Welcome to the /tg/ OC thread.
Last Thread: >>48046984
Tell us about your characters, new and old. Let's hear some stories of valor and glory and build some legends in here.

>THIS THREAD IS FOR SHOWING OFF YOUR FAVORITES FROM YOUR GAMES AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
It's like the Storythread, but centered on characters that we all know and help make. Your Original Character can be any character you've played, are playing, or want to play!

>WHEN POSTING YOUR OC
Give us a little blurb about your character, tell us about them. Or if you want to make a new one with us, just tell us a basic concept.

>WHAT'S YOUR OCs MARY SUE SCORE?
http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm

Write and share stories about each others' characters. Draw and share pictures of each others' characters.

Ask questions about other anons characters and get to know their stories, and tell us all about your own.

Need help developing a new character concept? Ask away! Answering the periodically posted Development Questions can often help, so look for those.

This thread is intended to be all in good spirit, so please remember to be excellent to each other, and try to contribute in some way.

>IF YOU JUST NEED CHARACTER ART, GO TO THE DRAW THREAD
There are more artists consistently there that are actively looking for requests to fill, that's not the case here. Artists are still free to contribute, however.

>DON'T MAKE A NEW THREAD UNTIL PAGE 10
Use new art from these threads as OP image when possible.

GoogleDoc of the characters so far (still in progress, so don't be alarmed if you don't see yours) https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_dUy0Yo4cigbTB1Q1g5bTRvcTQ&usp=sharing

Development Question: If you're character played in a tabletop RPG, what kind of character would s/he play?

Sir Aaron Annesly is a noble of in Water Deep. He is infamous for constantly spending time with those below his class, despite his upbringing. His family is known for their pride in their bloodline, and their distaste for watering it down with nonhumans, most so with half breeds. Aaron has shown little to no care for this, however. He spends far more time amongst the merchants, learning their trade, and has the ear of the city guards. He is rarely seen without his squire, Patsy. Patsy is a bumbling idiot, but Aaron bears with him since the young fool was recommended by Lea, a young half elf noble Aaron spends FAR too much time with. To add more to his family's shame, he has been spotted with an elf of ill repute named Soren, and Mentis, a gnome wizard known to be... Off. Aaron is a skilled fighter, taught fencing from a young age, and has also focused on bolstering his allies, and battle field tactics. His enemies are the cult of Tiamat, at the moment. They had been smuggling dangerous creatures and items into the city. His investigation into the smuggling, with the help of a certain criminal, unearthed a far more malevolent plot. He has bright red hair, and a fondness for green clothing.

Mordin Kainen La Rouge is a happy go lucky illithid and self proclaimed hero. His other titles include Knight Tentacular of the Holy Order of the Tentacle, the Liberator of Elelphants, Psion Extraordiare, and in a small italian town, Spaghetti Man. This fresh faced young hero's goals are no more than to be a hero, and spread the good word of the tentacle. His traits include heroism, bravery, unsurpassed intellect, childlike innocence, and giving himself titles, and secretly being a dire polar bear. His flaws include obliviousness, foolhardiness, is literally 12 years old, gives the party unforgettable titles, and lacks opposable thumbs and can't fit through doors because hes a fucking bear. He is allied with Raptor Jesus, also known as Ketharuil, and a pasty little mage named Zaniel. His enemies include elder evils, bad guys and color yellow. His other relations are his adopted sister Charlotte, an aranaea weaver, and Kirahe, the paladin whose body he used to inhabit. He wears a magic item to look like his old form, as seen in the picture, but switched minds with a polar bear.

Joshua Troy, Shadow Name is Ajax. He's a socialite, and a witch. A fatespinner. He's searching for answers as to what has drawn his compatriots and he together; why the threads of fate have had this pattern. He's overly protective, and that ties in with his pride. He's charismatic, and the closest his group has to a party face. He gets egocentric at times, and manipulates his friends, too. He blames it on the symbols he sees since Awakening, but he was always a bit manipulative. He also does not know when to shut up, which has gotten in trouble more than a few times. He's dedicated to protecting his friends, but he's also a terrible craven. His allies are his best friend Q, a sin-eater, Burke a werewolf FBI agent, the other residents of his condominium, and his bar's owner, Lucifer. His enemies are his father William, and a demon named Sin that has been playing chess with Josh and his friends as the pieces. He also has his younger sister, who he's raised, his mother who's gone missing, and his girlfriend Samantha.

gunslinger 9.jpg

Layne Caeduin and the rest of her family had lived within the confines of an industrious city for some time, and for a generation before that. As a result, certain cultural trends had to be...tweaked. Like many elves, her family was a well-known line of Arcane Archers. But the tight confines of city streets are no place for a bow, and Layne understood this having lived there her whole life. Delving into the mysteries of technology from the city's local dwarves, as well as a few less wholesome magics taught by her aunt, Layne has become something of a self-styled Gun Witch. This strange corruption of the family tradition has not gone unnoticed, and does bring her scorn from her ancestors at times. Her auntie tells her not to mind them.

Most magical gunslingers tend to be more like a gunslinger who happens to also use magic. Layne is squarely the opposite; she is a witch first, the gun is merely another magical implement. The revolver is her wand, the gunpowder her alchemy, the smoke wafting from the still-heated muzzle is her ritual incense.

Of course, it takes a special sort of mind to come up with something like this, and Layne is notoriously inarticulate at times. The visions she claims to receive in the midst of her rituals both bless her with insight and shift her ever farther from the mindset of sensible folk.

