O-Oh.

All ideas sound stupid and pathetic at the start.

That's why you write them down, so you can work on them.
>>
If Gygax and Arneson hadn't thought "let's upend established war games and make them more complicated and granular at a smaller scale for fewer players with more necessity for an impartial third party referee and (eventually) uncommon dice not sold in stores and also let's play make believe and act like elves and fairies (in front of an audience of adults) as we do it by combining sixty influences in a haphazard way" we wouldn't have D&D and arguably wouldn't have RPGs as we know them. Certainly they would have taken longer to evolve and who knows where we'd be on that track by now.

Things that seem like nonsense the first time you see them written down on paper aren't necessarily without merit. Hell, some things never really look any better when they're reductively described in note form no matter how many times you see them.

Work on your idea. Add, tweak, and don't be afraid to take away. Maybe it won't work out. But then again, maybe it will.

>Have idea for game
>It's based off a debatably /d/ game
>Still a pretty good idea minus the (not my) magical realm
>Sounds alright! Let's note it all down!
>End up writing two pages of extra rules on top
>Sounds better on paper, run it by a few players, get positive reviews
>Group of 7 with 5 potential DMs suddenly craps out
>Spotlight on you
O-oh.

Well you know what they say about writing what you're into.

Welcome to reality every author faces at start. Ideas sound a lot better then they are in your head, a a lot worse than they are once you write them down. Get used to it.

Viscerally true.

OP, try keeping it simple. Like. Super simple. Write down absolutely everything you can think of but keep it so dumb that there's no room for convolution or confusion.

Then, expand on these newfound subjects in the same flowery faggot prose you use in your tiny fragmented skull.
>>
Every idea, no matter how good it seems, is always half baked at the beginning. The part where it actually becomes interesting is after it's worked on.

Sounds like my homebrew system. Just gotta keep poking at it. Is your idea for a game a system, or a campaign? Simple systems aren't necessarily bad, but you do want to develop the campaign world enough to be interesting.
>>
The main problem most people face is that idea consist of a large number of concepts ranging from visual to kinetic to soundbased existing at the same time forming a network of associations.
When you start writing them down, you are trying to force all of those synchronically existing ideas of various natures into one linear chain of words. That is why ideas translated into notes start to look so drastically different from how they "sounded" in your head. It's something that cannot be helped, but can be mitigated with patience and training, as well as learning basics of other means of expression than writing (such as drawing).

OP, every media product that has ever existed, even the greatest ones you love the most, can be summed up as a stupid idea if you're abstract and reductionist about it. The idea itself is not what makes a work good, it's the execution. And you know how you git gud at the execution?

Yes OP, you practice. You DO IT, FAGGOT, until you're not making shit.
