Whether it's from your own experiences or you've heard it from others, post your favourite 40k stories.
I'll start.

>playing space wolves vs my tau friend 4 years ago during a local competition fighting for 1st place
>guy has 2 squads of maxed out firewarriors on a thin bridge about 7" above ground between 2 guard towers (all terrain is custom made by employees and frequent customers)
>perfectly deepstrike both squads of my skyclaws on either side of the ~40 firewarriors.
>kill barely enough of each squad to force them to take a leadership test
>fails both
>as both exits are blocked, the only way for the firewarriors to retreat is by jumping 7" into open ground
>every single one dies
>I rek his hammerhead with my lascannon firing squad and eventually win the game and therefore the competition
>4 years later and it's still remembered as the mass firewarrior suicide

I had a squad of Imperial Guard, lead by a Commissar, versus Necrons. After most of my squad was murdered by Gauss fire from the Immortals, the squad rolled a morale check and failed.

Now, there were only two units left. The Commissar, and a guardsman. The Commissar's special rule kicked in, and he shot the Guardsman in the face...Then charged the Necron lines alone.

To his credit, he took out two Immortals with his power sword before he went down.

One of my favourite moments was the very first game of 40k I ever played. A friend of me plays Dark Eldar and had a few armies from two friends of him (that have like 3-4 armies each) with him to show us the game.
So we have a 6e 1100 points 4-Way battle between:
>Black templars, 10 Man Crusadersquad with Emperors Champion in a Land Raider Crusader, 5 Terminators with Cyclone and another Crusadersquad on foot.
>Space Wolfs, Logan with 5 wolfguard-terminators, a few squads of grey hunters and longfangs
>Dark Angels, Pure deepstriking Deathwing with a dreadnaught
>Dark Eldar: Archon with huskblade, Sliskus, raider with warriors , a talos, incubi and a razorwing.

I might be forgetting something, but that was about the setup.
My footsloggers get almost raped to death by longfangs and only two marines remain, Tank gets blown up by the razorwing and the guys inside underperfom against kabalite warriors, almost dying in the process. The Terminators are killed by the Deathwing, which in return gets killed by Logan. Total chaos and confusion until the end.
I have the Emperors Champion with 4 crusaders and the two lonely marines that only survived because a bunch of incubi started hacking up the longfangs.

Then everyone notices that i'm the only one holding any objectives and win the game with 6 models left.

I played a lopsided abortion of kill team once
>one guy had all his guard which amounted to a squad and a leman russ
>I had a squad of Chaos Terminators
>Another guy had a venerable dreadnought
>Me and the dreadnought had to gank the guard guy
>attempt to do so
>dreadnought raped the guard and destroyed the leman russ
>but not before a single fucking guardsman killed three of my Terminators then failing leadership
>>
This happend a few weeks ago:
>Playing Tau against my friend the plays Necrons
>I had recently built a squad of gue'vesa that I wanted to try out
>Turn 3, a squad of three destroyers is closing in on my right flank
>Shit that is where my hammerhead is!
>I put my gue'vesa's in the line between the destroyers and the tank
>On his turn he chooses to shoot at the 10 gue'vesa's.
>4 dies instantly
>On my turn I decide to charge him in order to buy more time for my tank to find a new safer position
>After a single CC fight only 2 gue'vesa's are left alive, the shas'ui and a regular dude
>The survive 3 turn just the two of them in tied combat every time.
>But the turn after that they died. Both me and my necron friend where impressed at thier resilience.
>And people say Gue'vesa's sucks

One of the earliest games I ever played was by all accounts horrid from a rules standpoint, because I had just started understanding all the rules, and my opponent was a 10 year old who was learning how to play Orks with his dad.
I barely understood my own Tyranids but the game was a blast. A huge contingent of Shoota Nobs shot down my Flyrant, while my Zoanthope zapped two entire mobs of Boyz before being brought down. I just remember having a blast because the kid and his dad were clearly bonding and the game wasn't too serious, so I was enjoying just the pure fun of the game, rather than worrying about tactics or how to adapt to an enemy advance.

Playing vs. my buddy's Tau gunline a few months ago.

Turn 1, he goes 1st.
>railside into your Land Raider
>6, 6, 6
>explodes!

later that same game
>ah... fusion blaster into that heldrake I guess
>6, 6, 6
>explodes!

later that same game

>Im gonna cast invis on those spawn
>6, 6, 6 he perils'd
>1, he got sucked into the warp
>6, he killed 3 Terminators on his way out

It was as if I was on hidden camera. Ive never seen one guy roll so good while the other guy simultaneously rolls as bad as possible. It was so over the top I wasnt even mad, it was like I was witnessing a once in a lifetime event.