Spurred on by her initial findings, Layne gleefully delves into all manner of profane things, if there are scraps of wisdom to be found there. She is often told that such unregulated study is dangerous and bound to get her killed. Her reply; that is precisely how one can tell the knowledge is worth seeking.

His blades bring death! A land in turmoil, a Throne with no Emperor, Lords forsake their duty to their vassals, dead who won't stay in the underworld, demons who have no shame!

In this land Evil is Law!

But even murders have their limits, faced with the endless depravity of a Kingdom succumbing to chaos the Catfolk cries out 'No More!" and turns his Bandit's Blade to Bushido!

Bonds of Brotherhood are Stronger than Steel but is it enough to break the ties of iniquity that keep justice from prevailing?

Samurai, Excorcist, Thief, and Sage. Will they calm the warring Nobles, put a new regent on the Throne, send the dead to a final rest, and bring unruly demons to heel or is this Land doomed to suffer Misrule for all time?!

I've got an old OC I find myself revisiting, he was the very first non-human I played when I started to branch out.

His party couldn't quite understand the finer points of the Merrow language when they met, so they took the first part of his name and just call him "Itch", much to his distaste.

Itch worked for a time as a smuggler, using underwater channelways and caverns to get goods from one coastal city to another. He took work with the party who at the time needed someone with this insider knowledge to get information regarding some missing civilians that it turned out had been taken by dwarven slavers.

After finding and freeing them, Itch decided the party provided better work and more fulfilling adventure so he agreed to pal around with them long term.

He died shortly after.
I'm kidding.

>Name
Luvos Nichto
>Role
Planar Explorer, Diabolic Conjurer, Guest Villain
>Goals
To remain on the forefront of knowledge, exploration, and change. Luvos is in the process of writing a series of encyclopedias of planar knowledge. He is experimenting with means of achieving immortality and slowly perfecting his revenge against his wizard peers.
>Traits
Luvos has little respect for conventions. He enjoys the fleeting nature of comprehension and more enjoys the hunt for knowledge itself. He has demonstrated a frightening degree of patience and a somewhat obsessive personality. He is easily flustered. Luvos is attracted to forbidden knowledge and other things an authority figure says are dangerous this is derived from a desire to overcompensate and impress others by taming such dangerous things. Growing up as a half-drow raised by humans has given him an affinity for the taboo and makes him feel like a kindred spirit to most things labelled as evil and secretive.
>Flaws
In addition to having little respect for tradition, Luvos' time spent exploring the multiverse and planescape has left him reluctant to put any faith in the moral boundaries of any one plane. He has picked up the habit of introducing himself in fancier and fancier nonsensical titles. He believes he is the smartest person in any room but that everyone seems to know something he doesn't. Any attempts at appearing friendly are usually hindered by his creepy and overblown mannerisms, lack of social awareness, and the stench of brimstone clinging to his robes.
>Allies
Irya Sheen, his animated foot stool, and a clumsy broomstick.
>Physical Description
Luvos is an early middle aged half-elf swathed in several layers of dark robes, he is hooded at most times and has dusky grey skin which shows on his face and finger tips. His drow heritage has gives him his yellow eyes and aversion to sunlight. He has sharp features and poor posture. His teeth and nails are pointy but harmless.

It's always fun to see a character embrace the "all wizards are assholes" theme. Does he actually have a party he has to work with or is he a solo outfit?
>>
>>48128855
Thanks! He started out in a party but the game ended after just one session now he's just a solo outfit, he was a villain in another persons module as a guest and now he's going to be the main antagonist in a game I'm running.
>>
>>48128900
That sounds fun, it's nice to have a character you can sprinkle into pretty much whatever you want without altering them.
>>
>>48129378

• Name: Jennica Korr
• Role(s): Captain, CQC specialist
• Goals: Reunite the Empire, find father, ignore Force plot hooks until Inquisitors/GM force the issue
• Traits: Uptight, Stubborn, Aggressive, Loyal
• Flaws: Her aggressive and stubborn nature leads to unnecessary risks and have pissed off the wrong people. Combine that with an almost myopic view towards her objectives, both personal and mission-based, and she's led the party out on a limb more than once.
• Allies: A junkie Imperial Tie pilot, a Nosaurian mercenary, a hapless hired gun, an Imperial Warlord with more firepower than common sense
• Enemies: A rogue Inquisitor, a band of Mandolorians, at least one Imperial Remnant Faction, New Republic scum
• Other Relations: Her adopted father, the Imperial officer who got her into ImpInt, which according to different reports is either KIA, captured by the Republic, or working with the Republic
• Physical Description: A tall Cathar who takes pride in her appearance and uniform.
-Mary Sue Score: 10

I'll try to get a more narrative paragraph going later. Also, sorry I missed you in the earlier drawthread, Bog Roll. I'll be checking both threads if you have questions, and thanks again.
>>

Okay, so some dev questions.
>If your character played in a tabletop RPG, what kind of character would he play?
I think Aaron would get a kick out of rogue trader, actually.
>>48126549
>If your OC had their own TV show, what would it be about?
Probably a mix of investigative reporting to show the corruption of the noble families, and stuff about market shares.
"Buy your furs now, because prices are just going to go up! Also, the Haedran nobility is funding crime at the docks!"
>>
Hey guys, I really need some help building a character personality.

He's a vampire, but I want to stay out of both extremes of "edgelord broodomancer" and "awkward likeable dude" vampires.

Any ideas? I can provide a bit of detail through prompts, but the game won't be for a while so there's no in-game experience to reference yet.
>>
>>48130819
Let's get a little more detail first.
>>
>>48130902
Sorry you're right I guess I just don't know where to begin, since he's only a concept right now.

