and regular naruto

In real world you have the guys who go on miltiary misison and fight the enemy. Bu tthey need lot of engneeris and physicist to devolp and build their weapon.

The same is in Naruto world.

Monks are chakra specialist that develop new weapon for the village. Only unlike the real sword developing a new weapon grants you big personal power.
So their role is not as marginal as that of scientist in the real world.

Did you read my post? Nothing you said addresses my second one, so I'll assume no.

Let me put it a different way. If you look at the naruto world and think "I want to play a wizard type class," what do you do? Do you make a ninja with fuckloads of chakra who spends all his time learning new ninjutsu and coming up with clever uses for old ones, and sucks ass at taijutsu and weapons because he never practices that?

Or do you create and insert an entirely new major political faction who, actually, has no politics, no history, no philosophy, no structure, and no place in the world, but whoooo.... Have a lot of chakra, use a lot of ninjutsu, and suck ass with taijutsu and weapons?

>>43967108

I did big descriptions of Mist and Leaf in the last thread.

Sand seems to have focuses on puppets, poisons (associated with puppets) and wind techniques.
>>
Okay, I'm going to try and do a bit of numbers analysis.

The class sizes in the manga are hilariously small, but we can put that down to the artist not wanting to draw shedloads of background characters.

However, at one point A's father fights off 10,000 enemy shinobi in the Third War. That means shinobi numbers have to be in the 1000s for each village, because Leaf fought Mist, Cloud and Rock in that conflict.

So, let's say that each graduating class of genin has 800-1000 students. They serve from age 12 until they are no longer physically capable or dead, and being ninja, no longer physically capable generally means crippled in some way.

Is Leaf the most powerful village? Because it's completely surrounded by the other four major villages, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't; it'd have to not be destroyed by the other villages.

Factoring in losses from missions, I expect a peacetime force (for Konoha) to be around 15-20,000. The most dangerous time for a shinobi is their first few years, because of inexperience and physical limitations. Once they get to 20 or so, they tend to have much better survival rates.

I made a post in the first thread about the ranks and how the classes work. Maybe I should compile it?

Also, I had an idea that maybe other nations don't have the sensei-3 students model that Leaf has. There's no reason they should, after all. I like the idea of Rock being gung-ho enough that they give 6-8 genin to each jonin-sensei, and place more responsibility on the genin to improve themselves and each other.

Or maybe have Mist have every shinobi having an apprentice, rather than (as in Konoha) only some chuniin/jonin acting as instructors.
>>
>>43985923
Maybe we might want to scale down those numbers a bit. Let's say 2000 ninja per major village, give or take. So, what we've got so far in terms of training is

Leaf & Sand- Three genin and one jonin/special jonin teacher. This style of teaching is focused on quality and teamwork, which is why chunin can't be allowed to lead teams. Ideally, the groups are just large enough so that the personalities of the members balance each other out, and just small enough so that the bonds (hopefully of friendship) they form become especially powerful.

Stone- Six to eight genin and one chunin/special jonin/jonin supervisor. This system allows the genin to bolster and drive one another, and there is an onus within the village against instructors who cling too closely to their charges. This supports both independence and interdependence among the genin, as well as letting them build network of ninja with whom they have fought before. This will prove useful for each of them throughout their career.

Mist- One apprentice for life and one chunin/special jonin/jonin master for life. What we've basically got here is the jedi and sith model, although considering it's Mist they probably prefer the latter. Moreso than in other relationships, the two ninja are meant to grow together, even to the point of competition. Unlike in other villages, it is the master who gets to decide if his apprentice is ready to be a jonin (assuming he is of sufficient rank, and his student hasn't killed him in a duel).

Cloud- The classroom setting continues all the way up until the chunin exams. Cloud has enough active ninja to allow its genin to not have to work full-time. Any missions they take are usually completed alone, but sometimes in groups of various sizes depending on the instructor's judgement. This system allows the genin to take charge of their own development, rewarding those who seize the initiative while still giving average learners a curriculum to follow and place in the system.
>>
>>43988296
Please tell me what, if anything, you'd want to change.
>>
>>43988296

I was originally going to have it so that in leaf, most teams are lead by chuunin, with only the elite lead by jonin. This group would be the only ones who participate din chuunin exams - everyone else gets promoted via experience. Of course, that was working on the assumption that you'd have tens of thousands of shinobi.

In Konoha, for example, that's mean each year would have maybe 200 graduates? Which means that perhaps the top quarter or sixth would get a jonin-sensei? Or maybe theres just more jonin in this version - I was going under the assumption the vast majority of shinobi never make jonin, and the ones that do aren't all suited to teaching.