I've got two, I had a squad of chaos space marines hiding behind a little wooden fence (we had agreed it was a 5+ cover save) and I was playing against some dark Eldar. Those marines managed to survive 3 rounds of being shot at by something like 18 dark lances by hiding behind this waist high wooden fence.

The next one was a big apocalypse game. I was playing IG against nids. The Tyranid player had that fucking huge bio Titan go after one of my infantry platoons. In the shooting phase it fired its weapon and inflicted 11 wounds (I had a priest and a commissar in the squad) the commissar passed a look out sir and are shit to save the priest. The bio Titan charged into the priest, who then took off its last two wounds and killed it. Best. Priest. Ever.

One from when a friend and I were starting out. Best reversal from any of our games; usually one of us gets the momentum and runs with it. I was using the DV Dark Angels (less the Deathwing) against the DV CSM (less Kranon). We had the board set up with a hill on botb of the long edges.

>First turn, he kills my bikes with the Chosen when I roll like a chump on the armor saves.
>Second turn, I drive the Chosen off their hill with lucky scatter on the plasma cannon, but Vrosh allows a regroup and the Cultists and Helbrute take firing positions against my Tacs and attached Characters.
>Third turn, I kill the Helbrute with a wave of plasma. The autogun Cultists continue chipping away at the Tacs.
>Fourth turn, I inflict massive casuaties on the pistol Cultists but can't break the survivors. They and the Chosen take up positions at the base of the hill while the untouched autogun Cultists continue to pick off Tacticals.
>I'm down to the CM, Libby, and four Tacs. Friend's happy with the balance of forces, even if he's lost more men than expected.
>Fifth turn, I see my chance. Move the Tacs through the gap between the pistol Cultist and Chosen, into charge range of the autogun Cultists. Get off a charge and wipe them in assault.
>Chaos has only four bodies left, two of them Cultists.
>Friend is no longer happy with the balnce of forces.
>Chaos shooting accomplishes nothing.
>Gun down the Chosen, allow the Cultists to charge my lone CM in honor of their earlier courage. It goes exactly as one would expect, but they tried.

I think it was another three or four games before the Helbrute got another kill, and to this day he rolls more ones to would than should be possible. I think he was traumatized by the experience.

I don't have any models, unfortunately, so I don't have any stories. I just bought some necrons though so hopefully that'll change soon!

>Long Fangs die to soul suck but my termagants are gone too.

Once I was playing my Chaos Marines against Space Wolves and my Berserkers and Chaos Lord were shot out of their Land Raider and had to emergency disembark right in charge range of a six-man Thunderwolf squad and a Venerable Dreadnought. Fortunately, I was able to deep strike my Terminators right behind the Dreadnought and they destroyed it in one round of shooting from the Reaper Autocannon and a Multi-melta. The Termie powerfists then managed to frighten off the thunderwolves lest their Wolf Lord receive instant death. My berserkers were then able to advance and seize the charge. Ever since then, I've always taken those Terminators, because they proved their loyalty to their Lord and the Dark Gods that day.

Well, incidentally, the Space Wolf player did offer a temporary truce to fight the Nurgle player since he brought bikers. I agreed to it, but only so that I could get some of my units into advantageous positions without risk of the Space Wolf player (my then-friend, for the record) being hostile, since the Nurgle units were far less of a threat to me than him.

Naturally, I turned on him by turn 2 or 3, in true Dark Eldar fashion.

My most fond memories are from the beginning of Fifth edition, when Assault on Black Reach first came out.

>Playing a massive eight-player game
>We had all just started playing, so we just brought 750pts each, a battleforce and an add on or two
>I split the AoBR set with a friend, got the Orks inside.
>My little brother played Nids
>There was also a Space wolf and Chaos Marine player, a second Ork player, and a Tau and Imperial Guard player.
>We played on an old WHFB board bought from a guy who sold off a bunch of fantasy stuff to the store, so there was a Fortified Mansion on a hill that dominated the center of the board on one side, with just sloping plains all around
>We decided to play a free-for-all, with ad-hoc alliances popping up everywhere.
>The Marine and Space Wolf player teamed up against the Chaos marine player and the other Ork guy, while me and my little brother went up against the Tau/ Imperial guard alliance that held the hilltop mansion

>Things weren't going well for us
>Tau and Guard shooting, coupled with artillery and a small group of crisis suits, had me decimated by turn 3, with my little brother's nids not doing well themselves
>A turn later, we crawl closer, but the Guard and Tau player forgot one thing

>Rippers

>My little brother had used the horde of gaunts and genestealers he had, along with his distraction carnifex to get them into charge range.
>The tau player scoffed when the Guard player told him to take them out, he said they were just two little ripper swarms, what could they do?