Give me 10 minutes or so.
>>
>>48130958
Don't apologize. I want to help, but want something to work with. What do you want from the character? What's the system/setting?
>>
>>48131010
Not much specifically other than to find the middle ground mentioned >>48130819

He was formerly human, it's a d&d5e basic setting.
>>
>>48131010
I DO want it to have a kind of emotionally low feel, but not heavily so. Almost like John Constantine + Hellboy in a way.
>>
>>48131010
I just made a request for him in the drawthread I wonder if the mental picture might help if you see it. I've decided to go a 'vampire hunting worse vampires' path with him which he thinks is his way of hopefully buying his way to heaven should he be killed without getting cured first.

How does that sound?
>>
>>48131912
Yeah, lets see that.
>>
>>48131982
It's this one >>48131876 I only just made the request so itxs the reference picture not a delivery. It might be a while before somebody does it.
>>
>>48132020
So, while they're sound be internal struggle, it shouldn't be the primary thing. What's tying him to humanity still? WHY does he hunt?
>>
>>48132964
Well my idea again is that he's trying to "buy" his way to heaven. Sort of like he believes his soul is damned because he's a vampire but he thinks if he slays enough of them maybe Pelor will show him mercy/forgiveness or something. He might be right might be wrong but it's what he thinks to be true.

In the meantime he does search for a cure, because obviously that would be the most assured way to heal his soul.
>>
>>48133031
Funny you mentioned Pelor. There's a Pelor myth that says that he'd remove the curse if they asked for forgiveness.
>>
>>48133760
I didn't know that. In the sake of keeping the character I'd rather he have to work for it or try his own idea. Maybe my character (who is unnamed still) is unaware of the myth, wasn't truly sincere in his pleas, or tried and the myth is just a myth.
>>
>>48133796
>wasn't truly sincere
Now that would be interesting. Does he find he likes having a vampire's power?
>>
>>48135635
Maybe on the inside, deep down, but not as a surface thought. I was thinking if that were true he doesn't realize it yet.

>Development Question: If you're character played in a tabletop RPG, what kind of character would s/he play?

He'd either have a Crocodile Dundee type show where he's just hunting down monsters/magical creatures with his pet Hellhound. Or he'd have three stooges like show with the Bard and Marijuano.
>>
>>48137065

>>
>>48136264
What was his life like as a human?
>>
>>48138310
I haven't picked yet.

Probably either a simple hunter with an older mentor that collect game for the town they live in, or (what I think I like better) a low rank soldier whose unit was attacked by vampires while on deployment.
>>
>>48138420
I like the soldier idea. Did he have any family?
>>
>>48138600
His father and an older sister (by 2 years). His mother and younger brother passed away when a particularly nasty plague swept through the area and they had no money for healers.

I'm thinking he joins the army to make sure he can send money home to his remaining family to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'll also assume he has not been back to see them since being made into a vampire, perhaps they even think he was killed along with his squad. I like how this guy is turning out so far.

Fair enough, though I'm sure these guys would enjoy it regardless.

Alright, minor campaign update for myself, Charlotte is beginning to suspect the necromancer Marie's true nature. They've been fast friends so far, keeping each other in check but also teaching each other a thing or two in the process.

Marie shows the naive Charlotte that not all necromancy is "spooky evil witchcraft" and Charlotte in turn shows Marie that people can be understanding and open minded, given the opportunity.

Charlotte doesn't yet know that Marie herself is an undead spirit, raised by an unknown force. She gets a sort of aura from her, but has yet to confirm for herself her suspicions out of fear that she'll be forced to lose the only friend she's ever made outside of her city walls.

We've also managed to find a clue as to Julia's location, so hopefully by the end of Friday's game, a happy reunion has taken place.

Brand new art of Charlotte and Marie hot off the commission presses from none other than BigMSaxon, thanks a million dude!

There's no way of telling. She's been told her entire life that undead are these mindless evil monsters, but she knows from personal experience that this particular undead is a good person. One who has helped free slaves and fought human traffickers.

He recently got to be the villain in a module ran by another person in the thread I haven't seen the logs from it but from what I understand Luvos was a terror to the party, summoning demons around them in their sleep, shifting giant library shelves to crush them and make the maze more complicated, eventually they ran away the first encounter and the pyromancer in their party did so by burning a giant hole straight through the library. Luvos blew a gasket about it and he doesn't even like evocation type wizards in the first place. I'm working on a new short story thing with him but I've been having a tough time with it. Here are the old ones http://pastebin.com/ZBf8sSx7 I'm working on a new picture of him right now too.

• Name:
Irya Sheen
• Role(s):
Witch, Planar Cartographer, Magical Shopkeep, Party Mom
• Goals:
Regain her prior power, as it was fractured within the many lives of other 'hers' within other planes - but, mostly? Irya wants knowledge as direly as a dragon wants a horde.
• Traits:
Wisened, snide, silver-tongued, maternal, and sharp as a tack.
• Flaws:
Paranoid, crude, drastic, obsessive, and too straight-forward.
• Allies:
A few of her Acolytes (other spellcasters she taught of 'leaping' about the planes), a few others who stride the spaces between worlds, such as an eccentric blue-haired alcoholic a worshipper of a strange, birdlike god, and a particular Luvos Nichto. Also commonly followed by a tiny, feathered dinosaur she bound to her.
• Enemies:
She's made many in her travels and fervent pursuit of knowledge, and her stigmata makes her easy to find for such.
• Other Relations:
Before she began walking, she was happily entangled into a strange relationship with a changeling by the name of Ravasaadi. Unknown to her, he's still trying to find her.
• Physical Description:
See picture (now in summer edition!)