I'm not sure I like Cloud's system coming from them having loads of active shinobi. Perhaps it's simple a more structured way of learning, with academy lessons continuing interrupted by missions, where smaller groups are formed from students.

This gives more standardised training (which fits with how Cloud nin are shown to mainly focus on taijutsu, weapons and elemental reinforcement of the two). Maybe students are heavily regimented, where they don't get rewards per mission but instead a constant salary? The entire village makes the money from missions and this is then distributed?

like most of what you are suggesting, although I definitely prefer the numbers suggested earlier with the big 5 Kage Villages having around 15-20,000 Shinobi(with most of those being Genin and Chunin), Mist probably has the least of them due to it's current Civil War(so if we counted both the Village proper and the Rebelling Clans we'd get similar numbers to the other four Villages, but official counts place Mist at having only about 12,000 Ninja compared to Konoha having about 20,000 and the other 3 hovering between 15 and 18,000 Ninja), of course then there's the dozens of lesser Ninja Villages(ones without a leader recognized as Kage), the ones attached to the minor Nations like Sound and Grass, these range from having about 10,000(Sound and Grass who are the heavy-weights of the Minor Villages), to about 500 for the smallest Villages(these ones tend to center on about 1-5 Clans providing the majority of their Ninja, and are among the most mercenary in nature, as they don't have the numbers or prestige needed to get heavily involved in the political games that the Kage 5 or even Sound and Grass get into)

that makes a lot of sense

Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

Yet we've also got Cloud as the most militarily powerful village, apparently. Hmm.

Okay, let's say Leaf has the most a 20,000. Cloud has 18,000, but far more of Konoha's shinobi are actually officially "support". This makes it seem like Cloud has more combat shinobi than Leaf.

Most of Leaf's 20k are combat capable, but the Leaf doctrine is more focused around such support roles. Hell, a lot of Hyuugas, the most powerful Leaf clan, are technically support, working from the Tracking squad.

So, Leaf 20k, Cloud 18k, Rock 16k, Sand 14k, Mist 10k (16k including rebels), Grass 9k, Sound 7k, Waterfall 6k, Rain 6k and so on.

As an aside, I suggest we redraw the map at some point, since it's rather basic; Konoha is in the middle, the other four Great Villages to the NW, NE, SE and SW, and minor villages as buffer zones.

I dropped Sound a bit because the idea of Orochimaru having 10000 shinobi under his command is fucking terrifying.

This means the current alliances are a bit like this. Rock and Cloud are allied, as are Leaf, Sand and Grass (and maybe Waterfall). The Leaf-Sand-Grass alliance could beat one of Rock or Cloud, but couldn't muster the strength (especially as a defensive alliance) to attack both. At the same time, Rock and Cloud together can't threaten the alliance. Mist is too busy tearing itself apart, and Mist shinobi from both sides in the civil war strongly dislike foreign interference.

Thus, the two alliances maneuver to gain the support of other minor villages, including Sound, Frost etc. We should probably add a few more to the list of those if we redo the map.

Of course, if Mist finished its Civil War and started getting involved in geopolitics again, another Shinobi World War would probably ensue as the alliances go up in the air.

And we discover that controlling sand is the puppet technique to an extreme.

You prepare you sand and attack chakra to every grain.

Then you are able to use it on battlfield.

For this reason Sand shinobi transport their sand on themselves instead of using the local sand.

>So, Leaf 20k, Cloud 18k, Rock 16k, Sand 14k, Mist 10k (16k including rebels), Grass 9k, Sound 7k, Waterfall 6k, Rain 6k and so on.

Nice. And the numbers are set.

I like the master-aprentice system of the mist. It is said that some masters let their wanna be students fight to death and teach only the survivor. Also while a student have only one master, the masters after training one student sometimes take up another.

I immagine that Cloud while having less shinobi then Leaf compensate by having more of those Shinobi as Chunin. Lower number of exceptional Jonin but a good chunk of solid chununs.

I also like the idea of most genin squads being assigned to a chunin. Only the most elite ones (Top academy and clan descendants) get a chance of Jonin. (some Jonin like Kakashi to test the students to decide whenever to accept them or send them to a chunin)

As for new minor villages:
>Hidden in the Paper. Situated in the country of Bamboo/Panda. Despite it small size it is said to be bale to annihilated the whole Rock Village.

>Hidden in the Lotus. Situated in the Swamo Country.
>>
>>43990247
The mist would need to have people taking multiple apprentices to keep the numbers up. I dont think the partnership is for life, just until the student is ready to become a teacher.

Yeah the students who get a jonin sensei are the ones expected to be future high ranking shinobi. Usually clan ninja get one for political reasons unless theres loads of clan ninja, although most of them have so many advantages over the other students they are going to be the highest ranked students anyway.