>They wiped out his entire Tau army save the Crisis suits. Every one of them.
>Quite literally the moment those Rippers entered the mansion, my little brother had won.

For the longest time afterwards my brother would use Rippers as filler for his army. He became notorious for being able to sneak those fuckers around and get them right where he needed them to be by being overly aggressive with his Carnifex somewhere else.

One of my all time favorites was years ago, before the first Cruddance Nid codex. I was playing a Chaos army led by Abbadon
>Abbadon and 4 Terminators shoot up a unit of 8 termagants, one left.
>last model is an original gaunt model, back when they actually held their guns and squids were in the nid army
>in synapse so fuck morale checks lol
>my turn
>move up and shoot termies because the sooner I die the sooner Without Number brings them back
>kill one with fleshborer
>wut
>charge them
>kill two more, survive return attacks
>wut
>survive two more rounds of combat, even manage to wound Abbadon
>250 point assault fex (remember when that was a lot of points for one model?) thunders in and curbstomps Abbadon and last termie when Abbadon fluffs his Drach'nyen attack
>end up parking the last gaunt in a table quarter and win three quarters to one

From then on, he was referred to as "the Magic Gaunt" and venerated as the true leader of my Tyranid army.
>>
>>43946585
I've had this on the game I intro'd my brother. He borrowed my Grey Knights and was casting hammerhand before a charge.
>Roll bro
>I got...double six. Is that good?
>Oh. Ok it passes, but you've triggered the warp and have to D6 roll for perils.
>Shit. I rolled a one.
>Erhm, it's still ok, you need to take a leadership test on 2d6, your Termies have high leadership so
>6,6
>Oh. Um, the result is "dragged into the warp" and
>Holy shit who the fuck wrote this
>You need to roll one more d6...

The Entire squad died.

>Don't care, shell the shit out of the rest of his guys.

>Massacre almost all of his troops, then Chaos Lord hits himself with his axe and dies.
>Through shooting and assault, literally reduce his army to a single scout.
>Scout goes to ground.
>Random game length comes into effect, game ends.
>By VPs, that single scout won the game.

I loved losing that way, honestly. I imagine a scene similar to Black Hawk down when that scout finally gets picked up.

"Sorry for us?" The scout grins. "Don't feel sorry for us man. Feel sorry for them. We just kicked their ass."

I play Tau and Grey Knights, and my friend plays Imperial Guard. Needless to say, the games we play tend to be one-sided based on a few lucky or unlucky rolls. When playing Tau I tend to make a bunch of cheap suicide Fusion squads to Deepstrike and eliminate high-point enemies. This can be difficult given how shoddy rolls go, but on one specific day I managed to land three squads of two Crisis Suits each next to three respective Leman Russ tanks. Kablooie, hundreds of points down the drain. His turn rolls around and he mostly has guardsmen that have jumped out of transports I killed with Hammerheads or Broadsides. He picks one squad of Crisis Suits near a lone Leman Russ to murder and then move on to the next, but he just can't. Kill. Them. He shoots them with lasguns but they bounce off, he fires with plasma but he Gets Hot and misses, he runs his men in to try and swarm the suits with numbers but he just can't get a single wound let alone a kill.

The turn rolls around and by the time it's back to him most of what's left of his side is a smoldering crater. All he's got is that single Leman Russ nearby, facing those pesky Crisis Suits, and a squad of Tempestus in between to the side. What is left of the Guardsmen that were locked in melee with the Suits have fled, ending their flight nearby the Scions. He finally decides he's just going to pie-plate the squad and rush them with the scions and fires...and scatters the plate right on top of the Tempestus and fleeing Guardsmen, killing all of them.

Thank you based Tzeentch for having my back.

Before the necrons 5th ed codex came out my friend would regularly stomped my army with his space wolves. Phase out all the time...

After the codex dropped I got a couple of ghost arks and still had a warrior heavy list. He didn't bother to change up his tactics and sent his usual drop pod with Arjac and terminators in the middle of my army.