Recent escapades:
>Narrowly avoided death from gambling (the DM said, had she have done it, he had rolled for a CR 9 demon to come out to smite her. This was at level 2.)
>Still stalking that paladin because she's really weirdly stuck between wanting to date him and dissect him.
>Laughing at the chucklefuck in the party stuck wearing a cursed Ring of Wizardry that involves paperwork.
>Will probably be getting a rendition of the Iron Giant coffee guy as a reaction image

I notice that a disproportionate number of players consider their characters to be the "voice of reason" or "team parent" or just the person "keeping everything on track." Is that because the people who micromanage their parties are the same type of people who post on /tg/? Or maybe everyone in a party thinks they're the one sane one keeping everyone else in line?
>>
>>48145834
>>48145589 here. Somehow, due to the DM picking my familiar's token as the map icon, I end up taking the lead on where to go/what to do for the party because otherwise they kinda just sit around.

That, and they'd rather dick around with the Wabbajack that the DM gave them and see what happens with it. (This has caused the ratman to lose his house and cheese, a tree to ignore laws of physics, and the monk to explode and regenerate -and- gain 50 pounds of baby fat in the shape of a baby)
>>
>>48145834
Probably the latter, regardless if they are correct or not. From their perspective they most likely see themselves as the leader of their respective group.

In my groups, I always enjoy being the party face in social encounters, but I let the beatsticks and soldiers handle field strategies and plans.
>>
>>48145951
>The D&D movie they're making is a mockumentary, with everyone telling the bard their side of the story
>everyone says they're the party leader
>>
>>48145834
I think people who do say "I'm the group mom" typically have more of an emotional investment in the game.

That being said, everyone is their own main character, in tabletop as well as real life. While the wizard might think that their spells are what saves the day, the barbarian knows their strength keeps the enemies at bay, the rogue knows their wits keep the traps, both real and social, disarmed, etc.
>>
>>48146567
The first part of your post I find to be mostly true. The second part entirely. Every player I've worked with tends to view themselves as their own main character, which is perfectly normal and fine provided they understand the spotlight isn't theirs to run 100% of the time.
>>
>>48145834
Well, Keth is a voice of reason in that he's a moral center for the group. Cleric and all that. He became party leader through no decision of his own, though. When another group asked, everyone just sort of thought for a minute, and then said it was him.

Sir Kay.png

Kay Clarent is a noble in hiding. Hailing from a corrupt nation, twisted by devils; his ideals made him stick out. His family was more kind to the peasants on their land than the rest of the kingdom, but only just so. Kay made it a habit to spout his ideals in the courts, arguing with other nobles about the rights of the people. In the end, he was to be executed. His Lord, and step father, pleaded to instead strip him of name and title. Thus Kay lost his surname and home. However, he has taken it upon himself to still protect his family and people. He has since donned an iron mask, and has assumed the role of a scarred servant to his sister. His allies include his family, despite arguments; Vargas, one of the banner men of the house and Janus, a fellow servant. Kay strives to bring justice to a land under a vile rule, and this has made him quite a few enemies. He has gotten the attention of the King's court wizard, and possibly that of the king himself. Other nobles use his story as a warning to the people about standing up. They only know the half of it.
>>

Yeah, actually. So Kay never knew his real father, because his father was executed by the king for attempting to lead a revolt. His mother had been one of the prior kings best generals, so there was no backlash onto the family. Now, the settings main theme is time, and as part of the setting, wrinkles will appear, and if you go through, you'll appear at another time. Kay and Janus happened upon one, and ended back at the time of the war. He got to see his mother again, and his father for the first time that he could remember. And despite warnings, he tried to tell his father how he died. When they got back to the present, his father was still dead, and instead one of his mother's more twisted allies lived. After fixing it as best they could, it crushed Kay to know that he couldn't do anything. And now he's heading down the same path his dad went.

It depends on the group, but in one group I played with, most everyone else was new, and a little lolrandum because of it. They had no real interest in engaging in dialogue, following plothooks, and keeping to a vague plan.

And honestly, it's kind of fun to be a party dad or mom with a group that's overall nice and well-behaved. It's not fun to keep people from backstabbing each other, but being a gentle voice of reason and leader by charisma alone instead of forcing it is fun.

Well with my part it's usually two of us are actually focused on the plot and others want to dick around. For Kaiger, the Bard and him might come up with a plan; if others dick around too much, Kaiger hits them hard.

Though Kaiger doesn't really keep them on track any more since he's the odd man out to the party at this point.
>>
>>48145834
In the case of if Arallios is some kind of group center the answer is "hell the fuck no". If anything he's the leading cause of discord in the party with his insistence on representing another option/argument, even if he doesn't agree with it, for the sole purpose of getting a fuller picture of any given situation, as well as just disagreeing with our "party leader" it came to a vote because no one wanted to do it and having a leader was deemed necessary by the fighter. Fighter won the vote and doesn't much hesitate to either drop the hammer and say "you can be leader if you think your idea is better" or relent and say "do what you like".
Arallios actually ended up with the position spitefully shoved onto him for all of four hours after he fractured the party into some of the members running off. While he was out getting insight after tracking a few of them down, fighter reclaimed the position, after which Arallios came back, took the anger thrown at him, and said that he'd comply with the demand to fuck off if everyone would just hug it out first. Got accused of bailing on problems when he then started going through with the fucking off, for him to point out it's fucking one in the morning and he's not going to argue a bunch of sleep-deprived people.>>48153842

Arallios doesn't really have a nation to speak of unless you count either elves or nature as a whole, he's indifferent to both.