They're the people expected to show off for the village in the chuunin exams.
>>
>>43990359
>chuunin exams.
Actualy i will repeat the idea from the previous thread. Each viallges promotes theor own chunin as they see fit but it usualy require being in service at least 4-5 years.

If you want to become one early you need to take the chunin exam.
>>
Has anyone heard of the site Shinobi Legends? Apparently it's a Naruto-based Legend of the Green Dragon browser game. Don't know if it's any good personally though.
>>
>>43990444
Is there any reason for a 4-5 year requirement as opposed to the recommendation of a superior in the field? Or some kind of internal testing program that you can apply for? Besides arbitrariness.
>>
>>43990787
minimal term of service as a requisite seems reasonable to me and it explains why the most talented kids want to do the chunin exam instead of being promoted right away.

Do Leaf and Sand have a particularly high amount of special and regular jonin? I know that Sand focuses on individual quality rather than numbers, but I thought Leaf was just the opposite.

>>43967108
I don't think the Sand should be THAT shit-tier. Just a little weaker than Mist would be if Mist decided to stop eating itself.

Another reason for why you have big ass shurikens is a distraction.
What are you going to focus on; the fuck huge ninja star that is whirring at you at fuck you speeds, or the teeny tine shuriken that are hidden behind or under the shadow of the large shurkin.

TLDR Shock and Awe

I touched on this in a character's backstory, Ninja Merchants. Makers of Tools, Armor, Weaponry. Distributors of written works on various illicit things. Had a deal with Feline Spirits for protection. Helped their child but not them. Some characters would be focused more on crafting and research than pure combat but a study of chakra will create a powerful force nonetheless. As such anyone who makes the Chakra infused weapons and armor of Samurai, Ninja and the various warrior classes is at least as dangerous as a low level ninja.

Would explain some of the weird quirks that soldiers pick up in the show. Pervy Sage's pervisions, Tsunades gambling and drinking, Pineapple head's addiction to smokes or cloud watching...

Though you would need a rough estimate on what would keep sanity in check. So something goofy and just damn weird might be worth say ten san points while doing a ritual with the blood of your enemy by keeping a bloodied hankerchief of them would be worth 15 san. Something to think on, the more intricate and obtuse the better san recovery I think
>>
>>43980994
I think that might be due to writers taking Sakura, break her down a bit after learning that hey maybe starving myself when I need the energy is a dumb idea or something along those lines and can more or less rebuild her with good writing to their own ideas or self insert. Provided they make it true to the character it can turn out rather well. Versus say taking Naruto and making him become a mini sasuke by turning serious or something, never really liked that to be honest.

Monks I feel would follow a rough form of Shintoism that follows along with Chakra Science. In that one scifi novel that I can't recall there is the quote of "Any sufficiently advanced tech is no different than magic." SO while these monk guys are doing their thing in creating new techniques they are trying to understand and explain how Chakra is and what it's purpose is. Sorta like Philosopher kings or something I suppose. Or what Angels and Demons was trying to teach, that religion and science are NOT on opposing sides of the chess board, but are different paths in understanding the universe.

It's just those asshole extremists on the far end that tend to muck it up for everyone else.
>>
>>43993905
that's an old Asimov truism "Sufficiently Advanced Science is Indistinguishable From Magic."

it's technology, neither good nor evil. Simply put to use. A good example would be Taoist Sorcerors from Wuxia stories for these proposed monks. I feel it'd be best not to focus on a specific religion but have a blurry mix of science, magic, and religion with various spirits, gods, and demons mixed in.
>>
>>43991173
Yeah. The real shit-tier is Ame.
>>
>>43962252

>Monks were heavy ninjutsu specialists. They could accomplish powerful chakra feats but are not trained in the military field as ninjas.

>Samurai got two suggestions:
>1 They infused their chakra in the armor and used the remaining chakra to increase their physical capabilites, non firing ninjutsu.

I just want you to know that both of these ideas similarly match the Three-Pronged balance system in https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3929411/1/Chunin-Exam-Day chapter 62

Generally
Ninja beats monk,
Monk beats samurai,
Samurai beats ninja.

All 3 factions are beholden to the Daimyo, so if any one goes rogue, they can be subdued by another.

>>43990444

I was thinking that the chuunin exams would be an entirely political exercise, so you'd have each village sending their best to compete. For Konoha, this would mean that it was pretty much all students of a jonin sensei, not a chuunin, although exceptions could be made.

That means the future leaders of the village get to experience war in a relatively controlled environment and display Konoha's power.

Thats why only a small number are promoted each time, although personally I think the Konoha event as shown was too limited - the eighteen who survived the Forest should all have participated in preliminaries. It's only because of stupid manga/anime battle lengths that the thing took as long as it did.
