Is soccer already more popular than baseball in the USA?
(just cheking)
>>
No.

Soccer's been the sport of the future for two generations. There it will stay forever.
>>
>>66481140
No
>>
Yeah, in most places.
>>
>>66481140
LOL not even close Austria

baseball is more relevant even in the offseason for us
>>
Lemme break it down for you paco.

America is such a huge country that we have things called regions. Soccer is big in a few regions such as Washington and Oregon. Baseball is big in more of these regions.

Furthermore, many of the places that have soccer followings are still out viewed and out funded by baseball.

I'm here to help :^)

Soccer is a nice sport in America, with an obscure following, just like Tennis or Skiing.

Sure, people get excited for big soccer tournaments like the World Cup, just like tennis tournaments like the US Open, but once that's over, everyone goes back to watching major sports like baseball or football.
>>
>>66481140
that's for sure, and it will become even more popular
it's already the #1 practiced between boys in schools
>>
Maybe in places like Portland and Seattle, but that's it.
>>
>Soccer
>more popular than any of the Big 4

It's even behind hockey and a good part of the country couldn't care less about that
>>
It's getting there. My wife's son recently said he and his friends were more excited about watching the Euro this summer than the World Series in fall.
>>
>>66481337
Do you have the wife's son version?
>>
>>66481284
That would be Peru

My wife's son (who is voting for Bernie) is a big fan of football (not American "football", mind you).
>>
>>66481140

>>
>>66481140
In some area's maybe.
Here in Texas its pretty much in the same spot where people expected it to be.
Not part of the big four, but its getting there.

spics seem to like boreball tho
>>
>average age of World Series viewership: 54
>little league membership is in full collapse

yup
>>
Isn't the average age of MLB viewers at like 60 now? I think they will have to change pretty drastically in the next 30 years once all the baby boomers are dead. Saying that I think hockey is more in danger of being overtaken by 'soccer', the average viewing figures of the Stanley Cup finals don't even break 4 million and the MLS cup final brings in about 1 million.
>>
>>66483471
>>66483526
Up here in Dallas Ranger crowds are like 40 percent hispanic. FC Dallas games are white hipsters and suburban families

No. I think it will overtake baseball and cuckhoop in 30 years though

It's a child's game here. People let kids play it because it is safe and requires relatively little strength. No high schoolers or even middle schoolers play it. Only small children

>ESPN drew 668,000 viewers for Portland's 2-1 win over Columbus. That was down 31 percent from last year's audience for Los Angeles vs. New England, which was Landon Donovan's final game of his career. UniMás drew 300,000, down 51 percent from last year. Univision Deportes' simulcast drew 206,000, down 16 percent from last year.

Nobody. Gives. A. Shit. About. MLS.

It gets 0 coverage on ESPN. FS1 forces an agenda since it covers a lot of soccer. Your local news only shows MLS when MLB and NBA is out of action, and it usually goes "Giants have an off day they play tomorrow in Atlanta the 49ers are in talks of a new quarterback, and Galaxy won 1-0 moving on!" You have a better chance of seeing 100 barcelona jerseys walking down a busy street before you see a single MLS shirt. Nobody ever talks about it in your typical workplace watercooler talks. You have bigger Man United and Bayern fans in the states then MLS, and thats because its hipsters that love playing FIFA, but these douchebags usually use terms like pitch and kits like the pretentious assholes they are. European soccer in embedded deep in its roots, just as college football is in ours, with the first game played in 1766 and every year since. Yuro's always argue about how our meme teams just relocate, and how they always cheer on their Ligue 3 Yankmydickshire City squad. Just as there are Alabama and USC fans, there are North Dakota State and Akron Zips fans. But MLS is what, 20 years old? It will takes probably take 30 years before it can be considered in the BIG 5 US sports.
>>
>>66483690
FC Dallas play in Frisco
Thats the problem
>>
Heres how it is:
1 Tons of people play soccer (not only girls).
2 Literally no one cares about the MLS, people kinda think you're weird if you do
3 People only watch soccer here if they follow the European leagues (which is a lot) or if the world cup is on.
It's more popular than baseball in the sense that more people will watch the world cup than the world series, but I doubt more people play soccer than baseball
>>
>>66483888

It's only 3 million behind the Stanley Cup final is all I'm saying, The World Series got 14 million per game last year, my point was that Hockey is more in danger of being overtaken by soccer rather than Baseball.