I'm essentially repurposing my character from Star Wars The Old Republic to use in a friends tabletop SW game. I dont know his story specifics, but I do know he doesn't like the canon wipe, and he prefers the Old Republic, so I think I'm solid on the era.

Sigmund doesn't have any strong feelings towards the Kingdom because he's a bumfuck peasant from the middle of Nowhere, Salindor. For the longest time he hasn't given a damn about the matters of kings and dukes, and now that he's a respected monster hunter... He still doesn't give a damn. When we rescued the Prince from a Frost Drake he performed the proper respects towards a man of authority, but after returning the lad to safety he just sort of asked for payment and went back on the path.

Second part of the question is also answered above.
>>
>>48154460

Oh, speaking of, should give an update on Sigmund's most recent session.

We got to Haven, a magical refuge for all manner of creatures hiding from Arasandra and the Arcane Inquisition. We met Aomeda, whose magic has kept Haven safe, and were beckoned into her hut for a big ole plot dump that included such things as the Magus being connected to Arasandra due to a botched sacrifice, and Adelina (Sigmund/Aomeda's daughter) being held captive, along with the princess, in an Inquisition castle. We need to rescue her before Arasandra gets her first, and after that figure out a way to strike at Arasandra and her companion Nagaroth.

We met Tim the Enchanter and his Vishkanya apprentice Alice, who will hopefully give us the enchanted gear we need for the end-game.

Session ended with the Magus and Aomeda having a private conversation that revealed Aomeda is dying, and will probably leave the world after we slay Arasandra and see Adelina returned safe.

Naevarya is a dhampiric psychic, Attendant to the Magister of the Diamond Coast and also, incidentally, her father, Cahrillion uin Duartham, and lorekeeper for the foreign exploratory ship, the Von Braun with her teammates Isaac and Rabbit and Seeker/boyfriend Arkilles. She's soft-spoken, cordial, and delights in aiding and pleasing people.

We recently met her vampiric mother after Naeva accidentally enthralled another Magister after bringing him back from the dead with a breath of life. She's a pretty big deal; the Baroness Ada leader of a clan of vetala, who recalls Cahrillion fondly and all but called Naeva fat lol. In exchange for helping us to un-enthrall the Magister, she's asked that we return to her ancient seat of power, a zigguaraut within the necropolis of the continent, to fetch an artifact that would guarantee her seat as queen of the vetala. The only issue is that her old beau, current motherfucking vampire king is down there with it, so ,y'know, good luck storming the castle guys.

Last session we were still working our way through the zigguraut because the place is massive and filled with traps and curses, which we found out by trial and error.

>Rabbit is used to just meatwalling through all the traps
>you fool
>sets off a trap not even two rooms in, room fills with gas
>whole player party is caught in it, whole player party fails their saves
>it's a goddamn curse, we all tiny now
>roll for initiative

It was fun being in a combat where we're tiny, the beater is doing tiny-level strength damage, and the priest's negative energy damage was useless since the place is filled with undead. After combat Arkilles and the rest of our NPCs nearly crushed Naeva busting in. He immediately found his sole remove curse scroll to use on her--and promptly crit failed. So the magic backfired and amplified the curse, reducing Naeva further the minuscule size. So now she's been riding around on his shoulder lol

Fuckit, here's one i almost got to play three times, but alas flaking.

• Name:
Azury Kaleva
• Role(s):
Rogzard or Wizogue
• Goals:
-originally to find his parents who were lost to a planar portal,
-now that that didn't help and his parents are still alive and lost, just fun and adventure in ruins and fucking about with magic.
• Traits:
-technically pacifist
-either hyper or lost in thought
• Flaws:
-shy. Formerly extremely so, but nowadays has begun to make friends. Will still sit mutely in a corner unless prompted otherwise.
-careless and clumsy when not concentrating - blind and deaf to everything else when concentrating
• Allies:
-some of the colleagues of his parents in the magitech academy, who became his legal guardians
-his parents that were lost to a portal mishap in a storm, but who are proven to be still alive and well via raven feather
• Enemies:
none
• Other Relations:
-some other apprentices from the academy
-an old shopkeeper selling alchemical supplies who got him interested in adventures
• Physical Description:
A 15 year old half elf, average height but childish looking compared to humans his age, with a lithe build thanks to elvish genes. straight middlelength orangebrown hair, blue eyes, slouchy pose, curious facial expression. Mostly wearing rogue attire under his robes.

Korr loves the order and stability the Empire represents but hates the politics and inner squabbles that have dominated it post-Endor. Between coming of age during the Galactic Civil War and good old-fashioned indoctrination, I'd doubt she'd leave it.

The...unfortunate oversights it had towards nonhumans, including Cathar, is where her opinion becomes more nuanced, but rebuilding gives her an opportunity to fix old flaws.

>>48159325
Probably working as a lone field agent or put in charge of a backwater garrison as her superiors try to sort out loyalties. Both would probably lead to adventure eventually because of what's going on, but she'd be participating as an NPC rather than a PC, a terrible fate to have.

Arallios would most likely fade into obscurity at best, never really making any sort of impact in the world, not feeling the need to find companionship except for fleeting moments of curiosity, just another random person that no one knows is in the middle of the forest. Going around hunter-gathering, pop in to some town for half a day every long while to sell some excess, and either get eaten by some superbeast he can't flee from properly or turn into one of those travelling people that have been out and about so long that their regular life XP makes them practically invincible to any nobody that manages to cross them, while simultaneously having no one know who the hell "that elf who kicked that thug's ass like nothing" is.
I feel that any outcome that doesn't involve staying friends with the party in the campaign epilogue counts as a bad/neutral ending no matter how well it goes for him. He doesn't have any ambition past "stay alive as long as possible/become THE oldest person", so moving up in the world isn't an option without outside interference.

Well, Aaron was adventuring before campaign, doing quests to prove his love to a woman. But the campaign is where he started doing things that mattered. His party recently stopped a branch of the cult of tiamat from attempting to burn waterdeep. If he hadn't began adventuring, there would have been far more casualties.

Well, yes, that moreso.

What is [THE BEST] reason for adventure you've seen?

The most valid reason? Self fulfillment that coincides with being a really useful engine nice dude.
The most hilarious? Guy gets swooped up into shit he doesn't know jack shit about and accidentally gits gud.
My personal favorite? Looking for love because you know you're sure as hell not finding a satisfying relationship back home.

What are some ways to play an "edgy" character without it getting annoying for others? Or should I try avoiding "edge" altogether?

I wanted to try making a necromancer vigilante, but I'm afraid I won't be able to make him seem serious.

The way I've always played necromancers is like detectives almost. Someone who speaks with spirits and reads auguries and all that jazz in order to locate clues or people or whatever the plot calls for.

Having an undead servant is just the icing.
>>
>>48168364

He needs a personality outside of the dungeon crawl.

That's really all you need to keep from becoming an edge lord; doing something other than brood in a corner or moodily work on your tinctures in a room.
>>
>>48168364
Don't intentionally try to be edgy, it's annoying when it's forced. You can have them kill people with a blank stare fine, but once you take the step into saying "yes... YEEES!" or licking the weapon after the combat, that's trying too hard. On a related note, have them collect the blood properly with the excuse of using them as spell components, everyone likes some good simple blood magic.
Edge aside, I personally would play a necromancer vigilante like a Pied Piper for dead animals, which then swarm whoever. Then if fatalities are a-ok in the character's morals, take over the guy that got swarmed and move on up until all the dudes are taken care of. Then just drop the zombies back to full dead, bail, and have a bunch of corpses be your calling card.

What's the lowest your OC has been at in play/during the period you've written for them?

>>
>>48172528
I'm still writing her back story, but her Master gets killed, she gets captured, tortured, and has a brief stint as a low-tier Darth's "apprentice". The whole time the Darth manipulates her into believing she's worthless and that she belongs at the feet of her superior Sith Masters, accepting whatever meager scraps of training they'll give to her. This leaves her feeling like her Jedi teachings betrayed her, and when she finally escapes, she doesn't go back to the Jedi.

Still writing, please accept a rain check on the rest.

Physically? The one time Arallios and our two Fighter tanks, but that's less related got grappled by giant ants and fell into unconsciousness, only recovering due to the Wizard buffing his CON. A close second was getting himself stuck in a deathtrap room that arrow'd, gassed, and exploded him. Resident biologist doctor prescribed him a whole lot of "don't do anything strenuous". He ballroom danced with both her and the Bard not an hour later, he's that bad at staying still and following orders.

Emotionally, any of the times he's gotten ornery enough to scare the Bard into temporarily leaving the party. He always manages to man up and track her down like a good ranger husbando. A good farther gap to the next placement would be one time early campaign where he "broke down" into tears over both how shitty of a friend he saw himself as and how garbage he managed to be at the one thing he's supposed to do well. Shot two allies in the butt due to crit fails and godly Vs AC luck. Ended up one of three things in the campaign that ever got past our other Fighter's AC before they had to leave due to schedule shit. He hasn't QUITE been the same character since then, certainly more serious, more likely to strategize with the party taken into account, and definitely more likely to try arguing a case for someone, but overall hasn't changed too much.

My DM friend is secretly a furry (he doesn't know we know, and has led my character to game loss via furshit many times.

Last week, my Knight character (a male) was fucking raped by a werewolf and was deemed "unfit" to carry on due to "mental instability". Apparently my character searched for the werewolf and begged it to continue raping him until my Knight was a feral werewolf. The week before that, my Cleric rolled a 1 and became the slave of a Centaur. I'm not even gonna describe what he made my Cleric do to buy her freedom.
>>

>>
>>48172808
He kinda is "that" DM. We let him DM because he always wants to and he has good snacks and AC , but one of the biggest plusses is that even though he's a chubby guy, he doesn't have BO, unless he gets a boner, because I shit you not, you can smell whatever he's leaking.

As for as DMing, he's really good until he decides to fuck one of us (usually me) over when we get bad rolls. Whenever he starts turning the game into sex, he pops a boner and it smells lewd. I won't lie, one time it smelled really nice, and I hated him for that, but I was pissed that my Rogue had been seduced by a Satyr.

We're all pretty sure he's gay, but he hasn't made a move on any of us, so we're grateful for that.

And wait, how do I have fun with that? Would you have fun with that?

We have, and he just apologized and said "it just helps his immersion as he DM" and that "sometimes that's just how the story goes".

One of the group stayed after our session and said he was going to talk to him about turning the story into ERP, and apparently all he did was suck the DM off. We're guessing this because DM bragged about getting a BJ that night in the group chat, and everyone was awkwardly congratulating him except for the guy that stayed behind, even though he was online at the time.