Hockey is only in danger because all these literally who meme teams like the lighting keep going deep in the playoffs. We need to see the ratings with northern and Canadian teams

I've always wondered why basketball is ahead of hockey.

Hockey always outsells basketball tickets even when hockey tickets are like 4 times as much. The hockey general and hockey subreddit is more popular than the basketball ones.
Everyday I'll see meme shit like Florida Panthers vs New York Islanders gamethreads for hockey but you will never see a Utah Jazz vs Minnesota Timberwolves gamethread. And it seems like the only basketball game threads that exceed 100 posts are ones involving either Golden State or Cleveland.

Is it all because of basketball being aired on basic cable?

I mean they're both going to be replaced by soccer in 30 years but still
>>
>>66483888
>MLS
no one watches that shit even here. The champions league probably gets 3x the viewers

Baseball is the 2nd most popular sport in the country, headed for #1 after concussions and pussification kill off the NFL. Soccer is like top 15 in popularity
>>
>>66484513
pretty sure local ratings are similar for both sports. but nba is far more popular for national broadcasts. People just love the star power I guess, it's something they can easily talk about around the water cooler

and on the topic of local ratings, that is where baseball is strongest and the reason it's not being passed by any sport any time soon

Soccer will never surpass these sports in popularity until it gains a much larger following at the college and HS levels. If the popularity at these levels grows, then the money and the world class coaching will follow.

Also, shit youth academies but things have improved over time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_in_the_United_States#Popular_team_sports

If you look at the average salaries of American football's college coaches, it's $1,904,000 a year with the top coach making $$7,087,481 a year as of 2015.

Compare that to the average salary of NCAA Division 1 men's soccer coaches, it's $157,000 a year with George Gelnovatch making a little more than the average.

http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/

http://www.cheatsheet.com/sports/the-10-highest-paid-coaching-positions-in-college-sports.html/?a=viewall

NCAA Division 1 Men's American Football/Basketball teams are pretty much the equivalent of soccer's U-21s and are the feeder leagues to our professional teams. Our high school teams are like our U-18s and they feed our college teams. They are the equivalent (quality-wise) of Europe's/Argentina's/Brazil's top youth academies in soccer.

Another statistic is attendance.

The average attendance for home games in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) was 46,000 fans per game.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/25418087/college-football-attendance-drops-for-fifth-straight-year-but-at-slower-rate

Compared to men's college soccer attendance of around 2,000.

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_soccer_RB/2015/2014attend.pdf

tl;dr, U.S. soccer needs to improve at the youth level both in quality and quantity. I think the increasing popularity/accessibility of the BPL/Champion's League here in the states has helped - along with the growth of MLS.
>>
>>66484738
Yeah, I do, and literally nobody watches soccer. It's in the same boat as swimming. Once every couple years all the casuals and hipster trash suck off Michael Phelps for a few weeks, and then everybody goes back to not caring in the slightest

Why do people always say this without actually looking at the numbers? Baseball's TV ratings and attendances are growing, and continue to grow. The difference between Baseball and Football is that people only watch "their" team for Baseball. That's why ratings go down during the World Series; people don't watch it if their team isn't in it.

Soccer isn't even top 5. For the last few years it's been:

1. NFL
2/3. MLB or college football
4. NASCAR
5. NBA

After that is hockey, soccer, golf, etc. anything other than this is just opinion.