This sounds similar to a character I ran once. The entire campaign devolved into her force-sensitive self running from bounty hunters and an Inquisitor, using a variety of bluff, tomfoolery, and increasingly insane plans to solve PC problems and stay one step ahead-my favorite session involved marching into Arkania and holding a scientist hostage until he coughed up data related to curing a clone's aging and an offshoot's weak immune system.

But that stunt cost her, she got noticed and caught by the pursuing Inquisitor himself, and when taken to "training" she rolled a critical failure to maintain composure and went full dark side. She's become an npc, but instead of going to Skywalker's Home for Wayward Galaxy Destroying Teens, she's gone full Tarantino's Bride on the Empire, hunting down officers and Inquisitors for making her something she hates.

How open will your character be with her past to the other party members?

• Name:
Sarvus Rook
• Role(s):
Enginseer, armourer, marksman.
• Goals:
Survive, find his misplaced omnissian axe, take revenge on the quartermaster. Hopefully do well enough to get promoted or posted somewhere less maddening.
• Traits:
Compulsive upgrader, tinkerer, and builder of various gizmos, doodads, and 'customizations', all in the name of efficiency. Note: does not actually result in efficiency, but his squad does have the snazziest guns in the theatre.
Slight superiority complex due to being educated and initiated on Mars, and having been to Earth. Honestly, legitimately proud to be an Imperial citizen.
• Flaws:
Overly concerned with self-preservation. Unfamiliar with regimental and local culture, and constantly surprised by the 'low impulses' of humanity. Does not think that those same impulses apply to him, despite heaps of evidence to the contrary.
Hoards equipment of questionable utility and is prone to gambling and smuggling to get more.
• Allies:
141st Centauran Triarii Regiment of the Imperial Guard, technically at least. Technomats and junior adepts strewn across the theatre.
• Enemies:
Heretics, mutants, traitors, and Munitorum logistics personnel. All the same, really, though quartermasters are by far the most vile.
• Other Relations:
A vast extended family in all branches of Imperial service, owing to a tradition of first, second, and third-born children being required to enlist. Sarvus is second-born, and was thus shipped off to the Mechanicus as soon as his primary education was complete. His elder sister is a voidship captain, which is a point of pride for the entire family.

• Physical Description:
Young-ish, pale, clean shaven fellow of unremarkable physique and plain visage. Extensive bionic augments replace or cover the neck, back of the head, ears, and eyes, as well as the spine and ribcage. A robotic arm extends from his lower back, ending in a manipulator claw, and two metallic tentacles coil around his wrists.

>>
>>48176161

>>
>>48176269
I was kind of going for classic look, but I was worried it was "too" classic for a hero.
>>
>>48176369
Nah I feel it's often underappreciated these days, so it's good to see. Tell us about your hero.
>>
>>48176392
I've talking about him on here before, and the general consensus was he was bland, but avoiding all the long winded description, Dorland is basically my take on the Arthurian-esque hero, a legendary knight born from nothing. He starts out as a simple farmer, but through his own efforts and through extensive adventures, he rises up to become a hero throughout the kingdom. In many fictional settings, there are always stories of "this guy did X" or "the first X was done by X" so the idea behind Dorland is, in setting, he has witnessed or performed many deeds that, in the modern times of the setting, would be spoken about in awe and legends (such as being the first mortal to slay a Dragon)

In the setting I have another hero class character, havn't developed him as much as Dorland, but he is basically a take on the Sinbad-style, Arabian legend hero.

>Dorland is basically my take on the Arthurian-esque hero, a legendary knight born from nothing.

Consider the following revisions;

>Make Dorland a noble - he could be a minor noble or a major noble, but if he's an Arthurian knight than he will need to have a bit of the blue blood running through his veins. Simple farmer rising through the ranks is, while common in tabletop fantasy, exceedingly rare in Arthurian legend
>Give him a Lady, preferably someone important or Fae (Ideally a nymph or hamadryad, but a powerful Elf could work.) This gives you a new angle to view his reasons for adventure; perhaps he's seeking the hand of a woman way out of his league?
>He needs a Noble Quest; the Knights of the Round Table were ultimately concerned with seeking the Holy Grail... What is Dorland looking for? A Questing Knight may pick up missions on the road, but in his heart there will always be one penultimate goal he seeks. What is this goal for Dorland?
>Give him a Nemesis, an equal and rival that is not necessarily hostile at all times towards Dorland, but nonetheless poses a threat to Dorland's success or mortal coil
>He needs a Fatal Flaw. There was only *ONE* Arthurian Knight that lacked any fatal flaws, and his name was Sir Galahad. This is Dorland's crux, his Achilles Heel, his Gwynevere to Lancelot. This can't just be a minor, manageable flaw, it must be the type of flaw that, if hammered in just the right way, will *kill* him.
>>
>>48176369
Nothing wrong with too classic. Really like the green knight vibe I'm getting from him.
>>
>>48176138
>a gambling prone, hoarding enginseer in denial about his fleshy urges

Heh. I like it. How much Nextwave are you channeling with him?
>>
>>48176560
I don't really want to make him noble, or special. I understand the important of royalty in Arthurian legend, but I have always enjoyed the concept of someone small and unimportant becoming grand.

As for his noble quest. In setting, Dorland's home was once a massive kingdom long ago, but due to infighting between the heirs, incompetent rulers, and nobles stealing away power, the kingdom was shattered into dozens of splinter kingdoms. When Dorland finally met the true king of the land, he was tasked with traveling across the land and reuniting the kingdom under one banner once again.

As for nemesis, I have a number of enemies that stand up against Dorland, but his equal would be a barbarian knight named Vann Doran, who started out as a brutal warrior who met Dorland on numerous occasions, and each time was able to match, if not surpass Dorland, despite the knight's growth. At some point Vann Doran attains immortality, and becomes an undying, battle seeking beast that only Dorland can stand against 1v1

As for a flaw, that is certainly an issue, since Dorland's character is a bit flat. He's heroic, brave, hot headed and determined, but has no formal learning and is self taught in terms of battle. So I do think I need to work more on his personal traits.
>>
>>48176690
Hmm...

Who's the heir he's helping? And what are his relations? Would Vann Doran go so far/plan enough to actually go after Dorland's loved ones or family if he has any?
>>
>>48176626
Remains to be seen, since he hasn't hit the table yet. This being 40k, however, both nonsensical comedy and ultraviolence are something of a safe bet.
>>
>>48176759
Daluris VI. By the time Dorland meets him, Daluris is still a young ruler, and there are few others related to him still in power, ,most of the splinter kingdoms having swapped out their bloodline for new rulers.

Vann Doran would go after Dorland's loved ones if they were on the way, he wouldn't go out of his way to set that situation up, since he could easily just spend the time rushing headfirst at Dorland. Vann Doran is not an idiot, despite once being a barbarian, but he much prefers a straightforward clash, but isn't against using tricks, ambushes, or setting up the situation to ensure a nice, bloody fight.

>If your character could be "unlocked" to be added into another player's party, what would the required sidequest be like?
Arallios' requirements would involve solving problems without murderhoboing. Top placements would either be "head into spooky forest and help/heal X normally tpk-ing enemy" the duality being that the party could easily kill it for some neat loot while it's weakened or "visit X top-dog royal/very respected figure, show them a great yet basic kindness, and provide a reason for it that won't make them want to smack you" because you gotta have the balls to look at The Man-Emperor of Mankind himself, say something like "Hey you, I'm gonna snuggle you and give you a lollipop, because while you can just ask for that and get it yesterday, I'm doing this of my own free will. Because I appreciate you." and then go through with it for the sake of friendliness.

For Cata:
•Quest: Help Cata prove that the local magistrate is abusing the law for his own gain, and replace him with a decent man. If you don't replace the magistrate or take down the government, Cata will not join you.
•Payment: Cata needs 100 gold as bail for a wrongfully convicted man. If you pass a Diplomacy check, you can flatter her into paying 50 of that gold out of her own pocket.
•Renown: Cata will come to try and join the party if the party proves themselves particularly Lawful or Good, upholds the status quo while removing corruption, or has traveled to a certain number of towns (she would rather travel than stick in one place.) She will leave the party if they tease her about her arm, become particularly Chaotic or Evil, or try to take down governments and spread disorder.
• If Cata becomes a companion, she can use her legal skills to help avoid steep fines or unfair laws.

For Llyena:
•Quest: Llyena needs a book from a local wizarding school. Obtain it for her without attracting attention. If you kill too many wizards or get caught, Llyena will not join you.
•Payment: Llyena needs 200 gold for magical supplies. If you give her a magical artifact of at least that worth, she will join you.
•Renown: Llyena will try to join the party if they are famed for hunting artifacts and magical learning, are particularly Neutral despite Good or Evil leanings, or have defeated any servants of demons. She will leave the party if they try to pick her up and carry her around/carry her on their shoulders for laughs, if the party becomes too Good or too Evil, or if the party actively tries to take away her magical artifacts or avoid sources of new ones or ancient spells.

Sorry, weird wording clarification: in Cata's quest, if you take down the government, she will not join you. She's not asking you to take down the government. That's not cool.

Irya is pretty simple.

• Buy one (0/1) magic item from her shop.
• Bring three (0/3) ancient books from a nearby library (Might instead be an easy escort quest)
• Slay three (0/3) outsiders and bring her alchemical components from them.
• Sit down for one (0/1) coffee and conversation at her shop.

The big thing would be the party convincing her it'd be worthwhile intellectually to join (she won't get bored) and that they'll go a good route so she can sell shit.

Zaniel cares to much for the common people to endanger the world. He even helped Albion rebuild after moon incident.

His obsession with law had him almost kill two cooks for feeding an opposing army.

They were on a living fortress that they stole. They could have gone back to banditry for all we know they were gnolls.

This is a good format. Me steal.

For Sarvus >>48176138
>Quest
Sarvus has 'discovered' a valuable piece of archeotech behind enemy lines. Your task is to accompany him and his squad on a Kelly's Heroes sort of stint to 'liberate' it, and then smuggle it back without the quartermaster and the commissar noticing anything is awry. You may or may not be blamed for the 'tragic navigational auspex malfunction' that led to the unsanctioned excursion, or be required to join in mourning its machine spirit for added obfuscation.

>Payment
Sarvus needs a crate of Mars-pattern frag grenades to pay for two containers of lho sticks which he can bet in a card game to hopefully win a barrel of brandy which he can then trade for a lens he needs to finish a preysense scope for his gun.

>Renown
Sarvus will get himself transferred to the party if they publically humiliate a certain quartermaster, or are known for bureaucratic prowess. Ideally both.

>Companion
Sarvus will use his knowledge and skills to upgrade all the party's weapons and armour, construct new pieces over time, and resurrect any fallen as horrific barely-alive fusions of corpse and mechanism. He's also not bad in a fight, gunning enemies down with robotic precision, though at a measured pace.
